@@steveolesen8033 : So? In general, they truly don't cost THAT much more. Most importantly, manufacturer & dealership support is still there & everywhere, which is a huge factor for most everyone, when buying ANY tractor or vehicle, for that matter.
You could also say the same thing about Kubota, Toyota & Honda... they're more costly up-front, because they are.
But, you simply can't argue that they're also better than their competition, because they are.
I'm not even a fan or owner of any of them, although I probably should be.

Depends what your looking for? Do you want a big tractor do you want a newer style, I like the older tractors because you can work on them. I tend to favor the older John Deere's like the 4840 or the 2840 the 2950 I don't know if it had transmission problems but it is duel manual stick i never heard about problems with them it is what I prefer over hydro. The White might be on my list just because it has a 3208 Cat engine you can still get engines all over the place for it. The Ford and the Massey's are nice and the Kubota is really nice. Don't really want those old gasoline tractors.

Yes I understand why they are very good that is why so many own them and I agree . Sort of like when you go to a car show and you see so many Chevrolets I get it I just like seeing something different once in a while.

7710 is probably a eurospec out of Canada imported from England. Those fenders are the European style. It should have had a light bar in front of the lower grill. They were building them in Romeo Michigan for the US market, and building them in Basildon, England for the rest of the world. Lots of components for the US spec’ed ford tractors from the 1000 series & up were manufactured in Basildon, with final assembly in Romeo. The item to watch at this auction is the Kinze 3500 6 row planter. It’s going to bring the money. prebidding is already at $20,000

Those old Fords are still very popular here in my part of southern Missouri. In fact, I heard a guy say recently that he wishes he could find a good 7700 to swap his new Kioti for. It's getting harder and harder to find them in good shape. Now that I think about it, I guess I've run more Ford tractors than anything else. Gotta chime in here. Nice little walk through on a few old iron tractors, but I have to say, the best tractor in that lineup is the Massey 1155 hands down. Don't get me wrong, the JD 4840 is also a beast of yesteryear, but beings that I grew up in the late 70s and my grandfather owned our local equipment dealership which was Massey Ferguson, we always had the newest and best Massey Ferguson tractors available, 1105, 1135 and the king 1978 - 1155. Only things to really check out good are the 3pt & remote hydraulics (MCV valve) operation & the PTO clutch. Best thing about the 84 series utility tractors is how easy it is to replace the PTO clutch. You don't have to split the tractor to change the clutch discs, which was a superior design over almost everybody else's.
Oh, and I'll guarantee that vertical muffler on it was brand new, & not just "high-temp painted".

The trouble that I see with 135 Massey’s is that now most of them are pretty much worn, I know that they are a perfect sized utility tractor, most of what I see are due for an engine overhaul. Now if you were buying one with that in mind, then you would have a reasonably good tractor.

The 340 is a 1958. 559 is #59 built. I am thinking that was a 460 diesel converted into a gas. The "Diesel" on the emblems was covered and the water trap was used as a sediment bowl, and the glow plug meter provision was there. On my last 2 auctions, there were lots of beat up John Deeres. I don't find the IH any worse than John Deere or Ford, but I see good ones and beat up ones of all. I do like the 340 and 504, as well as the Allis 175 and 530. @Farmall Fanatic :
    @15:35 :
    MF 1155 = 140 PTO Hp.
Cat II or Cat III was available for the 3pt hitch. Looks to me like that one is a Cat II. (My "smaller" MF 1105 actually had the larger / stronger Cat III hitch with a factory quick-hitch.)
And yes, that IS the factory MF top link on there.
I always get a kick outta how you underestimate the rear tire tread depths on almost every tractor you look at.
Those Goodyear rear tires on that 1155 have plenty of life left in them, and most likely the RH (furrow) tire was replaced more recently than the LH tire.
Only wealthy people or the much larger operations will typically replace costly rear Ag R-1 tires in pairs.
The rest of us only replace them when they're damaged beyond sensible repair, or totally bald.
Those beasts don't command big money, because they fall into the "gap" of being too much tractor for smaller farms, and not enough or simply "too old" for today's large corporate farms. Thus, they sell on the cheaper end of the spectrum, commonly known as "cheap horsepower", in the used Ag sales world.
Btw, this "big hoss" of a tractor will also drink nearly double the fuel of say, that JD 2840 or the Ford 7710, which average around 5.5 GPH, vs the MF 1155's 9.5 GPH of fuel consumption. So, it really all depends if you really need those extra 55 horses or not.
Bigger is no longer desirable for today's small farmer, due to $5.00/gallon diesel fuel & generally much higher equipment maintenance & repair costs.

