What I'm about to say, I don't intend for it to sound insulting. Just that I notice, when some people who live in the same building as me, get way depressed, they take far less interest in their own pets. I then end up feeling even more sorry for the pet, because I just don't think they should be looked after any less, despite some of their owners getting depressed. I'm sorry, but if you can't take care of your own pet/pets properly, when you're depressed, then you aren't that caring about their overall welfare. That just isn't on. I get depressed MYSELF, but I always make sure that my pets have the same amount of attention from me, as any other time. I will never use depression as an excuse. I might worry about myself, but I don't think ignoring a pets needs, while depressed, is going to make you a great pet owner.
Hi just to let you know, the sunburst seedmix is not safe! It is unbalanced and has recently gotten a new ingredient that is salt, which is not good for hamsters! Some seed mixes I’d recommend are getzoo or bunny nature dream expert with an added 40g of mealworms. For your enclosure I think it’s great! Although i would look into getting more types of sprays, adding forage and other substrates like beech chips, aspen, coco chips, coco soil, ect!💗

@MilkyMoomin Seed mixes from Etsy aren’t suitable. The majority of them are homemade meaning they haven’t been lab tested which is dangerous. They are unbalanced and you need a lab to calculate micronutrient which that hasn’t been done

Grief doesn't have a time limit, nor does it ever go away - you just learn to live with it. Even though I've lost hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, degus, gerbils, cats, birds... I still remember them... And I miss them.
I recently got my Syrian girl. She was also from a pet shop. In a tiny little enclosure with another girl. Cuddled up under a little plastic hut. It’s soo rewarding to see them go into a big enclosure with all this new enrichment and watch them explore 🥹🥹 Poptart is beautiful!!

If you purchase a silent runner wheel you won’t even hear the little guy running! I have my enclosure in my bedroom and I hardly even hear it. The NiteAngel wheel is PERFECT. I hope this helps. ❤

I’m planning on getting a robo dwarf and a ikea detolf, also if you didn’t know a good way to get a hamster used to your scent, even on the first day, is grabbing some toilet paper, rubbing it on you, and putting it in the enclosure. It helps and they can used it for nesting! ❤️hope your hammies doing well!!
I lost my first hamster two months ago from the way you described coco he acted just like her and I went through the same thing I still cry every single time I think of him he was my baby and now I don’t know how to move on I wish I could have given him a bigger cage and deeper bedding but my parents wouldn’t let me I asked almost every day of his life so im going to give another hamster a great life because there are so few out there that get that I’m not going to get another hamster until my parents let me get a bigger cage so that it can have a great life

It is honestly a great set up! my hamster didn't use the dig boxes so i put the soft cork granules, aspen, and coco peat i think its called as a layer in a small section of his enclosure so he can still experience different textures and he now digs in it all the time

@KatelinRebecca poptart seems like she's such a sweetheart! My Pablo had two different homes before he came to me and both where in tiny cages so I don't think he knew what they where until removed the dig box. But now he loves them. The soft cork granule is his favorite I think
I love this cage setup!! Pop tart is so cute!! Since you have some heavy platforms that don’t look like they’d be rattled or knocked over, you could place a small water dish, just so pop tart has some water options incase she prefers it over the bottle. ❤❤❤❤
SO TRUE! I actually did include a water dish, I just forgot to show that haha I think she liked it but the dish I chose seemed to be too big. I may buy a smaller one in the future bc she seemed to like the dish a bit more than the bottle. 🤔

So sorry to hear about your loss but I can already tell you have provided such an amazing new home for your new baby! Subscribed purely for Poptart!! I rescued a 3 month old female Syrian as well and your process of research was so similar to mine - so happy that some other hamster is getting a loving home as well. We would LOVE Poptart updates hahaha
The relief I felt when you showed a preview of the setup was immense, I work at a PetSmart and I will steer people to buy their enclosures from other sources because nothing we carry is good for them. The large fish tanks are good too! I generally try to avoid things that make me reach in from above if I can. I'm not too sure what you meant by the "hamster person", unless you just meant their pet care associate. I don't know about petco, but at PetSmart we don't really know how old the hamsters are when we get them in - they don't tell us. I do know that all of the hamsters we receive are less than a year old and usually they haven't reached sexual maturity yet, to give a basis.

