These trucks are way more realistic than some 85k truck
I just can't see how people would want to work out of a 85k truck. I'd be like bubble wrapping everything I put in the bed and shit , f that
Always owned at least 200k usually only 500$ tow anything
I hear a lot of people saying that and it's mostly because they can't afford it the racing the prices on pickups because pickup truck is a work truck
@@outdoorlifemaine6691 no pickups haul groceries. Work . Off-road. Drag. Scrap hauler. It's black white and grey
85k is a half ton gasser. 3/4 or 1 ton diesels are over 100k
You did many things right in this video. Camera, audio were good. The only thing that gives you a big minus is the negative comments on the Dodge. Sounds to me you wanted to plant seeds for failure no matter what the results were. I have had both trucks Dodge and Ford. I would suggest (since you are the reviewer) keeping personal feelings out of the picture and let the viewers watch. Neither one is great but overall I pick the Dodge. The reason? Looks, power, comfort and towing. The Ford was good too in its own ways.
So I owned both trucks and used them for a period of time to get a personal opinion. I got stranded, wallet assaulted, and trouble out of the dodge, where as the Ford, simply worked. I choose a Tundra any day over both these toilets, but Tundras cost big money, so for the cheap, I'd say it depends on what you are doing with it, as shown in the video. Thanks for the comment
@@GrumpyMonkeyGarage OK got to respect that. Question .........who are the two people that were with you on the video??
@@GrumpyMonkeyGaragereviewing clapped out trucks will never give you solid respectable results. I have an ‘05 and towed with no squat. Oh, maybe cause I actually maintain my truck.
@@GrumpyMonkeyGarage Honestly that 4.7L that Dodge made wasn't a very good motor. They produced quite a bit of power, but they just don't last unless they are babied. (often have overheating issues resulting in cracked blocks) The 5.2L and the 5.9L were very good motors. They just stopped producing the 5.9Ls because after 2003 they just couldn't pass emissions.
@@lieut.griffin6904 i have a 02 5.9 for 6 years and have put 5000 miles on it and i have only put about $2000 in to it yes it is a good truck 🙂
On the ford, looked like the trailer was putting too much weight on the hitch. If you had room to move the car back on the trailer a bit more I think that would have greatly improved the handling. I've towed quite a bit with my 97 F-150 extended cab and I found load placement to greatly impact stability.
Fords have heavier rear end only reason they don't break traction easy
Yes he had the car way to far up on the trailer.
@@rosslefave5877 where did you hear this?
@@forthefunofit5487as a chevy guy, ford makes the best rear end out of the big 3 overall
Also, as someone who saw their old man own a 2000 model 4.7 dodge, you bag on them wayy too much, they don't just magically die like you act... my adoptive father didn't change a major component for 400k miles on his 4.7... either of these 2 trucks can last 400k miles without abusing them, and yes, he towed with his, all the way up to a 86 ford hippievan e150 weighing probs 7000lbs.
i agree everytruck has problems its a part of life.
@@doublegrant6144 I just think he bagged on the Dodge way too much, damn thing did everything the Ford did, but better and he was still saying buy the ford... Not to mention half the early 2000s Ford's will literally blow the plugs out the cylinder heads and you will have to helicoil them lol
@@SleezyRaidz i agree, also can what about the 6.4 Powerstroke lmao. Only ford can make an engine only last 30k miles
All of the 4.7 rams I drove felt way underpowered. I did think the wiper issue was funny since I see ford's with that problem way more. ( not a manufacturer specific problem obviously)
I'd still buy the Dodge anydy, but I am biased. #teamDodge
I’m with you!
Chevy and dodge gang!
Too bad they are terrible for build quality
@@mattgray6436as if Ford is better quality lol
@@AA-eg4fpit really just depends on what year you get for any of the big three. I prefer obs Chevy's or 2nd gen dodges. Those Ford's are good, but I think they're incredibly ugly.

