@Tumbolisu Well it sounds like this advice won't be helpful to you, but honestly I think Pilot is the best for getting origin, outside of stuff like drizzle 200% damage dealt 10% damage taken. I just unlocked origin today on monsoon with only 2 red drops (dagger and afterburner). When I first got the prophet's cape, read the description and saw the FLOWING CAPE ON YOUR CHARACTER, it took me like 3 seconds to realize it was easily the best item in the game
Another reason Prophet's is busted: Safer Spaces is a trade-off for Tougher Times Prophet's Cape can be used WITH Hermit's Scarf (the equivalent to Tougher Times)
@@Sinnamonsters RoRR Tough Times is armor, equivalent to Repulsion Armor Plate Hermit's Scarf is a chance to dodge a hit, equivalent to RoR2 Tougher Times

The closest we got, unironically, is Repulsion armor, since it activates off and works best with chip dmg, something repulsion armor plate is very good at dealing with.
They had to have known what they were doing with Prophet's Cape. I mean, its ,I think, the ONLY item that appears on your character in this game when you get it? There's no way they'd make an item like that bad.
It's just very spectacular and smart way to show it on character, besides the shield icon above the one, which can be overlapped by other items' icons.
Always remember that the Repulsion Armour gives you invincibility but requires you to get hit 6 times for it to activate, but the Prophet's Cape gives you invincibility the first time your hit AND heals you. And the Repulsion Armour is a red item, and the Prophet's Cape is green. Fair and balanced, I say
@@drednoughtship2261 also repulsion stacks better allowing for up to 8 seconds of near-invincibility, while cape doesn't do much with stacks, so yeah, fair and balanced. I feel like cape is in green because it's near useless to stack it.
Couple things to note regarding these items: - Red Whip does not increase your move speed by 60%, but by a flat amount - 1.2 MS exactly. With average survivor speed being 2.6, this equates to around a 46% boost (still very good) - Ifrit's horn deals base damage instead of TOTAL damage, for some reason - Prophet's cape is absolutely bonkers
I'm a staunch Umbrella fan because of the way it just lets you wail on enemies for a whole 15 seconds is completely unmatched imo. Very build dependent, but being able to set up all your abilities in exactly the way you want with no concern for your own life is invaluable. Also the engi beam turret synergy is really cool (though very rarely applicable/practical)
Spare drone parts is even better because if you find a drone to item converter you can recycle that drone and it’ll respawn next stage so it kind of serves as the regenerating scrap from 2
burning desire (magma worm boss item) is also really good giving movespeed and a burning floor on kill is pretty damn good for crowd control (especially on acrid!)
The thing i like about prophet's cape is that having one is amazing, but after you pick one up, the effect an additional cape is dog ass. +1 healing when you block damage is nothing. I think it really incentivizes sharing in multiplayer and in singleplayer it holds you back from becoming too powerful too quickly.
Happiest mask has a CRAZY synergy with Loader's alternate R move. The lightning chains to EVERY GHOST IN THE RADIUS, meaning anything that gets caught in there is just GONE.
Happiest Mask is partly so good just because it's 2D. What used to be your epic beetle guard of doom wandering like a lost dog on some random platform a mile away is a ror2 issue with such long range and 3d environments. In RORR, your ghosts are ALWAYS near you and ALWAYS near enemies. If they were around you this often in ROR2 the mask would be great in that game.
For me it is the Umbrella, (you gain 15 seconds of invincibility after activating the teleporter, increases time per stack). It is absoluty busted to just stay inside bosses and monster hordes and press the attack button. Combine that, with the artifact of prestige and you dont need to look for items anymore because the amount of bosses spawns will drop enough.
I think Nematocyst Nozzle should have been on the list - Super short cooldown, good damage, targets things like an ATG, and Wandering Vagrants seem to pop up a lot in runs at times, making it the boss item I've gotten the most. (Or, at least, used the most.)

dang, locked jewel didn't show up. absolutely my favorite new item, Im so excited everytime I see it. the gold helps you loot through stages faster and the barrier it gives you is nuts. (very happy my absolute favorite item Laser Turbine showed up though~!)
I know this may seem small, but thank you so much for putting the deadbolt soundtrack in the background, deadbolt is one of my favorite games with one of my favorite soundtracks by Chris christodoulou and I don’t seem to see much of it on the internet. Thank you for that
Fun thing about arms race is the unique drone gives an item when scrapped (unlike the drone spawned by repair kit) A change I wish they made was to prioritise the arms race drone at the scrapper. Regen scrap at home :)
The shield-based "one-shot protection" you mention is a very common mechanic in most games, and it's kinda odd 2 didn't have a version of it to begin with. It's better known as shield gate / shield break / no overflow, depending on the game you're in.