I don’t think it’s silly to grieve a lost animal especially a hamster. Lots of people have this misconception that hamsters and their owners can’t have a close connection like that. When I lose my babies pickle and peanut I’m gonna be devastated they’re my whole world 😔💓 just gotta try and give them the best life possible
Your hamsters are so blessed bc they are able to have you as their forever parent. I’m sure they are happy little babies and you do your best. I feel like thats all any hamster could ever ask for ❤️
I used to have a tiny cage for 2 hamsters until one of the hamsters started eating the other one so I had my brother grab the hamster that was being eaten with a thick glove so he didn’t get bit than I moved that one to a different cage but I used a fish tank for it and after that she was so sweet! 😊
I’m no expert but I definitely think the millet nips things by healthy select are pretty good. I’ve had hamsters in the past and currently rats and they both really like them, I haven’t seen any issues with them either. But I would recommend only giving it as a once in a while treat not to much because they do love them. Hope this helps! 💗
My brother got a dwarf hamster for his birthday yesterday from his friends and decided to give it to me because he didn’t have enough space in his room due to him having a Pac-Man frog, two tarantulas and a turtle. I’ve never had a dwarf hamster, what should I get him for his new home. I got a fish tank for him, he is very small in size. I got him a wheel, I want to get him two bowls for his food and water but not sure what else to buy him. Any recommendations?
Cages that I think are good are nightangle stackable cage (it is better to get two so you combine them ) paw-hut large hamster cage (most owners remove the levels) busitcate hamster cage large, ikea detolf (tutorials are on UA-cam ) 70 gallon aquarium or more ( no less than 50 gallon) , and a diy enclosure (tutorials on UA-cam also Your hammie is so cute
The petsmart near me houses hamsters 3-6 months old. That's when they get them. Maybe Poptart is around that age? You could always call back and see if someone finds out when they got their shipment of hamsters in. And what ages they are.

You got the right desicion to get a Syrian, they’re the friendliest and loyal to their owners I have a Syrian myself and they’re doing well since I got them and the best thing is they will live longer if they have proper care and happy!

Hey, I know how it is to lose a hamster I just lost mine may second 2024, I was heartbroken and still is heartbroken, but I love to think she is dancing in the fluffy clouds above me. but yes, I'm so sorry for your loss of your hammy, but at least now when Poptart passes your other hammy will have a friend to dance in the sky with c: I'm getting another hammy soon too though YAY.
i recomend u to try using a small bowel that ur hamster can drink from reason nr 1.easyer to drink. and reason nr.2 the tung of the hamster can get stuck in the bottel. But every thing else in the incubator is good

It's not silly at all to grieve your tiny friend! I've only had my girl for 5 months and I would be crushed if I lost her, she definitley has made my life a little brighter and she is the sweetest girl! Used to be scared just like your new baby, but now asks and DEMANDS to be taken🥰💓 What I mean is, they are just as meaningful as any other pet, and your grief is not silly at all, quite the opposite, I think is totally understandable💓
I'm so glad you did research before buying a hamster 🥹. A few things I'd like to say though, that food is unfortunately not very safe. Better options would be Getzoo, Rodipet, Bunny Nature 'Expert', Real Nature (Europe) are some, or Chubby Hamster Cheeks, Getzoo, Bunny Nature 'Expert', Robins Gourmet (USA/Canada. The cage should be more cluttered. Especially for a female syrian. They need 3+ different substrates (not including sand) to incurage digging, and 3+ textures. 5+ hides (not including a multichamber). And lastly make sure you have at least 8 inches of bedding!
The mullet snips are very good in the hamster diet. I know this because I have those and give them to my hamster once a week. Also, make sure that you only give her fruits and vegetables once a week. They also love baby puffs and peanuts😊

