Our aunties used to soak the shells in urine to take the top coat off to see the markings and made them shiny 🐚 we used to camp at the bay when i was a kid, and my mum and i would find huge diamonds. They weren't worth any money back then.

My family had a holiday in Flinders Island in 1972 and I remember how as a child, twelve yrs old, I was mortified by the shameful history of how Aboriginal people had been treated there and could feel the pain still etched on the land of their peoples' torturous treatment. A trip by a supply ship to Cape Barron Island took us to the mutton-birding community which was run by the remaining aboriginal people who were of mixed ancestry with British whalers & sealers. We also visited Kilikrankie mining area and found crystals. I was recalling these memories to someone just the other day....Thanks for this vid, Erin & Rob.
