THANK GOD I didn’t listen to him and barely wore it. The thing is, during the Covid 19 lockdowns my parents forced me to wear it more since the ortho started to get mad that I don’t wear it regularly. So I wore it a LOT at that time just because I wanted to finish with it. This my biggest regret. I started to have breathing problems and TMJ. This device should be illegal. Forward growth shouldn’t be stunted. It also made my neck chronically painful. God this is horrible. My “overbite” may be fixed on the paper but my airway is narrow and so is my maxilla. I hope we will get out of this. I’m currently looking for treatments to encourage growth since I’m still a teenager and have a bit of a growth left. Wish you the best. The metal retainers can last up to 10 years while the plastic ones clan last from 1-2 years. I do however have a deep bite but my main focus is on the upper teeth. Will it be a good choice to get only braces on upper teeth when I have a deep bite? And what will be the consequences of doing so?
I advise against wearing only 1 arch braces, ESPECIALLY if its a bite issue. We need braces on both the arches so that we can use rubber bands and wires to make sure we can correct your bite. I still would ask your orthodontist to see if this is possible in your case though!

My mom told me if I wear it a lot then it wouldn’t hurt anymore, but I wore it for 40 hrs (4 days) and it still hurt really bad. Also, I keep on bending it because of the way I sleep. So as you can see I need help..
You orthodontists have no ability to critically think about what it is you've been taught in dental school. It's quite shocking you are allowed to legally treat patients with this type of nonsense. You don't even understand correct facial development or airway function. They print you out of dental school by the thousands like a mold, and the entire time you never questioned the status quo. Your jaws are supposed to be in a forward position. That's the way nature designed you. You are not supposed to retract the jaws. What you believe to be an overjet is in actuality an underdeveloped mandible. You don't solve this problem be retracting the maxilla and squeezing off the individuals airway. You should be bringing the mandible jaw forward to meet the maxilla, open the airway, and allow the jaws to grow into it's normal forward position. Headgear shuts down forward growth, restricts airways, and forces the jaws to grow backwards into the airway and downward, elongating the face. Because the airway is restricted, the individual has to lean forward to open the airway to breath. This creates a forward head posture and will lead to lifelong mouth breathing and neck pain. Again, the jaws are supposed to be forward with plenty of room for the teeth and tongue. Retraction solves none of that. It only makes it worse. Don't make a small mouth smaller. This video should be removed for the incredibly incorrect information it contains. Never get headgear. If an orthodontist is telling you that you need it, get yourself a new orthodontist.
Ah, yes, orthodontics, the "science" of straightening teeth but ruining faces! There should not be any need to remove teeth, this merely pushes the face back and distorts it. Look at Princess Anne who was a pretty child until orthodontics ruined her face. Headgear, of course, makes things even worse because ot the forces involved!
I’m a year late to this video but I just thought of something, would you rather wear regular braces 6 months longer than your regular time or, wear headgear the whole time but your treatment is 6 months shorter hmmmm?
I'm currently 12 and I have headgear that uses my neck to stop the growth of my front teeth so my bottom teeth can ketchup because my wisdom teeth pushed into my 12-year-old molars on my bottom teeth which made my bottom 12-year-old molars go forwards at an angle and if my wisdom teeth continued to grow they would push into my back molar and eventually kill my back molars on my bottom teeth so I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed at the age of 12 and have to wear headgear (btw my top 12-year-old molars already grew in) Yea- braces suck only had em for a few days though so yea never know maybe I'll like em later.
Is it necessary to have extractions to fix an overbite? tho my overbite is not severe at all. Will it change the shape of my face? and is it true that if I'll have extractions my face will get sunk? What will be the consequences if ever I'll have extractions. I hope you'll answer my question or better yet I hope you'll make a video about this. Thank you
I don't think it's a good idea to combine your top teeth being to far forward with your lower teeth also being to far forward, if that's what you're suggesting.
@@blasesquivelmartinez8166 The problem discussed in that video seems to be with orthodontic headgear. I'm not doubting that it might cause trouble breathing for some people, but that's not what I was talking about. I was just questioning your solution to an overbite, being that you should just move the lower teeth forward as well. I just don't understand this. If the top teeth are to far forward you should deal with the top teeth rather than the bottom teeth that aren't even the problem. Your solution would just make it worse. It's like saying if half of the buttons on a remote don't work then just make sure the other half doesn't work either. Simply moving your upper teeth back isn't what might cause breathing problems, it's the headgear itself. So why is moving your lower teeth forward a good idea?
@@blasesquivelmartinez8166 I still don't understand why it's a good idea to move your lower front teeth forward. A normal overbite can cause long term jaw pain, tooth decay, and gum disease. An underbite can cause a lot of wear on your front teeth and can make them easier to chip. So not only would your solution cause a ton of overall damage to your mouth, It would be extremely difficult to chew food with both your lower and upper front teeth to far forward.
I have a overbite, and they say they're going to move my front teeth back, and my bottom teeth forward, is there a chance i would be getting headgear for this? Please respond ;e;

