According to the Home Video Guide on Kanzenshuu, the first Trunks DVD got a re-release at the same time as the other DVD because it originally had some errors with the subs and such that got fixed in the re-release. Those filler episodes were apparently a Burger King promo on VHS and FUNimation was going to release those as DVD 35 but then opted to instead re-release DVD 34 and put those 2 episodes on them which led to it being referred to as 34/35. The re-releases of both Trunks DVDs can be identified by the text and copyright year as you pointed out, but also by the much smaller "2 versions splash" in the bottom right corner. The re-release of the first Trunks DVD is quite rare, I can't find it on eBay at all by itself.
There were bonus CDs of images from Budokai 2 & Budokai 3 included in some action figure battle packs. These are pretty rare and the unopened packs go for hundreds
There is supposedly a rerelease of the first volume of Trunks because the subtitles in the original versions were bad and the rerelease version of Prelude to Terror fixed it.
Detailed explanation incoming! 2:53 That's because they wanted these 2 DVD releases to be released shortly after the Cartoon Network airings. The Trunks Saga started broadcasting on September 4th 2000, and ended on September 13th. Short Saga and all, plus there were episodes every weekday so yeah. Both of the DVDs were released on September 26th, 2000, which makes them the 3rd and 4th FUNimation Dub Single DVDs released, the previous 2 being the Ginyu Singles which were both released on June 20th 2000. Also the Ginyu DVDs also had slant text. I presume the Trunks DVDs were rushed to be released for the reason stated above. This would make sense, because both Trunks DVD has a few issues going on, like the subtitles being a bit too high, lack of eyecatches, etc. The reason why the Original 2000 Trunks DVD only had 3 episodes is because they planned to release a DVD with 2 episodes, but only the VHS got that release via a Burger King promotion. The DVD with 2 eps was scrapped, so they just re-released it with 5 episodes. And yes, these DVDs were for promotional material, though it wasn't their *only* purpose, it was also to have more episodes on DVD and there were a ton of people asking for more DBZ DVD releases after the Ginyu DVDs got a ton of praise. 4:27 Actually, it DID get a re-release. The re-release fixed the issues like i stated before with the eyecatches, subs, etc. The re-released version of the first Trunks DVD also got ''The World of DBZ'' feature video might i add, so that's another way to see if you got the re-release or not. 5:02 Actually, that's not true. By the end of 2002, around 2 years after the Trunks DVDs were released, all of the Ginyu, Frieza, Garlic Jr., Trunks, Android, Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, World Tournament, Babidi, Buu and Fusion Sagas were *ALL* released on DVD, plus the first Cell Games and the first 2 Kid Buu Saga DVDs might i add. The only saga's that didn't get released yet is most of the Kid Buu Saga, most of the Cell Games and Great Saiyaman Saga. And if we leave 2002 out, Ginyu, Frieza, Android, World Tournament and the Babidi Saga's were released, which is a *good chunk* of the series being released on DVD, not even including the previous Pioneer DVDs. 6:28 Yes, that is correct. It's encoded better, but also less compressed because for one, there are only 2 episodes on the disc rather than your average 3, and it's only in English, unlike the Singles, plus there is no menu. Though it does have half a episode of Yu Yu Hakusho and some neat promo's in the end, i love the Legacy of Goku 2 and Budokai 1 for the Gamecube promo trailers from that DVD. Also, it's not from the same *transfer* but rather from the exact same *master* because if it's the exact same transfer from the Singles, it'll look no better because it's just taken directly from that release, but it's not. Both are from the Digibeta masters, the other is better encoded, less compressed, etc and that's very nice. One thing to note from the Best of Goku, best of Vegeta, best of Gohan etc is that the footage from these DVDs are just from the Orange Bricks, so it's nothing really special. It's literally the Orange Brick transfer, and these Best of DVDs have full episodes of said fights, so if you have all of the Orange Bricks these DVDs are absolutely useless other than for collecting purpose or maybe for the DVD Menu, which really isn't anything special anyways. So, that's what i have to say about this video! I hope you'll see this essay of a comment or maybe respond to a thing i had to say.
FYI the year 2000 was the first year DVD releases of “Captain Ginyu: Assault” and “Captain Ginyu: Double Cross” ...these two Captain Ginyu DVDs have the slanted text... Makes me wonder if there was any “Frieza: Summoning” that was slanted amongst the first DVD releases..?? Hmm.
