I would not lengthen it at all. They were designed from the very beginning to be very small, short wheelbase, lightweight and cramped. They were designed by adults for adults and there's numerous photos of people like Steve McQueen, James Garner (both racers in real life) and Roy Orbison looking very uncomfortable on early karts with their knees in their chests. The karts that followed later that were marketed to teens and pre-teens (sold in the Sears Wishbook) followed the same pattern as people thought they were naturally perfect for smaller people.
@@Hjerte_Verke I didn't lengthen it. I Just stayed with the original frame but pushed the frame holding steering wheel forward a few inches. That was enough space. Extending the frame was toooo much. Esp since I have 2 other bigger karts
Great idea lengthining the frame. I might copy that , the exact way you did it, unless I can figure a way to make it adjustable. I found a manco 2 people kart, at a scrap yard about 5 years ago. It was in the big pile, they were nice enough to unbury it and let me have it for about 20 to 25 dollars . And a different scrap yard about 45 minutes away. I was getting car parts , and they had pulled a 1977 single manco or sears orange crate out this time ,35 dollars. Of coarse both needed wire brushed some straightining and welding and painting and there missing parts, but saves me from building a frame. I see a lot of people use the preditor 212 at 6 &1/2 H.P. I never considerd that , Because I had a 1969 5 hp briggs on my homemade one . My brother sold it on me when I was in the service, I guess because He did the welding , and turned the 1 inch axle in shop class and milled the key way all the way across in shop class. I did build it kind of heavy out of water pipe 3/4 inch . I think we ran 2 pipes on each side one above the other with spacers . I'm retired now and finally close to catching up on other projects to get to the rupp scrambler mini bike paid $250. missing stuff about 10 yrs ago and now the two karts.
@@LincolnMaxnCo Nice job on extending the frame. I am thinking of doing the same thing to mine. I am restoring an old school Manco American Express Kart. I need to extend the frame really to fit into it properly at being 6' over 200 pounds. Does it destroy the value of the Kart extending the frame like this?
Thanks 🙂 I am really not sure how much it would afffect the value When I did mine, that was the least of my concerns. To me it was a fulfillment of a childhood dream 😃
Can I ask where you bought those 5 inch solid metal pipe with the tapered ends to fit the existing frame? I’d like to extend my go kart project as well. I guess I could go to a machine shop.... but I would prefer a ready made stock. Thx!
Hey, I got the metal at a local metal supply place. I cut them to length and tapered the pipe, The solid metal rod is a separate piece, that is the exact size of the inner diameter of the pipe. If you are going to extend the frame be careful or you could ruin it.
I would try penetrating oil first, If that does not work then heat and might need a little persuasion from a hammer BUT be careful not to damage the wheel
he does not like to get wet in the rain, when is pretty bad or it rains for too long, I take him out w/ an umbrella covering him :) while I get wet, so that he can take care of his business
I had one just like that when I was like 7 yrs old. I miss those old karts.
I like how U extended it...I have a go kart i was thinking about doing that, but was afraid I'd weaken the frame.
But yours looks strong...
Thanks 👍🙂
I am very happy with the way mine came out.
Good luck in your project

Where do you find go karts like this
Hi,
I search all over, craighlist and facebook marketplace
I hope you find one 👍🙂
my freind finds tons at his local junk yard for like $10 and it includes everything
I'm having trouble getting my drive wheel off to get to the brake band so I can replace it

Yikes, por favor use un casco más rápido de lo que pensaba amigo!