Great video! I had my appointment today, and i got stainless steel wires!! I waited for a little bit while they were doing something with the wires, i guess they have bent it.. also i got the "bigger" wire, i would first say it like that, but i know that they are actually rectangular wires from your videos!
jasmine Cadiz yeah it will. I had headgear and they would tighten it around one hole per month (on both sides). I wore mine enough that I overcorrected my bite and I got it off 3 months early ( I was supposed to have it for a year and a half). I hope this helps
Thank you for the great video. Can headgear be used in adults? Also is there a headgear to bring both upper and lower teeth backwards? I have an overbite/overjet. I think where my lower teeth meets the upper teeth, the lower teeth just pushes out the upper teetg more slanted. but I have a lot of spacing behind all my last molars. Traditional braces without headgear has pulled my molars forward instead of my front teeth backwards. Also, are these braces MRI compatible? Thank you!!
Please don't push your upper or lower teeth backwards, you will make your face more flatter and recessed, you would only want to bring something forward, in this case, your low jaw forward.

The first time I went to an orthodontist she said that I needed to wear headgear and get a tooth taken out. I really didn’t want to wear headgear or have any of my teeth taken out so I found another amazing orthodontist that said I didn’t need to do that stuff. I’m getting my braces off on Friday and I’m so excited!!
Nice! My orthodontist said I need to wear headgear 24 hours a day for two years. We went to another orthodontist for a second opinion and he said something similar, 24 hours a day for 18 months. It was too much work to switch so I guess I need it for 2 years.
Hi! Again here, I'm confused: how can a headgear be used to move a LOWER teeth forward -actually the lower JAW? Our ortho recommends, braces w/elastics and headgear(??) My daughter's upper teeth/jaw is totally fine.
Do you know why some dentist don’t separate into 2 phases for my 11.5 years old son with underbite? They just suggest wearing face mask or pull with elastics, then put braces on. But how can he have braces put on if not all adults teeth comes out yet? Also in 2.5 years when he’s done, he will be only 14 years old. Should I pick an orthodontist who still have phase 1 and phase 2 for him? That dentist said when all his adult teeth grows out, which is 13-14 years old, he can start phase 2. Please advise.
So I get braces in 20 days because I have a really bad underbite/cross bite. I don’t think I’ll need head gear but I might. Also any tips about braces I should know about??
is there a correct way to face your loops? i put the loops facing downwards and it hurt a lot, but when i put the loops facing up like a mountain, there was significantly less pain. When I googled it, there were mixed results.

My mom told me if I wear it a lot then it wouldn’t hurt anymore, but I wore it for 40 hrs (4 days) and it still hurt really bad. Also, I keep on bending it because of the way I sleep. So as you can see I need help..
Love your videos! You are so helpful
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that =]
Woah. I am getting braces next year and I asked a while back for him to do this video. He actually did. 😱😱😱😱😁😁😁😁
Sorry it took me so long to get to it!!
Try mewing instead.
Do you always need a head gear if you have an overbite
Not necessarily but sometimes it is the most advantageous . Really a case-by-case basis
Not necessarily but I need head gear,
Headgear was torture to me. I was in 8th grade and could only remove to eat. IT WAS TORTURE. But yes, it moved my teeth so fast.
I do not want this I think I’ll look stupid
I wear it, it’s not that bad. Do you need it
can we use head gear if we have cap or sort of fillings in front teeth?
Can the headgear be used to move backwards both the upper and the lower teeth at the same time?
I had a headgear as kid. My mom just made me sleep with it. I think I only used it maybe 2 or 3 years. It must’ve worked.
I used to wear headgear during my braces back in my 90's mine was on back of my neck
I’m just wondering. But why would I get turbos instead of headgear, because don’t turbos pull your teeth up?
I’m a year late to this video but I just thought of something, would you rather wear regular braces 6 months longer than your regular time or, wear headgear the whole time but your treatment is 6 months shorter hmmmm?
i would cry if i got headgear
Dr Greg, can you please do a video on flossing while having braces?
You know, I've been meaning to do this one and have just not got around to it. Im going to try and get it done before the end of this year! haha
Hi doc I’ve always wondered if you can get headgear with brackets and not moler/molar band’s
I'm currently 12 and I have headgear that uses my neck to stop the growth of my front teeth so my bottom teeth can ketchup because my wisdom teeth pushed into my 12-year-old molars on my bottom teeth which made my bottom 12-year-old molars go forwards at an angle and if my wisdom teeth continued to grow they would push into my back molar and eventually kill my back molars on my bottom teeth so I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed at the age of 12 and have to wear headgear (btw my top 12-year-old molars already grew in) Yea- braces suck only had em for a few days though so yea never know maybe I'll like em later.
omg please tell me how it went i have a neck strapped headgear too i barely got it and a lot of people say its bad how did it go for you?
Is it necessary to have extractions to fix an overbite? tho my overbite is not severe at all. Will it change the shape of my face? and is it true that if I'll have extractions my face will get sunk? What will be the consequences if ever I'll have extractions. I hope you'll answer my question or better yet I hope you'll make a video about this. Thank you
Yes extractions will sink in your face. Look into maxillary expanders and biobloc orthodontics. Also look into mewing and correct oral posture.
Impossible for me to tell online but I would suggest you bring this up with your orthodontist as he/she is the most familiar with your case!
why not instead to pull your lower teeth forward? , to avoid potential reduction of airflow