haven't commented on youtube in years, but these videos are awesome. I'm up in New england and I work in the film industry and I've been a freelance editor and all that sh****t or whatever before. So I appreciate the cinematic aspect of your videos without them being over produced.
Love these challenges keep em coming. This channel has potential to grow
I got lucky with my find but I found a 05 ram 128k miles 5.7 hemi 1500 everything in works amazing I put a shift kit in the transmission and a high flow oil pump in the motor I tow 10000 lbs all the time and it works great transmission works great no leaks all electronics work interior is in great condition it even came with a 6in fabtec lift I will say that occasionally when I go over a bad bump the wiper will come on for no reason I drove a 350 mile trip to Nebraska (maxed at 75mph on cruise control) on 1 tank of gas - great truck for 2000 bucks I think
Great fun, great content on comparing them!👍👍
Idk why the 4.7 Mopar gets so much hate...my uncles 06 has been super reliable with over 250k mi on it and my mom's 02 had 100k mi on it with no engine trouble when she sold it. If you actually change your oil and maintain it they're pretty good little engines.
If I didn’t know anything about cars I would think the 4.7 is POS accord to the internet lol. Don’t over heat it and it is a really reliable engine. Worked as mechanic for 12 years rarely had to fix the 4.7 for anything more then a water pump or broken exhaust manifold bolts. Few head jobs due to over heating. I like the 4.6 2v from ford but it has more issues then the 4.7 mopar
Entertaining video and I know you hate RAM. I grew up in Ford F150s and i bought Ford's up until 2015. Depending on the model year Ford I had, somtimes I spent more money keeping them running than the monthly payment. I bought a new ram 1500 in 2015 and still driving it. Replaced battery at year seven. Minus airbag recalls, not one single failure at 141000 miles. A truck will last longer just doing basic maintenance regardless of the brand.
Ram is the better truck all around. Both trucks have their issues. Ram is more reliable and tows better. You see old Rams on the road for a reason. Rarely see old Fords on the road.
I don't know where you live, but here in the south, Ford's are absolutely everywhere in various states and conditions. This generation of Ram is around often, but the 90s rams are all gone or most of them
@@GrumpyMonkeyGarageI'm in about the middle of NC and there are 90-2010 dodges everywhere and still decent amounts of ford's but not as many.
We have had several dodges and got to drive some ford's of friends and family and fords have always felt really cheep and break alot and yes the dodges still have their flaws but we have not had any electronic problems with any dodges.
You got it backwards did you not see the truck did not shut off when he took the key out and the dodge needs a new engine every 3 years 😂
Lol, just all of the way wrong.
As a current owner of a 99 4.6 Ford expedition and a previous owner of a 98 5.2 Dodge Ram. I'd easily choose the Ram for hauling and the Ford for driving. However I had an abusive relationship with the Dodge, and finally came to my senses with the Ford.
I must say this, Your comparison is lacking. I feel it would be fairly obvious that the Dodge pickup would tow better than a full size SUV. Not trying too be negative just an observation 🤘
@remingtonwells7286 the ford expedition shares the same frame and engine has the f150
@@GamerBoy-ye2op Yes it may share the same frame but an F150 has more leaf springs. and higher load capacity. Not really a fair comparison.
@@GamerBoy-ye2op And an F150 has multiple different engine options aswell lol. not just “the same”
I will say though that the Dodge 5.9 L Magnum V8 is a pretty reliable engine in my opinion. Not good on gas but lasts longer than today's junk
Absolutely, and in my 3rd gen dodge truck review that was one of my favorite engines!
The 12 valve was great but only the magnum 12v Cummins are Junk
i have a 02 5.9 its a great truck iv had for 5 years still going strong
Ive got a 97 ram with a 5.9 magnum more reliable than my 2012 subaru
@@rosslefave5877the 12v was Cummins.. the 5.9 magnum wasn’t a 12v engine.
I don't know where you can buy that dodge for $1500 today. I'm seeing that selling in the $4000-$6000 range. I been looking for a nice $10,000 4x4 truck for the last 3 years and haven't been able to find anything that I thought was close to being worth 10k.