@@FarmallFanatic Fair enough, but I can tell you that brand new tractor tire lug depths can vary A LOT.
For example, a Firestone "All Traction Field & Road" model R-1 Ag tire does not have really deep lugs, from day one. They also wear fairly quickly.
As a side note: Another thing to note regarding Ag tractor rears is recognizing the deep-lug Rice & Cane versions of tires, vs the more common standard lower height 23° and alternating long bar/short bar V-bar Ag lug.
Many people simply don't know or understand the differences these days, which is kind of understandable, given the overall decrease in farming in our country.
Point is, really deep traction lugs don't necessarily equate to better tires. Sounds strange, I know, but hear me out...
Unless you operate on regular wet/soft ground, a deep lug Rice & Cane tire will actually sustain damage to the tire from excessive lug flex, if regularly operated on harder soils. It's true.
As far as physical dry rot appearance is concerned, that can also vary pretty widely. Some cracks in the tread here & there really don't mean much, and are mostly just cosmetic blemishes in nature, which don't affect their use.
When the tires become heavily cracked throughout the tread depth as well as the sidewalls, & the black of the tire literally "rubs off" onto you when you touch it, then, they're on their way to being toast.
What many people often misconstrue regarding Ag tires is that a low-speed bias tractor tire is NOT like their high-speed radial car tires.
I've successfully run Ag tires that large operators considered "no good" for 20+ years or longer, with no issues.
The most evil thing to happen is rogue tire punctures, which leak the damned CaCl ballast into the rims, prematurely accelerating the rim's demise from corrosion/rot.
Rim condition is also something to ALWAYS pay attention to when buying ANY tractor.
Those PAVT (Power Adjustable Variable Tread) power adjustable rims with the angled rails are really costly to replace VS the hoop-style bolt-on rims or clamp-on hump style rims.

Very common tag location on all of the utility series Deeres from the xx30, xx40, xx50, & xx55 series UTILITY tractors.

@@FarmallFanatic : Yeah, I can't understand the modern-day thinking with how John Deere is running things. They've pretty much taken majority ownership control over all of their franchise dealerships and have forced them all to grow into mini-conglomerates.
What's worst of all, is that they DON'T pay their help reasonable wages, they regularly hire people with no actual agricultural or farm experience, and they have morphed the sales of tractors to mimic that of modern-day junk disposable automobiles.
Then, there's the whole "right to repair" issue with all the modern proprietary electronic crap that they sell. So yeah, I understand people's frustrations with them.
That said, the best tractors they ever built existed from 1962 - around 1992ish. Basically the xx10, xx20, xx30, xx40, xx50, xx55, xx60 series through the early 1990's.
Then, the turn of the century 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 series were still decent, yet radically different from their predecessors. In some ways better, but in many ways, worse.

    • @turbodiesel4709
      @turbodiesel4709 Рік тому

@Glenn Schlorf : Well, you're kinda wrong. No such thing as a JD 2830 model.
The JD 2840 was a pretty good utility tractor overall, with only some folks complaining of weak rear-end issues. They were never intended to be a heavy tillage tractor. To my knowledge, nothing was ever wrong with their actual transmissions, aside from the normal drive & pto clutch wear & tear & replacements.
As for comparing the 2840 Deere to the MF 1155, you shouldn't. The 2 tractors aren't even comparable.
The JD model 4630, or JD 4640 would be the 2 models that are directly comparable to the MF 1155.
Although the overall tractor was decent, most folks are not very big fans of the MF 1155. Some were known to have engine issues & very costly transmission/rear-end failures, particularly when field worked hard, which is what they were built for.
Also, for as much Hp as they produced, the V8 didn't produce all that much torque, for what they were. If my memory serves me correctly, they were about 200 ft-lbs lower on torque, when compared to the competition's 6-cylinder tractors. That's quite a lot less.
They are a big heavy tractor with a powerful engine & weak drivetrains. Multi-power clutch failures, sunshaft & hydraulic pump drive failures, final drive failures, etc.
For those reason(s), they earned a stigma & ya used to be able to buy the used MF 1155 model tractors for dirt cheap at auction, ($2,000 - $5,000 USD) because pretty much nobody wanted them.
The lower Hp straight 6-cylinder turbo diesel MF 1105 & MF 1135 were better & more reliable tractors than the V8-powered 1155, as they were a little better matched to their powerplants, although even the MF 1135's had their share of drivetrain issues, when pushed hard.
