  • Today we take a look at the newest Master Grade release, the MG Sinanju Stein NT Ver Ka. This is a 1/100 scale kit based off the Sinanju.
This kit was released June 28th 2024. This is the third iteration of the Sinanju Stein in the 1/100 scale master grade form from bandai. The first release of this design was back in 2013 under the ver ka. sub brand of master grade model kits. The 2013 version did not have the Neo Zeon markings and was designed with the idea that the sinanju stein was still a test mobile suit being used by Anaheim Electronics. We later saw an iteration of the Sinanju Stein as a narrative release to coincide with the release of the movie 'Mobile suit gundam Narrative' in 2019. It has been 5 years since that movie has come out and the update from 2013 to 2019 models was miniscule. Now in 2024 we have a version based off the Narrative movie but with the typical Katoki type design cues of different coloring, more armor and color separation as well as an added sheet of waterslide decals with standard Katoki type brandings.
Seeing as this is a return to one of his original designs it's nice to see bandai go the extra mile and make this kit fully color separated. previously on the 2019 release of the Sinanju Stein NT MG the sleeves markings on the wrist and the chest where either a sticker, or a water slide decal. Neither method cames out looking super great so a lot of fans took to advanced paint methods to complete the look of the sleeves markings. This technique known as the reverse wash is more advanced than most builders are used to. With this 3rd iteration of the Sinanju Stein these parts are fully color separated meaning the use of stickers, decals or paint isn't required to get the sleeve markings to look good on this model kit which is a vast improvement over the previous design.
Color separated sleeve markings have been around in Gundam modeling for quite some time now with the RG Sinanju and the Takumi Studio upgrade for MG Sinanju OVA both utilizing full color separated parts to recreate the sleeve markings. It's nice to see bandai step up and bring this to the MG form naturally without the requirement for a 3rd party add on kit. It does make me wonder if we will be getting more neo Zeon “sleeves” kits with the full color separation. The manual alludes to this in the Katoki interview as he mentions it would be interesting to see what other kits would benefit from the color separated parts. I think it would make a lot of sense to see something such as the Geara Zulu fully separated as that kit mostly exists with the Mg Geara Doga. I’m sure we will get a re-release of the red Sinanju with color separated parts, it’s just a matter of time.
It makes sense for this kit to release alongside the previous MG release the Narrative Gundam.
This video was filmed with a Canon R5 on a RF24-74 lens.
Rode wireless Go II microphones where used to capture audio.
Neweer studio lights where used to brighten the studio.
I hope you enjoy going on this journey with me as we review this new villain kit from bandai I had a lot of fun creating this video it was interesting to see how little has changed in the kit design, it goes to say if it's not broke don't fix it. The MG sinanju line of model kits has and will continue to be a solid great choice of a master grade model kit. While this review does sound somewhat critical at the end there I just want to drive home that this kit doesn’t have much different. If you’ve built this kit before you might be disappointed but if this is your first MG Sinanju you will really enjoy it. This build is fun and very solid and I highly recommend it.
Kit was purchased from Saqra mart. There is no affiliation between myself and them, this is not a sponsored video.

Of course! Thank you for the view and the comment! I don’t typically consider a build completed until there’s decals and topcoat.

I have a full armor TB built, I have the Psycho Zaku in the backlog, I just need to wait for a week to work on it, probably closer to fall time. The conditions for painting isn't ideal right now in my region sadly. I don't like to leave decals on a kit very long without being topcoated and that's a kit I really don't want to screw up.

I just got my hands and that takuminanju, yours make me even more excited to do it justice, though your audio level on this video is quite low, you should make it louder in editing next time ^^

I'll be sure to do so for the next video. The Takumi kit is fantastic, tons of extra little details on the armor and framing pieces. Enjoy the build!

Hey Joe enjoyed your review. Question Ive heard the mg red sinanju hasn't held up well over time does that conversion kit you have on yours make the kit sturdier? I just saw one for sale on eBay and would buy it if I knew it wasnt a hand grenade.

Hey there, thank you for the view and the comment!
Any MG sinanju is essentially the same kit the same kit since 2008 with most of the differences just being outer armor. That said I haven't seen any issues with my Takumi built Sinanju, it's held the same pose for close to a year now, the Takumi studio uses the inner frame of the MG sinanju so it really doesn't do anything to improve frame stability. I do think the waist connection is slightly different and that was the biggest issue with older Sinanjus was a snapped waist connector, which has apparently been fixed since 2013 when the OVA version came out. I would have to double check this when I get home later today. If you experience looseness there's little tricks of the trade that can help tighten the joints up so the kit is less floppy. I use Gunprimer joint guard most of the time when I run into situations like this. If I notice a joint could use some extra thickness to tighten it up during my initial build stage. I may also leave that joint unmasked when I do my matte clear coating to finish the kit, This will add some extra thickness and increase joint strength. I typically mask all pegs and connector joints to make sure they don't make a kit too tight when I spray the kit, but sometimes that can be used to your advantage. I've seen other builders use nail polish on a peg just enough to increase joint strength. I have a EG RX-78-2 that I use to test new techniques on to ensure I don't mess up a build I'm currently working on.
If you like surface detail I'd highly reccomend the Takumi studio upgrade there is a LOT of added detailing to the armor, and few frame pieces that it does use. For example the rear thrusters are completely different and have their own inner frame piece with more greebling molded into it.
If you go the Takumi studio route, I'll recommend not to use Tamiya panel line accent color. The new parts are all ABS and crack very easily with the Tamiya, you could clear coat all the pieces with a gloss clear and then use the liner but I've seen many builders apply tamiya straight to the takumi kit and had cracks quickly. Something about the Takumi plastic especially doesn't like the Tamiya liner.

@@JoesGunplaGarage Ok thanks for the reply. Might have to pull the trigger on that Takumi sinanju it looks absolutely amazing. One more question you don't happen to know anyone that takes commissions on making a custom kit do you?

i really think Sinanju Stein was how Sinanju looks before any custom and also it should not be exist bc of it was dismantled before Unicorn first took place 😅😅
IMO Bandai just resell u the old part while they coulda better control the price by redesign the runners.. sigh

My conspiracy theory behind this kit is they made this quickly as an update for the Sinanju so they could put it out and have another MG to release this year.
