I am a Graduate Gemologist and that yarn you showed us looks just like a gemstone called Ametrine, it is half Amethyst and half Citrine so you should call it Ametrine.
I love how excited you got when your hummingbird friend appeared! ❤ Thanks for all the great info. And thanks for talking about needing to take a break. We need to normalize that. It's been a rough couple of years and folks really need to make self care more of a priority.
This is such a helpful topic. I have hand cards that were given to me by a fiber guild friend, who was given the cards by an elderly guild member when my friend started to spin. Gratitude and love to all of you pros who help out the noobs by passing on your knowledge and tools.
I'm so happy to see you back. You need to always make sure that you take care of yourself first and foremost. The strength you have to share this with us will give others the thought to step back and consider how they are doing. I am looking forward to your next visit, I learn so much from you. Take care.
I love your videos, you are a refreshing, honest and a true person. Keep being you, you are wonderful. I am new to spinning and will more than likely dive into the blending/carding rabbit hole. Your videos are truly a help. Thank you !!!
I did the same as you with hobby lobby all gone all at once and I am 25 minutes from us as well and yes can't get there very often can't afford to either. We just took in a stray kitty we call her Mrs Pickles your yarn reminds me of her
End-view comment: you've been missed! I'd much rather miss you for a few weeks and have you return rejuvenated than have you go away and shut down the channel! Thank you again for an informative video. I'm rethinking getting a drum carder now. I'm thinking fine combs might be the way to go!
It’s none of our business why you took a break don’t worry about, we’re just glad you are good and back. you are like a best friend we enjoy getting together with. I do the cut and run when I’m overly stressed as well. Vacations from work I called an attitude adjustment ;). ohh the lavender in the braid is so pretty, you could call it lavender fields ;). I have a pair of hand cards that I haven’t used yet and a blending board which I made from a tutorial on youtube, and a drum carder that I’ve just been able to start using. Amazing that there are so many ways to prep fiber!!
I love every moment of your outtakes!! I'm glad you took a break and I'm glad you are back. This video is so fun to see all the things with their strengths and weaknesses laid out, it makes it easy to get a feel for what is best for our needs. Thanks!!
Good to see you are back. I hope your break did you well. As for the braid, the name ‘Spring Halloween’ popped up, because of the orange and purple, but it is a lot brighter than fall.
I look forward to every one of your videos but I'm sure that I feel the same as others when I say you do what you gotta do to take care of yourself! We'll be here to cheer you on when you come back ❤
Oooooo, I would love to see more batt making videos! Ive watched many of your super early batt videos over and over! It love when you talk us through your processs and how/why you make decisions about what you're doing.
Great summary! Love that Donkey blooper, hahaha! I'm glad you mentioned that your Strauch only holds about 3 ounces. I have an old single wide Fricke that seems happiest with just about an ounce on it. Sometimes I feel crazy that my batts are so small, but knowing that about your Strauch makes me feel more normal. I'm so happy to see you back, and I'm so glad that you're taking care of yourself
“I can’t quit you….” Which works out well for the tribe, ‘cause we won’t quit you…… HUMMINGBIRD! those birds are so fine. I went to pick blackberries out the back door and found an angry mama bird (no ID, sorry.. large fast brown bird) squawking at me for the efforts. (and her food source so I backed away…) Thank you for the rundown on tools and the goods and bads and best practices for each. Very concise.
When I first started I was too cheap to even buy hand cards. I bought 2 dog slickers for 8 bucks a piece and worked like a charm lol. Took forever but did the trick. I've since upgraded to a drum carder and ooooh what magic😆
I live in Colorado and the roving with the purple, orange and taupe reminds of summertime hikes in the mountains with wildflowers blooming, like Columbines or Iris, and so many more. Thinking of those name but also love the name Lydia suggested, Ametrine. I grew up a rock hound !
I have went down rabbit holes few years ago. I always try to find good deal on tools I have found Susan’s fiber shop has better prices on tools. All you have to ask She will have it. Been buying for over 6 years
Such a great treat to look at my phone and see you posted a new video --- I appreciate your sharing your fiber experiences. I am currently dyeing a lb of Cheviot wool in my oven with Easter egg dye tablets --🤞-- hope we are not having baked wool for dinner!! I have also been enjoying Spring and taken my wheel outside on the porch to finally spin the last two braids of dyed BFL/Silk I purchased from you. So very happy days! I have been very busy lately with tennis and not been able to watch lives etc. but still thinking about and appreciating all you share!!! Be good to yourself and keep your creative juices flowing.
