      Ye since Russia, China, The UK and france dont have Vetoes (or how ever you spell it) You aren't the UN you are a part of the UN. So is Norway aswell. My point was he said Democratic socialism doesnt work. But from my point of view it works pretty fucking well. I agree with Crowder on most and I am not a socialist or a democratic socialist myself but saying it never works is false. When I was in the gutter not being able to find a job the state helped me until I got one. Not much I lived on 50 bucks a week but it was enough for me to survive until I got one.. I dont call that a failed state. Especially when we have so much money in the "oil fund" to sustain us for two decades without more earnings.

      elektabuzz Besides getting invaded by Germany, and having a population of less than Colorado... and having a teeny tiny GDP when compared to the USA.... what has Norway done for the world?
      Also do you think that veto power has any sway over the USA? The USA is the single highest contributor to the UN and is the only nation that kept Russia at bay during the cold war. The USA is also the sole surviving superpower on Earth.

      We invented chemical fertilizer which saved millions off lives in the 3rd world. Aswell as revolutionized farming. Also having a small population doesnt mean the country is less sucess full if that was true China would be way more powerfull then America. I am not saying the U.S is bad dude all I said is norway aint bad either.

    • @trump6200
      @trump6200 7 років тому +25

      entertain7us14 socialism is the first stage of creating a communist economy and culture. First comes capitalism then the middle ground (socialism) then communism. In order for one political party who wants to reach the state of a communism economy it must start off with socialism. So yes, socialism isn't as bad as communism but that's only because it's the first step into having a communist economy.

    • @entertain7us148
      @entertain7us148 7 років тому +60

      Trump Except it's not. With that logic, you could argue conservative/traditional values are the first stage to Nazism.
      Parties don't automatically lead to more extreme versions of themselves. You're totally ignoring the importance of social policy. You can have an economically socialist nation (free education for all, free health care for all, a living wage that combats income inequality, tax cuts for the middle class and increased taxes on the rich, a strong middle class, protectionism, etc.) that still functions democratically and allows personal freedoms - that is, opposition is allowed, free speech and voting is a right, capitalism, drugs and guns are allowed with sensible regulations, and people are allowed to do whatever they want with their personal lives as long as they aren't hurting anyone else.
      You can't seriously argue that 10 years from now Norway will be the Soviet Union.

    • @trump6200
      @trump6200 7 років тому +6

      entertain7us14 again I'm saying it's the middle ground in between capitalism and communism. If you can keep it attainable then you will have have the socialist type of economy you are looking for, but things could get out of hand and a more communist mindset grows on people who live in a socialist culture. That is something I'm not willing to try as myself being a millennial, but I now lots would give it a go. The problem I have with it though is that it's almost like some sort of animal enclosure. If you keep feeding the animals then they wont learn to live off what they were genetically put on earth to do and wreak havoc on the people because the people are failing to keep them satisfied.

      Now the Government and all the people have all the money from the oil.

      Can you tell me the difference between
      working Private and for the Government?
      There is none!
      Look at your Fire department, The Police,
      The Post, The Army etc
      They are all socialistic.
      "Socialism is a political ideology that wants the means of production to be owned by a community, either through the public, state or cooperative.
      Supporters of socialism see increased public and or democratic involvement in society as a means of achieving what they see as justice and positive freedom.
      Socialism promotes the management of the economy, and is skeptical of private business interests and profit motives.
      Supporters of socialism, unlike supporters of capitalism and liberalism, have a negative view of free markets, as they consider them to make a distinction between rich and poor."

The illusion that companies benefit when consumers benefit is based on some perfect world where all companies are ethical. Companies benefit when they make a profit, not when consumers do. In most of those cases, misinforming the public helped turn a profit instead of benefitting the consumer.
      Capitalism can be good however. If we regulate the power of corporations. Corporatism, a product of capitalism, should be regulated. Our own democracy is just becoming an illusion now. I don't think Scandinavian governments are intentionally starving people, inflating the currency to where it's basically worthless, or forcing you to work the same wages as someone else for a more skill intensive job. In fact, on the scale of the most economically free nations, Germany, Norway, and Finland are in the "mostly free" category with the US, United Kingdom, and Canada. While this is a good beginning, we should all strive to be Switzerland, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong., which is the completely free category. Hong Kong in particular, has zero tariffs in place, and zero natural resources, but is still the most prosperous nations on the planet. According to heritage.org, they have a high-quality legal framework, which provides effective protection of property rights, and a strong support of the rule of law, and continues to be the cornerstone of strength in this dynamic city. Regulatory efficiency, and openness to global commerce is what sustained this city for a long period of time, also being coupled with the fact that this is China's most significant transit point to and from China.

