Clamp your wooden jig to the door/drawer and drill through it. No marking with a pencil, no starting with an awl, no masking tape behind. Put a 3/16" tapered bit in your drill and go. The tapered bit doesn't blow out the back side. I'm a journeyman cabinetmaker, finish carpenter, and cabinet installer.
My issue with using wood jigs to drill many doors/drawers us the holes tend to wear and may cause issues with alignment. I prefer to use metal jigs like the King & Charles.
Thank you! Just got a full set of hardware for my kitchen and have never done it. Loved learning from you - very clear, got everything I needed to know. Subscribed!
I appreciate you so much. Figured I'd let you know! I'm doing all my home renovation projects by myself and your videos have definitely been a necessity to my success!
19:42 If you don't have bolts with a gap in the thread for cutting (or even if you do), a precaution would be to wind a nut on before cutting. Maybe the thread will be fine. But if not, maybe forcefully unwinding the nut will mash the ragged end back into usable shape. Nicer to have two maybes on your side than one.
Hello. I think for the small drawers the square knob will work well and still fit in with the design. Thank you for taking us along with you on the whole reno of your kitchen. I feel the kitchen is a job well done. Take care and enjoy the new kitchen or should I say the whole new home. Wonder what you will reno now?
love the video. Do you have advice for where to place handles on shaker cabinets and drawers? I see online so many options. My gut says straight in the middle of all the drawers in the panel but so many other options please advise sir thank you
I was afraid to do these myself, so I hired someone to do mine. I had all handles as well and wanted them lined up exactly like the ones you did here. Worst mistake I ever made. He did a terrible job, and they were all crooked. Now I have to get up the nerve to fix it myself. This video really helped. Thank you.
i like the knob on the smaller drawers, in the center of the panel. but i would want a square or rectangular knob, since the handles are so rectangular.
I'm team handle all the way, but I'd have gone with something wider than used here, and do them all horizontally like on the drawers with the handles being along the lower rail of the cabinet doors for the uppers (and by extension, similar for the lower cabinet doors up top when not a drawer. That said, uppers will either be open shelving for basic frameless cabinet boxes sans doors and call it a day. 😊
Instead of ripping my entire kitchern a part we had New Cabinets And draw fronts made from scratch and added a basic island no water no gas just a place to sit eat amd watch games Do you have have videos that show how to install soft close cab hinges amd ball bearing hinges . I know if enough if I could see.a demo . I've ready cut out a.load bearing wall with no issues. This I just can't get my head around it. 10:1010:1 I have pictures trying to figure out on how to post them.
If that was my kitchen I would have you change the direction of the opening of the cookie sheet cabinet next to the oven. And no to the knob since the rest are handles.
The jig I made was a scrap piece of cardboard I cut to size, with a hole in it where I made an X going from corner to corner. Worked great. What got me was when my wife and I were choosing options for the house we were told it was going to be around $1000 to install knobs/handles. I just laughed at them - hell, the ones they were offering were cheap AND ugly, so I wasn't see any upside to grossly overpaying for something anyone could do with a drill and a beer. Took two years, but Costco of all places was selling brushed nickle on brass knobs for about $1.25 a pop, so I grabbed all I needed and installed them the next day after work.
If you're making a jig, make sure you drill the holes dead straight otherwise any angles will throw off your measurements. That's what happened in this case but by creating a larger hole in the cabinet, you will give yourself some wiggle room! P.S. I know this by doing three doors and then wondering why they weren't straight........ and I had 35 doors to go.
I think knobs look better for small cabinets, not drawers, like small cabinets, if you have double stacked cabinets. I also think for the long drawers, i like long handles. just opinion, if you guys want handles for your kitchen.
Thank you for not putting knobs. They always catch my earphones and yank it out and hurt me or catch on my side pant pockets and tear my pants. You also can't use knobs if you only have one finger clean and want to open drawers. Knobs for drawers and doors are the worst things you can pick for your house.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Maybe they should include a set of airpods when you buy a pack of knobs... 😂 but really, thanks for watching and for the comment!
This is a fake account!!!! Not the REAL FIXER!!!!! This guy didn't say AND WE'RE GONNA DO IT RIGHT NOW and POINT AT ME!!!! Whoever you are, I'm not fooled!!!!
I've been using wire strippers for 30 years and never knew the bolt cutting function. Thank you!
lol the same here
I think the knob looks better for the smaller drawer. Its good you’re keeping busy with projects and taking us along the ride. Thanks for sharing .

I was impressed how you got a 'handle' on the job!!! 😉 Sorry, had to say it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
HEYOOOO. Haha I like it. Thanks for stopping by!

