Static fire is at 2:22:10
you legend
Thanks
Cheers
Thank you
I loved men!
I love that Godzilla shutdown sound!
A thousand times yes
1:30
Raptor sound* :D
So, a baby Godzilla attack? Interesting.
ok all...let‘s wait for Scot Manley‘s explanation on that...:)
Check yo' stagin'!
LOL, I was thinking the same thing!
Even Tim would concur I'm sure.
He said its most probably the concrete on the pad
you mean the guy with the big Scotish accent who speaks too loudly and takes for ever to explain simple things ? can't wait !
No one talking about the fish cameo? Really? nobody? 1:51:34
"HERE, FISHY FISHY FISHY FISHYYYYYYY!!!!!"
Nice
I saw that too its just on the left of everyday astronaut
Great eye!
That cost me several replays...but...cool, thanx
Imagining the static fire test accidentally turning to a 200M hop.
🤣🤣hopefully they would be able to control it and land it if that happened
They made just another ground rolling test with the then brand new F-16 falcon, it has never flew yet. And the flight control computer was just doing its job, and the nose came up. After a point the pilot realised that there is no more space of the runway for stopping, and that's how the first flight of the F-16 happened. Landed safely.
Don't tell that to SN1 ;)
I mean don't you remember SN4? The mass simulator certainly hopped
I mean if that harmed they will blow up the thing
Looks like the concrete pad came apart with the thrust.
@@whannabi dont forget this has 3 freakin Raptor engines
I dont know it was glowing, would concrete glow like that? Glowing metal if something melted or broke down.... I hope its concrete
@@nicosmind3 It's not molten material, Tim confirmed that in the stream.
It's glow died down after the engine shutdown, which means it wasn't hot and merely reflective
If concrete has moisture in it, it can explode if you heat it too much. It's good practice to cover the concrete floor with something when you're cutting with acetylene. Could have been that.
@@ataboo Yep exploding concrete hurts...
hopefully that was frost on the launchpad from the cryogenic fuel, and not a raptor having engine-rich exhaust
No chance it was frost there was literally sparks fly up as high as SN8 is tall.
Could also be ice condensed from the air.
@@LoanwordEggcorn never seen ice looking like that. Looks like welding sparks.
@@deltaboy2011 Look at the pieces in slow motion. They stay lit up by the rocket exhaust flame and a constant size and don't burn out like sparks would.
If you're saying they moved quickly, anything near a rocket exhaust would move quickly.
I think it was ice or concrete that got blown off. I dont think it was sparks as did not "glow on its own". It just reflected the engine light
Thank you for your time and content! I appreciate all you do!
Loved the sound of the jumping fish too. Very relaxing 😌
I love how Tim can wait for hours and still feel the excitement from a few seconds of "something", that just shows his true enthusiasm
Static fire is at 2:22:11
You da real mvp
You can also see on the red line, at the bottom of the video, there is a gap where it’s indicated (ty EA)
Just arrived from work and just want to say @Everyday Astronaut, thanks for the "Mostly Nothing" tag just till the static fire
I remember static fires last spring. At the time, I wondered about the strange sound coming from the engine during shutoff. People were saying at that time that other kinds of rocket motors made the same sound and that it had something to do with the turbines spooling down rapidly. I would take the sound to signify that the motor's moving parts were intact and functioning normally at engine shutoff. I also remember lots of fires and damage to ground equipment back then.
@Ronald McReynolds Ahahah the similarities are uncanny!
Thank you soooooo much Tim. My very favorite Patreon.
Wow...
I sit in awe of these tests sometimes when I realise I'm living through and witnessing a major pivotal point in human history, the beginning of our transition to an interplanetary species.
THE most useful timestamps EVER! Thanks
Thanks for putting in the Chapters! 👍🏼
Well that was... weird. 💥
On a serious note, the creation of a government on mars is going to be the WILDEST thing to go on ever. EVER.
Bold take to have on a failed launch video...
@@martinluther6502 It is not a failed launch. It is a static fire test of the Raptor engines.
Excuse me, failed test and Mars rover vs human colony on another planet are about as far apart as the moon and the red planet. Let's try to get to the lunar surface consistently before we shoot for Mars
Can't believe they're already doing it
Doing what?...
Great timestamps in the description, Tim!
Let me preface this by saying that I am no rocket scientist,
but perhaps the surface of the stainless steel around where the cryogenic fluids are stored is cold enough to freeze the humidity in the air into thin sheets of ice. When the engines thrust hit the ground the vibration of the rocket and the redirected thrust and heat from the engines blew that off the lower surfaces. It seems to me that the force of ground vectored thrust would be significant and proportional to what we see in the video. The light from the rocket was reflected by the ice/water as it blew off creating this fireworks like display.