@@liamwebster6528 moving back the front teeth reduces the space for the tongue, so it will move backwards to the airway
Will using headgear lead to infections in long run?
I have a overbite, and they say they're going to move my front teeth back, and my bottom teeth forward, is there a chance i would be getting headgear for this?
Please respond ;e;

I believe in Karma👏🙌
Had high pull headgear for like 12-18 months (only during the nights) as a kid. Can't close your mouth while wearing it, I drooled through so many pillows 😂
I can relate too much to this😭
doctor what is the maximum age for headgear to work on overbites?
Great video! I had my appointment today, and i got stainless steel wires!! I waited for a little bit while they were doing something with the wires, i guess they have bent it.. also i got the "bigger" wire, i would first say it like that, but i know that they are actually rectangular wires from your videos!
Dannng! Look @ you! I bet they were impressed if you told them haha
Thank you for making a video on this, very helpful.
Of course! So glad that I was able to help out in your understanding =]
Ok so i need help:
If i make my head gear tighter then it should be, will it make the process faster?
It will be too painful. don't do ot
ua-cam.com/video/aSc451_dH44/v-deo.html
jasmine Cadiz yeah it will. I had headgear and they would tighten it around one hole per month (on both sides). I wore mine enough that I overcorrected my bite and I got it off 3 months early ( I was supposed to have it for a year and a half). I hope this helps
yeah ok ya out here wearing headgears💀
I really needed to know the correct medical name for what jimmy had on from Ed Edd & Eddy.
I barely wore mine and if I did, I ended up taking it off in my sleep not even knowing
I’m getting braces do I have to get a headgear 😭😭???
Don’t worry about it, headgear is seldom used anymore. I was unlucky, I had a very severe underbite so I needed headgear, but you probably don’t.
Carolina Pascia thank you ❤️❤️🦋
Isabelle Bazzi But feel good knowing that you probably don’t need it, I have it the worst. I have to wear it 24 hours a day for two years, other people on UA-cam I’ve seen only wear it at night for a few months.
God this is painful to put on and wear. Hope its easier in the future. Barely can eat
I didn’t have head gear but my mom did
Interesting!
Then you look like Willy Wonka as a kid.
What is the cost Of Headgear braces treatment?
I am from india,but there no facility🙂
Do you contour teeth after braces? If you do can you make a video explaining how it's done 😄
Yes I do! i will probably make a video on that once I start my new office
This video really helped me, thanks :)
Of course! I'm glad you enjoyed it! =] Thanks for watching
well f**k me, I have to wear this sh*t for 2 years!!

Had headgear for 7 years. This was almost 9 years ago. Finally learned there was difference between the straps. Had the one on the top of my head first and then ended with the one on my neck.
Did you really have headgear for 7 years!?
I feel left out. Not everyone had an overjet
so pretty much Chinese torture 😂
Is headgear used only in children or it can be used in adults too?
It can be use in adults to
I am so scared to get mine
You're going to do awesome! Let us know how it goes on our facebook group facebook.com/groups/thebracesclub !
@@DrGregAsatrian ok thank you for the video
I never see anyone with headgear anymore.
I thought it was only in the movies 😭😭
Because we stay inside
The first time I went to an orthodontist she said that I needed to wear headgear and get a tooth taken out.
I really didn’t want to wear headgear or have any of my teeth taken out so I found another amazing orthodontist that said I didn’t need to do that stuff.
I’m getting my braces off on Friday and I’m so excited!!
Nice! My orthodontist said I need to wear headgear 24 hours a day for two years. We went to another orthodontist for a second opinion and he said something similar, 24 hours a day for 18 months. It was too much work to switch so I guess I need it for 2 years.
Carolina Pascia you did the right thing! It’s always good to get another opinion 😁
Leo Kumar Even if the second opinion wasn’t what I wanted to hear haha

Hi! Again here, I'm confused: how can a headgear be used to move a LOWER teeth forward -actually the lower JAW? Our ortho recommends, braces w/elastics and headgear(??) My daughter's upper teeth/jaw is totally fine.
Do I need a head gear cz I have severe overbite, also expansion cz jaw is narrow and teeth are overcrowded?? Also my age is 24. Plz help😞.
Will you post information about reverse pull headgear? And are adults candidates for this? Thank you
but why is that good?
you pull the maxilla backwards
you should advence the lower jaw forward
Imagine getting head gear 😂
Lol this is me😭
This would suck
Im overbite/overjet and currently wearing braces. How come my ortho dentist did not recommend this?
Can headgear be used only for horizontal impacted canines only?
Does the head gear affect the brain or skull shape?? I don't know i read a comment saying this and i'm scared
2020 REALLY? 🤣🤣🤣 CRAZY
is there a correct way to face your loops? i put the loops facing downwards and it hurt a lot, but when i put the loops facing up like a mountain, there was significantly less pain. When I googled it, there were mixed results.
