This performance is better than the studio version and although I like concerts I can't recall any other occurrence of actual superiority in an informal setting such as this.
It gradually nails your heart to the wall. Their debut is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have just started re-listening to their music again, really amazing.
“Let’s all sit down and just have a nice cup of life.” - Adam Duritz 3/27/08 The band played 4 songs in which many consider not only some of their best live work ever, perhaps the best to ever grace the Stern studios, but this song in particular ranks for many as one of the best live performances anywhere from anytime. And they didn’t even really want to perform it. The line above is arguably the best moment in the entire performance/interview. Followed closely by Artie’s joke “… the one you have such a hard time being.” Props to the editor for including it all in the clip.
Still one of my favorite live performances ever. I can't even begin to describe what this song does to me every time I hear it. I don't know why - it wasn't even a particular favorite of mine in the 90s. I think it's the mix of nostalgia, Adam Duritz passion and vulnerability in his broken voice that gives a sort of desperate longing for something. I just find it beautiful.
I love that they're bitching about playing it. This is one of my favorite musical performances EVER. And I'm not exaggerating. Glad they were "forced" to do it. LOL
this band is amazing, every time adam sings any song he puts a spin on it, i have never heard two versions of round here that are the same. and this one is breathtaking
Unbelievable...I never really knew too much about the Counting Crows, but this is a great rendition. Somebody said a few pages back that they should put out a Howard Stern Live CD with the greatest performances ever on the show. I agree and this should be track #1. Gotta give it up to Scott the engineer to though, perfection.
it has been too long since anybody commented on this amazing performance,so i had to log in and leave something. (this is the very first time i have ever felt strongly enough to actually log in and leave a comment on anything,so ya better RECOGNIZE!! ) lol ;p the only way this could be any better would be if it was an actual video of this performance, instead of just a bunch of stills!! the performance of this song on letterman is pretty amazing, too,so if you like this one, check it out..it is worth it!
Makes the hairs on my arms stand up on end every time I listen to it. Probably the most emotive version and best live performance of a song I have ever heard. I just sit and close my eyes and listen to the words
I remember listening to this live and I was in complete awe almost in tears. The across a wire version at the time was the best until I heard this. I really wish Howard would have pushed adam to talk about his sadness. Amazing performance.
It's rare these days to hear a performer who CARES so much in a song. I mean, plenty of performers care about their music, but to put such emotion into the song, that you can tell that he CARES about what he's singing. He's not just mouthing lyrics, he's trying to express something. And it's that expression, that feeling, that caring.....that's what art is. Now, I don't mean that every band has to be like this, plenty of good bands aren't...just that this is special, this is ART
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Better than Across A Wire, and that was my favorite version of any song by far up until this point.
Had to listen to this again - so fucxxing good. God Almighty they are so good Adam you are the most underrated singer songwriter I can think of. Thank the stars you are still around. And your new album is also a masterpiece, All I can think of is you have pissed some people off in high places -because you deserve so much more recognition - that said you have life long rabid fan - and that may be the best in the end!
This is UNBELIEVABLE !!! Adam have obviously a voice with range and technic but what really makes the difference its that i feel!!! I fell!!! its heart!!! his heart is in charge of the voice!! Amazing!!! Pure Artist!!
i've seen em live a few times over there years, sometimes they're spot on, and sometimes they're just tired and want to mess around. Saw them in Denver last year, they were missing two band members, so they just invited Augustana on stage with them and did basically a 45 in two band jam session, was awesome to watch.
This is so amazing. Counting Crows have been my favorite band since I first heard them 9 years ago. To hear them play "Round hear" once again was so huge to me, tears in my eyes. And a whole new CD, I'm so speechless. I'm so filled with love.
I went through the exact same thing as Arys16. That was one of the most powerful things I have ever heard. The Thunder Road cover was just as good. I used to think the Counting Crows were lame, but this totally switched my perspective.
I think the combination of great sound in that studio and the fear of being ridiculed if you have a bad performance by Howard makes for an awesome live performance by any band on the HSS.
@Lucidwindows Stern has been so instrumental in the Counting Crows success. He had them on when they were nobodies. They'd be the first to admit it. I don't think they mind him cracking a joke like "earn your money", they have a long history together.
I still come back to this version, for some reason, it hits me like a ton or bricks

Adam is probably the most underrated musician/lyricist in the past 20 years.
27 years now bud still holds true
Adam loves two tiered societies w the Covid psyop. Communist.
not to me.
This is how you should play music and sing. Throwing your whole soul in like you don't need it anymore.
Tonight tonight Howard
And I always come back to this.

So much better than the original, this is my fav version!
Yes, mine too!
I love that they're bitching about playing it. This is one of my favorite musical performances EVER. And I'm not exaggerating. Glad they were "forced" to do it. LOL
This is one of the best live version of any song. Just incredible.
Certainly one of the best performances on Stern. Surprised they didn't play the birthday show.
By the far their best version of round here. Love it!!!
songwriting meets poetic genius...adam doesn't just write music, he paints beautifully detailed pictures of life everyone can relate to.
Poetry, absolute poetry
this band is amazing, every time adam sings any song he puts a spin on it, i have never heard two versions of round here that are the same. and this one is breathtaking
"Let's all just sit down and have a nice cup of life."
One of the best quotes I've heard.
This song will always have a special place in my stupid heart.
No ones gonna mention the collaboration of have you seen me lately lyrics mixed in there? So awesome
AD - Is a lyrical genius. I love seeing CC live best show I've ever seen!
CC is the best band ever!
I need a lossless copy of this. It might actually melt my mind
Just discovered this song last week. Listened to it bout a hundred times since then. This version is one of the best, for sure. Love it!!!
Doesn't get any better than this acoustic version. Thanks for posting.
one of our best front men
I've watched/listened to this performance at least once a week for the past 2 or 3 years. Never gets old. So raw.
"baby all I need is you" that part almost make me cry
Unbelievable...I never really knew too much about the Counting Crows, but this is a great rendition. Somebody said a few pages back that they should put out a Howard Stern Live CD with the greatest performances ever on the show. I agree and this should be track #1.

