They should go back to being called Xero and maybe bring back the original front man. Just an idea idk if that would work I just want the band to come back. They helped me through a lot when I was younger. I was 14 when they dropped Hybrid Theory.
i was shocked when their lost song dropped for meteoras 20 yr anniversary, but my shocked was replaced with a memorial smile as chester voice burst into my ears after not hearing in in quite a while, i hope they can find a few more 'lost' tracks to post cause fuck that song made me realize how much i miss chester

I can completely now see why Chester killed himself. We see it time and time again. people become hugely popular, and they can never create that fame. just like like Chris. They made it big, but couldn't come close to that feeling again. so they said fuck this world. I cannot imagine the rest of there life after their second or third album. imagine peaking in the only thing you though you were good at. Most people have this experience in high school, then realize things don't last forever and then move on. But for those who do something major but think this was not a one off, then after 5 years turn away and think they can do something as great again, but ultimately fail the second time and realize they are not special, just lucky. I can totally see why these great performers, end tragically., weather through the the slow way or the quick way. Many of them wrapped themselves into there work and when the worked ended so did they! It's sad really. We are not the person we were yesterday. we are who we are now! right now you are a different person then you were yesterday! The person Yesterday is a stranger to you now, don't take credit for yesterday!
"Who was Linkin Park making this record for?" I think most people dont get it, they made music for themselves, they made whatever they wanted to do. LP is not in a box, they kept trying new stuff and they succeded at it, LP's essence is not a genre, is making songs that mean something
Exactly. Chester wanted to make songs that he wanted to make. Call it selfish. Call it a betrayal of his fans. But its something he was proud of. I hate to think how he felt when everyone shat on Chester for doing what he wanted to do
It's genuinely disappointing when you put it into perspective. Chester made music he wanted fans to understand, to see if anyone would hear his pleas of depression and suffering only to be turned on because the art he wanted to make; the things he felt at the time of album releases wasn't what the fans "liked." In essence the fans dissatisfaction was a blow to Chester himself and his own feelings. If anything it likely made him think his demons were being rejected. or better put that his issues held no worth to the fanbase.
This is very similar to how BMTH now (who I think are the most natural Linkin Park “successors” to be fair)

One More Light is the perfect album for coming to a full circle in their career. From angsty teens to responsible parents that still carry the generational trauma (from Numb to Invisible), from In The End (nothing matters!) to One More Light (you matter!). I hope everyone got that message of their career.
I think their earlier albums just resonated with people, it was relatable, cause it represented life, this world soo perfectly.

One More Light was Chester’s album if you know his full history and his struggles with mental health, depression and suicidal thoughts you will understand what the album is about and really learn to appreciate it.

After the suicide, I couldn't listen to one more light again. That sugary poppy sounding album became the darkest one they had ever made.

You summarized it perfectly thought. Although most of the album sounds rather uplifting and hopeful, the fact that Chester took his life right after release puts it in such a dark spot.
Linkin Park's lyrics are often ignored, but they're one of the most important part of their work, and helped me appreciate A Thousand Suns (my favourite album by them) and One More Light

Linkin Park literally wrote the soundtrack to my life. Losing Chester was like losing a brother. This band has been played in my car, to my kid or at my gym at least once a day for over twenty years.

Any LP fan that has stayed long enough would tell you what A Thousand Suns is to the community. It's an underrated masterpiece and one of the most innovative albums of the 21st century, didn't deserve the hate then and I'm glad that finally, people are beginning to see what LP tried to offer through the entire ATS-Living Things phase.

Linkin Park is one of those few bands that I actually feel grew up. I barely listened to “The Hunting Party”, probably because it felt “off” from where I was at at the time. “One More Light” is actually refreshing and a gem, truly.
The beautiful thing about a band’s discography is that I can go back and listen to their old stuff and their new stuff and find an album or a track for every mood.
I actually had started truly enjoying “One More Light” when the news about Chester came out and it truly broke my heart. There’s so much of Chester in that album… 😢
I’ll probably rank LP as one of my all-time favorite bands exactly for their eclecticism.
But yeah: “Minutes to Midnight” is phenomenal! 👌

@minato9805 because it felt like LP was forcing themselves to go back to that sound when they were trying to move away from it. Personally, A Thousand Suns is their best album simply because it is their most ambitious album to date. It was a form of art that Hunting Party lacked. One More Light might be a disappointing change for the band but Hunting Party literally proved that even one of the greatest bands in existence could never spark the same miracle with the same sounds.
Woahhh are you me? The last album I heard from LP is "The Hunting Party" and despite that I was quite happy that LP bringing back their old gritty sounds with dirty guitar riffs etc, like you, I couldn't connect much with most songs in that album. I guess its bc it was the time when I was transitioning to adulthood and feeling so wore down with responsibilities so I feel like "The Hunting Party" feels like an echo to "Hybrid Theory" and my angsty teen self in which I no longer am. After Chester passed, I couldn't listen to any of their songs for years until last year. So when I checked out One More Light, it was such a surprise for me and I can kinda see why old fans said it's doesn't sound like LP at all (except Chester's voice). Lyrical-wise, it's still LP. And I agree with your word choice, " eclecticism" is the right word for LP's music😆

It seens to me that "one more light" was Chesters letter. It's a very personal album which people disregarded since "it wasn't true to them". Honestly it is a very touching and sincere album and I'm ashamed that it took Chesters life for me to figure it out...