Future Trunks is my favorite character on Dragonball Z. Back when there was Suncoast I used to spend all my money every month back when I was in junior and high school. I was a huge fan of Dragonball Z. I remember when I went to get some more Dragonball Z movies before I left they gave me a free sample disk that had the first two episodes of Dragonball GT. As soon as I got home I watched the sample disk and just had to get the first disk of GT and one episode of Fruits Basket. I still love Trunks as my favorite character out of all of them. I love all of Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT. Dragonball Super not so much.
Here’s the story behind these releases They did the first 2 Ginyu Discs in the summer of 2000. The DoubleCross one had many timing errors with the subtitles. Everyone complained about it at the time and Funimation worked with people to get a replacement. Then later on the replacement disc was shipped to stores. The Trunks discs were released next because that was the current arc airing on TV. They originally had 3 episodes a piece. The 2 filler episodes were a Burger King exclusive on VHS and a DVD release of those 2 was going to happen later on. The Prelude to Terror DVD also had subtitle timing issues and even a random missing one that appeared on top of the screen later in the episode. This disc was also recalled and reissued with this fixed. At that point, they decided also include the 2 filler episodes and not do a separate release of those. As for why they were released in 2000 and the Freeza ones were from 2003? They basically were trying to be current with the VHS releases so they could sync them up so they jumped ahead. They jumped ahead again when the Buu arc was released, leaving both The Cell Games and Freeza discs to be released much later. Needless to say, the series had a very complicated release. They would constantly jump ahead so they could release newly dubbed episodes months BEFORE they aired on CN to take advantage of people who didn’t want to wait
Yup. I was one of those people. I bought the uncut DVDs of Kid Buu Saiyan pride, dbgt conversions, and Generations at least Weeks ahead of the Toonami schedule.
@@BrianAwesome I remember they started selling the discs at Target for 14.99. A steal in 2002-2003 I found the last volume of Buu on sale early at FYE FOR 30.00 and I grabbed it immediately. Even though I could see it if I literally waited 2 weeks lol
I believe the 2000 release Trunks DVDs were the very first uncut DBZ episode DVDs released. IIRC, they were put out first because the episodes were just beginning or just about to air on Toonami. Shortly thereafter, Funimation started the first of many rejiggerings of their DBZ DVD releases. I remember being outraged when I first saw they were putting out three episodes for something like $25 and realizing that owning the entire series would cost a fortune.
It is so much easier (and cheaper) to get (most) older releases of a show now and days. To bad we can't make some thrift store/flea market/goodwill/eBay runs, Then go back in time (or multiverse hop) to a past, and share these So our younger/alternate selves, won't have to pay $25 for three episodes.
The odd ball dvds were produced by pioneer, just before funimation took everything in house. The latter ones are the 100% funimation releases. They're not promotional, they were ordered from specialty magazines like miles kimble and collections etc.
I think that trunks prelude to terror DVD with 5 episodes seem more rare than the one with 3. I own the 3 episode one, but I can't find that 5 episode DVD nowhere.
It's not a dvd but I've got a Dragon Ball: Red Ribbon Army- West City Chase (uncut) and General Blue- Underwater Hunt (uncut) Vhs what made these rare was they were briefly released just to get replaced by General Blue- Lost in Penquin Village and Commander Red- Danger For Hire before more than Suncoast receiving the first two, only place I ever saw them. Still would love to know if the last four cell games edited vhs exist somewhere and that General Blue volume with Launch on the cover
For Captain Ginyu Double cross the copyright date says 2000 on it so is this other set supposed to be different? The disc looks like the second one though.
Ok that Trunks The mysterious of the Youth. I have that one as I looked on the copyright date and it says 2000. However for Trunks Prelude To Terror I looked on the copyright date it has 2002 and it has 5 episodes. So does that mean serious mysterious youth has more episodes to in the 2002 release?
I had to go back to this video i have been in search all the best in fights and I taught i got them all The Best of Goku, gohan, vegita and the villains. My life was complete lol. Today looking at the $3 dvd bin at Walmart all the way in the bottom i found the best of Piccolo! My jaw hit the floor tried to look for another one in the 3 other bins and nothing. Cant find it online or any info on it. Definitely i found a unicorn.
@futuregohanssj2 I was told that the dragon ball z level set 2.1 was shipped to stores before they canceled it as well but I can't ever find a copy do you know if this is true and have you ever found any?
