IKR!!! I was thinking the same thing too! There are preschools in the city with less stuff. I don't wanna hear about this man being a "minimalist" when his kids can open up their own toy store. His ideology and what's happening in his home do not jive. Unless it's his wife that keeps buying the kids all of this stuff.
Love how this turned out, really responded to the client. I think the desk on the wall is good, looking at the playroom sounds like a nightmare for a minimalist
I think facing the desk towards the open space is much better than facing a wall considering he has kids, he has to keep an eye on them. Perhaps a white L shaped desk would be best, along with a whiteboard behind him and tv stand/storage space underneath.
I have an L desk which I made it so it is not in the 90° of the wall but away from it almost boxing in where the chair is in the inside. I would have done that in this space and then put the acrylics in the side towards the back and a giant sticker type whiteboard. Minimum is a meter by meter. I would have done a wheelie chair or maybe a really really comfortable chair that in general doesnt hurt the butt or back. I've had a really nicely shaped wooden chair I could stay on for hours but havent been able to find any other one like it. Probably would do without the carpet because it's easier to clean imo. Might get wall stickers that are large and not cluttered yet beautiful. (Either bamboo style with large space between the bamboo or maybe company logo on the wall) absolutely nothing on desk and enough room for supplies to fit in drawers
Abbie's idea is so much better than the make over which was done. This would also mean the space had the feeling of separation whilst still being part of the room.
A "how to work from home" video would be nice too. One of my wfh friends just shared her tips on Facebook. You could ask the peeps who's rooms you've done to share tips.
Fantastic! You could tell from the expression on Mike’s face that he really loved it. I think the desk orientation is perfect, this allows some privacy and divide (and allows Mike to have visual minimalism in such a busy environment). It’s not that difficult to simply turn around to see what the kiddos are up to, he will be able to hear throughout.❤️
Initially, the green triangle gave me Christmas tree Vibes. But not once you placed the desk there. Very nice and a good reminder that you are doing your makeovers for the style of the customer. He seemed very pleased!
Love this makeover, and I've just got the same chair in white for my home office! By the way Alexandra, my hubby and I don't miss any of your makeovers - you keep getting better and better! 😍👍
Great idea for a corner office space. The desk is lovely and the colours are spot on. He could even extend the area if he needs to. The basement play area is awsome (bigger than my whole house, ha ha!)
yes, I loved the minimalist look, but I would have placed everything on the other wall also so he could turn his head to watch the kids! but very nice concept and loved the shelves! good job!
I thought for sure this time the desk would not be facing the wall, especially since part of the point is to keep an eye on the kids. May I ask why you put the desk this way,?
I know there is always the budget to consider, but it always bothers me when I see you toss down a rug with no pad or non slip corners to hold it in place. Especially when there are kids around (or adults!). It is way to easy to slip, slide or trip on a rug that is not secured. Something to think about for the future. Last note... Yeah, Mike, I like that "minimalist" kids play area you have. HA!
A lot of these makeovers on UA-cam, no matter who does it, make stuff that was previously in the space just go "poof" with no hint of how the client's going to fit it all back in. A bit unrealistic, that.
I am addicted to your videos!!! I've been watching frequently for like, 4 months... Girl! You are amazing at that! Just bothers me that here in Brazil we don't have quality products that accessible.
I don’t think I would enjoy working at a desk that faces a wall. When there was so much space to work with I think having the desk facing out would feel less oppressive.
I think the only thing that I would change is the orientation of the desk. I feel like having it face the wall doesn't look/feel right. If you turn it and push it out it'll face the play area and it'll create a designated office area.
he doesn't need much space, apparently he can work on his kids' table with no much issue. also having this space for the kids means he can have all the rest of the house for himself, with no toys laying around
What was $400 dollars spent on?! The desk should be facing out towards the playroom and he needs a bookshelf to take out the products from the boxes he had on the floor to really organize and maximize his work area. The green triangle was a cool pop of color, the desk was nice, he needs a chair with wheels. Unfortunately, this makeover was a miss for me. What his work area mostly needs is getting more storage for his overflow of products to really create more of an impact within the space. ☹️
Love the concepts and all the pieces but I would have pulled the desk away from the wall and put the chair behind it so he could watch his kids while they play/ while he works. Having his back turned is a recipe for disaster lol.
maybe a low bookshelf as a divider and flip the desk against the other wall so he doesnt spend all time spinning around to watch the kids when they are down there too but still has a wall to hide cords so he doesnt create any trip hazards for them either.
great job Alex! he seems like a very sweet soul and a great dad. thank you for giving him such a nice makeover! I do think making the desk face the children and adding some storage for his products would of been more logical in his situation :) something to keep in mind next makeover. Also 22$ for that pencil holder... ouch lol.
Love this! My office was inspired by your cupboard office. It's under the stairs, has great head hight (as our home is a Victorian terrace so has super steep stairs) and has a custom desk and shelving made by my talent carpenter husband. Thank you for the inspiration, literally would still be working on the dining table if it wasn't for you 🧡🧡🧡
Homeowner: needs a space to work while watching the kids play You: places desk on back wall with back to kids playing. You always miss the fundamentals of what your clients NEED. Baby rooms with trip hazards and choke hazards, impractical spaces for offices. Function focus on function.
She said she added the planter and that she was putting the pothos plant in it, and gave the value for both. The plant looks like it’s the same size as the one that was sitting on the windowsill, maybe she provided the cost of the plant for the benefit of people watching 🤷🏻♀️
You bring a soft joy to my world right now. Thank you for that. I agree with floating the desk in the room, but the space looks lovely and brings the room together. Maybe a video on using what is on hand to create a wfh space... ideas for repurposing common objects or looking at what you have a different way... for those of us who are trying not to order anything that's not essential. (well... yes... you COULD argue that cute pom rugs are essential for living... but maybe now is not that time... lol) Be safe. Good Luck.
This was maybe the most difficult makeover of all... Tie in with a kids room? The green triangle was simply the best idea ever. But with everything else really plain it didn't seem too childish. Alexandra I love these series cause you really change your style every time to meet with the needs of the people that works. KEEP IT UP. I have a channel with makeovers, anyone that want to pass by is really welcome
I love the design. Your geometric painted wall accents have been fantastic. The clear shelves align so nicely. Mike seems truly pleased, and Ava, what a doll!
Love the triangle idea and shelves! But I think an L shaped desk looking towards the kids would’ve suited better with a comfier office chair and some storage underneath 😊
Fantastic! You gave him what he wanted - no clutter. I love your style and the way you decorate, but he liked something less and you gave it to him. BRAVO!!
Della Monk...my thoughts exactly! The desk should be facing the room, not the wall. If I were Mike, I 'd turn it around & move it out about 4' from the wall. He'd still have access to the white board (on his right side), have the triangle wall as a nice backdrop to his workspace, & have a great view of the room to watch his kids.
That basement looks better equipped than my daughter's perschool was.