How’d it go!
I appreciate you so much. Figured I'd let you know! I'm doing all my home renovation projects by myself and your videos have definitely been a necessity to my success!
I vote knob for the little drawer 👌🏼
I've been nervous about doing this on my new bathroom vanity but thanks to you---- I'm "on it"!
Awesome to hear! I really hope the video helps!
@The Fixer thank you! I did it. Not perfect but completed. I have been afraid to do the job but you were super helpful

Knobs for the small drawers.
Thank you for voting! 😁😁
Knobs.. ty for an awesome video. Tomorrow I'll be working on my cabinets. 🙏
Good luck!
I vote for the knob. Thanks for the instructions- I’m going to tackle drawer pulls soon.
This was helpful. I just made a template real quick with a random scrap of cardboard. Thanks for the idea!
I just want to say THANK YOU!!!!!!!
🤣thanks for the outtake! I needed that giggle
I like knobs for all upper cabinets and handles for all lower ones. Nice video, greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you. I'm replacing knobs for pulls. Will check out Jig.
Great, I can use that. Thanks Matt. 😊
No problem! Hope it helps!!
Good stuff like always.
Square knobs would probably look good
Your layout makes the draw handles uniform
love the video. Do you have advice for where to place handles on shaker cabinets and drawers? I see online so many options. My gut says straight in the middle of all the drawers in the panel but so many other options please advise sir thank you
Isn’t there a smaller version of that bar pull? I used three different sizes of the exact same pull on a wall of built-ins in a bedroom.
I was afraid to do these myself, so I hired someone to do mine. I had all handles as well and wanted them lined up exactly like the ones you did here. Worst mistake I ever made. Sorry to hear that. 😞 but happy to hear the video helped.
Huge help on the 36” base drawers. Used a jig for all the doors but drawers were concerning
Awesome video very thorough. I would use a knob on the 2 very small drawers.
Thanks. I only have 4 handles to install and 1st way did the trick. 👍👍👍👍
Good to hear!
Definitely a knob for the little drawers.
A square knob centered. Great job.
Plywood doors were splintering when drilled. I was told to use a piece of scrap soft wood on the inside held on by spring clamps to stop splintering.
😆helpful video, for handle installation, how to measure the size and drilling hole is difficult, your bring an effective way👍
I was screaming make a jig while you were jabbering on about measuring…
🤣
I personally would want a knob for those little drawers.
A square or bar knob for the small drawers. Thank you for the video.
I'm with team square knob.
Knob on small drawers
Thanks for voting! 😁
i like the knob on the smaller drawers, in the center of the panel. but i would want a square or rectangular knob, since the handles are so rectangular.
Do I need a nail set or can I just a drill bit?
Great video… very informative 👍
You're great, thank you so much!
Great video, thanks
And thank YOU, Michael, for watching!
It's easier for me to use an acrylic ruler rather than the measuring tape for this particular task. Easier on the hands~
I'm team handle all the way, but I'd have gone with something wider than used here, and do them all horizontally like on the drawers with the handles being along the lower rail of the cabinet doors for the uppers (and by extension, similar for the lower cabinet doors up top when not a drawer.

Go with the knob on the small drawer. With 1.5” countertop overhang a high mounted handle will be partially hidden and look bad imho
Square knobs for the small drawers!
Thank you for the suggestion. I think that is what we are going with! Thanks for watching!

Question. Are you available for hire? I live in CT.
I vote for the handle
It will things uniformed
I would prefer the small knob for the smaller drawers
Thanks, Raymond. Pretty sure that is what we are going with! Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video!
Thanks
No problem! Hope it helps!
Buy a real $200 jig from Lee Valley It will do every handle for every job opened over and over for years
Knobs!
You are good!Looking forward to work together🥰
A small knob would look better on those small drawers. Something square or rectangular in shape.
A jig isn’t cheating, it’s smart

me enjoying these vids as always, but constantly interpreting "jig" as "a little dance" for fun, can't help it my brain just works like that
🤣

Square knobs for the small drawers
I need to get me some of those screws
I have never cut a screw that threads back without a problem
Thank you for not putting knobs. They always catch my earphones and yank it out and hurt me or catch on my side pant pockets and tear my pants.

Hello
The small square Knob will work
Stay with the handle and use a file to shave it down to fit correctly, and center it on the drawer.
The home depot have a tool that is already made the holes
Square knobs for small drawers 😁
Thanks, Lynsey!
a square knob like the other pulls in the center of that small drawer would look nice. I think the round is too different.
Do the knob bro😄
22:00: Now I don't know whether the perfectionist in me wants to center each handle within its own half of the drawer or go the equidistant route :\
Yeah thats a tough one.
♥️
🌞
Knob
Handles are the devil 😈
Knobs
I vote on “that” instead of “that”
Wish I showed you “this” as well
👍👍👍👏👏👏💯
Do the knob
I did! 😀👍
They are called " short & long SCREW'S " !
Why the apostrophe?
This is a fake account!!!! Not the REAL FIXER!!!!!

Did you watch the first 7 seconds of the video?? 🤔🤣
@@TheFixerHomeRepair welp, i didn't catch that...my bad!
@@gregmize01 haha it’s all good. Thanks for stopping by!
Have you lost some weight?
🤕
Why is using a jig cheating?
Knob
Thanks, Cate!