FutureGohanSSJ2 that's too bad I have a contact who knew the person for the voice actor who does future trunks and I asked him a year ago about them but he didn't have anything for us as well. My friend didn't want to bother him too much about dbz stuff so it was a favor for me. I really wanted those damn 2.1 bluray alot of people would be happy. I know some greedy pos has them and won't share cause he is too busy laughing at us with his rare bluray or has no idea that everyone wants it online.
FutureGohanSSJ2 toonami since funi never released all the nep previews and recaps only on the first and last of the dvds/blurays. Mainly the Bruce fal voice. Idk why it only showed on cartoon network only which is rather annoying.
Can you react to Toonheads motorheads episode and commercials please! i really want you to please! can you do it i really want you to react to toonheads motorheads episosde it
Sean Daniel Guzman Madman Entertainment is legit, they sold DBZ singles in Australia. So you could buy from them, but it might not work on your DVD player because it’s Australian
"What if I told you"... side note. I appreciate your enthusiasm for my beloved dbz bro. Always cool to see.

Your really Lucky that you have those Rare DBZ DVD's Congrats Man!!!!
The Trunks DVD had a vhs promotion from Burger King at the time. The vhs is Z Warriors Prepare.

@FutureGohanSSJ2
It's pretty cool you were able to get these rare DVD releases.
i remember the Budoaki 3 Strategy guide came with an episode from GT, during a World Tournament where Buu and Uub fuse back
There’s also best of Gohan and Piccolo DVDs as well.
Gotta get these then. I have Best Of Goku, Best Of Vegeta, Top Fan Picked Fights, and Top Villian Fights.
There might be a third variation of Ginyu Double Cross because mine has a refective top to the disc.
Future Trunks is my favorite character on Dragonball Z. Back when there was Suncoast I used to spend all my money every month back when I was in junior and high school. Yea, I remember Suncoast. Me and my dad use to pre order the DBZ vhs tapes from there.
Damn I miss Suncoast. I used to always find Ocean Dub DVDs there (like the Saiyan Conflict and Namek Sagas) .
Here’s the story behind these releases
They did the first 2 Ginyu Discs in the summer of 2000. The DoubleCross one had many timing errors with the subtitles. Everyone complained about it at the time and Funimation worked with people to get a replacement. Then later on the replacement disc was shipped to stores.

ahh dragon ball z where you have more home releases than filler episodes, and thats saying something.
It's fitting for the Trunks dvds to be released earlier. Much like Trunks himself, they probably just travelled back in time.
@Hoka Burger, 😂
The rareness is over 9000!
I believe the 2000 release Trunks DVDs were the very first uncut DBZ episode DVDs released. IIRC, they were put out first because the episodes were just beginning or just about to air on Toonami. Yup. I remember paying around $20 in 2003, for just THREE Kid Buu episodes.
Yep. I stuck to vhs because dvds were way too expensive at the time. I think they did two vhs(3-4 eps each) at a time for $10 each.
I have Mystical Adventure that my grandpa use to watch :D
SPOILER ALERT: Tien becomes friends with chiaotzu
It is so much easier (and cheaper) to get (most) older releases of a show now and days.
To bad we can't make some thrift store/flea market/goodwill/eBay runs,
Then go back in time (or multiverse hop) to a past, and share these
So our younger/alternate selves, won't have to pay $25 for three episodes.
Dragon ball z rare dvds is awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
woooaah. gimmmie?
Just scored the 5 episode Trunks dvd for $8 on eBay. Also it is in like-new condition
You can get that best of vegeta DVD at my local JB HIFI. Didn’t know it was rare so I may have to pick it up
Bro why they have vegeta losing on his cover when its supposed to be the nest of him 😭
React to more cartoon network old promos and commercials
Did any of the old dvd or video tapes had promo cards in them? Around 2000-2004??
The odd ball dvds were produced by pioneer, just before funimation took everything in house. The latter ones are the 100% funimation releases. They're not promotional, they were ordered from specialty magazines like miles kimble and collections etc.
I used to own dragon ball z the best villains and dragon ball z the best fights
These are extremely rare. Wow, these are awesome,
I got the top 7 Goku fights one for Christmas 2016
What are the episodes on the best of vegeta DVD and trailers and the cover art
I have a rare dvd of Goku vs vegeta that I got in like 1999.
And why funimation don’t sell the 1999 dvd anymore
Strange how that Best of Vegeta DVD was cancelled. Here in Australia, I've seen it everywhere I've seen the Beat of Goku.