It was not his. He contributed to only two songs. Stop repeating this in a sad effort to build up on some "too little too late" legacy. There was no breadcrumb trail. If anything, attribute that to Mike for being 90% of the band.
@@macaryl95 shows how much you know about anything, an artist brings forward a song, just because it wasnt his thought doesnt mean he didn't cotnribute. He didn't write all of his lyrics, the whole band collaborated on it. As they did on every album. Try not to be a negative and listen to his performance. A song isnt just melody and lyrics, it conveys emotion and you can tell a lot by someones performance of it. Hence the reason for so many covers of so many songs....

The biggest thing about Linkin Park was every album was a different kind of style so every album felt fresh and you were excited to see what they had coming next.
true. for example, one of my other favorite bands is Billy Talent and they basically never changed their style throughout their albums. with them it would be hard to assign a song to an album based on its style if you haven't memorized it. with Linkin Park you often know which song belongs to which album just based on style.

@CYB3R2K30 Nothing Wrong with One More Light sure it's not heavy rock or anything but it's a emotional album and One More Light became a Tribute Track for Chris Cornell. Definitely got a lot of hate from fans just wanting it to sound like Hybrid Theory.
Linkin Park was a legendary band. I love every one of their albums, but of course, Meteora and Hybrid Theory are my favorites. I honestly felt so sad when Chester died, it felt like losing a close friend, as I had grown up listening to them, and learned to love music through them
I remember the day the news broke he died, It was a date-night just after my birthday, and my fella at the time wasn’t a Linkin Park fan, and couldn’t understand why I was so affected by the news, I spent the rest of the night wandering around the streets in tears, because listening Linkin Park was my outlet for the issues I had when growing up in the 90’s.

Another thing to note is Brad Delson became an intern for Jeff blue after seeing his lecture at UCLA and the domino effect of events would forge Linkin Park. Crazy to think what if Brad wasn't there or if Jeff chose someone else to be his intern. Chester never needed a note. He had all the song lyrics to do it for him... I started listening to Linkin Park around the same year Minutes to Midnight came out when my friend had me listen to In The End and Breaking The Habit. Needless to say I was hooked and still am. Chester's death hit me hard especially after later learning my mother planned to get us tickets to see them live as a late birthday present but not long after, Chester took his own life. I regret never getting to see them live but I'll never regret loving their music and ALL of their studio albums.
I think I'm around the same boat you are in. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly when I found Linkin Park, my memories of my early childhood are a bit foggy from tramua, but i might have been between the ages of 8 and 10 (2008-2010?). I'm not even sure what song it was that I found, or how I even found it, but I remember that they are still the first band that hit these specific criteria: I found them completely on my own without any outside recommendation, was hooked on them immediately, love every single song and album and know every song, album, lyric, instrumental, you name it by heart (the two remix albums are not ones I listen to, due to personal taste, but i appreciate them just as much as the others for the creativity and trying something different), has had such an impact on me now over 10 years later that I will actually tear up on certain songs or just reading comments about other fans' love for them. Linkin Park kept me going and pushing through everything and still does today. I actually had concert tickets for their one more light US tour, but it was the week after Chester passed. Nothing has made me break down as hard as getting home from a camp where I had no phone access and heard rumors the day before I went home. I actually locked myself in my room and cried for hours listening to them. On the bright side, I love seeing all the fans that still listen and share their stories of growing up with the band, I even got my first tattoo in honor of them. Hope that wasn't a lot but I've always wanted to share my memories of this band with others in this way. This band is everything to me, and to so many others around the world, I can't name a single more influential band with this kind of legacy that debuted in the 2000s, while pushing past every backlash and demand from the world. They kept true to their roots as an "evolving band" and learned to make music that they wanted to make, and I think that is absolutely beautiful. Im waiting to see them get up on stage to accept their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025, even if they are only nominated, I believe that would be such an honor and truly something Chester would be proud of.

Meteora is by far the best album they have ever made. I think a lot of people are nostalgic about Hybrid Theory, but Meteora is much more refined, the melodies, the production, it's a perfect album in the genre

Themselves. From ATS onwards, they never cared about getting a massive hit or a big selling album out. Linkin Park would and always have sold out ever arena they go play in all around the world. They don't need a big album that will get radio play.
They make albums they like. They write songs they want to write. Not songs they hope will become popular.
Thats the aspect of linkin park people don't understand. Mike shinoda has said it countless time, they could make 10 more albums that are absolute copies of Hybrid Theory and Meteora and have it sell millions and millions. They did not do that because they started writing songs they wanted to write.

“Lost In The Echo” is in my opinion, the perfect middle point of Linkin Park discography, the aggressive rapping of asserting dominance by Mike Shinoda, the powerful chorus and screaming breakdown of Chester, the heavy powerchords and the scratching, combined with the complex electronics layers, it was the perfect blend between old and new material and it’s my favourite and most listened to track by my Itunes and Spotify count

I am a die hard fan from hybrid theory which came out when I was 13. I still have many many song in my Spotify Playlist. The nostalgia will never go away, but to me, how could they ever move on after 17 years with such an incremental singer like Chester.

