I got super interested in compound bows about 30 mins ago. (That's how my brain works... I'll eat up this topic in the next 2 weeks and then go out and buy one). Came straight to UA-cam and searched for basics. You tutorial nailed it !!! Thanks a ton. Love and best regards from India.
This is an incredible explanation, it’s far better than any other video. I came here knowing little about a compound bow, and I now understand it a lot better
not an archer, but i'm working on a story with a few friends, one character has a bow, and i wanted to come up with a design that was still functional for said character. and this was a big help. definitely a clear and concise explanation. thank you!
15 minutes with zero wasted words. Thank you, very informative. I just bought my first bow (10 year old Martin Firecat) I don't know enough about it to say if it's good or not, but at least now I know a little more in general.
Great video. Super helpful. Finally getting into the sport. Bought my self a bow for my birthday. Very concise explanation and you answered the two major question I had. Thanks :)
This was really useful! I was just given a bow at a Interstate sale because the vendor really wanted to get rid of it. It's in really rough shape, but I may be able to fix it up to use and sell my current bow. This video really did give me some clearer insight into how compound bows work, as well as helped me grasp some understanding when watching more professional videos. Perfect explanation on the parts and perfect explanation on the measurements commonly talked about. Thank you for sharing this video!
Thankyou for this very informative video. As novice to compound bows, being able to talk through the set up & any issues thus video has helped me immensely!
I am not a big of hunting, but i love, mechanics, engineering, architecture, and love how small things can make something amazing. I could like build one of them compound bow, step by step.
MAJOR KUDOS for producing such a concise, clear, and well-produced video going over all of these basics. I really enjoyed it and in my early journey and deep-dive into compound bow archery I am far more knowledgable and understand the function and purpose of components now than I was 15 minutes ago. Bravo! and THANK YOU.
Awesome video. I bought my first compound bow yesterday (Elite Terrain) and this video is helpful to further understand the dependencies, functions, and action of this smooth shooter I have now.
I'll share this with my friends at the Archery club. Most of the people there don't dare to ask the compound shooters questions. Some the them, not to judge compound shooters in general, look down on archers who don't shoot compound bows.
I'd like to see an explanation on how the cams work. I understand the simplicity of the old round wheels, just a long string running around two pulleys. But the cams, they look similar but I don't quite understand the science behind them.
hey guys i appreciate all these videos because i've learned a lot of thing i didn't know but, what about making and some videos for recurve ( or maybe traditional ) bowhunting for example how to tune your bow etc...?
Trying to find out how the pulley system of a compound bow works to see if someone in a less modern setting(closer to medieval to Victorian Era setting) could pull off creating a reverse crossbow and compound bow and what type of effect it would have had in an era where gunpowder weapons were only just starting to develop.
Flawless explanation. You inspired many, I am one of them. Please mention how to reach you and tell the brand name and some estimated price ranges. I am novice or rookie but want to learn more that’s why my questions are basic. Thanks for your educational video. I am your subscriber now.
Justin, how do you feel about the rubber tube used to keep the peep sight straight? Mine has twisted on me a few times. Hasn't happened since I've been using the tube. My friends say I'm "old school", and "behind the times." I don't care. Works for me!
Im that younger guy that would walk into a shop and ask what all the trinkets are, so you saved somebody 30 minutes and a headache. This is a lot different than the classic stuff im use to. But i still have to ask about the cable guide/holder/the stick that holds them out of the way, seems like theres more than one style/setup. And how much can i modify a cheap $50 Barnett youth bow? The string is like plastic, and i hate it.
Alex - you're probably not going to be able to do much with that Barnett Youth bow. You're better off looking for a used adult bow that's i good shape and going from there. And yes, there are several styles of cable guards out there. They all do the same thing though - which is to hold the cables out of the way so you can shoot without interference.
I invented and patented a compound bow that does not have a cable guard. An arrow can be nocked like any other compound bow. You can view the MODIFIED CAM technology on UA-cam video "COMPOUND BOW NO CABLE GUARD"
Perfect! I watched a 15min video to finaly learn what the F@ck is the black cable which is attached to the bow string, right in the middle of my bow....and apparently, it was the only spec that was not described in the video!!!
I invented and patented a compound bow that DOES NOT REQUIRE A CABLE GUARD. An arrow is nocked the same way an arrow is nocked on any other compound bow. View You Tube video "COMPOUND BOW NO CABLE GUARD".
Just because it fires arrows...don't mean it's archery....compounds ( I won't even call them bows ) take zero skill to use and because of the extreme let off making it so your only holding 10 percent of the weight...you can hold it perfectly still ....and because it has sights it takes no skill to be accurate. Real bows take skill and years to develop anything approaching skill ...they have no sights therefore we do not aim nor do we hold the draw for more than the count of one...the archer must be in good condition in order to draw ,further he must be several times stronger than his bow in order to shoot it properly. Becoming an accomplished archer takes the dedication to practice seven to nine hours every single day and single minded in accomplishing his goals , it sickens me how compounds have flooded the market in order to cater to the immediate gratification...I want it now mentality, right up there with taco bell and McDonald's.....and yes they are very accurate and yield great results....but there's also alot you can't do with one that you can do with a good Turkish bow
😂 Maintaining Compund bow is pain in the arse, you will also likely to blame the equipment than yourself, I rather have Recurve bow or barebow so skill all the way! 💀💀 Bro need tuning

I did a double take, thinking I came here and commented this already.
Cameron Hanes....I could inhale this dude all day
we should be friends

Great intro for the beginners.