I think that trunks prelude to terror DVD with 5 episodes seem more rare than the one with 3. I own the 3 episode one, but I can't find that 5 episode DVD nowhere.
oh wow i actually have the super saiyan future trunks dvd
I bought that "The Best Of Goku" DVD from the walmart $5 DVD bin in 2017
I never liked such a nerdy video as this, keep up the good work lol!
Sweet review dude!!
I wanna say the Journeys DVD came in an exclusive action figure 2-pack, but I could be remembering wrong
I just got the goku one at walmart today
I got it at WalMart in 2017
It's not a dvd but I've got a Dragon Ball: Red Ribbon Army- West City Chase (uncut) and General Blue- Underwater Hunt (uncut) Vhs what made these rare was they were briefly released just to get replaced by General Blue- Lost in Penquin Village and Commander Red- Danger For Hire before more than Suncoast receiving the first two, only place I ever saw them. 4:47 so if I have that rare dvd do I just go to androids invasion and I can skip 109 and 110?
Nice video..now I wanna get them..didnt know they were rare..
Since there’s a different version of the second Ginyu DVD, is the only version of the first one to have the recaps the Australian one?
Damn FutureGohan now you have to make me look at my DBZ DVD Collection because I have some of these DVDs listing and I did even there a different.
Lol I have been looking for Goku but I accidentally found vegeta at Walmart
Cool stuff
I got Dragonball Z Best Fights DVD and The History of Trunks. The Lord Slug DVD I had is gone though 😎
Very cool
For Captain Ginyu Double cross the copyright date says 2000 on it so is this other set supposed to be different? The disc looks like the second one though.
Do you know of any dvd or vhs tapes that included Funimation promo cards from score zone back in the day? dvds vhs tapes from around 2003
They did that in the mid 2000s.
When dollar stores were (seemingly) getting rid of DBZ/Funimation vhs tapes (with cards in them).
TheSSUltimateGoku yup
TheSSUltimateGoku Myserious Youth was never re-released. But no it wouldn't have had more episodes. It only needed the 3.
I also have the one of the trunks DVDs and the journeys dvd
Best of vegeta not so rare nowadays
Ya man..I cant even find that vegeta
I have seen the best of vegeta at my Walmart lmao
It got a re-release!!
I can find the best of goku on DVD for 7 dollars
Well could you upload the cover art of the best of vegeta
@futuregohanssj2 I was told that the dragon ball z level set 2.1 was shipped to stores before they canceled it as well but I can't ever find a copy do you know if this is true and have you ever found any?
Billy McDowell This is true! But I don't know anyone who has a copy.
I forgot to ask you you wouldn't happen. To have all the dbz recaps and next so previews would you? Alot of people are needing those on kametsu.
Billy McDowell All of them from what release? Singles? DBox? What?
FutureGohanSSJ2 toonami since funi never released all the nep previews and recaps only on the first and last of the dvds/blurays. Mainly the Bruce fal voice. Idk why it only showed on cartoon network only which is rather annoying.
Anyone know where to get a us version of best of vegeta dvd? All I can find online is region 4
Are you certain the US version of the best of vegeta dvd is that rare? I collect some myself, it doesn't seem as hard to find now
Because they recently re-released it. But the re-release is different. It comes with a clear case now, but used to come in a black case.
How can u tell ginyu re release when u buy it?
You don't have the best of villains or heroes?
I would never work two jobs that’s just me
I have the best of vegeta
Do they have the saiyan saga for the original 1999 funimation dub
Majid Al jaburi There is no such thing as a Saiyan Saga Funimation Dub from 1999.

You kind of sound like geekdom
So u can't get the best of Vegeta anywhere
Sean Daniel Guzman nope
FutureGohanSSJ2 I found a website called madman entertainment and it has it is it a scam
Sean Daniel Guzman
Madman Entertainment is legit, they sold DBZ singles in Australia. So you could buy from them, but it might not work on your DVD player because it’s Australian
They have UK version thuo

FIRSTTT COMMENT
No one cares.
Who do you care to comment?
No one really. Why does anyone act like getting the first fucking comment is a bigger achievement than climbing Mount Everest?
I'm only 9 why do you have to care so much about a stupid comment from a fricken child???
It just feels like "first comments" are the most attention grabbing thing imaginable. Also, I didn't know you we're 9.