Kinda shows you what level this guy is on. He’s running these clapped out trucks 😂.
@@oldrango883I agree my 500$ 98 ram V6 is much better
Yeah no doubt was thinking that too..... Let's go Brandon.....
These guys need more credit. videos are quality content u don’t see that in shorter amounts of subscriber counts videos !💪🏼💪🏼
I have a 2003 my uncle owned it for 20 years and I just bought it and I've done all the work on it so I knew everything still has original everything but spark plugs and coils it's how you take care of you vehicle is how it last and it still runs like a new truck
Man I always forget how big this gen of Ram were when they came out...my mom had an 02 Ram 1500 and it DWARFED my dad's 2000 Sierra. The RAM in this video also dwarfs the F150. Now this old Ram looks tiny compared to the newer trucks. Crazy how damn unnecessarily big light duty trucks have gotten over the years.
I had an 03 F150 that towed one of those 6x12 u hauls with when i moved loaded to the absolute brim and the whole package was very stable on the highway going 70-80. My biggest complaint about the experience would have been the brakes, but that is partially my fault as i put on the cheapest pads that i could find.
I had a 00 with one rear brake great fun driving in Detroit but it was the V6 and stick
Those F150's will tow anything you want, it goes back to how you load the trailer. He had that car way to far up on that trailer, if he had moved it back a foot-foot& a half it would have been a lot better. He practically had all the weight of the car on the truck & very little on the trailer.
My dad's freind got our chevy express and a enterprise out of a foot of snow
I would honestly take either one of them over any new pile of electronic junk.
I’ll at least say I’m glad to see that you guys got the better engine for the F-150. That 4.6 is so much better than the 5.4.
The 5.4 from that era was good. It's essentially the 4.6 but bigger. The 5.4 3v is the one that sucks.
I would say the 5.4 in that specific generation is the better engine and this challenge they’ve loaded the trailer wrong causing a bunch of tongue weight causing the steering to be unstable
good luck with the spark plugs!
@@themopar426 First gen was fine; properly torqued they'd stay put forever. It was the 3 and 4 valve heads from 2003-4 with small threads, then up to 2007 with the two piece plugs that had the most issues.
@@ivanluna7352not all 5.4 3v suck mine has over 250k still going strong the only problem with them was timming chain/cam phasers if you properly maintain them they don't have any issues and the ones that had that problem was first year 3vs including the 4.6 they both shared the same issues
I’d like to see all the full size pick ups in this test but you won’t find a Silverado or Tundra with those miles anywhere near those prices 😅
Silverado with 220k: $6,000
Tundra with 220k: $7,000
I just came across this video and I definitely had to subscribe to your channel. After hearing you referred to the Dodge as a giant piece of junk. I know your legit now. Cool videos!
I worked for a local school district for 35 years. Plowed snow for 30years. Went through 5 trucks four F 350's one GMC 3500. I have to say those Fords were awesome. They sat out in the winter and never failed to start never even in some Brutal winters. Raise that eight foot western no sag the plow just came up. Sit a skid of rock salt in the bed 49 50lb bags nothing did not make a difference in how the truck handled accelerated they were just good trucks. My favorite was a 1992 with a 460 automatic 4 10 axles loved it a true work truck. Pulled Tractors around the district pulled 13,000 pound band trailers all over with them all . The GMC was a 1997 350 auto not sure on the axles and while it was a Good truck my only complaint was the suspension was a little to soft. It didn't haul as good as the Fords and the front would sag when you raised the plow. People said we could crank up the torsion bars, but in my opinion when you buy a work truck it should be ready to work from the factory. Especially if you order it as we did tow and plow package.
Ford always been superior in tq even boats the Chevy might pass after a mile
Makes sense. This is anecdotal evidence of course, but most people I know that had the Chevys weren't fans of the independent front suspension they had. It's not a bad idea. Chevy trying to make their heavy duty trucks ride better. They just didn't build them heavy enough. I think they're better now on the newer ones, but late 90s early 2000s not so much. Gold's front end was just a solid axle and leaf springs. Right out of the 50s and 60s kind of thing. Rode horrible, but was tough as nails as you pointed out.
