@@krusek4204 When historian's talk about the "Crusades" they are referring a number of separate crusades called in different points in history over a period of a couple hundred years. It's debated exactly which ones are considered official crusades or not, but right now there are 9.
The worst part is that some of these crusades are not even against Muslims. Crowder literally has no idea what he's talking about. He's just either totally ignorant, or intentionally lying.

Go back and read history. Italy and Spain were invaded by Islam, that's what sparked the crusades.

Christendom was still largely united in by the first Crusade and,yes the Eastern Church did frequently request the help of the West. Also the Patriarchate of Jerusalem doesn't technically come under either Rome or Constantinople.

So if there is the possibility of getting the information from someone that grew up in a romanian school system id rather ask them. Instead of assuming. Because some college professor wrote a book on it. I mean if there is one thing we have learned from the crowder videos the vast majority of college professors are over exaggerating idiots. Indeed Muslims did not follow the rules of war back then, when the ancient Christian city of Antioch was surrounded by an Islamic Mamluk army and cut off from the all but annihilated Byzantine Empire, the city surrendered to save lives and stop pointless bloodshed. They believed that the Mamluks had honor and would respect the terms of a surrender but when the city layed down their arms the Mamluks killed more than half the city's inhabitants, did horrible things to the people and sold the rest into slavery. The city was razed and abandoned. Today it is now only ruins, it had existed since the Roman Empire and was one of the most important cities in the Levant, and a bastion of christian civilization. We didn't go and do that to Mecca or Medina did we?

@Tee Pee The impetus of the first Crusade was really just the Byzantine emperor asking the Pope for assistance in reclaiming lands he had lost to the Islamic caliphates, including the Levant. Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem were generally unmolested when traveling to this shared holy city. The justification was made after the plans to retake land for the Byzantines.
To your credit, Muslim rulers destroyed many Christian holy sites within the city, which would be rebuilt after the First Crusade. However, it should be noted that retaking Jerusalem was a plan set up after the Byzantine emperor sent letters to the Pope; it was not thought up simply because of its religious import to Christendom.

This is an ABSURD misunderstanding of history and the context surrounding the crusades.
The Christian God is weak. The Islamic and possibly Jewish God, literally created the entire universe instantaneously, so quickly that its beyond any form of human measurement. The Christian god literally took 6 whole days to create the universe and had to rest on the 7th day. It is quite obvious that one God is all powerful, the other god is limited in power and scope. The all powerful God could literally wipe Jesus, Moses, every other prophet and the entire universe out instantaneously, so quickly that no human could even measure it. The Christian god would be incapable of even taking out Jesus alone, and Jesus himself according to Christianity, was God, yet was also capable of being hurt by regular humans with sticks and stones. So you have this clear difference in logic, belief, and ethics. You have one group of people who believe in an all powerful, omnipotent, God, a God that is worthy of worship. You have another group who makes a mockery of God, who believes God requires rest, food, sustenance, and needs 6 days to create a universe. It doesn't matter what religion you follow, which prophets you think are valid or invalid, which foods and behaviors you think are sinful or not. When you believe that a being who needs 6 days to create a universe, is worthy of worship and the title "God", all hope is lost and you are a danger to society.

In Turkey, in our history classes we study the whole Islamic empire and the Ottomans. Teachers do tell us that Turks were known as barbarians, wrecking cities everywhere they go. We are taught that the Crusades happened because Ottoman Empire was pushing too hard against the Byzantine Empire and they had to stop us from advancing. We learn about Ottomans' kindness against the citizens of the cities they conquered, but also taught about the torture of military officials to get information, or even sibling massacres to take over thrones. So yeah, at least in Turkey we are taught about both the good and the bad of our history.

They needed money to pay for boats, so Venice made them a deal - you sack the cities we tell you, so you dont have to pay. And all the crusaders were excommunicated after that by Pope.
And the siege itself happened because they were fighting for the throne of Byzantine. And crusaders thought that after that the new ruler of Byzantine will give them money and men to go for Egypt and the crusade itself. But no one kept that promise. So they captured the city in return for 50 years.

There's a RTS game called Stronghold Crusader, I started playing it when I was around 8 or 9 years old, which sparked my interest in the crusades. My gosh, it was not easy being an educated little kid on the matter vs adults who think they knew shit when they didn't. I'm glad videos like this keep popping up. This is especially nice for me to see since Crowder is Protestant, and the crusades are typically used by Protestants to try and prove how nasty and mean us Catholics are.

Sorry, I feel guilty about nothing when it comes to slavery and it's effects on modern day African-Americans. Why? Because I personally had nothing to do with it. Even if my relatives were slave owners, I still wouldn't feel any guilt because I wasn't alive back then.