      @@chrisholley6427 There are many reasons why we shouldn't think that what "works" for Denmark will work for the U.S. Population size, lifestyle choices affecting health, and the corruption of the U.S. government to name a few. But many of the policies being pushed by "democratic socialists" like Bernie Sanders conflict rather sharply with how Scandinavia does things. No minimum wage laws, they've school vouchers, they don't penalize the wealthy with high corporate tax rates, etc.
      In the U.S., we already know the free market is way better. Healthcare costs didn't skyrocket until the 60s when we essentially gave control of the healthcare industry over to government. And it's precisely in those industries that are *less* regulated where we see prices consistently going down.
      That being said, even recently, Trump has been able to lower prescription drug prices at historic rates by applying free market principles (namely, getting more drugs approved by the FDA).
      Finally, note that Bernie is called a communist for many reasons, chief among them being that he's willing to go further in taking power away from the people and giving it to government, than even the nations he points to. When do *you* guys plan on banning private health insurance? Because last I heard, you guys are only becoming more privatized.

      It would not necessarily become affordable through competitiveness. There are many examples of businesses out-competing their competences to the point of dominance, which leads to them feeling way too comfortable and again leading to higher prices and anti-consumer policies. You also get the added moral problem of companies trying to profit as much as they can from people's health issues, which itself poses many problems that without regulation could have serious consequences. And what happens when a healthcare company fails? Could there not be consequences for the customers of that business? The health of the population is such a basic good, and something which benefits the rest of society to such a high degree it should be of high priority and ensured.

      He cherry picks his arguments, and doesn't properly address anything, substituting facts with jokes and personal beliefs. He uses post office as government inefficiency, but conveniently ignores countless failed companies and corporations. He didn't address the fact, that it was already proven by 50s that invisible hand of the market leads to a defacto dictatorship of the rich, so his beliefs are just as out of touch with reality as communism. He doesn't address the fact, that every modern country lies somewhere on a spectrum between left and right. He can't even actually address government problems in Sweden, replacing a real investigation with taking some random negative news headline, and his "analysis" of Canada health care system consists of a tiny wiki quote, ignoring the rest of the article.
      All in all, this sort of video LOOKS like a proper argument in the eyes of those who already agree with him, but is actually largely empty bullshit for the rest.

    What is socialism?
    so·cial·ism
    noun
    a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
    synonyms: leftism, welfarism;
    policy or practice based on the political and economic theory of socialism.
    synonyms: leftism, welfarism;
    (in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.
    Notice how "democracy" isn't mentioned?
    Socialism is a flawed concept whether viewed as an economic system, a worldview, or in practical terms. Not only does socialism not work, it cannot work because of the following shortcomings:
    Replaces the family with the state as the central unit in society.
    Undermines the family by redistributing its wealth and indoctrinating its children in government schools.
    Allows legalized theft in the name of redistributing wealth.
    Encourages sloth instead of productivity.
    Rewards irresponsibility, laziness, and poor accountability.
    Encourages self-indulgence instead of self-reliance.
    Encourages finger pointing and shifting of responsibility to others.
    Replaces the self-discipline of delayed gratification with the need for instant gratification.
    Undermines the values that are the foundation of the traditional work ethic (i.e. thrift, diligence, self-reliance, self-discipline, responsibility, accountability, deferred gratification, and hard work) and replaces them with an entitlement mentality.
    Treats those who contribute to the betterment of society the same as those who do not, even when they are capable of doing so.
    Promotes a get-something-for-nothing mentality that undermines the moral character of the individual and society.
    Robs people of initiative, drive, and ambition.
    Undermines the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and competitiveness.
    Promotes totalitarianism, thereby undermining freedom and liberty.
    And before you even think about saying it, police, military, etc, are NOT socialist programs. There is no need to defend against the claim that police, firefighting, military, roads, etc. are socialist. Socialism is control of economic assets. The things liberals, in their desperate attempt to defend their socialist leanings, try to claim are socialist are not economic assets, and therefore do not fall under the definition of socialist programs. They are part of the basic infrastructure within which society as a whole, including the economy, operate.
    If you think socialism is so fucking awesome, take your happy ass to a socialist country. Try Greece or Venezuela, I hear socialism is doing all kinds of great things there....