Little tip! Dont use water bottles they only give your hamsters a few drops of water, its always better to have the water in a bowl! And honestly I loveee ur setup, so glad someone did their researches:) and btw sorry for your loss❤️ Tell poptart I said hi;)

Robo’s would need just as much space, maybe more. Even though they are smaller, they run waaaaay more than any other breed so they need lots of space. Haha

she's probably around 6 or 8 weeks old, if I'm correct baby Syrians stay together until 6-8 weeks and it didn't look like she fought with the other hamster. Poptart is so cute btw! and great cage :D
So true! They seemed to have gotten along great when I was at the pet store tbh. They were cuddling and eating together! Not that I would EVER house them together but I did feel a bit bad about separating them. 😅
The bedding you’re using is good but a better one is definitely Kaytee Clean & Cozy!! Also make sure you compact the bedding so burrows don’t collapse on her. Also use platforms for your heavy items!! Your care is really good though!!
one of my hamsters died today. her name is Luna and shes a black long haired syrian hamster i only had her for 3 months and she was full of trouble but she never bit me i miss u Luna 💛💕😢

You did really great. Hamsters are usually sold from 3-4 weeks old. So could be anywhere between 3- 6 weeks old.

It is honestly a great set up! my hamster didn't use the dig boxes so i put the soft cork granules, aspen, and coco peat i think its called as a layer in a small section of his enclosure so he can still experience different textures and he now digs in it all the time

@KatelinRebecca poptart seems like she's such a sweetheart! My Pablo had two different homes before he came to me and both where in tiny cages so I don't think he knew what they where until removed the dig box. But now he loves them. The soft cork granule is his favorite I think
I love this cage setup!! Pop tart is so cute!! Since you have some heavy platforms that don’t look like they’d be rattled or knocked over, you could place a small water dish, just so pop tart has some water options incase she prefers it over the bottle. ❤❤❤❤
SO TRUE! I actually did include a water dish, I just forgot to show that haha I think she liked it but the dish I chose seemed to be too big. I may buy a smaller one in the future bc she seemed to like the dish a bit more than the bottle. 🤔

So sorry to hear about your loss but I can already tell you have provided such an amazing new home for your new baby! My new one is still getting used to his new home but I can wait to bond with him and become closer to my cute new baby!
Subscribed purely for Poptart!! I rescued a 3 month old female Syrian as well and your process of research was so similar to mine - so happy that some other hamster is getting a loving home as well. We would LOVE Poptart updates hahaha

The relief I felt when you showed a preview of the setup was immense, I work at a PetSmart and I will steer people to buy their enclosures from other sources because nothing we carry is good for them. The large fish tanks are good too! I generally try to avoid things that make me reach in from above if I can. I'm not too sure what you meant by the "hamster person", unless you just meant their pet care associate. I don't know about petco, but at PetSmart we don't really know how old the hamsters are when we get them in - they don't tell us. I do know that all of the hamsters we receive are less than a year old and usually they haven't reached sexual maturity yet, to give a basis.

I don’t think it’s silly to grieve a lost animal especially a hamster. Lots of people have this misconception that hamsters and their owners can’t have a close connection like that. When I lose my babies pickle and peanut I’m gonna be devastated they’re my whole world 😔💓 just gotta try and give them the best life possible
Your hamsters are so blessed bc they are able to have you as their forever parent. I’m sure they are happy little babies and you do your best. I feel like thats all any hamster could ever ask for ❤️

I used to have a tiny cage for 2 hamsters until one of the hamsters started eating the other one so I had my brother grab the hamster that was being eaten with a thick glove so he didn’t get bit than I moved that one to a different cage but I used a fish tank for it and after that she was so sweet! 😊

