Great track.. Glad to see model motoring is still going strong. Not everything needs to be a video game.

You did a great job! I used to run slots in the early 70s and again in the 90s. I sure miss the big tracks of the old days. Your track rocks! Have a happy a great 2022!

Good video, very nice track table you made, you are very knowledgeable track building, I myself just built wood 4×8 table and put my AFX track on top of the table, thank you for the video. See you next video.

Super nice, Randy! How many volts are you running? Is that magna-braid or copper?

Thanks Van! Power supply is variable, but I usually run around 10V for the homeset-style cars on the main track and maybe 8V on the infield track. No magnets here, tinned copper braid. I'm running the same tires the "gang" used to run, two-part urethane.

Nice clean looking build Randy! What state is this track located in? From just watching the video, I think having a car running on the small road course, while racing on the big layout, would drive me nuts. Are the cars running on that small road course HO or another scale?

Thanks! I'm in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. You really do need to concentrate on the main track when a car is running around the drift track. It's 1:32 scale, just like the main track. This is the first time I've built a track without cutting it out, so I actually have an infield, and I hated to waste it. I'm still trying to find a controller to use for it, the one I bought is not working for my track like my old PM controllers do. When you come up to Canada for a visit, let me know.

🤩Hi, good job. What kind of paint have you used to give it grip?

    • @RandyPiscione
      @RandyPiscione  2 роки тому +2

It's just regular interior house paint. I think I used matte. Tires are very important since magnets have no effect on this track so stock tires tend to do poorly. I use urethane tires on nearly all of my cars.

Super nice! Is there any possible way to get more details on how you did this.

There are quite a few videos and sites out there that describe the process of making a wood slot car track. You'll need some MDF, a router, some woodworking skills and patience. I highly recommend the routed wood slot car track tools provided here: www.ggaub.com/slots/tracks.shtml. If you have access to a large CNC router and know how to use one, that might be even better. And, if you're anywhere near the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area, let me know.

@@RandyPiscione Haha I was JUST about to post: I have a 33 x 55 cnc router that would have made short work of the routing part. The dust from MDF is atrocious though.....that's what MDF stands for: Makes Dust Frequently lol
(btw, I'm located in Muskoka ON).
There's also flexible MDF which would have allowed you to do rises, valleys etc.
Now you've got the basic track down, time to start decorating it!

@@muskokamike127 A friend down here offered his CNC router as well but I wasn't smart-enough to tell the CNC machine what to route. Once I figured out how to attach the shop vac to the router, it made a big difference, except when I forgot to turn the shop vac on. The vac needed a really thorough cleaning afterwards 'though. I decided to make this one a road course, so no banking. My last track was a bit too easy so I wasn't really after speed, I wanted it to be tricky. The two large corners change radius all the way through. I haven't decided on scenery yet. I'd like to but since I'm retiring soon, I may need to move, and figured it would be easier to move the track without the scenery. I'm up your way quite a bit, nice area for motorcycling. One of my oldest friends owns a hardware store in Bala as well. If you're going to be in Mississauga, let me know.

@@RandyPiscione Yeah, I'm currently shopping for my next bike. My nightster sucked on the backroads, suspension too short. I bottomed out on a frost heave and I swear I broke my tail bone. I couldn't sit right for a year.
Yeah, if you're heading up this way let me know, my business name is Muskoka Custom Woodcrafting, stop on in!
Once you get settled in your new place, hit me up, I can make all kinds of cool stuff with my cnc. I have attached a laser to it so I can engrave (contactless) now too.
I looked into doing an MDF track last year and it was going to be my winter project in the slow season...only problem? I haven't had a slow season since last summer lol.
To give you an idea, it's 1:30 am and I'm working hahaha (have a sign running on the cnc right now).

@@muskokamike127 We're staying in the house for now so come on down anytime for some laps. My friend with the hardware store in Bala has had some of his busiest times lately. Seems COVID has everyone thinking about doing work around the house. I checked out your website, nice work! Bike-wise, I've had a Suzuki DR650 since 1992 but finally bought a big bike, 2010 BMW R1200GS, in June 2017. In October 2017, near Huntsville, someone turned left into my path and took out me and the bike. Took some time to get riding again but in May of last year I bought a 2018 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. Wow, wish I'd discovered that earlier, it's quite a bike! You should consider an adventure bike, they're perfect up there.
