    I've gotten lucky with my CA boa...He's always been extremely calm, never even hiseed when he was coming out of the shipping box. My BRB has been the same way, usually they have a nasty reputation, but my female has been great. :)

    Clicked on this so fast! Been very much looking forward to this follow up 😃🐍 Snakes ‘N’ Adders a hidden gem and easily one of my top 3 favorite UA-cam channels.

    Just a side note about scientific names, the common boa was elevated to full species status a few years ago. So now it is Boa imperator

    Great video Chaz. I had a laugh about your remarks on juvenile carpets! But they can vary a lot. I remember a guy on UA-cam who had bred his jungles: a small number in the litter. He picked up one after another, and of seven or eight, only one was nippy. But these were newly hatched, so might have got bitey later. My jungle carpet has never tried to nail me, he was a bit over a year old when I got him but he's nervy and head shy. If I just touch his body, he goes into flight mode. He's more like a nervy colubrid: very active at times. Recently he went off food for 5 weeks, which has never happened until now - he fed a few days ago with the usual enthusiasm. I would have mentioned that carpets love climbing, and enjoy plenty of branches and a tall viv.

    And congrats on episode 50! I’ve heard great things temperament-wise about Hog Island Boas but they’re a Central American Boa so it makes me doubt this assessment. Any first-hand experience with this species and would you lump them in with the other Central American Boas in terms of temperament and territoriality?

      calm down wonderfully but territorial as babies.

    Chaz,
    Do you find that temperament is influenced by color variation within a species? Over the years it seems to me that the lighter colored boa constrictors are less defensive. I have also noticed this within the pantherophis obsoleta complex here in Alabama, with the lighter coastal forms being much more tractable than the northern darker forms that we have locally. In Florida kings, my hypo and white sides are less defensive than the wild-type hets that I keep. What is your experience?

    Thank you so much for this follow up! It's interesting to see where some of these snakes lost points, and also gives me a better framework for judging where some of the other snakes from the beginning series might have lost some points and not made it quite onto the first list. (I'm guessing that the Taiwan Beauty snakes lost some points on size from what you said here?). As always, I like seeing your math here: it makes it really clear how those judgement calls worked.

    Hmm, and now you’ve got me thinking. How would you rate Morelia bredli comparative to the Irian Jaya Carpets?

    • @SnakesNAdders
      @SnakesNAdders  5 років тому +1

      improved temperament and hardiness. worse for size scoring at 3