It's worth mentioning that at the start of the pandemic, Mike Shinoda started streaming on Twitch, mainly producing new instrumental music 5 days a week, though he occasionally works on drawing/art or gaming. Later, he cut back his schedule to 3 days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Also, I know a lot of people who think A Thousand Suns is criminally underrated, especially with the harsh critical reviews when the album was released. I personally think that that's LP's most artistic endeavor, and it paid dividends.
A thousand sun's has lots of hidden meaning in the lyrics. I don't think the music industry was happy with them. I think the band wasn't too happy after being pushed to do the sellout album, collision course. At least Chester wasn't, Mike always seemed super happy to get more rap involved and more control on his end. On live videos he seems like a control freak at times.

a thousand suns is actually the most critical acclaimed of the lp albums. it's only divisive in the fanbase. it's also my personal favorite
I'm a year late to this discussion.
Hybrid Theory and Meteora still got so much attention because of the emotions presented on those albums. I listened to those albums extensively in my teens. I also loved Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns. But after Meteora, the emotion presented with each album wasn't reflective of what I was feeling and experiencing. 15 years later, fans are asking for more Hybrid Theory and Meteora still. I think that's because while my age group got older and changed, a newer, younger group has now come in and is experiencing things that we used to find relatable from the first two albums.
This doesn't mean that every album after Meteora is bad though. As the band got older, they weren't going to have that anger within them anymore either. So wanting to make something different just makes sense.
When One More Light released, my understanding was Mike and Chester had said in interviews that the album was about family. As parents, they wanted to write music that reflected family, was for family. It's a massive departure from music they had written prior, but that's also where their heads were at now. While One More Light commercially did alright, I think there were a lot of negative vocal critiques of the album and it may have made things difficult for the band post-release.
They could have easily transition into a modern rock genre but instead go into pop when it already saturated, Mike were dissing pop rock back in THP and now making one was a hypocritical move.
My mom loved Meteora, and my dad loved Hybrid Theory, so I guess I was born into a LP Family
I firmly believe Linkin Park always did what _they_ wanted to do & loved at the time; avoiding to serve fans, or anyone for that matter. Even if it meant a 180 degree turn.
Plus their subject matter was really no different.
I firmly believe everyone but Chester did what they wanted after minutes to midnight. Chester wanted to do heavier stuff but got dragged back in.

Chester's death was the only death I've cried over. I never even knew him, I just grew up listening to linkin park, I still to this day listen to their albums to hear Chester's voice again. I miss that amazing voice.

Same. He was the first celebrity whose death shook me to my core. To the point I avoid listening to LP cause I still cry when their music comes on.
One more light was the album that got me back to LP. Chester sounded so good in it. This album was made for the old fans who are now in their mellow, reflective phase of their lifes.
True fans never mellow out. We just go to bed at a reasonable hour.
I grew up with Hybrid Theory and Meteora and those two have always stood for the true LP. Only when Chester left the world I recognised the meaning of "Crawling" and the situations he'd been in. All albums after meteora were not the LP that I knew, but in a vey special way the song "one more light" closed the circle. HT and Meteora will forever be the LP heritage for me.

Mike Shinoda did a react video for One More Light and he specifically says they are making music for themselves, not for their fans, which I really respect. They don't need to be pigeon holed.
Funnily enough, Sharp Edges is one of my favorite LP songs.

Linkin Park has been a huge part of my life, not just mine, but for the millions of fans as well. Their music was able to touch lives, souls even. No matter how many times their music evolved, once a line connects to the listener, that's all that matters.
For the solid fans, from HT to OML and beyond, LP will always be special. For they made us feel that we are not alone, whatever we are going through because their beautiful music.
They should come back as Xero and make whatever music they goddamn want to. Godbless the LP boys

A Thousand Suns was not recognized at the time it was released, but it's an excellent album, even if it escapes the essence of the band, it managed to creatively expand their sound!
Absolutely correct about not being recognized at release. Honestly it’s their best work.
I see MTM getting a similar treatment; it seems to be THE Linkin Park album when people think of that band in this day.
Waiting for the end is definitely my favorite in the entire album. It's kinda giving "embracing the unavoidable doom, but still trying to do your best in the remaining time" vibes to me.
I feel if people were so quick to judge a band for a slightly different change in their sound… they just missing out! Could you imagine if Pink floyd listen to that kind of criticism in the earlier days!?…. EVOLUTION, it’s what it’s about! & I’m a strong advocate for Screams!
You could make the point that Waiting for the End is their best song. You can tell how much the music matured from Hybrid Theory and also them as musicians and song writers. Theres so many melodic little undertones and notes that when you really listen you're like man..this is insane.
Probably my third favorite of their discography. It actually gave me the idea to make a J. Robert Oppenheimer biopic(fuck you Christopher Nolan!).
Thousand suns still remains my favorite album but I literally love all of them and i'm so happy I stuck with them. Their sound evolved in ways that so many other bands failed to do and ultimately broke up. I still feel saddened by Chester's passing and it hit me in ways that i'd always been confused by when listening to others, talking about celebrity passings.