After having played both RoR2 and RoRR, as well as some Borderlands games and Deep Rock Galactic, I'm actually not surprised that they didn't add shield gating to RoR2. RoRR, Borderlands and DRG have a lot of unavoidable damage. I pretty much go down at a rate of once per minute in high-difficulty Borderlands PVE because every enemy deals so much damage that the first hit just nukes my shield. But I can't avoid the damage, because there are at least 5 enemies literally shooting BULLETS at me. In DRG there are so many enemies that you WILL get bitten at some point or another. Note that both of these games also have several mechanics for getting back into the fight after dying: Being revived on the spot by another player, or performing a special, limited action. This shows that taking damage is a natural part of these games, yet both games are really strict with how you can regenerate normal health. It's all about your shield. RoRR has a lot of unavoidable damage. Just look at the final phase of the final fight. Sometimes you just have no choice but to walk through the green death lasers. Because the game is 2D, there is only so much dodging that you can actually do. And now look at RoR2. Every single enemy is avoidable. Have you seen Cabbage getting the Ethereal achievement on every single Prismatic Trial ever? Even enemies like normal Wisps, which have a hit-scan attack, can be avoided in multiple ways. The only two enemies that I personally still have trouble with are the lasers of Stone Titans (that tracking is ON POINT and it HURTS) and Grandparents (you know exactly why). RoR2 isn't about tanking damage, it's about avoiding damage. This is also why multiple Eclipse modifiers are all about health: You only spawn with half health, all health regen is half as effective, and taking damage will "permanently" reduce your max hp.
Phase 4 Providence almost gave me a heart attack the first time I reached it I wasn’t expecting it, and even though the music was picking up I thought it was a new cutscene, so I stood still while Phase 4 Providence attacked me and I almost died but I had a lot of healing so I didn’t die
Fireworks is pretty good too, just one stack does 4.5 times the damage of killing an enemy with Ceremonial Daggers (Daggers is 4x100%, Fireworks is 6x300%)
I high key did not know that's how prophet's cape worked. wow. Kinda wish the brief description the game gives explained more, but this video was very helpful
8:05 Off-topic from the video, but I like how the archer bugs have the same exact reputation that the primal aspids from hollow knight do. It's even more hilarious because they both have the same exact attack patterns.
I would be really interested to see a compare and contrast between returns and 2, of what you like and dislike in each. I have been thinking a lot about it myself and have reached my own conclusions and it would be cool to see other perspectives. Especially since I was someone who loved RoR1 and played that first, it would be cool to see the perspective of someone introduced with RoR2. I like returns a lot and there are a lot of things I like about it that and I also like 2 a lot, but there are a lot of things I dislike about it (despite having 240hrs). I wouldn't want like a comparison of, "which game is better", just more like, which aspects of each do you like and dislike without any real conclusion of which is "better". Idk, it would be really interesting to see I think.
3:53 this is called a damage gate. Apparently Providence has some version of it too, but you can bypass it with enough damage (which you technically shouldn't be able to do, but oh well lol)
I'd like to personally shout out heaven cracker, because while with 1 stack it's only 1/4 basic attacks, with a little attack speed it's still really great, like, piercing is so worth it for big crowds of enemies. Also, the fact that it has the ability to make melee survivor's basic attacks ranged is pretty sick imo. (Also, if you can somehow get 4 stacks, so that every basic attack pierces, it's just amazing, good luck seeing that without command though)
I don't if anyone else has motioned this but prophets capes can be even more busted specifically on engi with the prototype laser turret, as the turrets inherit all of your items they get prophets cape aswell. as the turrets self damage themselves while firing, prophets cape lets it not only block its on self damage but heal from it. the turrets are one of the most powerful things in the game but balanced by the fact they can only do a couple damage ticks before breaking but prophets cape and a few hermits scarfs let them stay immortal at enough stacks constantly blocking and healing themselves while doing the highest dps in the game, prophets cape is so fucking broken
I know you said you’re still learning the game but as someone with hundreds of hours in ror1, some of these gave me a good laugh. Personally, I’d say 10. Heaven Cracker 9. Arms Race 8. Imp Overlord’s Tentacle 7. Colossal Knurl 6. The Toxin 5. Guardian’s Heart 4. Umbrella 3. Ceremonial Dagger 2. Hardlight Afterburner 1. Prophet’s Cape
hol up what about heaven cracker? granted i haven't put a whole lot of time into the game, but every time i got one of these it felt absurdly good. obviously it's better on the characters that attack quicker, but the massive & reliable aoe damage you get is so nice for dealing with the big ol clumps of goobers
