Brilliant review. The reason I'm here in 2020 is that IMHO the Land Cruiser Commercial offers a huge opportunity for Toyota now that the new Landrover Defender is out. The reason is that while the new Defender is an excellent product the only things the new Defender shares with the old Defender is the name and excellent true off road capability. The old Defender was unique in providing a highly capable, cheap, rugged, durable vehicle that served the needs of people who need a genuine go anywhere vehicle and one is mostly mechanical rather than full of fancy electronics - so easy to fix even in remote places. People like farmers in the UK and also widely in less developed parts of the world. This is a problem that I'm sure JLR thought about a lot but clearly they have decided to ignore that market and build an excellent real 4X4 but full of high tech and very costly. In the UK if you will pay 60 to 80K for the new Defender easily once you have chosen the options you want. This gives Toyota a huge opening since they sell the Land Cruiser Commercial which is a barebones version of the more expensive Land Cruiser and fills the niche that the old Landcover Defender used to do with an affordable cost range between 33K - 40K.
Theyre now 43 to 49k, considering the defender doesnt start much higher and has an interior thats literally decades ahead the landcruiser is pushing it with its price range. I mean a 7 seater invincible is 69k, thats the same as a discovery 5. Mental
Thanks Tim, This is a very good introduction to Toyota's back-to-basics 4X4. They don't sell this model in North America where our Toyota SUVs seem to be a bit bigger and fancier than necessary. This one would be perfect with a manual transmission bolted to the 2.7 or 4.0 gasoline engines that meet our emission standards. Hopefully we would get a few more colour choices as well. BTW February 2 is Groundhog Day in the USA and Canada so Happy belated Groundhog Day!
Great to hear from you in North America, thank you for your comment. I wish we could get some of the Toyotas that you have over there All the best, Tim
@@hiluxtim1494 We had a slightly cheaper and smaller Toyota 4X4 in recent years called the FJ. Sadly, it looked like it was designed by a child and the driver could hardly see out of them. Hopefully a 'sensible shoes' Land Cruiser like yours is on the way. I believe the next generation of Toyota body-on-frame SUVs and trucks is under development in Japan so there may be some big changes coming relatively soon. Would you honestly like a chance to buy a Sequoia with a 5.7 litre petrol engine that gets 12-14 miles per gallon in town and 20 going downhill on the motorway? Seriously, the sweet spot in the Toyota SUV range over here is the 4Runner SR5 4X4 with the 4.0 Petrol engine. Considering its overall capability, it returns a relatively sane 25-27 mpg on the highway. BTW I am in Canada.
They are both very similar on the road, I personally prefer the SWB because I find the size more manoeuvrable. The LWB will give a greater pay load if that is important for your use.
Were can i find a 5 door Landcruiser commercial to test drive!? Im dealing with a Toyota dealership in London and they are telling me that they cant find a demo model anywhere in the UK???
Thanks for your comment my demo is a 3 door same engine same drive train which you are welcome to come and test drive I do have a 5 door Land Cruiser commercial on site which is a sold vehicle but we will be posting a video of the 5 door very soon
Hi Tim, can you tel me what the length from the back of the seats to the rear door is please? I’m hoping a short wheelbase would be long enough to sleep in.
Hi Tim, I was wondering, do the seats flip forwards at all to allow you access to that bit of space behind? we need to store a dog ramp for our dogs and I was thinking that might be the perfect place? thanks.
Nice concise video Tim. I think this could be the perfect dog car!

If you pull that little mirror further down, it opens up for a sunglass holder. Hope that helps 😀

Thanks Tim. Any thoughts on the LWB vs SWB on the road? Is the LWB more comfortable?
They are both very similar on the road, I personally prefer the SWB because I find the size more manoeuvrable. The LWB will give a greater pay load if that is important for your use.

Hi yes the front seats flip forward to give access to the space between the seats and the mesh bulkhead. All the best HiluxTim
Do Toyota sell this version in Europe with left-hand drive?
Yes in France, I own one. Mine is a modified Lounge modified by Toyota. It’s great.
@@fredfrisbey1925 Great. I like the short wheel base with the tire on the rear door.
👍Many thanks for a great review