Awesome video, love the realism. Although those are 2 different generations of trucks. The challenge was catered to the dodge. Longer wheel base, larger truck in general. That ford had way too much tongue weight for the shorter wheelbase. I remember doing some towing in a 99 exactly like that one with my dad years ago and that thing never skipped a beat. That wasn’t exactly apples to apples comparison. I know the price you were trying to stay under is why but I’d revisit this challenge with quad cab to quad cab. Makes a world of difference
Team Ford all the way. Interior of that 98 makes me miss my 99 Expedition with the 5.4. Sold it still runnin strong with 230K on it.
I have one of those 4.2 v6 f150s with the manual and i have towed a full sized jaguar v12 on a trailer no problem has around 267k miles on it now
Love this Channel
You would be surprised what a f150 can do or any f series it’s impressive
Especially the new F-150, 3.5 Eco-boost. Damn near towing diesel numbers.
@@richyg3993I've got the 3.5 eb lariat with max tow package. I love my truck.
@@nateg08 nice! I have a 07 Cummins 5.9. 149k. Pulls like a train! But I want a newer EB. But I don’t want to sell my dodge…very tempted to, idk haha
@richyg3993 my dodge was a good truck but I gotta say I'm thoroughly impressed with that 3.5. It's a beast for a half ton truck.
@@nateg08 I never towed anything crazy with an EB. Just seeing the numbers on paper. Does it tow better than the older Cummins?
I know this is a YMMV but both 3rd gen Rams I've had were both solid. The most annoying thing with either was the older of the two had an issue with the vent on the tank getting iced in winter making fuel filling quite a chore. I bought the 04 needed a few parts over the 5 abusive years I had it. Rad wp ps pump u joints. I had to rebuild the front end when I got it. (Big surprise I know) I beat the guts outta that truck and it always started never broke down and it had 8 owners before I bought it. My 05 only ever needed end links and u joints. Got t-boned by a dump truck after owning it for 4 years. I'd be glad to own either one. Never had any "Dodge electrical problems" either 🤷
Love the commentary.
The 4.6 in those Ford's are indestructible. With regular maintenance that is...... Lol
Watched from Old Harbour Jamaica and it's the first time on your channel. Those Fords are very popular in Jamaica even thou the are old.
Lol my 06 Dakota with the 4.7 would drive while in park. It had so many electrical gremlins in its 3 year run with me
Always have been a big Ford fan but last time around couldn’t afford an F-150 with the equipment I would need so I bought a Ram (I still call them Dodge) the pulling of the thing is amazing. Like a 3/4 ton diesel in the early 2000’s but sadly it still has many of Dodge issues. Windows go down without being told. Needs a top end rebuild at 90k miles. I love it and also realize that it ain’t gonna be with me as long as my Ford and GMC trucks were.
I had a 2002 dodge 1500 with the 4.7L and manual trans. It was a awesome truck. Really miss it
Salvage yard owner here. My vote will be this Ford 100% of the time. I buy these on the scale, running trucks, with 300k+ miles all the time. Reason people scrap them is because those bodies rot out so badly.
The Dodge never drive in the yard. Towed in because their trans are junk.
What transmission's, differential gear ratio's and what was the leaf spring count on each truck? Those all have contributing factors to the towing capabilities of each truck.
Sorry, I have to disagree with your comments. My '04 Ram 1500 is my daily driver and is also used to tow our 24-foot camper (3k+ Lbs.) and I've had no bad electrical problems... Engine, trans and rear end are just fine... Had a slight over heating problem once, but that's because a radiator hose started leaking. I can't speak to the Ford, but my Dodge is a keeper
I'm a dodge/ram guy all the way. But dodge has always had terrible electronics. My mom had a 04 ram 2500 diesel and it was littered with electrical issues. My 94 ram 2500 has electrical issues, but it's older so no surprise. My dad's 2012 ram 2500 has electrical issues. My 17 ram 1500 is so far so good.