      +Brian Buchanan BTW great moment, but my eyes cant take anymore

    • @combatfolk5643
      @combatfolk5643 8 років тому +14

      +Brian Buchanan You know why democracy isn't mentioned in the definition of socialism? Because it's an economic system and democracy has nothing to do with it. However under capitalism this basic separation doesn't exist due to the very nature of it as an uncontrollable, hungry system tending to eat whatever it happens to work with, being it in the economic sphere, the political sphere or the social one. Many people say that capitalism is the enhancement of the inevitable human greed therefore making it an untouchable economic system. However the survival of the fittest (capitalism) is not what our society needs. We've accepted medicines and chemotherapies, we attach people to machines to let them survive. Progress consists in a revolution against nature, and nature isn't always on the right side.
      The survival of the fittest is for creatures that are moved by instincts and the desire of surviving. If we are different from other animals it is because we are capable of going against nature and changing it to our needs.
      And progress itself comes from fraternity and causes equality.
      However it seems like the economy is going right opposite to this kind of evolution.
      The main principle of a capitalistic economy that heads against it is its need to have lucky people to become rich and unluckier ones to stay poor. What we in fact need to reject is a world where fortunes are made off of the poverty of others, a world that embraces a system that claims to award those who work, while it doesn't. The basement of our society, people who work 8 hours per day with a minimum salary, is getting cut off by the rich.
      And don't say they are 'lazy' or 'not smart' because we would need people to clear our streets, serve our food or work in our industries in any case.
      This process of slowly decreasing the income of the most consistent part of the society without decreasing the impact of it on the economy is leading to an high income inequality and the demolition of any hope the working class has ever had.
      But not only is capitalism killing the modern society under a social point of view. It is in fact slowly destroying all the three fundamental spheres of our society.
      Under capitalism we can think the economic sphere as a group of excellent predators so successful in catching the animal they must feed of.
      We've observed how the power has moved and is moving from the political sphere to the economical causing the falling of organized democracies, the shifting from an ideological interest to an economical one. We're seeing politicians being weaker than ever due to the power corporations have.
      But just like the perfect predators make the animal they eat go extinct causing the only remaining possibility to be cannibalism, the economic sphere started eating the political sphere to such an extent that it is now undermining itself.
      Naturally along with the rising of corporations we have the decreasing of the small enterprises, causing the increasing of imports, and, as it is commonly known, imports are toxic for the internal economy of a country. So aggregate demand is falling and the income inequality simultaneously makes the death and poverty peaks higher and the economic growth slower due to the increasing of wastes.
      Capitalism ultimately doesn't give economy a sane competition, it gives us an incentive to show our greed and a reason to destroy our planet.
      In fact capitalism cannot be persuaded to limit its growth any more than a human being can be persuaded to stop breathing. Every attempt to "green-capitalism" to make it ecological is doomed by the very nature of it as a system of endless growth.
      "When people ask you the question "how do you destroy humankind", the answer is: "kill democracy, kill people, kill economy, kill nature".
      Progress leads to communism, in the way that within centuries, decades if we are lucky, energy will be free (which technically already is), machines will work for us and money will no longer be needed, leaving communism as the only remaining possibility. However, I firmly believe that we have to opt for socialism as soon as possible in order to stop the attempts of capitalism to slow down and even halt this progress.
      Socialism is not the flattening of our expectations, it is the flattening of our opportunities.
      Let's examine those that have been socialist countries.
      South america: it is suffering from anti-marketism.
      Cuba: has the highest literacy ratio in the world, free healthcare, free higher education, 50% of the parliament composed by women, the first country to eliminate mother to child HIV transmission, participated to health missions in 158 countries, unemployment is less than 2.4%, lower child mortality than the US, created cures to hepatitis B and meningitis. Before they turned to be a stagist socialist country they were so poor they could not make it to be a state.
      China: Mao was an economic illiterate, because revisionism doesn't work, and the high poverty caused by this policy lead to the deaths of millions. However it has now one of the world leading economies.
      Scandinavia (democratic socialism): this happens to be the best region to start a business in, the happiest and the leading region in the human development index. It is now having problems due to the excessive and unplanned immigration.
      Russia: It is hard to define whether this was a state capitalist country or a stage 1 socialist country. But whatever. I'm assuming the URSS was a socialist country. Before the URSS even existed Russia's population was mainly composed by pleasants. After the october revolution it started an industrialization process that lead to the transformation of the URSS to become the world leading economy along with the USA. You could argue that people were poor in Russia. That's true. But the reason for that is a failed softening of the transition from capitalism to socialism. In fact if a capitalist economy country is poor but starting to develop, an unamortized shifting to a new economy will cause a regression. That's why a stagist theory has to be opted in order to have the rising of another economy that's not capitalism. Anyways people were way more rich after the October revolution than before.

