    That’s a great clean and tight connection at those joints the way you cut back one to receive both braids down through the hole. The thought occurred to me, that joint electrically Where are you feed both halves provides power to each half, but then what happens at the other junction of each track? Is the braid just cut flush so there’s only one electrical connection to each half? I’m not sure if I asked that clearly. And maybe that’s addressed in another video. OK thank you onto the next one now for me.

    • @StanFerris
      @StanFerris  Рік тому +1

      Hey Scott! So I'll have one electrical connection to each braid (two per lane) and the braid itself will carry the current all the way around. There's a short section that will not have current but will act as a switch to detect laps for the computer interface. I'll try to explain more of that in another video.

    Hi, Sean again with another question, does it matter where you put the power to the track, such as at the beginning of a straight, or doesn't it really matter ? Thanks

    • @StanFerris
      @StanFerris  10 місяців тому

      Hey Sean! Good question. So on my plastic racetrack, the steel metal in the track was very resistive and the power started dropping off only a few feet from the power tap. So I had to add taps at the beginning of each straight. But on my wood tracks, with either copper tape or braid, I only need one power tap, assuming your sections are joined well electrically. The copper braid is very conductive. It doesn't seem to matter where you put the tap.

    Amazing build! I am a bit curious as to the length of the dead zone. I'm guessing its to give the lap timer time to process? It looks long.

    • @StanFerris
      @StanFerris  Рік тому

      The dead strip on this track is 2.5" long. It's in a zone where the cars should be slowing down for the turn so I'm hopeful it is long enough.

    One other thought question, is the picture on the video opening is that your car the blue number seven? Do you have more than one car? Maybe you will address that in the other videos?

    • @StanFerris

      Hey Scott! Wow, all this time and I didn't realize it was you! So great to see you are having fun with photography and I assume media work. So of course you knew Chuck and the whole gang of us, including Dave Mc. Yes, that blue Porsche is mine, 1:25th scale. Battle worn at this point. I painted and decaled it in the famous Gulf livery. The guys in the club have m a n y cars in their collections :). Blessings, Scott!

    Hi, is the dead strip it's self 3 inches, (you drilled the holes for that about 3" apart, then drilled on the outside of those holes to continue the track braiding ? I'm a bit of a perfectionist and what it to be right :) lol Thanks Sean

    • @StanFerris

      The dead strip holes ended up around 2.75" apart, with 0.5" between the track braid holes and the ds holes. There's no exact formula for it. My DS is located on a straight just before a turn, so the cars will be either coasting or braking so there should be good contact. The faster the anticipated speed of the cars, the longer you would make the ds. Hope that helps.

    • @seansheerin
      @seansheerin 9 місяців тому +1

      OK, I kinda already made them 3" apart, that should be OK right ?