@@Texas12valve Sorry to hear about the problems... This is the 3rd Dodge Ram I've owned. 1989 W100, 1999 D100 and now this one. No electrical problems, but the 99 D100 had leaking freeze plugs which kept shorting out the starter. Technically an electrical problem I guess
@@ronruba9147 every brand has their problems. I'm still gonna buy rams
Finally a review I can afford to an extent 😂
My 07 Dodge has a 5.7. Absolutely been reliable. I did have a 97 f150 with a 4.2 that think got beat and still ran great
"You gotta put a new engine in every 3 years" MMMMM No, I own an 02 1500 SLT crew cab with the 4.7, 80k miles, same engine (4.7) and transmission (45RFE), and she gets ran HARD. Zero issues with the engine & transmission, basic maintenance. The only issue I have is that the dashboard is cracked to shit and the oil pressure switch randomly decides it nologer has oil pressure, it does, its an electrical thing.
From someone who has a 2005 SLT 4.7 ram I’ve only had to change the motor once and that’s because the neutral switch failed and I thought it was the motor. They aren’t that bad in reliability
4.7’s are good engines if you take care of them mainly clean oil and clean coolant and they’ll run a long time
@@brandonsvlog85334.7 is a solid motor
Mine has about 168k on it and never any major repairs other than what I have upgraded.
I just dropped another 4.7 in a 04 ram that I bought from its previous owner who had blown the engine but the engine I got had 93k on it and now it's probably got 100k and it feels like a brand new one. Ram trucks are reliable as long as you take care of them just like any other but I had a previous 4.7 ram I sold that was an 03 and I miss that thing all the time almost 300k on it and ran like a champ
I'll take the 98 V6 any day
I like your challenges. I have one 2002 dodge 1500 with 5.9 magnum with 125000 and a 2015 Ram power wagon with 6.4 hemi.40000 miles I love both of them .the power wagon gets better fuel economy.
I love my 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 just pulls like a dream. Someday I want a Cummins.....
I dont know much about the 4.7 But my 2003 5.9 magnum back in the day was at 294,000 miles on orginial motor, I never put a transmission in it since i bought it with 242,000 but im sure its had atleast one. The A/C kinda sucked but other than that it was an awesome and great running truck and looked so good.
Yea that exact dodge ram I pulled 6 of those cement barriers like on highways or used to block areas off.
Wish I could post a pic of it 🤣. It’s like 2k pounds each on a car trailer had that bitch on bump stops
2005 vs 1998 it makes a world of difference rack and pinion vs gear box. Good comparison but now swap the years 05 f150 and 98 dodge.
My buddy had that exact dodge but with the 5.7 hemi. That truck was bullet proof. He beat the shit out of it taking wood cutting in the mountains and pull a 8k pound toy haller every weekend. He towed that over 7000’ mountain passes about 10000 miles a year of towing for 10 years. Never died trans lived too.
We have a Hemi review on our channel you'll enjoy. Go check it out, thanks for the comment!
Body power control module under the hood (fuse box) can cause some of those gremlins. I had a dodge caliber that did the same thing. I replaced it and it was good.
TIPM TOTALLY INTEGRATED CONTROL MODULE.
Your trailer axles sit pretty far back, flip the car around and the truck will squat less, shouldn't sway with how far back your axles are.
The car is crushed tho
02-05 had the worst of the wiring problems. If you put a tipm on an 06-08 they arnt too bad. I had to replace the wiper motor and wiper transmission both on my 04 along with it going into limp mode all the time because the bell crank sensor (tps) was going out.
I don't really care for fords that much, but I'd rather have the Ford over anything that's got a Chrysler 4.7L in it. If the Dodge had a 5.9 or a 5.2L I'd rather have the Dodge.