I plan on making my first hunting bow purchase soon, I found this to be very informative and helpful. Thank you!
Well done. I have been shooting for years but never really understood all the technical terms. Very helpful, thank you!

This is what I love about bow hunting you can never learn enough ... Thanks big dawg 💪
Great video. Your explanations were to the point and not overwhelming by getting into the weeds on some of the components. Thank you!

New to bows and I have an old one and you just seriously educated me!! I am no longer looking at this bow as a foreign object lol. Thank you so much!!
Awesome video. I bought my first compound bow yesterday (Elite Terrain) and this video is helpful to further understand the dependencies, functions, and action of this smooth shooter I have now.
This is the first video I watched about compound bows ever. Great video thanks for the information!
A true professional, thank you sir. Very well explained of the bow anatomy names, as well as reasons why for each piece, and the function of them. 👍
Thanks for this video. I am new to archery and this really helps to clear some things up for me.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. We've also got a full section on our website to help new hunters get started - www.bowhunting.com/bowhunt-101/
@@bowhuntordie thanks!

Great video! One of the best basic videos I have seen.
Thanks!
Great video, clear audio and visuals.
I'll share this with my friends at the Archery club.

Imagine showing this to a medieval archer 😂
@@ticklyburger They would probably be more impressed by our phone and UA-cam than the bow. 😂
Imagine showing them guns
Great video! Thanks for sharing! One of the best I have seen on this topic. Can’t wait for my VXR to be completed this weekend!
Thanks Michael! Enjoy your VXR, they sure are a great bow to shoot!
Very simple explanations. Thank you very much !
Thank you for an excellent tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
Do I need to touch the cables
I thought I loose the limb nut and then move the connection on the cam ?
Buying a compound bow for myself for Christmas!
Awesome video. Perfectly informative.
Awesome video. Thank you!
Thanks, Darren!
Thank You Dude. It was wery useful to me. Thank You.❤
Awesome video thank you
Thank you! Super helpful!!
I have a bear archery adapt 2. What's little black plastic nylon piping/string near the top of the axle of the bow?
great presentation, thanks
Came here bc my dnd character wants a compound bow lol, amazing video
Well presented!
GOOD JOB! ...well explained.
Thanks!

Your the man professor J and 28 more days until deer day BHOD BABY!!!!!
hey guys i appreciate all these videos because i've learned a lot of thing i didn't know but, what about making and some videos for recurve ( or maybe traditional ) bowhunting for example how to tune your bow etc...?
Good day, is there a mechanism that locks the cams in place so that you cannot pull the string?
not located on the bow no.
Excellent 👍👍👍
Very informative. Thanks@

Thanks! This bow is made by Mathews Archery.
great video thanks
THANKS REALLY HELPFUL. 👍👍
Great video but I wanted to see what drawing back on it does, how the 'wheel's spin etc.
Thanks bro
So those bows does not have a clicker?
Nice video! What string silencers do you run on that bow?
Justin has 2 Wishbone String dampeners from Pine Ridge Archery on his string.
what bow is this on your video??
This is a Mathews VXR
Archery is awesome, compound bows are nice and look fun to fire at target's
Thanks Great video!
Pretty good video!!!🇺🇸👍🏻
Thanks!
thanks for the info !
Thank you
Tha k you so much 👍🏽
Great job

Use a string loop then you will not need rubber that tears..
Old school but using a Compund bow 💀
Ty!
Forgot to mention tiller on the bow great job though
Can you still purchase that shirt anywhere?

Damn you know your stuff
Never seen a single video explaining the physics behind compound bows. Is there 1?
What do you need explained?
Not me watching this to design a compound bow drawing
Nxt time try to test it then we can see how it works
pain in the butt (restringing a compound bow) is why I shoot recurve. String in my pocket 45 seconds and it is on.
Soo the compound bow I have only has cables and cams
Perfect! I watched a 15min video to finaly learn what the F@ck is the black cable which is attached to the bow string, right in the middle of my bow....and apparently, it was the only spec that was not described in the video!!!

Everything about compound bows, except how they actually work..
Well-Done & yous-gots that-there PhD in bow.
Ohh see see
Genghis khan watch this from above on his horse
That looks like a pain. No wonder people still prefer recurve bows

“Archery is the practice of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning ‘bow’.”
Didn't know Valtteri Bottas was into Archery
compound bow ruined the idea of the archery ... It's no longer a real bow nor is it as powerful as a firearm ... It's just a distorted thing
The same way a Ferrari is no longer a real car…
Hmmm, I’ll be ordering my “distorted thing” in the new year. Choosing it over a rifle.
I cant believe any company ever though a single cam bow was a good idea 😂
Damping = reduce vibrations
Dampening = make wet
Can a bow be made with a thong?
Don't worry about brace height too much, my girlfriend says 3 inches is plenty 😏
Mathews risers is to long
Said no one ever. lol the longer the riser, the more stable the bow. Longer risers are a good thing bud. lol