If I am a music lover today it’s because of Linkin Park. I really appreciated their transition with each album. Mike and group were bold enough to take risk with their experiments and keep doing what they believed. I see journey of linkin park as journey of life.
People who dropped off after their first 2 to 3 albums, missed arguably their best work. Their stuff was personal, to the core of who they are as artists. THE HUNTING PARTY is still one of my fav albums of theirs. Absolutely great production.

It was pretty awesome. I’m one of the fans who stayed with LP for the longest time. It’s kind of messed up how much stress a lot of other fans gave LP so much hate because the members didn’t make some songs they like 🤷♂️

The Hunting Party was, IMO, the best album after their shift since MTM. It almost have the same vibe I felt listening to their first two album but still different.

I love One More Light. I was in 9th grade when it was released. I had newly gotten into English music. I remember getting a notification from my music app about its released. I played the first few songs. I liked them. It was the first album I listened to start from finish. The album spoke to me on multiple levels. This led me to discover a few of their older works. And Numb and Crawling would always be the songs that made me feel seen. The band didn’t empower just one generations but multiple.

When I think too much about it, it feels like the progression of their style was about a state of mind. every time. From an angsty Teenager to a fighting man, who finally fell into depression
I feel the same about One More Light now as I did when it came out. "I've never enjoyed a pop album so much, but my problem is I've never enjoyed pop". With that being said, I listened to it at least 10 times upon its release. They kept me curious how they would sound until the end. Would the next album be one where every song could be a single (Minutes to Midnight) or could no song be a single, but the album itself was a masterpiece (A Thousand Suns).
Watching this one after the Coldplay one, it's clear that whether you change up your sound or stay the same - the world will find a way to make bands feel bad lol and I imagine it's tough making 2 perfect albums then having the world never allowing you to forget it, when maybe your creative mind is craving something else.
That happened to Metallica after their first 4 albums......

LP fucked it up with ATS, because they switched genres. They could've stayed within rock music like they did with MTM, but they had to go make some experimental shit that no one cared to listen to.

Imagine dropping something like Giving Up and being called sellouts lol. Sharp Edges has always been one of my favorites by them. Other than Hybrid, each album had hit or misses for me, but I've always respected all the work they've done.

LP helped me through different stages in my life, most importantly it helped me with depression and trauma. the aggressive sounds of the earlier songs which helped me with my own angry phases as a teen, to the more hopeful songs later on as an adult just as i needed them later in life. i dont think any band ever had so many songs that i relate and cried(cry) to
out of all bands i listen to i think LP is the only one where i can listen to all albums on shuffle and not feel the need to skip a song
Linkin Park was so different from other bands. They had something that differentiated them from others. Pure music, pure talent each band member had. Truly a greatest band ever.
I would most likely not be here and typing this without LP. The band helped me through my toughest of times and technically was what kept me going when I had nothing else to lose. Love them or hate them, we have to admit that LP is an awesome band and will forever live in our hearts.
This is what LP was. The most appealing thing to me about them was never the nu metal sounds, or the instrumentation, or various genres they played. It was the raw emotion that so many of their songs brought. I went through some hard times and their music helped me feel like I wasn't alone, and that others had gone through that same pain and I could make it through that too.

I got into linkin park after minutes to mid night, and a thousand suns was the first linkin park album i actually heard in full(i was a kid when it came out). And the experimentation just blew me away. It was an instant favourite of mine, even after falling in love with hybrid theory and meteora, ATS remained my favourite record from the band. I was quite shocked when i found out old fans were generally not enjoying it.
It made me a lot more open to the band changing their sound with every record that followed.
Sadly one more light's sound change was the less unexpected event that happened and we lost Chester. But the impact of Linkin park's ever evolving sound will stick with us.
I'm ashamed to admit that i was one of "those" fans who went "wtf is this?" when ATS came out. But nowdays is probably my second favorite album by them. Is not perfect but it's really admirable what they they were going for, and the themes are great! Also "Robot Boy" is a super underated track that could easily fit in any Cyberpunk flick

Their sound could only change or evolve in a way that fit the subject matter of most of their songs across all their albums, so that limited them in a crucial way.

Idc about others opinion i was always banging my head on the beat while listening to each and every song they made. They were truly passionate about their work and even today whenever i feel lost or empty their songs keeps me going. For that i'm really grateful for this band, as a teenager i was so obsessed with their music that I tattooed their logo on my elbow before CB's death, now it always reminds me of him.
One more light meant so much to me when it came out. And it still does, my favorite album.

Hunting Party is definitely the most underrated album of theirs. It’s one of my favourites and I’m sure it is for lots of other fans. It’s got so much energy in it and when you listen to drumming from Rob you can feel how excited and hard he was playing. Also, one more light is a good album. It’s not for the regular metal heads. It’s for people who like pop rock music. Linkin park doesn’t make music for an individual community, they make music for everyone because that’s who they are. They love what they do and they know their fans do aswell
I like stuff in Hunting Party but it's forgettable compared to the other albums overall. I didn't even like everything on Living Things but I can name songs and sing along to them. Hunting Party, I like every song but can't remember anything that wasn't a killer guitar solo..