The V6 is best
I always loved the 90s f150 especially the one in Team Knight Rider known as Attack Beast
I got a 2004 dodge ram 1500 and it's amazing! Except mine got a 5.7 hemi.
And to think I owned both at one time, I guess I should’ve made more content with them. My F150 has the 5.4 and my Ram had the 5.7
I'm happy with the older Chevys
My first truck was a 08 ram 4.7 had 350k and towed great
I have had 00 f150 and bought it with 98,000 miles and had it for ten years. So when I stopped driving it I’d gotten 310,000 miles. But when it comes to towing my 19 f150 it does way better than my old 00 ever did
I've had the same exact dodge for 15 years and all I've had to fix was the radio
16:21 Nice trailer lights.
A friend of mine has a 2019 dodge durango srt and the truck has had electrical issues since he first bought it
TIPM TOTALLY INTEGRATED CONTROL MODULE
Would the stability of the tow vehicle go to the lower profile of the 20 inch rims. Lower profile tires would mean less side wall flex under the load of the trailer.
Also the real test is to use both trucks all the time and see which one lasts longer
Neither.
I have a 1997 f150 single cab short bed. 4.6 lifted on 35s. 5 speed swapped. Pulled a loaded trailer 12 hours through the mountains and 12 hours back. Boiled the trans fluid once but it did pretty good.
11-12 MPG. brakes left something to be desired tho
Hahaha love the engine very three years in the ram. my ram is a 04 has the exact same motor has 305,000 miles on it with the original motor and trans lol. Always has started n no major issues. I’d trust that tuck to take me to hell n back
I have a 08 dodge 1500 5.7 with only 87,000 miles. Traded my 2004 Cadillac Seville 157,000 miles ( stupid north star engine) for it. Best trade ever
The most US thing I've seen today: 4 fricken "STOP" signs on a 4-way junction .... roundabouts would solve so much problems there.
I'm not much on making comments on youtube. BUT, when you start off a video comparison and stating one is a "giant piece of junk" how can you expect any viewer to respect your opinion when you are already reflecting a bias opinion? We all have brand preferences. We all have had different experiences from one brand to another. I will say my family, and I have four siblings, has had phenomenal success with Mopar brand products. BUT, many other people and families have not. Same goes for Ford and GM. Let me say I am not just commenting for the Dodge bashing either. If this was a GM vs. Ford I would be turned off by the beginning of this video as well. I have owned all of the Big Three and very much respect each one. Each one has made phenomenal strides and constantly keep rising to the occasion when their competitors best them. I shall end this comment with this, it's great we have channels such as this one comparing inexpensive trucks, such as these. I did watch the entire video and in my opinion the video was ended in a respectful manner, minus a couple of bias opinions which I respect an individual's opinion. Keep the videos coming. I subscribed and I will keep watching.
I got a 2003 f150 with a 2021 18 foot car trailer and it pulls just fine at highway speeds 70 75 mph with 296k miles but I don't push my cars up on the nose of the trailer to make it dangerous to pull
Should have used simular year trucks, the jellybean was toward end of production when third gen DOdge came out.
I have had a few dodges and have a 2016 Ram right now 5.7 and haven't had a problem with any of them and towed over 3,000 pounds with them from Louisiana to Houston Texas over 500 miles one way and had the 4.7, and the 5.2 in the other two and towing wise with the smaller engines I was still getting 18 mpg. Well over 200,000 miles with all three of them the one I have now has the 5.7 almost 300,000 miles on it and I still tow with it without any problems. I had ford's and the best ones I had one had the inline 300 6cyl and one with the 302 all the rest I had problems from day one and I had a lot of them.