Everyone is asking about the desk placement as if Mike can’t just move it himself if he doesn’t like it. Nice good job per usual.
I do really like it...I just feel like a locker for his boxes of product might have been great too
I love this work nook! Excellent job with the budget and needs of the owner. It's minimal, but not empty.
I think facing the desk towards the open space is much better than facing a wall considering he has kids, he has to keep an eye on them. Perhaps a white L shaped desk would be best, along with a whiteboard behind him and tv stand/storage space underneath.
abbie and a comfier office chair! 🧐

I agree with the comments however 400.00 is a very small budget. For the budget she had it looks great ...
Abbie's idea is so much better than the make over which was done. This would also mean the space had the feeling of separation whilst still being part of the room.
yes a comfortable chair too is important. she spent more on decorations that utility.
I’m so glad you featured Mike! My husband and I have a large collection of board games and love Ryker products!!
Love the space, but I would turn the desk to face the playroom so he can see what the kids are up to!
I had the exact same thought!
Exactly what I was thinking as a parent!
My first thought, too!
Ditto
Yes.. was thinking the same.
I just feel like the boxes are going to accumulate on the left wall. Kinda wish you brought in more storage elements. Like the triangle tho!
Yes , I was also hoping for some storage ideas for all those boxes
I think mabye if she had more money mabye she could have put more storage or mabye he didnt want to display/have a place for those boxes
I am not a rug fan (harder to keep clean!) and would definitely have preferred storage for the boxes.
Please keep these wfh make-overs coming. So many people are having to wfh in the wake of coronavirus and the ideas are helpful :)
A "how to work from home" video would be nice too. One of my wfh friends just shared her tips on Facebook. You could ask the peeps who's rooms you've done to share tips.
Yeah! I just started from wfh so I’m loving the ideas!
@@makemyspacework - a video on home schooling. The schools are closed down in my state. So my 3 kids are wfh 😅🤷♀️. Love your work
I love acrylic shelving. I am not a minimalist, but anything to keep my maximalist space feel calm and centered.