DREAM album. and also, probably the only record that was made as a whole, live like a live band. i can think of so many details that we can´t hear on the rest of their records.
Hunting party is the only album i only heard one time, i didnt like one song. Today i might enjoy a few of these songs, but at the release i thougt the whole thing just sounds awful.
I discovered Hunting Party when OML came out and everybody was disappointed and i wrote a comment that LP didnt do anything remarkable after meteora anyway then somebody replied well the previous album was a banger. Gave it a try, holy shit. I totally missed it.
I remember around 2015 I worked in a factory for weeks where there was a radio on all day and it repeated all the 30 biggest new hits all day and pretty much hated all of them, including castle of glass. Which i heard like 30 times and NEVER realized that was Linkin Park it was so boring and mainstream.
LP did music that felt good to them they are authentic and didn’t sugar coat! I have always respected their creativity and the courage to take risks by staying true their talent and genuine love for music. A true LP fan grew with them every Album met me where I was at in my life, losing them was like losing a piece of me. I was devastated when Chester died but anyone who truly connected with LP knew Chester was a gift from God an angels eventually always fly home. I’m just so grateful to have their music still and Mike Shinoda thank you for Post Traumatic the music and lyric’s honestly began my healing process to such a heartbreaking loss
I never knew I’d relate so close to someone from a rock band. Chester’s passing made me sad, and I bawled my eyes out every night (dug into them last year, my Freshman year). But from that realization, I grew stronger and a little more happier because I felt a hole in my heart was patched.

Imagine handing people a different, perhaps more evolved version of what you do and people not being satisfied with the result. It must feel hella draining and anxiety-inducing. I can understand why Chester took people's hatred of One More Light personally. God rest his weary soul.
It's a shame, I actually like that song a lot. I like most of their songs, actually. Some of their "newer" stuff past Minutes to Midnight is a hit or miss, but for the most part I still like them.
Here's what I don't get about music fans let's say Undead Angels my band makes a record it's our first record we decide no we don't want to go style again and we change it the fans I going to be like what the fuck is this we want a album like At first album if we do that they're going to be like why are you making another one of this record I ever had this record I don't need another one
It hurts to write this. I was one of those fans who were angry and fed up when One More Light came out, because I too, wanted them to go back to their root sounds. I'd even write mean comments on some of their OML singles on UA-cam.
Then after chucking them aside in frustration, I learn that Chester took his own life. That destroyed me, because I've grown up with them and loved them so dearly, and yet that last few months were so negative. I had seen the interviews with Chester being fed up with fans dogging them constantly and after his suicide, I felt like one of those fans that hurt him. It's like he left on bad terms with us.
I fell into a deep depression after all that and decided to listen to One More Light with a completely open mind and Heart. It shocked me. It honestly felt more like a cry for help, suicide note type of thing from Chester and it just made me feel even worse for years after, just carrying around this like, seemingly made-up guilt.
We love you Chester, and you'll always be in our hearts.

Exact opposite for me but i understand why every other person thought other whys. But you couldn't have known what was going through his mind during this time, he was going through his mentor and best friend's death... His own family and friends had no idea... Yes the fans could have been nicer about it but he wasn't in a good place mentally

I share this exact same feeling of guilt, we bashed them for so many years. But it wasn't our fault, they had been feeding us with all this bullshit about the whole LP community being a family and all that, and then threw it all away with a weird experimental album about nukes. Whoever that inspired them to abandon the alternative rock scene is partly responsible for his decline and eventual death, not us.
Thanks for sharing your story, it's interesting. Just try to be kind from now on, as I've realised, you'll never know what someone is going through, give people a break because we're all in this boat together

I definitely was more into their earlier albums being born in the 90s, but happily found myself enjoying songs from the other ones too. 'Lost' feels like a gift that was sent to us to remind us to hang in there in our tough times, that things can be good again, and that Linkin Park is always there for us in our various moods.
Lost was in the vault when they were recording meteora so that’s why it has that feel of early linkin park
People didn't get One More light's message until Chester passed away. Behind that pop music, the lyrics were telling us Chester was done, everything was so hard. They were just being sincerely
It didn't matter which direction they were taking, the DIVERSITY is important, and keeping the same sound eventually would kill them. A thousand Suns isn't that great but we must appreciate when they attempt to make something beyond it, but they did it with Living Things, that one is a real masterpiece mixing everything right!
In the end, Linkin Park is unique, with their ways of making all kinds of music and being honest about things, as Chester did in his last work.
Chester understood me before I understood myself. It's fascinating to cycle through their work and watch the changes. His music helps keep me going.
"A Thousand Suns" is one of the best albums I've ever heard-- it's a shame it's so underrated. And as for their last album, I get real mad when people say "One More Light" wasn't a good album. When I heard it, I was a little confused-- after Hunting Party, they went full pop? But it was a very welcome album whenever I was depressed-- which is often. I felt a lot of pain and sorrow and hope come through it, and then Chester Bennington committed suicide, it suddenly made way more of an impact. Chester Bennington died the day after my 20th birthday. I took that very symbolically-- Linkin Park were a band I listened to all throughout high school, through the worst of my depression, and it felt almost like he waited for me to reach adulthood to depart. This was Chester pouring his heart out and it will always remind me to stay strong.