Boy! It REALLY pained you to say the Dodge won! 😂
I have an 03 ram quad cab, manual 5 spd 4×4 right now theyre going for 6-7k in Alaska, more for the manual transmission because theyre rare nowadays. Of course mine needs a new 4.7 because the kid never checked the oil, drove it like he stole it and ran it dry at high rpm. Now of course im torn, do i bolt a hemi in? Or build a 4.7 with hellcat oil pump and raised compression or, do i plop a 318/ 340/ 360 in there with a carb and forget about all the sensors but the oil pressure, coolant temp etc . The dilemma is real! All will bolt in. Not sure but i think the 6.2 will bolt in as well. If i was rich id just buy a ram 3500 with the cummins deisel and manual shift to solve all my issues but alas thats not in the budget
The dodge if a 2002 like that one tested was offered with the old 5.9 pushrod motor just 02 before the Hemi came out. That engine would suck much more gas, and came with 4 speed trans, but still might be an even better tow rig.
Do you by any chance have the rims to that Pontiac?
Unfortunately no, they were for sale for 9 months, no one wanted them. So they got crushed with the car
I have a 96 k1500 it’s a beast
I have a 97 f150 with 277,000 miles and it’s hauls anything no problem, I’m not sure if it’s bc it has the 5.4 but I can floor it and still get up to speed no problem
Well I've had all 3 main brand trucks and in my opinion Dodge has been the best and most reliable for me. The Ford transmission was always breaking and the Chevy well Its probably easier to tell you what wasn't wrong with it 😂. I currently have a 04 Dodge 5.7 hemi and I love it much better truck then the other 2 from my experience
Me too. He rags on Ram as if Ford and GM aren’t even worse. Rams have been good to us. I see old Rams on the road all the time.
Yeah this guy really hates Dodge to the point it makes his videos lame. Honestly, after watching g a few of his videos he’s a shade tree mechanic and he’s running ragged out vehicles!
I keep telling people Brand bias/loyalty only benefits the manufacturer and hurts the customer. You go by the year, and what has been proven reliable. Each of the Brand's had their good years and there bad. If your brand bias or you have brand loyalty, your manufacturer doesn't have to be innovative they know you'll buy no matter what
You either got the most rare dodge ever made or are bs'n. Dodges of those years and even now are pure junk when rolled off the line. Where the gmc, Chevy of the same years are still on the road by the millions and most dodges are crushed already.
@@dylanowens3173exactly, father in law had an 02 Ram and went through 2 transmissions before selling it with 140k.
You get what you pay for. I bought a 2005 Ram 1500 for $9,000 and only to to do minor maintenance when I first purchased it. I used it for construction towed heavy metal and construction equipment with no issues. You bought the same truck for $2,000. The previous owner wanted to get rid the truck cheap because it was poorly maintained and costing them money. I still own my 2005 Ram and have had no issues. It’s all about preventative maintenance.
Our 2002 ram 1500 doesn’t have that many problems just dash falling apart.
Although the dodge may have a gremlin, I would prefer it over that ford any day of the week. The trucks are too far apart in age to be fair, but as a Ford technician I can tell you run from that ford truck. I have owned 3 of that gen ford. Nothing but issues.
That’s crazy I gets nothing of those problems
Where did u find either of those trucks for under 2k? Especially that ram. Where I live thats 7995.00 all day long 😅. But seriously
Seriously tho!
😂😂 he hated the dodge then had to be honest at the end and state it won. I can tell you from personal experience, my dad drove a 2001 Durango 4.7 2wd 3:55 axle ratio and my mom drove a 4.6L 2003 2wd ford explorer 3:73 axle ratio both we used to tow are 5000lb boat. Both did it well. I will say the Durango out performed the ford.
List of engine and drive train repairs needed to keep the 4.6L explorer going. Timing guides wore out at 150k miles, spark plug blow out, intake coolant cross over burst 130k, oil filter adapter leak at 120k miles, transmission failure at 165k miles. Vehicle still runs great today at 199k miles.
Durango, engine repairs exhaust manifold bolts broke 135k miles. Transmission was going in an out of lock up at 65-80mph, found faulty TPS sensor at 175k miles. Cam positions sensor at 185k miles. Durango runs great has 187k miles on it.
Both have received similar maintenance and care.