Drew a blank on names for braids, 🤔 thank you for covering all the different tools. I just bought a native costal fleece. So, I will be using some of those tools after washing. We have green colored hummingbirds!
Braid name “Fairy Floss”. It’s what we call cotton candy, which someone else suggested, IDK if you’d prefer a name that sounds a bit more unusual over there, and also floss being a fibre and yarn related term 🤷♀️
You were only wrong on one thing, YOU deserve it too! But I love seeing all your tools 🤩 I have seen you with a few different drum carders, to see what you have ended up with is nice to see. I am still I. Search of a standard manual one for myself but will be saving up for a new one that will be right for me in the future 😊
I always love the bloopers. Currently I’m working on lots of homework and a few projects. I’m still knitting the body of my Rosenrot Tee and I just cast on a pair of socks.
We are super new and started using our dog brush which is nearly the same as that first flicker brush. I told my girls I didn’t know if this was the right way but it is making quick work of getting those short cuts and flecks out! I was a little nervous that I was somehow wrecking it. I’m so glad I saw this video 😅
I missed that in the live, but I sensed it, perhaps because I have that stuff, too. Spoons. We only have so many spoons at a given time. Totally with it.
If you’re looking for a blending board but are trying to save a bit of money look into factory seconds they usually have some sort of “blemish” and can be found at about half the cost
Sometimes the cheapest tool does the best job. I just got a Jacob 1st shear fleece with 5kg to process. The fleece is gorgeous but full of straw and dandruff. Hand cards just mash it in. Combs didn’t get it all out. Drum carder couldn’t cope on it’s own. The cheap dog brush/flicker like you said flicks the lot out ready for the drum carder it’s just a bit time consuming and rough on my thumbs.
I don't know what to call that one either lol. No HL sale for this girl. Closest one is 65 miles away for me. Still think it's cool you dyed for your mom. Great reasons to do the sock competitions is all those great sock patterns. I love flicking locks. I have Valkyrie fine combs and always wondered if the extra fines would be better. I made my own stand. I have 72's and 120's but the 120's are wide like your carders. I like making roving off my cards. Breaks are good. I never know when I need one either til it's on my doorstep lol. By the way, the apple picking braid totally looks like a bushel of apples :)
Love the review of the different tools! I’m glad you’ve learned to take a break as opposed to cut and quit as we all love the time you spend making these videos and the lives on Sundays. I just wish I could join in on those lives more often…. As for what I’m working on…. I have a summer sweater I’m knitting for my daughter that lives in AZ and always a pair of socks on the needles. Then there’s all those UFOs that are lurking in the cupboard…. As for spinning, I’m finishing the Jacob fleeces that a friend gave me. I had 1 fleece separated by color (black and white) and 2 additional fleeces blended to a nice gray. Just finishing spinning the white now and plan to use the gray skeins to knit a couple Christopher bears with the black and white skeins for the pants and sweater on the them. I’m gifting one of the bears to my friend that keeps gifting me the fleece….
Thank you for this! All I have right now is hand cards, but I would like to get some combs. My coworker is in the process of building a drum carder, but we'll have to wait and see.
Lovely to see you and I enjoyed this video a lot…thank you for making it. I have an old second hand Ashford drum carder (manual) and I keep wondering about a blending board …but I keep thinking, can I justify it 🤷🏼♀️ Can you do stuff in it that you can’t do on the drum carder..? I guess it’s be easier to store and get out etc… Would love opinions please…thank you.
Thank you for the rundown on the why of fiber tools. Why did you get 90 tpi on your classic carder rather than the standard 72? I’m wondering if I should do the same on the one I have ordered?
I have of all of these tools, I just need to use them more. My combs are single pitch, I need to save for some double pitch. Where do you find used fiber prep tools?
I am a Graduate Gemologist and that yarn you showed us looks just like a gemstone called Ametrine, it is half Amethyst and half Citrine so you should call it Ametrine.
Oh my gosh….. the opening 😂😂😂. I am so happy your hummingbird is back!
Name the new colorway "John loves it" lol. Thanks for going over all the prep tools with us!
As you left the room, an ad saying “the man with the troublesome hemorrhoid enters the room” started to play. Super funny!
I love how excited you got when your hummingbird friend appeared! ❤
Thanks for all the great info.
And thanks for talking about needing to take a break. We need to normalize that. It's been a rough couple of years and folks really need to make self care more of a priority.
I’ve watched all of your videos on tools. And I will continue to watch every video you put out on tools. I learn something new every time!!!
Lavender sunset