As someone who played ror1 a lot I'd say this list sounds pretty accurate (aside from saying toxin was in 1). On the topic of item differences between 1 and 2, I would love to see the less useful stuff like warbanner, harpoon, whip, knurl, psg, and disc get buffed/changed to how their equivalents in Returns are
@@bugfriendz I meant like make psg work like heart where it gives 60 shield instead of 8% max hp and change shields to do the thing where you can't take shield and hp damage in the same hit
I love how shield ruins OSP in 2, but essentially _gives_ you OSP in Returns. What a comeback. Also, I'll throw in my honorable mentions for each tier. White: Arcane Blades. Just an incredibly good movement speed item. 2 of them gets you to Red Whip speed. On Monsoon, you should be rushing to the teleporter almost immediately every level, meaning most of your time _should_ be spent doing teleporter events. Arcane Blades just makes these fights a lot easier. Mu Construct is good for similar reasons. Green: Filial Imprinting. It's probably not _as_ great as Royal Medallion (as said earlier, you should be spending a majority of time fighting teleporter bosses anyways), but the buffs it gives are significant. The best (and silliest) part of this item is that stacking it just increases the number of little goobers who follow you around, and if you can get lucky enough to have 4 or 5 of the little guys, you'll have buffs _constantly_ for you to pick up. Red: Hyper Threader. Only really good on high attack-speed characters, but _wow_ does it make them broken. This item _really_ shines on Commando, Bandit, and Pilot, and isn't a bad option whatsoever on some of the melee characters. On those low-damage high attack-speed characters, it's like a 50-65% DPS boost from base. AND the lasers can target enemies above or below as well, giving you some nice anti-air coverage.
I was sitting here like an idiot wondering what number 1 was going to be all the way up to ifrits how. The profits cape in all of its op glory shoved itself into my brain and forced me to look back at the idiot i was.
I need them to add Prophet's Cape to Risk of Rain 2. Not because of the effect it has, god no, but because it looks so fucking raw on everyone. Any cape really, doesn't even have to do anything. A purely visual badass cape would be enough for me
is barbed wire still absolutely broken? (if you stacked more than 30 anything close to you would die in a few seconds, and after stacking 100... you wouldn't even see any enemies) I ask because although I loved risk of rain 1... I play on ps4/vita so I haven't played returns yet
Legendary Spark is a sidegrade to Ifrit's Horn. LegSpark can wipe out very specific groups of enemies and synergizes with caggers well. IfHorn can be used to keep back enemies rushing at you when you don't care who you're fighting.
Surprised to see repulsion armor not on this list. Most of my experience is with og ror, having 100%'d it and not having as much time to play rorr, though I've put in a few hours, but I've found repulsion plate to be one of the strongest defensive items in the game, largely due to how you'll rarely die to any 6 hits. I cant think of any run ive gotten it and lost on. Wicked ring is also one of my personal favorites, though I can see why its not on the list given its reliance on other crit items to become powerful
being an OG risk of rain player seeing ceremonial dagger only in spot 4 actually destroyed my very soul edit: after watching the rest of the video I have come to the realization that (im sorry Disputed) but you got to be on something to not have infusion as #1
I think they made prophet's so busted to have an equivalent to RoR2's busted item, bands. It may be 10x better for every survivor, but bands were so absolutely ridiculous that they were more of a gameplay element more than an item per se

I wouldn't want like a comparison of, "which game is better", just more like, which aspects of each do you like and dislike without any real conclusion of which is "better". Idk, it would be really interesting to see I think.
Now we need an equipment tier list
rotting brain my beloved
Dynamite OP. That thing can Instakill Bosses or just clean enemy hordes with one button press
I like the drone repair kit
Missile launcher and shattered mirror my beloved
Unstable Watch #1

this is called a damage gate.
I don't if anyone else has motioned this but prophets capes can be even more busted specifically on engi with the prototype laser turret, as the turrets inherit all of your items they get prophets cape aswell. as the turrets self damage themselves while firing, prophets cape lets it not only block its on self damage but heal from it. the turrets are one of the most powerful things in the game but balanced by the fact they can only do a couple damage ticks before breaking but prophets cape and a few hermits scarfs let them stay immortal at enough stacks constantly blocking and healing themselves while doing the highest dps in the game,
prophets cape is so fucking broken
Risk of raining in my pants because this game is so good
I know you said you’re still learning the game but as someone with hundreds of hours in ror1, some of these gave me a good laugh.
Personally, I’d say
10. Heaven Cracker
9. Arms Race
8. Imp Overlord’s Tentacle
7. Colossal Knurl
6. The Toxin
5. Guardian’s Heart
4. Umbrella
3. Ceremonial Dagger
2. Hardlight Afterburner
1. Prophet’s Cape
I'm starting to think my sucking at this game might be because I have so few items unlocked. I've never seen most of these
I’d love to eventually see a full tier list
Can't believe Chef is stuck in Grandpa's basement, Grandpa probably doesn't even know, his memory and hearing ain't the best no more.
