This is brilliant. I’m over here attempting division of fractions and you have a hands on method. Thank you for a simple clear method. My wife can stop complaining about uneven handles niw
WOOOOWHOOOO!!!… Finally, a clear, cut and dry method that not only works like a charm. But works with drawers of different sizes!!!! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been putting this off; as I’ve not been able to find a single video on this…that I could understand anyway. Thank you from the depths of my soul!!… As you’ve given me the knowledge to FINALLY see my project through, after being at a complete standstill for MONTHS!!! This is going to be a total game changer for future pieces too! Thanks again…I’m 100% subscribing to this channel. Edit: It didn’t work. 😭 I’m off by about a 1/4 of an inch every time. The drawer faces are both concave and convex…I’m wondering if that’s why I’m having such a tough time?
I'm sorry to hear that...😔 Being concave/convex could definitely tweak it just enough to be off by a little bit but honestly without trying it myself I'm not quite sure.. are the holes in the drawer pulls centered in the pulls? and do the pulls seem symmetrical?
In less than 5 minutes you explained to this idiot (me) exactly how to accomplish a task I've been aching over for a few weeks. Thank you so much for your help.
@@DoingWhatever I'm making a video of a build and wanted to give you a shoutout. If you're okay with that, would you like your real name (which happens to be what?) or just the channel name mentioned?
@@RomGecko yea for sure man, my name is Ryan. I appreciate the shoutout! I do have to say I didn’t come up with this method, but I don’t remember where I saw it first…
Wow what a clever idea💡thanks for sharing. It is all about geometric, that's why I love carpentry. I love your videos, straight to the point and very clear -- such a gem!
Wish I could say I came up with this solution but I can't lol still a method I use every time I install handles! I really appreciate the complement - thanks!
@Aileen Hurley For two handles just mark a line in the middle of the width of the drawer and treat them as two separate drawers with the middle line being the left edge of one and the right edge of the other.
wow - i know i should probably have known this (school days geometry) BUT this was really well described and can see it works for any size (symmetrical) handles and any size drawer fronts. Brilliant just saved me some hassle with some IKEA drawers (they dont pre-drill holes)
AMAZING Goodness I divorced my template once I SAW THIS VIDEO !!!!! I installed new cabinets in my salon and I wanted to install handles since they didn't come with any. Needless to say that didn't go as planned using the template they where so uncen😢tered but after watching your video they look awesome . Thank you so much for the simplicity of what some made look hard and that a template😒was needed. You made it easier and you explained it all so well and I really appreciated the bottom drawer tip. Thanks a bunch 😍😎
Extremely solid and beneficial method. I was able to utilize this method to finish the hardware installation in our home kitchen remodel. No jig required. Thank you.
I'm glad it was helpful! 😃 For the knobs - if you just want them centered on the drawer face, connect the opposite corners to find the center and install them. Is that what you're asking?
Omg thank you so much for this!!! I've been struggling with this for so long....no matter what I did the handles never looked straight. Tried your tip and it worked.....my handles are straight 🥳🥳
Like in the top of bottom corners? Honestly I usually just measure those out and they end up working well. Not really a trick to those that I’m aware of unfortunately lol. Or there are some jigs out there that you could buy to help align things. Thanks for watching!
This is great! I don't know what I'm doing wrong but for four straight drawers my holes need to go just to the outside of the center of the x to line up with the pull. But it's still working. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
hmmm... my only thought is that maybe the holes in the handle aren't quite centered on the stems on the handle (if that makes sense). If the holes are centered on the stems of the handle, it should work out pretty well. Let me know if you figure out what's causing this, I'd be interested to know!
So logically simple. No ruler required, no counting and dividing - just draw with a straight edge and mark. Great! Thank You!!! Unfortunately for the handles I'm now installing this technique doesn't entirely work.
I wish I could say I came up with this method but I can't lol. Im glad you enjoyed it - too bad it doesn't work for your handles but maybe it will for different handles in the future!
Yes, it will. I had to draw it out to make sure but I don't see why it wouldn't work lol. Check out the diagram I have on my website for this project (link in description) and make sure to connect the lines like I have shown. Let me know how it turns out!
Shouldn't need to change anything. Go by the hole spacing just like I showed in the video and you should get the same results. The "handle" part of the handle extending past the studs where the screws screw into doesn't change this method. Does that make sense?
Would this same method work on drawers that don’t have sharp corners/edges, but a slight rounded edge to it? Like, could I still get those marks using my drawer pulls like you did in the beginning of the video?
I would measure in from all 4 edges like an inch and then basically draw a new box on the face of the drawer. then use that as your “drawer face”. know what I mean?
Tried adding 1 handle on on a slim spoon drawer like the last one you showed at the end, but the cross lines come out exactly the size of the handle 6 3/4 . Trying to figure where I went wrong? Maybe when I decided to put 1 handle on a 34in wide drawer
This is SO helpful. Thank you! I have one question: Is it easier to drill the pilot holes with the drawer face on the dresser or detached from the dresser?
Awesome, glad to hear that! Well in my case, I have the drawer face and the second drawer face (the front of the drawer) to drill through so it’s probably easiest to drill the holes with the drawer face attached. Does that make sense?
Jeez! I wish my custom cab guy was as good as you! I have frameless slab drawers and doors. Unfortunately he couldn’t get the fronts to fully cover the boxes!😬
@@DoingWhatever we’re installing tomorrow. Question: our screws are too short to go through front of drawer box and facing. Do you recommend buying longer screws, countersinking, or removing face and attaching the pull then screwing all that back onto the drawer box?
@@barbwagner967 I would try buying longer screws first, that would be the easiest fix. Countersinking second, and removing the drawer face third. When you take off the drawer face, you run the risk that they may not go back on perfectly aligned like they were. Odds are they will, but just in case I try to leave them on once they are installed. If you do have to remove the faces to install the screws, you’ll probably have to countersink the heads since they’ll be sitting between the face and the box now. Also, if you ever swap out the hardware for a different style, you’ll have to go through removing the faces all over again lol. Good luck with the install!

Hello, any tips for me to install handle pulls to a wooden serving tray? Don't want to drill thru the edge where pull will be.
I’m not sure I understand your question…
Wouldn’t you drill through the tray and countersink the screw head on the bottom of the tray?
