I’m 16 and had always wanted to be a fighter pilot since i learned what they were, unfortunately my parents found out i was colorblind and that dream just shattered. while i can’t say i will be a fighter pilot, i can say that i will be A pilot. I am currently working on my private pilots license and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever decided to do. i love it!!

Was scrolling through the comments and saw this one. I've heard that a lot of fighter pilots have medical aliments that would normally prevent them from becoming a pilot. Sometimes there are waivers. If you haven't heard of it I definitely would look into the Fighter Pilot Podcast. They sometimes talk about getting waivers for things like that.

Jonny Kim was a shy kid, low self esteem, not many friends, wandered the hallways alone, scared little boy in general, abusive household, struggled to fit in, didnt think of what he wanted for his life at all, he grew up with a lot of hate in his heart because of an abusive father. He always had the desire to protect his mom and little brother. One day his dad held a gun to his mom and him, he fought back, it didn't go well and his father bashed in his skull with a barbell, but got him to leave. He was killed by police. Instead of directing the hate he had in him towards others, he decided to protect everyone else as a Navy SEAL. 100+ combat operations over 2 deployments, the most intense urban combat situations , Silver and Bronze Star with Valor, 2006 Navy Special Warfare Medic of the Year, Sniper, Medic, Pointman, navigator, of Task Unit Bruiser, among his platoon mates included Chris Kyle and was under his wing as newguy and assistant lead sniper/point man/navigator. Combat op after op every 2 days sometimes. In the SEAL Teams, unlike school, he was beloved, respected and liked by his teammates greatly, the first place he truly fit in. His suffering only changed form. The hate in him grew to unimaginable levels. He directed it at the enemy. And with that trauma, at his loved ones, to his regret. But great love and compassion for his friends. He lost people, and wanted to do more to save them, and graduated from Harvard Medical School and re entered the Navy as a medical officer to be deployed with the SEAL Teams. Another way to serve which he qualified for - he became an astronaut and may go to the ISS, or even the moon and Mars someday. For him, he'll do whatever he has to, they are all different ways to serve. We can reach so much past our limits and if we want something bad enough, we can achieve it. Being a little crazy helps.

I am a 57 year old road worker, I am also taking gyro copter flying lessons, but I am not just learning to fly, I am also learning to teach others how to fly, a gyro is small beer compared to an F16, but this is my goal, to be an instructor, there only two here in Scotland, I intend to be number three, the covid 19 lock down curtailed my training for a while, but I can now start again, and finish the job I started, and pass on what I have learned , so that others can experience the thrill of flying these wonderful machines.

Great guy. He represents the potential that we all want to live from and the part of us that one day chooses love over fear and passion over fear no matter how scary.
It's the same difference between the fear of failure and the fear of success that can make us run away.
In both cases when they are staring us in the face, we can feel, if we were to rise to the occasion, it would change our life, better our circumstances or we can feel that it would allow us to step into our greatness and that is when we either feel the familiar feeling of not feeling we have it in us or we latch onto that spontaneous fleeting feeling of confidence and choose to leap.
From experience, it doesn't matter how many times you can't step up when those opportunities come; sometimes we learn how to finally feel capable and worthy enough to step up in the intimidation of opportunities rather than run because of how many times we had ran away from opportunities in the past.
And having to always climb up from many missed opportunities has a valuable lesson in shaping and preparing us to be able to feel we have what it takes to take them on.
We may not get that same opportunity, but life has limitless other opportunities for us (sometimes even gives us a second chance at the opportunity we ran from) so that we can change our approach to being able to seize the moment, breaking the long-held pattern of running from it.
This guy has got me going. Amazing story!

I left USAFA and now, 2 weeks out from when I would be commissioning....I go through this nearly every day. I have this crushing fear I won't be good enough when I go to apply for Air Guard. I was confident enough back 8n high school because I had a hope for USAFA, but now I have severe social anxiety and constantly stressed and no one knows. I am too ashamed and prideful to admit I need help.
I work a standard 8-5 job (thankful for it) as an accountant, dealing with some superficial mistakes because of lack of key training, and just hungry to escape my cubical and get back into the skies.
I am a year to 2 out....but the pain of Quitting...of temporarily letting weakness overcome me and stop me from living my LIFE goal .... it's nearly unbearable. I can't imagine living a life of regret.

    • @markg7963
      @markg7963 3 роки тому +1

You need the degree. Then you become the pilot. When I showed up to pilot training I had 3 hours of civilian time and had passed flight screening program in Hondo Texas. My most important asset was what I had learned about not giving up on an engineering degree, and a tiny amount of confidence that I had passed flight screening. The confidence grew but it was tested thousands of times in ways you cannot imagine. But by not giving up and just keep trying you eventually get your head above water. That is why the Military requires a degree. It’s a very basic test of your mettle. And without it you can’t be commissioned. And without those widgets in place the whole thing is a no go.
The other reason you need it is that it takes about 1 week to flunk out of pilot training. Monday your fine, Friday you are making that phone call back to momma trying to explain to her what happened, and to stop bragging to all her friends about what a perfect young son you are. (She has never seen you fail and doesn’t know what your up against, so tell her to nicely tone it down). The military will have the choice to retain you as an officer, or let you go. Either way that technical degree is handy.
The other thing I’m gonna kind of slam you on is you saying you never picked or liked your chemical engineering degree. Bullshit on that. Man up and own your decisions now, and run your own life. If you can’t do that you will have no chance at pilot training. I know that’s hard to hear, it it’s fact. Your a smart guy or you wouldn’t be in that program to begin with. If you need to chance your degree, fine, but nobody is gonna listen to you whine about your own choices.
Go talk to your local ROTC detachment, guard or reserve units, or AF officer recruiter. Get it figured out. Many can do it, but most won’t.

@@markg7963 First of all I appreciate all the effort and words man- The reason I wanna give up my studies is because I can study in the military and graduate as an officer at the same time- things in my country is different and I have always been an A+ student in Chemical engineering but man oh man I am not enjoying anything of it and it will take me the same years that I will take to graduate to be an officer- I know it’s hard to explain and I know that things were quite different with you and appreciate all that encouraging words to make me keep studying and I am now still a student- but in comparison when I saw that it is the same amount of time to be a chemical engineering bachelor holder or to be an officer in Air Force- I just couldn’t live with doing something that I didn’t like but I chose because It was the best option for me.
Maybe u would ask why didn’t u choose to go to the military before studying something that u don’t like and don’t want, it’s just that I wasn’t allowed to join the military since I wasn’t a passport holder- and it felt so hard that after holding the passport and being able to achieve my goal- I would spend more time doing the same thing I have always hated. I decided to keep studying and then join the military but that would take me more time and if I keep studying I would be held to a company and will be forced to work with them after graduation.
I know it’s hard to give up an engineering degree but there is always that moment where u need to pick something over something- and I don’t wanna regret giving up my dream sir, I am still taking some opinions from ppl who I trust and have more experience than me in life and still haven’t made up my mind about it but I am really thankful for ur words.

Ive flown missions with my Marine wingmen and they are brothers in arms. But until you taste fear for real...and experience what its like to go to war...and come back from a mission and your buddy didn't make it back, then you'll know that it doesn't matter what uniform we wear.