South America is specifically suffering from anti-marketism and Greece is suffering from the enormous debt it had before socialist parties arisen.

    There is a reason why most historians vote Republican. It is because ideas brought to table by liberals are, in almost all cases, old ideas that have been proven not to work. I'm serious, the ideas given by new "revolutionary" politicians, are not new ideologies.
    Socialism has never worked in any sustainable form, at any point in history. Communism, though more stable, will inevitably become oppressive. Capitalism isn't made to be "fair", nor was it made to "perfect". It was meant to be sustainable, which it is.
    I find it mind boggling why millennials believe that they are all political geniuses, who are somehow capable of overturning hundreds of years of evidence proving that their ideas are incorrect.

      I have not sold my liberty to anyone. I have the right to do as I please. If I choose to own a car, and I have the money for it, I buy a car. I do not need any politicians approval to buy that car. Under the socialist plans, I would need to file in triplicate months before I even think of getting the car. Under AOC's plan, unless I am one of the political approved top 1%, there would be no chance of that happening.
      IF I want to buy a home and can get the loan for it, I can buy a house just about anywhere in America I want. Under the socialist plan, I would have no chance to own a home, since it would have to be built by the government, and controlled by the government to make sure that I did not use more than my political approved allotment of energy.
      If I want to get a job in another town, I just pack up and move and find what ever job I want, that I am qualified to do. Under the socialist plan, I would be assigned to a job based on what others decided was best for the community.
      I have not given up any rights, but the socialist are demanding that I give up all my rights and threaten my grandchildren's life if I do not. In law enforcement that is called Extortion.

      Darkness technically corrupt politicians in the early 1900’s sold us out to bankers by illegally delegating the money supply to the federal reserve. The reserve is a private banking system. Then they forced income tax and the IRS either down our throats or up our buts... you can pick

    • @roberthicks1612
      @roberthicks1612 5 років тому +7

      That has nothing to do with socialist trying to destroy the country by making everyone dependent on the government for every handout in the world. Then when the government is so far in debt we cant pay the interest, the countries that bought the debt, mainly china, could demand we give up all our land and resources to them. China did that to small countries by getting the corrupt politicians to put the country in so much debt it could not pay.
      Why would they want to stop doing something so successful. They do not need to fire a single shot to take over the world, only get corrupt leaders to sell out the country. That's why china owned media like CNN hates trump.

    • @brendanshroyer7696
      @brendanshroyer7696 6 років тому +10

      Liam Auleta, Democratic Socialism, or perhaps more accurately Social Democracy, is a combination of two things: an open, democratic government, and an economic policy based on mutual support and restriction of monopoly. Essentially, a better regulated version of what America has right now. The main difference is that a Social Democracy limits the potential disparity in control and resource distribution (eg. a CEO should not be payed 1,000 times more than an employee who works the same hours at the same level of effort.) and focuses on socialist programs like the fire department, the police department, health insurance, national parks, public roads, affordable education, etc. While many people compare Democratic Socialism and Communism, this comparison is inaccurate. Communism is an economic policy of total state control and all Communist nations thus far have been dictatorships. Democratic Socialism on the other hand is centered around democratic government, and can not only coexist with a capitalist economy, but even strengthen it by breaking up monopolies, promoting competition, and supporting workers who's paychecks go back into the economy.

    I live in Norway, and social democracy is that everyone has a certain amount of rights (which needs taxes ofc) so that most people get a fair start in life. This keeps our population intelligent. We have a capitalistic community, seeing that it's illegal to own a monopoly(except the state can, and it's chosen by the people), so the companies has to compete. Still the workers have rights(included in the rights I stated earlier) that keeps them from being exploited and they can live a least healthy and normal life

      +Johan Beck Yea, it's the same thing in Denmark. Everybody has state-provided rights, like free healthcare, roof over their head, and free education. But we also have rules in place, so you can't live on your education for the rest of your life, and there is a limit to how long you will get money from the state, if you're out of a job. It's about finding the balance.
      What I don't understand about american politics is, why there is only two parties. In Denmark we have 9 parties in our Parliament, and we have more, that didn't get enough votes to get in. This allows for more nuanced points of views in the debate, rather than "just" the yes/no black/white way of debating. The parties also almost always need to co-op with each other, giving broader deals, that will hold for a longer time.