He puts so much passion when he sings this. It's such a beautiful performance. It made me tear up. So beautiful. Bravo.
Such an amazing performance
The end is classic too
"Take the bunny outfit off and put the Adam outfit on" God I miss Artie
These guys really are the real deal

"Take the bunny outfit off and put the Adam outfit on." - Artie Lange
Adam is a genius and this song is simply superb!
Makes the hairs on my arms stand up on end every time I listen to it. Probably the most emotive version and best live performance of a song I have ever heard. I just sit and close my eyes and listen to the words
You can feel it even if you only understood another language.
Best live song I've heard in last 25 yrs, and I am not even a CC fan!
This is one of the best performances ive ever heard.
"Have you seen my tail?" Best comment ever!!! You can show me your tail, Adam!!
This song brings me very close to tears. It is so heartfelt and meaningful.
I remember listening to this live and I was in complete awe almost in tears. The across a wire version at the time was the best until I heard this. I really wish Howard would have pushed adam to talk about his sadness. Amazing performance.
Heard them play this live on Stern back in '08 and am still coming back and listening. So good.

Wow. I didn’t plan on crying tonight. I guess I needed it.
I remember when this show aired. I sat thru the next 3 replays just to hear it again. Amazing!
I know, I got so TIRED of that song, but now I LOVE IT. Cant get enough! Thanks Howard!!!
Loved them since 94. Great version!
Be aware this is EARLY in the morning too. Hearing this on Stern made me a Counting Crows fan.
Adam sung in every type of emotion a human could have...he channeled his soul through this song.
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Better than Across A Wire, and that was my favorite version of any song by far up until this point.

Iam so glad I found this....Truly better than Fantastic...Good lord I was greatful to listen to this show...
i love the way adam's improvises every bridge in round here, every time its something old in a new way.
I needed this today!
Blown away!!!!!! Thanks guys!
What a great band. That was amazing.
This is UNBELIEVABLE !!! Adam have obviously a voice with range and technic but what really makes the difference its that i feel!!! I fell!!! its heart!!! his heart is in charge of the voice!! Amazing!!! Pure Artist!!
Such an incredible, inspiring performance. Holy shit, that is amazing.

f1rma I seriously doubt you’ll answer, but are they still your favorite band? You’ve been a fan for 19 years now!
MONEY.
Performance is moving whether you understand the lyrics or your a fan or not.
AWESOME.
this is an example of real music
This was a GREAT rendition of the song:)
5:22 and on... god help anyone who doesn't feel something...
I can't agree more with howard. This is the best performance i have ever heard on his show or I have ever heard live.
Got goosebumps. what a song
Wow...just awesome. I think this and the Foo Fighters' acoustic "Everlong" are tied for my favorite Howard Stern performances.
I was never a big Counting Crows fan, but this is a really good rendition. Man, sometimes I miss the 90s.
To see them perform this version love....priceless
I got to see them at World Cafe about 2 yrs ago!! UNREAL!
lets all be friends and rejoice in the greatness
such a great song.
A nice cup of life. Could Adam say it any better?
Wow.
After you don't listen to a band for awhile, you can forget how good some of their songs are.
😮 Wow!!! Fantastic band!! 👏👏👏
Best version EVER
I disagree. This version is: ua-cam.com/video/3eZrfzybFTs/v-deo.html
amazing....best song ever on stern...
I agree about CC. Their early albums were the soundtracks to my life at that time. AD: yes, one of my favorite characters of all time. Cheers*
Long time Stern fan, never been a Crows fan....until Thursday.I don't care what it takes,Howard needs to put out a live performances disc.
Thank You!!!!!
This song. So many memories.
Wow, amazing.
Thank u4sharing.I love when thier on howard stern.
@bdbd I get the chills every time I listen to this.
I went through the exact same thing as Arys16. That was one of the most powerful things I have ever heard. The Thunder Road cover was just as good. I used to think the Counting Crows were lame, but this totally switched my perspective.
Amazing how they managed to flawlessly insert "Have You Seen Me Lately" in the bridge of Round Here.
Simply inredible! Wow, talk about singing with feeling
Howard said that this was one of the best live songs he's ever heard ... i can see why!
This is one of the few bands that i prefer the live version to the recorded version, every single time.
I think the combination of great sound in that studio and the fear of being ridiculed if you have a bad performance by Howard makes for an awesome live performance by any band on the HSS.
HELL YEAH!! they played it more like an acoustic version of when it was originally played by the Himalayans!
please if anyone knows me play this when I die its my favorite song in the world this one tho
C.CROWS is my Texas License plate I love them and Adam Duritz
Such pathos. Well done, Counting Crows.
friggin awesome
@Lucidwindows Stern has been so instrumental in the Counting Crows success. He had them on when they were nobodies. They'd be the first to admit it. I don't think they mind him cracking a joke like "earn your money", they have a long history together.
I love this so much.
What the fuck. So incredible. Unreal. What a great version
If I remember Right It was on a thursday...It was Great hearing it in the car.