Thank you grandpa
hol up what about heaven cracker? granted i haven't put a whole lot of time into the game, but every time i got one of these it felt absurdly good. obviously it's better on the characters that attack quicker, but the massive & reliable aoe damage you get is so nice for dealing with the big ol clumps of goobers
As someone who played ror1 a lot I'd say this list sounds pretty accurate (aside from saying toxin was in 1). On the topic of item differences between 1 and 2, I would love to see the less useful stuff like warbanner, harpoon, whip, knurl, psg, and disc get buffed/changed to how their equivalents in Returns are
guardian's heart not mentioned?
@@bugfriendz I meant like make psg work like heart where it gives 60 shield instead of 8% max hp and change shields to do the thing where you can't take shield and hp damage in the same hit
@@abra_escaped ?????? this is nto risk of rain 2
Flying enemies on stage 5 are harder than the actual tp boss
I was waiting for someone to make a video about this, finally
I think he forgot about the war banner
Let’s fucking go first tier list ever
I was sitting here like an idiot wondering what number 1 was going to be all the way up to ifrits how. The profits cape in all of its op glory shoved itself into my brain and forced me to look back at the idiot i was.
i have to respect your usage of the escapists music
I need them to add Prophet's Cape to Risk of Rain 2. Not because of the effect it has, god no, but because it looks so fucking raw on everyone. Any cape really, doesn't even have to do anything. A purely visual badass cape would be enough for me
I fucking didn't have any idea about that shield being OP
Shoutout to the wandering vagrant boss item for sniping an enemy across the entirety of fungal caverns so I can open one chest
Royal Medallion easily is my #1. Everytime I grab it, my teleporter bosses just melts in seconds.
Gotta say it’s very cool of you to use Deadbolt music
8:08
Same bro, fuken hate them bugs. And the Birds to.
Couple things learned: shield is fren in returns, and holy shit im glad i don't care bout providence and just loop till i die
For all intents and purposes, i am hereby considering Artificer a melee character.
is barbed wire still absolutely broken? (if you stacked more than 30 anything close to you would die in a few seconds, and after stacking 100... you wouldn't even see any enemies)
I ask because although I loved risk of rain 1... I play on ps4/vita so I haven't played returns yet
Could you imagine if killing providence give you a boss item, the prophets cape
No frost relic on this list is kinda crazy
Could you do a list on Ror2 equipment when put on drones
Prophet's cape should be a red item, just buff the way it stacks a bit and it'll fit right in. 8 honestly don't know why it's in green to begin with.
It’s so nice playing a newer game that a ton of people play
I love the deadbolt soundtrack.
Prophet's Cape's younger brother (Hermit Scarf) is way too good to be a white rarity item.
Must be nice to have access to the Judgement trial.
just came for information and ended up laughing lots. ur hilarious dude. keep doing ur thing mate
Legendary Spark is a sidegrade to Ifrit's Horn.
LegSpark can wipe out very specific groups of enemies and synergizes with caggers well.
IfHorn can be used to keep back enemies rushing at you when you don't care who you're fighting.
Deadbolt ost almost makes you redeemable
Please make a video ranking the abilities of Survivors like saying which ability is better for each Survivor
Prophet's Cape: Become a Helldiver!
Umbrella is nasty good
Surprised to see repulsion armor not on this list.
I've been waiting for this! Thanks grandpa
You probably won’t see this but you should make a video about your favorite items to stack in risk of rain returns
being an OG risk of rain player seeing ceremonial dagger only in spot 4 actually destroyed my very soul
edit: after watching the rest of the video I have come to the realization that (im sorry Disputed) but you got to be on something to not have infusion as #1
Love the deadbolt music
What happened to the classic intro 😢
I know 😢
I was ready to get jumpscared
Heat. Heat. HEAT. you gave me what I wanted
I hate the bugs in this game, they remind me of primal aspids from hollow night and it triggers my PTSD
hehehe, ceremonial dagger in the video was listed as #4, but on the thumbnail it was listed as #3. nice
Toxin is so goated, free damage anytime anywhere
I LOVE dying in Risk of Rain Returns!!!
I miss how in ror2, items are shown on your character. Its sad that only the cape does that :(
Laser Turbine and ResDisc are part of the same machine.
please make a part two that would be rad
I think they made prophet's so busted to have an equivalent to RoR2's busted item, bands.
It may be 10x better for every survivor, but bands were so absolutely ridiculous that they were more of a gameplay element more than an item per se
I honestly believe that the cremator boss item is the best boss item
