I exist in the land of the two extremes. Everyone is either desperate to attain status or on government assistance. Both miserable and infecting the people they come in contact with. I have no idea where to find sane people to commune with let alone a companion, it's so strange. Everyone thinks I'm insane for not being worth more or taking more.
The biggest interpretative issue for me in Ecclesiastes is the belief that the authors logic works from the belief that there is no life after death. This is typical with the OT emphasis on life in the now and the belief that on death everyone goes to Sheol never to return. i.e. If there is no life on earth after death, then whatever we do in life becomes useless after death. He is working from this premise. The elephant in the room is the disconnect in theology of the afterlife between the OT and NT.
I think the rest was done by Josh White (another pastor down at Door of Hope). If you go to the Bible Project website, they only have three parts also. so yea
It's funny, I know people that come here seeking government assistance cause they want to get their hands on "abundance" without contributing anything and just watch TV and do drugs cause even part time work would cut into benefits and I think about the people who work full time at the grocery that probably don't love it, probably don't feel they've gained status through their work, but what would I do without them being there everyday stocking the shelves? 🤯
Easy to say, but what happens when a Christian still feels complete apathy towards life? And if the goal is to let Jesus live in you then is the goal to simply because a vessel devoid of individuality?
I think the christian cure to apathy is in identifying with your brothers and sisters - and creation in general, one in Christ. Not that you aren't important, but that you are so much more than you can see while in the fallen illusion (good and evil/this and that/black and white/myself and the rest of the world) of individuality. You may think you're simply you, but you are an indispensable element of the body of Christ. I am with you in your struggle, neighbor. We all need you, we're counting on you, just who you are, failings and all because we are of one spirit. "The devine milieu" covers this concept well.
If you're not a troll and up for a serious answer, yes that is the same word. Abel, the light wisp of air, not heavy handed, a dreamer. Yet his lightness is not the hevel of Ecclesiaste's metaphor, which points to the volatile nature of most of our acts. Sorry for my English, not a native speaker.
This is what I needed to hear today. Some say “providence”, “coincidence”, or “luck”. I say “divine intervention”.
Same.
yeah me too
Tim what I really enjoy about your talks is how your insight of how the word can open to us... Thank you
I need this for some time now. I can't even begin to explain how much. Thank you for sharing God's Word.
Thought of this: Hebrews 4:11 “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest...” the latter part of 38 min into the lecture. Brilliant, Tim!

Amazing.
That has to be the sickest Yarmulke ever Tim.
From the land of tuques, not wool caps.
First, I love Tim. But why is Tim suddenly dressing like a Medieval peasant from a Monte Python movie? LOL
this message is from 2013
It doesn't matter how he dressed but what he said matters.