You are so kind!! Keep being just who you are!
I'm liking the Fairy Lanterns name that someone else suggested. My twist on the name would be Fairy Lanterns at Twilight.
That was great information for a new spinner just starting out such as myself! Thank you! How about Spring Meadow?
Good to see you are back. I hope your break did you well. As for the braid, the name ‘Spring Halloween’ popped up, because of the orange and purple, but it is a lot brighter than fall.
That was fun! I’m intrigued by the Classic Carder…even though I have an electric one and don’t need another. 🙊
Trish, you are simply the best! You always make me feel like can make beautiful yarn and soin beautiful yarn. ❤
I'm glad you were able to take a break. I wish I could get my family to understand I need one from time to time.
I look forward to every one of your videos but I'm sure that I feel the same as others when I say you do what you gotta do to take care of yourself! We'll be here to cheer you on when you come back ❤
Thank you for all of the knowledge that you pass along to us.
Oooooo, I would love to see more batt making videos! Ive watched many of your super early batt videos over and over! It love when you talk us through your processs and how/why you make decisions about what you're doing.
Me too!!
As you held up the fibre ring……I saw. EASTER EGG HUNT…..love your podcasts

Braid names. “Those meddling kids” or “Velma & Daphne”
Love these ones too!!!

How appropriate!!! I am prepping some fiber as I watch. 😋
So, so happy to see you back at. You were missed!
Such a cool video, very useful and really interesting. Thank you!
Also, I loved seeing you so happy about the hummingbird. ♥️
You are a wonderful role model for self care. I love your videos!

Just finished taking my drum carder to pieces as it needed a good clean. Working so much better.
You were only wrong on one thing, YOU deserve it too!

I’m really fascinated by all of these tools. The video was informative and answered a lot of questions for me.
So nice to see you back! Great video!! ❤
I can't wait until I have a craft room as great as yours.
This was great to get to know more information on each tool.
Name it "Popsicle Birthday Cake". Love it.
Thanks for putting all this info in one video. I'm sure I will be referring back to it as I am able to get new tools.
Awesome coverage of prep tools. I used a dog brush for a year when I started. Pretty funny but it worked. You do what you can do!!
That fabulous colourway does give me Halloween vibes and we are about Halfway to Halloween
I have 2 cards, I’ve never tried a flicker or a blending board. I love the idea of the drum carder!
I love that colour way such a great purple. Thanks for sharing your tools and thoughts on them.
Oh and I did my first long draw...usually do short forward worsted....then I got a drum carder..you go girl keep telling
Sometimes the cheapest tool does the best job. I just got a Jacob 1st shear fleece with 5kg to process. The fleece is gorgeous but full of straw and dandruff. Hand cards just mash it in. The roving reminded me of a bowl of fruit sorbets, beautiful xx

Glad you took care of yourself!
Thanks for the usual information! I really love your videos.😊
Lovely new yarn you made🙂
I like the flicker, I like hand cards, I love having a drum carder, never tried a blending board, and the combs scare me. 😅 I don't need those!

Thank you for this! All I have right now is hand cards, but I would like to get some combs. My coworker is in the process of building a drum carder, but we'll have to wait and see.
Love this! I so need this I have a few products!
Suggestion for your color way. When I saw it, it reminded me of Fall and the light purple reminded me of cotton candy. How about Cotton Candy Autumn?
My sister bought me those same hand cards.
Have you ever used a wool picker? What are your thoughts on those? Also, glad your break went well.
Thank you so much
The braid looks like lavender and peach so why not Scented candle! Love your videos 🙂
we all need a break from time to time
Also, name for the fiber dye: viola
Lovely to see you and I enjoyed this video a lot…thank you for making it.
I have an old second hand Ashford drum carder (manual) and I keep wondering about a blending board …but I keep thinking, can I justify it 🤷🏼♀️ Can you do stuff in it that you can’t do on the drum carder..? I guess it’s be easier to store and get out etc… Would love opinions please…thank you.
Name suggestion: Oh my gourd 😊
What about "Headless Horseman"?
Thank you for the rundown on the why of fiber tools. Why did you get 90 tpi on your classic carder rather than the standard 72? I’m wondering if I should do the same on the one I have ordered?
name: crocus
Hebridean Sunset
I have of all of these tools, I just need to use them more. My combs are single pitch, I need to save for some double pitch. Where do you find used fiber prep tools?
Lilac's and marigold's for the roving?
Pumpkin Sky
At what fineness would you say one Has to switch to the fine combs?
Cotton candy!!!!
As soon as I saw that braid, I thought Cheshire cat for Alice in Wonderland
I cant find any of the Classic Carders in 90tpi😭