I have loved every album since day one. Honestly, it's amazing that Linkin Park has so many different sounds. When I'm in the mood for some hardrock or for somthing with a bit pop, I always have something to listen to from my favourite band. It still amazes me that so many music critics continue to say fans are dissapointed when LP has a imensely strong fanbase who absolutely adore every album and song ever made.

@@varkonyitibor4409 when i first discovered one more light i was surprised to see it was by linkin park, at the time I wasn't even a linkin park fan (im only 16 rn) and i liked the songs, music taste is subjective, just because the song made by the same band isn't the same crap rewritten and repackaged doesn't mean it can't be good. Many legendary artists and groups went on to create music spanning multiple genres. Just because they made metal music at one point doesn't mean they can't switch to pop rock. And you can't crap on them for doing it since they did it really well.

I love all their albums. Through their entire journey, start to finish. These guys are legendary. My biggest regret is not being able to see a live concert.
One More Light is one of my favorite songs because it felt like a message to those suffering from mental health issues and being in the verge of offing ones self. I was very close to it in high school and nearly did it too after my mental breakdowns. It was only my parents who didn't want my life to flicker out and it got me out of it. So hearing Chester sing it, it reminded me how much depression can cause one to suffer. Even if people dislike the song, found it unlikable by Linkin Park fans. It does not erase the feeling Chester felt. Alone and drowning, hoping someone would listen and receiving nothing in the end.
Am I the only one who actually loved One More Light? It fits perfectly in thematically with the band's progression. The hopeful lyrics, how they grew older and wiser, and more mature.
Yes, you can argue about the sound (I personally love it btw), but thematically and lyrically I think it's the natural evolution of the band.

Sometimes I hear Chester’s vocals and I cry. It’s a sad feeling knowing I’ll never have the chance to see him perform but I also feel grateful listening to LP as I was growing up

I dont agree with every song being a gem but I a 100% agree that the album was still very strong overall. When it got things right it REALLY got things right. Im not a huge fan of the generic pop sound but the lyrics on some of the tracks just knock it out of the park for me. I just wish tracks like battle symphony were scrapped. A frew tracks on there definitely do miss the mark and miss it bad imo. Im very curious if those tracks spoke to people who walked different walks of life though...LP often does that for many.
vocal performances were as great as always but musically it did absolutely nothing for me, the title track is the only one i realy come back to from time to time.

Yes it is vastly different, but especially in context with Chester‘s passing it is a deeply emotional album with a lot of amazing songs.
To me One More Light doesn’t represent Linkin Park betraying the fans, to me it represents them staying true to themselves, innovating themselves and making music they want to write, they associate themselves with. Yes the sound is different . But the themes stayed the same.

I was growing up with LP, they was my introduction to modern rock and metal, and solidified my love of all that is heavy and nice.
I can find enjoyment in the newer more electronic and pop ish albums, LP was and will always be one of the greatest band in my mind.
First time i listen to one more light i hated it, but after is death, i finally understood the lyrics.
For me the lyrics in the album one more light is Chester's goodbye note.
Just re listen to it, and try to put yourself inside a minde,that is broken and depressed.

One More Light was lyrically my favorite album. It was a totally different direction and yet remains one of their best albums imo. People are so set on a specific sound, I didn’t mind the pop infused tracks. Reality is, if a song moves you, it’s worth listening to, and listening to the words Chester sang still move me today. Pop or not, the message slapped, and I was not disappointed.
I’m a metal head myself and when I first heard the single “Heavy” I remember hating it. And I didn’t give the “One More Light” album a chance. Until after he passed away I was listening to their music and I was hearing thoughts on their newest album at the time. Then I finally gave it a chance and then I actually loved it. Then I felt bad. Kind of taught me a life lesson that genre doesn’t really matter that much. It’s not a bad thing to prefer a genre but it’s also to okay to mix it up a little. I should also cut myself some slack since back then I was a angsty teenager at the time but yeah I think it’s important I learned that lesson sooner rather than later.

