I’m using both sonar x2 and x3 producer and when I open session drummer (we’ll first it’s only called session drummer in the menu despite being installed as session drummer 3) it loads the tracks but the interface does not appear. Is there a setting or something I’m missing? This is the same behavior on both programs.
You start by opening the synth rack..Im new to sonar and was wondering how to get to the synth rack view...once Im there I can navigate thru your lesson much easier...can you give me the step by step on how to get to the track view, my apologies for being new to it....
At around 3:25 into the video the StevenSlate_OldZepKit_Wet1.prog is loaded and a sample beat is played. The "A" pattern appears to be shown, but mine is different and I cannot find that beat anywhere. I'm wondering if he's playing it from an external controller?
Hi, I'm using Bandlab Sonar and I cant seem to get anything working. I have to insert a synth track then assign it but I can not then control which drum I want to use. In the Sonar system I used to work with I just inserted the drum then clicked on step view and I could work from there?
What version of Sonar is this kit in?? I am running 2X and interface is completely different and kit is SI-Drum Kit 1. What do i have to upgrade to to get this version with all the kits?
A little off topic but... how did you get the UI to the point where this video started? I dont see all those neet tabs and everything. (like where the synth rack is located. :( )
What version of Sonar do you have there? It looks like Sonar 8.5....also... It doesn't look like you have any project open yet you can get at the synth rack tab and bus tab... what kind of project is that and what view is it when you start from scratch? I like to have some vocal and keyboard audio tracks ready to go from the start too.. would you say put them on top and then open the Session drummer tracks? thanks for a reply
@CakewalkSoftware Many thanks. BTW have now watched the other 4 vids of this masterclass and would highly recommend to other users, not just on the finer points of creating good drum parts but also on related issues like good tracking practices and speeding up workflow in Sonar.
i am very very new to sonar and am using x1, i can't figure out where to find any of the virtual instruments and how to use them i am an upcoming rapper and this is very important for me please help
@CakewalkSoftware Great demo but I had the exact same question. I was using the 'Room rock'n'ride' kit from SD2 for an older project but can't see it in SD3, it's not on the prog dropdown so where would I get it? I still have SD 2 available on my synth list but would rather use that kit (and any others) in SD3. Thanx.
No matter what I do I can't get this drummer view that has the quick view in the top lft corner. Really pissing me off. No matter what I do I can't get this view on the opening of this video. I can open the drumm but NO QUICK VIEW
I believe you are creative and knowlegable but this is useless for someone who wants to sit down and just record themselves with extras. It is useless for the electronic heads who want 2 mix beats. Give us something easy.plz
"another "dope" kit from Steven Slate"...... I think you need to lose the hip hop jargon when talking about acoustic drum kits....."dope kit"? ..... I don't think so..... ( long time Cakewalk user here.. going all the way back to Cakewalk for DOS)
None of this does me any good. This doesn't look at all like my version of Sonar. I assume if I spend another 1000 or so I might get to actually use the stuff on the system, but I really don't have time for that. It's a shame these companies make everything seem easy as a way to get you to buy into there product, and then you realize you just have to continue buying more products to get even the slightest return from the original product you bought. Email support, phone support, almost non existent. Terrible.
you didnt even tell me anything?? I dont even fucking know how the hell to mix down my drums separately! This is too acoustic based, No one uses daws for acoustic music wtf>>?? why is there no emphasis on electronic MODERN music... FFS. Absolutely infuriating, so intricate and elaborate yet completely without decent intruction.
fuck do i have to have a keyboard to do this? 1:27 i was confused at that but now i realize you need a fucking keyboard... i just have a laptop right now. dislike.
Amazing. Sonar has come so far. This is the most complete DAW on the planet. Users of other programs are missing out. Seriously!!!

@sludgefingers The SD2 kits used presets that used the SmartLoops kits. If you want to use the SD2 kits then use the SmartLoops kits in SD3.

@FunknGrvn Actually, all of the SD2 kits and MIDI grooves are included with SD3, so there's no transferring needed. :-)
What version of Sonar is this kit in?? I am running 2X and interface is completely different and kit is SI-Drum Kit 1. What do i have to upgrade to to get this version with all the kits?
Jamie K It come with Sonar Artist (€99) and above. its very cheap for what you get.

did you put some eq or compression? it sounds a lot thicker than just plain SD3
WOW .... REAL NICE ....

Damn these sound great. Can't wait for my copy to arrive.
I want to know how to get individual midi parts into associated folder track please?
@CMayjaH That was a Dell M4400 laptop, bit outdated in terms of what you can buy now, but still reasonably powerful.
Very well done and very informative
Good job with this.
Why when I open the synth rack and open the soft synths I can't find the drums? please helpp
Excellent tutorial Seth - and a big help :)
5/5
is "session drummer" sort of a advanced "SI-Drum Kit" (studio instruments Drum Kit by Cakewalk)?
The main difference is that you can have several audio outputs to use different effects for each drum.
makes sense!
can i do the same trick in SI DRUM KIT?
I think sonar is the only software has inbuilt drum sequencing
How can i add seesion drumer 3 to my sonar ?
@garbz24 I started with no comp or EQ, and then of course mixed down the drums throughout the demo. But the drums at the beginning are dry.
Another dope kit? Lol. Trying to be hip with the youth cakewalk? Thanks for the demo and a chuckle.

Virtual drums are so fucking lame. Find a drummer, even if you have to pay him something
fuck do i have to have a keyboard to do this?
1:27 i was confused at that but now i realize you need a fucking keyboard...

the cymbal sounds horrible