“Old ford you can do no wrong” Got to love the subtle at which he talks about the faults the ford has on the tow test, “ it’s got some of the common ford electrical problems” this is what it is like working in a shop with brand loyal techs. Both vehicles could have the same problems one is labeled a POS And the other is just old and to be expected. 😂🤣
I was mechanic for over 10 years and could get both of these trucks running tip top again. I personally think the dodge is better truck. Hell read the edmunds 2004-2005 used truck reviews on the dodge and the consumer rates it 4.7 start out of 5.
Please do the Titan vs Silverado
I didn't get a $2k truck , but in 2023 I got a $3500 gmc 2005 2500 4x4 short bed ex-cab 6.0l 189k miles with plow in Colorado. I had a 2005 gmc Yukon xl already and think that generation of truck is the best of all brands even over toyota. And definitely beat the dodge and ford of same year generations. Where I am in rural Colorado almost every truck big suv still on the road are 1999-2006 Chevy , gmc. There are very rarely dodges fords years 1999-2010, they just fall apart at high altitude work loads, especially the dodges.
Those Triton motors in the Ford's hadvspark plug and head gasket issues. I've owned trucks from the big 3, they've all had some issues but overall my Dodges have done more with less than the Ford's and GM. Always interesting to see the comments and they diehard fans.
"20" rims. Theres no getting around that"
Exactly. Thats stuff that non enthusiast or auto inclined peopl dont think about and regret. I mean, you can find used sets for way cheaper than new, but the people that dont take it into consideration dont think about that or know what to look for or to see if the tires are worth buying or for how much. So many people that ask me for car advice insist on buying new for 5x the price when i find their sizes in matching pairs or sets with 75% left for 20% of what they pay for new. Idk why people ask me for advice if they wont listen to me.
You should look into getting a Nissan Frontier and a Ford ranger to compare
Where do you find an 05 ram 1500 for 2k though?
I agree, they are both junk, but I would still take the ford anyday. I had a 98 f150 4.6, sold it with 285k miles, still had the original engine/trans/rear end. Still ran and drove fine. No dodge has ever made it to 285 without a few trans and atleast one engine lol
I have a second gen dodge with 296k miles with the original transmission engine axels etc, and even fuel pump!
They are great trucks.
My dodge 1500 has 234k original everything best truck I've owned. Had I newer Ford it needed a new timing chain at 42k miles. 4x4 stopped working at 50k it was Junk and all the rattles on the inside.
If I bought a old truck like that, i would end up paint correcting and ceramic coating it. 😂😂 even though the whole point is it’s a beater truck.
Holy shit that was the DTO I grew up right down the road!!
Not all dodge trucks are bad. I have a buddy of mine with a forest green 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab, and it's still on it's original OEM engine, transmission, and such. only thing he's really had to replace was the battery, and the oil (because it's obvious those need to be replaced from time to time), but it runs fine, doesn't have electrical issues, and well, if I'm gonna be honest, it's one of the best cheap old trucks I've seen in a long time.
A hellwig stabilizer bar on the back of that f150 since it doesn't have one would have made a world of difference in handling and a cheap easy mod the truck should have dad
2nd gen ram would have been a more fun comparison, considering they're closer in age. I'm not a fan of brand bashing, but to be fair, 3rd gen rams weren't the greatest, the only exception being the 02/03 with the 5.9 magnum (as far as gassers are concerned, imho).
I am certainly all for Ford over here, I love ford and they last forever, but I did in fact buy that same dodge since it was a cheap. I got a 2002 ram 1500 4.7 and a 5 speed, and I’ll tell you I absolutely loved that truck and still have it until I can sell it to buy an f250. At first I was not a huge fan of the 4.7, as it has 3 huge issues. But, after seeing one of my friends with a 4.7 in their grand Cherokee do 260k miles of absolute abuse, I got interested. And sure enough if you take care of the 4.7 it will last even if you beat it. Unfortunately it lacked power so I am going to sell it. But all in all actually really enjoyed the truck.
