Why would you promote vaseline as lubricant? It dries and gunks up over time and can be very hard to clean. And cleaning a plastic part with soap and water is fine but this is permanently attached to the wood, so would damage the wood by swelling it up. Use silicone grease/paste or spray to lubricate - it doesn't dry up and you hardly ever need to replace it. If need be, simply wipe it off and apply fresh layer.
Thank you for your comment, however, the Vaseline we use has been the same for 40 years and does not harden or gunk up. Louet carders are well known to need little to no maintenance. Regarding the swelling of wood, this would only occur if you soak the drum or do not let the drum dry well after washing. Our recommendation of washing with soap and water works fine.
I never knew I could wash the carder, thank you!
Great information, thank you. It would be useful if this information came with the drum carder.
Thank you!😊
