      That's not so unusual, actually! F-14 crews very often carried screwdrivers and things up with them to deal with in-flight anomalies. Or, perhaps more importantly, to pull the G gauge and reset the max-G telltale after some BFM training so that the crew chief wouldn't know that they'd exceeded 6.5 that day. Naughty boys.

    Best use case for these is for DEAD, to saturate and fly a similar pattern to previous flights, creating a confusion, where the incoming formation looks like the TALDs. It should be impossible for a human enemy to distinguish between the behaviors of the decoys and a human.
    The usefulness increases as the number of targets in an area increases. It also increases by launching TALDs and then not attacking, to get an enemy to reveal their position for DEAD or get them fatigued so they think they are only facing a decoy. A high angle of dispersion also helps to degrade their certainty.
    Getting an enemy to look high while you’re down low is also a useful tactic. Unfortunately, DCS AI is so poor that many tactics are simply wasted on them. If we see MP with Combined Arms, these could be viable.

    For a crosswind landing, Navy teaches you not to crab, but wing down into the wind. Touchdown with one wheel and then settle onto the others.

    Ever since I learned about the F-14's TALDs, I wondered how effective they could be at confusing players in a SATAL-style PVP event. Two wingmen in your squad have a full TALD loadout and everyone else hides behind them. TALDs deploy, and the other wingmen split off wide then come back in with a pincer maneuver, launching fox-3s at a distance, then cleaning up with fox-2s.

    I've been playing about with TALDs for a long time, but twelve on an airframe gets the kind of saturation you need to be useful in DCS. Four on an F-14 just doesn't cut it unless you have a solitary launcher.

  • @terranhightower341

    To "fix" the HUD on landing is cage/uncage. It will center your pitch ladder and E bracket and give you an indicator off to one side or the other for wind

    As a Falcon 4 and Gunship 2000 player, it always excites me to see brand new hardware. Totally fresh ideas.
    I know the Tomcat has had these, bit I'd never heard of them, and they bring a whole new job to SEAD and DEAD flights.
    Also...what's the functional difference between SEAD and DEAD?
    ALSO, can't wait for F-35 like Helmut displays that let us see all those visualizations in real time.

    • @kataklasm5621
      @kataklasm5621 2 роки тому +2

      SEAD is suppression of enemy air defenses which is mostly interpreted as killing the search/track radars of SAM installations. DEAD is destruction of enemy air defenses and is the killing of the actual SAM launchers. At least that's how I always heard it.

      I used to have a TM hotas warthog. Worst investment ever. Everything that is non functional is made of metal and all of the important bits like the mechanisms are made of cheap plastic. The joystick base sucks and the throttles have the worst cursor axis input I've ever seen. It's like the little nipple thing on old IBM thinkpads except it's cheap and it sucks.