I have always prided myself on loving One Step Closer ever since it debuted on MTV early in the morning on a random day. I spent all the money I had at 17 on their CD and loved discovering every track. I have always been a lifelong fan no matter what they did but I wish they didn’t change so much. My memory may be off, but I swear there was a time where bands like MCR, Green Day and Linkin Park were the cool picks for everyone to hate or diss in some way (Coldplay to some extent as well), and somewhere within the past few years or so it feels like that has changed and more people were openly honest about their love for them. Perhaps I'm just used to people not liking bands from 2000-2009, and people are free to love or hate what they want, but I am glad this video exists. Muse also feels like a band that would be perfect for this channel to cover given how people have seemed mixed about everything from Resistance and onwards and also happen to be in a worrisome spot as far as what they will do moving forward.
@feargm My guess is time away from some of them has helped for some people. Can't say I'm really a huge Limp Bizkit fan, but I can rock out to Wham, and when I was younger I thought I'd get a hand on a member of Duran Duran. But back to what you were saying, I do have a soft spot for Avenged Sevenfold and Slipknot, although Korn for me I like but don't love. Personally, I'm rather mixed on the 2010s, but I've warmed up to some acts from that time period to some extent.
Yeah, lately there has been a love for Nu Metal and Pop Punk bands. More and more people are talking good about the sound of bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park and admitting to love their music. That and there has been a little of a resurgence in music of the old style with bands taking notes of the old Nu Metal material like I Prevail and Bring Me The Horizon for their music and newer ones bringing back the old music, like Tallah and Ded.
@@danysora You're definitely right about the resurgence. I'm also curious now how people are going to look back at 2010-2019, because admittedly it's a decade I have rather mixed feelings on. I felt very mixed on groups like Imagine Dragons and whoever made that "Best Day of My Life" song and assumed that was the music everyone loved, and production wise I'm really not crazy about most of that stuff, and also there were bands who I enjoyed in the 2000s but felt didn't make nearly as good music in 2010s. In recent years, a little bit of time away has helped me discover bands I enjoy from that time period such as Baroness, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Ghost. I could probably go on for longer, but much like Sam Elliot in The Big Lebowski, I'm rambling again.
When Chester passed away, I was first sad then turned really angry to see all these people pay tribute to him and the band "because they loved their first two albums and it represents their youth and it's too bad they turned shit after that". They were literally spending their time shitting on LP as long as it was the trend then trying to get their moment of glory by paying tribute to them. Mostly from people who didn't make the effort to listen to their other albums more than once. Then time went by and I started thinking otherwise, I'm now actually really proud that the band was able to touch so many people, whatever the reasons were to like them.
@@harizonflamingice3167 I'm really trying hard not to sound like the old head hitting on recent stuff, but I've always felt like there has been a huge turn in music industry around 2007. The 90's and early 2000's really were a pinnacle of diversity, every genre had its core and fanbase and it was all living in harmony around various radio stations. Since 2007, I feel like hearing the same sounds with little variations from a year to another but mostly that weird feeling that genres have blended into one big pop sound a lot of people evolve around. Most of the biggest metal/pop/rock, even hip hop/rnb artists slowly faded to popier sounds. Some artists still find ways to step aside and produce really unique sounds of course, but while I still have fun listening to most mainstream songs, I really feel like we lack diversity.
Bring Me The Horizon with Post Human: Survival Horror is the closest thing we will have to Linkin Park in the new generation of Nu Metal/Metalcore/Alt

I actually love One More Light. I think it’s Heartfelt and touching. My favorite albums are definitely the first 3 but I’m a big fan of all their albums and ever changing style. I’m so sad that Chester is gone. I hope the rest of the band find what they are looking for.

I grew up with Hybrid Theory, Meteora and Minutes to Midnight. I didn't left the band behind when they released A Thousand Suns, but i still remember in the LPU community, a lot of fans were speculating. But still, most of us were happy of where the band was going. Then came the Living Things and i started question my own loyalty to the band. I thought, like everyone else did before, they sold out. Nevertheless, i didn't turn my back and stuck around until Hunting Season. And boy oh boy, how have we gloating to those who left early. It was quite funny at the time, seeing that we were right to stick with the band than just leaving them in the dust after just one release. And then, Linkin Park released Heavy. To be hundred percent honest with you, i was not mad or disappointed. I was hyped. Maybe it's because around that time my own taste in music was also changing but i was hyped for One More Light. Still today, i quite like the album. Not the best so far but still, a quite nice one. But these were times when i was really pissed off against the fans. Don't get me wrong, i'm not accusing anyone or calling anyone bad, but the behaviour, the comments, the unproductive criticism was very harsh and out of tone. I never thought, one of the best if not the best fanbase in the world could turn out like that. I'm not saying i was expecting everyone to be chill and understanding, but still. Quite harsh. When i heard that Chester was gone, i was in shock but i felt that i was expecting it. The peer pressure, the passing of a great friend and more, i was praying hard for him to not do something like that. I know this sounds cliche and overdone but i mean every single word when i say Linkin Park, changed my life, defined my taste in music, inspired me to write and sing but most of all, made me who i am today. Sometimes i just wish that i could give Chester a big hug and Mike a great fist bump. Hangout with the boys in general y'know. And maybe one day i could say to Mike and the boys " Thank you, for all you've done for us. " face to face, that's what keeps me going to this day. Rest in peace Chester, " I do. "
I thought a thousand Sun's was good. I'll always love Chester's singing. But a living thing and hunting party was the worst two albums they made. They had maybe 2 good songs on each.
One more light was good, but it was a clear cry for help from Chester, and his band and family did nothing.

When a band completely changes their sound, starts making music in a genre you don't like/listen to, and the quality of the songwriting drops you can't blame people for moving on. Were these people supposed to listen to music they don't like just cuz it was Linkin Park? You can't honestly tell me the stuff on hybrid theory is even comparable to what came out 2-3 albums later cuz its not. I dont blame the band for wanting to try different things and go in a different direction, but its not what many of their fans wanted/liked