"mike is a minimalist..." as we view the huge playroom with wall to wall toys. lol. Love your work!
his children are not minimalists
@@marianacaffaro There ya go! Good answer!
My thoghts exactly! Darling kids though, how could you deny them anything?
@@debstrout1844 they are adorable.
😂😂😂
I would have liked to see the desk facing the rest of the room so he could look up and see his kids / keep an eye on them while they play.
I agree! Is better not work (or do anything) facing the wall...
Or at least get a desk chair with wheels
Could be very distracting haha. That being said my desk faces the room because my cat hates when I gave a wall. Ha.
I like everything about this. And if he wants, he can move the desk.
It's great! What a wonderful transformation! Such great utilisation of tiny space! Love it!
Love this makeover, and I've just got the same chair in white for my home office! By the way Alexandra, my hubby and I don't miss any of your makeovers - you keep getting better and better! 😍👍
taking notes over here! Time to update my work space!!
I really like Mike and his kids!!! And the makeover too :)
For the sake of him being able to have better sight lines for watching his children, I feel like the desk shouldn't have faced the wall.
Yes, I thought that too, plus better feng shui to not face wall.
Yes, I thought that too. Plus better feng shui to not face a wall. He can easily make that change if he likes.
Mirror?
@rn1005018 Have you tried working like that?! At best it's detracting. At worst he gets a stiff neck and nothing done.
@rn1005018 this is the response of a person who doesn't work with or have children. or if you do, you don't watch them very well.
This is my favourite makeover so far 😊
Great idea for a corner office space. The desk is lovely and the colours are spot on. He could even extend the area if he needs to. The basement play area is awsome (bigger than my whole house, ha ha!)
I feel like it needs more. Some kind of storage under the window. More acrylic shelves. A wheeled desk chair.
Always great takeaways from this series, no matter what your space looks like!
yes, I loved the minimalist look, but I would have placed everything on the other wall also so he could turn his head to watch the kids! but very nice concept and loved the shelves! good job!
This is so lovely, well done. Those kids are adorable too!
I thought for sure this time the desk would not be facing the wall, especially since part of the point is to keep an eye on the kids. May I ask why you put the desk this way,?
She doesn't have children, so it wouldn't be something she would even be aware of.
So that he can concentrate on his work better? Yet, he would still be able to hear if there was a problem with the kiddos.
So glad to hear this comment. I would def turn the desk around
I would def turn it around..
I would’ve turned the desk the other way too but I think it’s an easy fix and can be done by him if he wants to :)

Love what a big impact the wall shape made! Just the right amount of changes 🤍
Love it!! As always- did a great job!!
Tuff space but you really pulled it off! Loved the triangle pop of color. Great job!
Love that rug! Such a great price, where did you get it?
Kind of missed storage for all of his Amazon boxes.
He needs to find a closet for that. That doesn't need to clutter his workspace.
I am addicted to your videos!!! I've been watching frequently for like, 4 months... Girl! You are amazing at that!

Do you comparison shop on these makeover items. I feel that you sometimes overspend.
I agree
Tbh the space doesn't look like it's $405...🤨
$22 for a pen holder? When the desk has draws 🤔, and bought another plant 🤷🏽♀️
I love this. Its minimal but the shapes and colors are so powerful and focus oriented. It feels like a place where things are going to get done.
A clearboard instead of a whiteboard would have been cool too, and would blend even a little better into the wall
Love how it turned out!! As soon as I saw the space I *knew* you were gonna paint some sort of accent on the wall. The triangle looks great!!
Love the concepts and all the pieces but I would have pulled the desk away from the wall and put the chair behind it so he could watch his kids while they play/ while he works. Having his back turned is a recipe for disaster lol.