I’m no expert but I definitely think the millet nips things by healthy select are pretty good. I’ve had hamsters in the past and currently rats and they both really like them, I haven’t seen any issues with them either. But I would recommend only giving it as a once in a while treat not to much because they do love them. Hope this helps! 💗

make sure you pack down your bedding so it holds burrows and your cage is tall enough to add more bedding but otherwise it’s amazing 🤩
My brother got a dwarf hamster for his birthday yesterday from his friends and decided to give it to me because he didn’t have enough space in his room due to him having a Pac-Man frog, two tarantulas and a turtle. I’ve never had a dwarf hamster, what should I get him for his new home. I got a fish tank for him, he is very small in size. I got him a wheel, I want to get him two bowls for his food and water but not sure what else to buy him. Any recommendations?
Cages that I think are good are nightangle stackable cage (it is better to get two so you combine them ) paw-hut large hamster cage (most owners remove the levels) busitcate hamster cage large, ikea detolf (tutorials are on UA-cam ) 70 gallon aquarium or more ( no less than 50 gallon) , and a diy enclosure (tutorials on UA-cam also

The petsmart near me houses hamsters 3-6 months old. That's when they get them. Maybe Poptart is around that age?
You could always call back and see if someone finds out when they got their shipment of hamsters in. And what ages they are.

You got the right desicion to get a Syrian, they’re the friendliest and loyal to their owners I have a Syrian myself and they’re doing well since I got them and the best thing is they will live longer if they have proper care and happy!

Hey, I know how it is to lose a hamster I just lost mine may second 2024, I was heartbroken and still is heartbroken, but I love to think she is dancing in the fluffy clouds above me. but yes, I'm so sorry for your loss of your hammy, but at least now when Poptart passes your other hammy will have a friend to dance in the sky with c: I'm getting another hammy soon too though YAY.

i recomend u to try using a small bowel that ur hamster can drink from reason nr 1.easyer to drink. and reason nr.2 the tung of the hamster can get stuck in the bottel. But every thing else in the incubator is good

It's not silly at all to grieve your tiny friend! I've only had my girl for 5 months and I would be crushed if I lost her, she definitley has made my life a little brighter and she is the sweetest girl! Used to be scared just like your new baby, but now asks and DEMANDS to be taken🥰💓 What I mean is, they are just as meaningful as any other pet, and your grief is not silly at all, quite the opposite, I think is totally understandable💓
I'm so glad you did research before buying a hamster 🥹. A few things I'd like to say though, that food is unfortunately not very safe. Better options would be Getzoo, Rodipet, Bunny Nature 'Expert', Real Nature (Europe) are some, or Chubby Hamster Cheeks, Getzoo, Bunny Nature 'Expert', Robins Gourmet (USA/Canada. The cage should be more cluttered. Especially for a female syrian. They need 3+ different substrates (not including sand) to incurage digging, and 3+ textures. 5+ hides (not including a multichamber). And lastly make sure you have at least 8 inches of bedding!
The mullet snips are very good in the hamster diet. I know this because I have those and give them to my hamster once a week. Also, make sure that you only give her fruits and vegetables once a week. They also love baby puffs and peanuts😊

Robo’s would need just as much space, maybe more. Even though they are smaller, they run waaaaay more than any other breed so they need lots of space. Haha

she's probably around 6 or 8 weeks old, if I'm correct baby Syrians stay together until 6-8 weeks and it didn't look like she fought with the other hamster. Poptart is so cute btw! and great cage :D
So true! They seemed to have gotten along great when I was at the pet store tbh. They were cuddling and eating together! Not that I would EVER house them together but I did feel a bit bad about separating them. 😅
The bedding you’re using is good but a better one is definitely Kaytee Clean & Cozy!! Also make sure you compact the bedding so burrows don’t collapse on her. Also use platforms for your heavy items!! Your care is really good though!!