This make me realize, for "older" band there's no winning.
If you stay on the same genre/sound there will be fans that disagree and when you chance your genre/sounds there will be some that disagree.
That's why for the most part i'm glad LP did what they've done. They "grew" their music and that's make them enjoyable all these years.
I mean sure when you're young you can just blast Meteora or Hybrid Theory on loop all the time but when you get older, stuff like One More Light is a pretty good addition.
IMO their best song, for me, is Leave Out All the Rest. That song just hit different.
honestly, the trip linkin park has gone through is only negative becuase the fans made it so. if you take a step back, and just listen to everything in order, sure, it may seem weird.
but to burn the band at the stake for trying to appeal to any side of the party, being demanded of one thing, and getting flailed by another, is just one way to tear a band at the seems.
i think they dont deserve the hate. they have tried so damn hard to make down to earth music for the genres they stepped foot in, and indeed, in the end... it doesnt even matter... to the fans.
Dude I’m sorry I’m a huge linkin park fan but One More Light is definitely one of the worst albums I’ve heard in my entire life. The problem is not that they tried to “evolve” and fans didn’t support it, it’s just that they failed to find an identity past their first two albums. I mean look at Paramore, they manage to reinvent themselves in a cool way with After Laughter, Linkin Park just didn’t.
One of the things I love the most about Linkin Park is the change in genres throughout the years, and I’ve never understood why people got mad about this.
@@eduardosilveira6974 You can feel LP's touch on every of their album, their identity is quite distinctible whatever genre they explored. Except for OML which is a very bad album overall as you said and just could have been played by any other pop band. Their other albums wore their trademark, OML doesn't (apart from 2 or 3 songs) and it kinda shows even more when you know a lot of people had to learn Chester passed away to really give it a meaning (with all respect due to Chester and the fans, I'm not judging it's just a morbid way of appreciating it to me).

I love Linkin Park BECAUSE of their diversity. Depression looks different. From person to person and for some people, day to day. For me, Linkin Park has albums and songs that fit whatever my mood is at the time. Sure, there are some that I like more than others, but they are hands down my favorite.
One more light is a beautifully written and deep record. I too am a fan of songs like "what I've done", but I find myself putting on and listening to "one more light" quite frequently. I think the more stripped down songs lend themselves to Chester's voice beautifully.
(From a fan since ever who enjoys all their music and holds high regards towards the majority of their work) I feel like Minutes to Midnight was their gateway to maturing as musicians (as one can notice they began to develop a different kind of sound in multiple tracks on the album). A Thousand Suns was their first experiment with that new vision they got from MtM which then evolved and they nailed it with Living Things (IMO their best album - it fit perfectly the ‘era’ of when it was released and I feel like if you could combine their entire discography into one album, it’d be this one).
Then Hybrid Theory and Meteora are just classics and will always remain like that.

I feel the exact same way and that is why 'Minutes to Midnight' is my favourite LP album! They not only matured as musicians but the album also signified that they had also matured as a person and were now adults. They were out of that rebel phase and it reflected not just in sound but also their lyrics. Songs like 'Shadow of the Day', 'In Between', 'Valentine's Day', 'Leave Out All The Rest' really make that album imo.
I agree. As much successful as HT and Meteora were, that genre was somehow very popular during the early 2000s, and it wasn’t about who did it the best or worst - all of them were original (Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Evanescence, etc). Those were very good years for that renovation of rock music but what happened with the MtM-ATS-LT trilogy was a mix of pure innovation and creativity at its best. When someone goes out of their path like how they did, they know the risks. They’d probably get criticised if they made a third album that sounded like their first two anyway (Mike even says something alike in ‘When they come for me’). I remember when I first listened to ‘Burning in the skies’ and I thought ‘this is Linkin Park? They surely changed’. And I know lots of people criticised them for going ‘soft’ but IMO it was rather a process of transition than ‘softening’ or ‘going commercial or going pop’. They kept selling out concerts! I first saw them in Lisbon in 2014 alongside 70.000 people!!
If anything it was MtM and what came after that really got me into their music, not Hybrid Theory nor Meteora (sorry fans who rate either one their best :-) )

LP is one of the most underrated creative band to ever exist. It's hard to classify LP as a specific genre. For years, they broke barriers and blurred the lines between genres and always tried something new. They did a great job doing what they did and made music for people like me who patiently waited for their every new release and play their songs on loop. RIP Chester.

I grew up with Living Things. That was actually the album that got me into the band.
Being a hardcore Linkin Park fan I loved all their music. I feel like One more light was in a way Chester Bennington’s suicide note. After listening to the entire album I just had a weird feeling that something was wrong. Then two months later Chester took his life. I actually love the album. I like different, I guess I just try to appreciate the different types of music styles. Those songs helped me through some of my most difficult times in my life including my clinical depression. I just don’t think I’d even be here today if it wasn’t for their music. God bless Linkin Park.
I had same feeling, I listen on repeat One More Light that night Chester die thinking something bad is happening/or will happen.....next day my mother enter my room and woke me up with this sad message....i though that she throw up dark joke but then i open phone and it was painful truth.
His lyrics were always very concerning and depressed but when this album came out it was on a higher level it was very clear to me what he wanted to say and indeed the entire album felt like a goodbye.

Given Up was always depressing. Even when he was alive, it was always depressing as fuck. But people are like "oh shit, this has now different meaning". Just what. And you know, like i said in other comment, OML was made with 40 PRODUCERS, which is insane. They were probably talking most of the time on how the record should sound. It is shame, that no one is talking about how Rob destroyed his back for Hunting Party. That is also so emotional, but no one will praise that for some reason.

A thousand suns in my opinion is an absolute masterpiece. I've listened to them since their first album right through, seeing them live many time, to me ATS is perfect.
