That’s crazy I never knew they were from my home town yo the seven cities is awesome tho we live in a great area and a great state.. I’m up in the mountains right now… was at the oceanfront last wknd.. the world is beautiful sometimes we just have to put our phones down grab the one next to us and get out there… carpe diem
The band singer once went on a 20 day hiking trip through Switzerland with a group. The first night, the cabin they stayed in didn't have enough room for everybody in the group, and there was no youth hostel on the mountain where they were, so he and one other person had to sleep on cardboard mats under a hut made of plastic crates. It gave him a new outlook on the plight of the homeless, inspiring him to do more for those without a home... and also inspiring him to write this song.
A couple months ago a fellow student of mine played this in my class. There was 30 of us in the room and everything was silent. We were all in shock. In our class we aren't allowed to have sound come from out of our computers.Sothe teacher came up and turned off his computer.Over the next few days we debated the point of having music in class and we won!The next day we all played this song andcheered.Everyday since we have played thesong at least 5 times each everyday. This song gave us happiness.
I remember I went to their concert when I was younger, now I’m almost a senior, and this song makes me cry…. All of the good memories man, if you are young reading this don’t take it for granted😔
I was obsessed with this song, which I found randomly by accident, in high school. That was over 10 years ago now… and I haven’t heard it since around then… WOW. This is crazy nostalgia. Still remember almost all the words.
This is perfect, I went to university in Switzerland. Every time I miss it I listen to this song recalling memories I made just like the singer is singing about
This song meant so much to me when it came out. I saw them live when I was newly divorced. Fast forward, my 6 year old is learning it on my Kona. It's like full circle. I live in Norfolk and Oh Switzerland.
Lyrics We tried to sleep up in the banks of snow But soon discovered it was far too cold So we then retreated into town To find a place where there was level ground Oh Call home Oh oh Switzerland You've taken way my breath now once again You've left me with a sense of compassion For the ones who Cant pick them selves up off the ground Oh Switzerland I never thought id have you as a friend I'm praying it was not at all pretend I need you now To help pick me up from off the ground Our drinks were hardly worth the price we paid But we thanked God for them anyways and With five minutes left we broke our backs To spend more money than either of us had Oh Call home Love to Switzerland❤💞🌠🌍
I'm used to listening to heavy metal and scream, but this is a flawless song. I don't need someone to tell me to listen to more of The Last Bison, I've taken the liberty of looking up every song and listening to each of them. I just hope that some jackass isn't going to try to say I can't listen to different genres because I've met plenty of people who do so.
it's so upsetting how slept on they are. I had their song sleep as an alarm ringtone for 2 years. I've written three short stories to their song cypress queen. ad this song has helped even out my rougher moods since the day I heard it. their albums are the main reason I started listening to vinyl
It's quite literal. The group were out in Switzerland camping, but soon discovered it was far too cold. So they went into a diner in town with not a dollar in their pockets and still found compassion within.
I cannot believe the impact of this song.. as a producer, this is serious truth in a beautiful song, you can't take away from the purest innocence they, and other artists portray when they strip it all back and write/sing about the truth! Woe wow wow.. truly gorgeous every time!!
These guys are real down to earth people and if I remember correctly, I think most of them are family. Got a chance to talk to them and watch them play for us at TCC down on Cedar Rd. in Chesapeake before they signed with a major label.
I remember listening to this the first time. It's not one I listen to all the time but when I miss someone I do. Small songs like these always sound the best for certain situations.
I see a lot of comments about how sweet or comforting of a song this is, but does anyone else feel something eerie when they listen? The way he pleads for Switzerland makes me think of pleading for peace, as if he's in some form of distraught. I don't really know the artist or their intentions but I like this song because of a hidden narrative (that may or may not actually exist).

I saw you preform in place of The 1975 at the 96X Winter Meltdown. It was a shame that they got stuck in Manchester beelcause if the weather, but I really loved your preformance. In all honesty I think I enjoyed your preformance more than I would have enjoyed The 1975's. Your energy was amazing and the instrumantal could be not only heard, but felt. I live in Hampton now, but grew up in Norfolk, and I am proud to say that you guys are from Virginia. You all are going to make it big, I know it!

I agree, and I think the man in the hat is the boy's father and also the man in the locket, who appears to be wearing a military uniform. From this I assume that the father died in battle somewhere, and now as you said he is welcoming his family into some version of heaven.
Anyone knows what's going on in the clip? From my interpretation, the boy lost his father, who was a soldier, and the people on the other side of the door were dead kin, whose he reunited with after dying. Then his mother died when found out her son was dead, passing to the other side of the door as well.
So I may be entirely wrong here, but this is what I think is happening in the video- A little boy is living with his over protective mum, but he dies, so the man takes him into the after life. Then the mother wakes up and realizes her son is missing/ dead so runs into the woods and tries to find him, but can't reach him because she's alive. She ends up dying in the woods, so she too is allowed into the afterlife and to see her son again! I think the style of costume explains their death dates
What do you guys think this video means? The little boy goes through the door into a different land and see's a man dancing with a woman who is in uniform makes me wonder if it could possibly represent a "heaven" type of place or whatever you want to call it where his father is, and when his mother comes searching for him she dies of heart break, and the boy is given the key to let her in when she comes looking?? Just wondering what everyone else thinks!!
I absolutely agree!! I'm so excited to see someone else write this. It just made my day to find someone else with this interpretation. The young boy was literally following the light to get there but then you see the mom with her own lantern and she has to pass away to get in.
The song's based off of their experience in Switzerland and how it taught them more about people who have less due to the fact that they had to work at a local pub for lodging and food money. They got a new view pertaining to people who have little or nothing after being in that situation. At least, that's what a comment on the previous video said, roughly. But that's been taken down due to UMG copyrights...
My 3 year old loves this song. She can’t stop watching the music video now that I showed it to her lol.
Still love this song just as much as I did when I first heard it in high school. Makes me proud to be from Chesapeake ❤️
hey what? They're from Chesapeake?? I am too and I really like this band but I didn't know.

Yeah there is a lot of mystery with the desperate tone that's used
Still a wonderful song--hope it doesn't fade into obscurity ...