Only a theory, what do you guys think?
Very well possible, but since we haven't seen it before I think whatever happened isn't nominal.
Same thought. But have no clue. So probably wrong ^^
Thankyou for putting the time on
He talked until the sun went down :D
It just farted and stopped
Better fart and stop than fart and instant dissasembly 🤣
It intended to very short :)
They light engines only by a fraction of a second.
Long burn will be when they hop (or when they are testing raptor engines separately on a stand).
Was a little bit of a shart 🙊
DANGEROUS,TOO. GOOD LUCK TO THEM ALL AND SPACE X.
looks like cement when it gets hot and pops into pieces
Think of the damage that concrete chunks that size would cause to the launch infrastructure. That might set the hop back quite a bit.
Birds flying back lighted with rocket fire was awesome!
Thanks for the stream Tim! See you on the next one
I love the pre test checklist..." Pointy end up " lol
I love how it's mostly nothing for 2 hours and 22 minutes then excitement.
$$$ great work Tim! $$$
2 shirts from the stor got shipped to Germany via 8 days!!! LOVE IT !!!!
Cant wait to see this Modern Wonder Fly!!!
2:22:00 for the action
You can see the dedication and high level of interest from him being able to sit the for 3 hours just to see a couple second fire ... 👀
Sounded like a dragon at the end. 💓💯
Thank you 🥰👍
Possibly protective fire insulation from the stand that got caught directly in the blast downwards, and then blown apart and sent upwards, much like the junk we saw fly up during SN5 launch when it goes sideways over the stand. Could be that with 3 raptors blasting, some insulation coating was ripped free, or could indeed be some of the concrete spalling up from the blast.
It only fired one engine
the up shooting depris didn't happen right away. The engine had fired for a bit before something gave loose (probably on the ground support on mount) and was obliterated. The sound of the rocket was normal with typical shutdown.
They've recently been pouring concrete between Launch Pads A and B. This could have been stripped up by the exhaust plume if it hadn't set sufficiently.
Tims face was hilarious!
Sounds like the Titan WHOOOP at the end
the honk at the end reminds me of flushing the loo on an aeroplane :)
it looks like the concrete below the rocket shattered, either that or the engine nozzle
I think nozzle fell off. But I know nothing about rockets.
Yeah I’m thinking concrete too
@@johnwilliamson9982 there would have been a pretty massive explosion if that were to happen, probably just concrete being ripped from the launch pad or liquid nitrogen burning out
It’s concrete bc the physics all match up to concrete getting ripped off
“Pointy end up, flamey end down”
I love that _mostly nothing_ title XD
Starship with its full glory!
One doesn’t experience self-transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates ♦️
It'll be a little warmer in Boca than Iowa in mid November. LOL
I now want a Raptor honk as my notification sound!
If it can help your personal scedule. I seem to understand that they do tank test during day light and pyrotechnic at night to have the best visual perseption of the tests.
anything happens on screen: Everyday Astronaut is freaking out^^
Now imagine the 'concrete sparks' coming after final version of super heavy booster equipped with 35 raptors!
It will have a proper pad surface, and Super Heavy will have 28 engines
How fast can starship do the Kessel run?
I'm subscribed and clicked ALL - why am I not receiving notifications!?
YT has been incredibly bad with notifications recently. Either I'm getting them late (12-24 hours later) or they just aren't pushing at all. It might be on their end.
The algorithm is stupid. If you don't watch something consistently, it doesn't recommend. It also unsubscribes you sometimes.
That's strange, I'm getting notifications just fine
Hello Tim - we are in Florida and are thinking of going this Saturday night do you have any suggestions on where we can see it? All tickets are sold out?? We are huge fans of you and watch your UA-cam all the time!! 😘
They’ve come a long way since this
Looks a lot like ice from the GSE. Been cold soaked in humid air for quite some time.
There's not enough ice to make that much debris, and it would vaporize
I think it was a puddle of water being splashed by the shock wave (pretty close to the observer and being lit by the flame)
New concrete exfoliating under heat and significant blast from the engine. Bits flying like leaves in the breeze.
Cool to have another angle compared to NSF and LAB.
so only the backup date of the 11:th of November is cancelled, so it sounds like good news.
Must've been a very stressful and exciting pre-launch that day.
ok all...let‘s wait for Scot Manley‘s explanation on that...:) yes!
Can't believe I missed it 😫
Has there been consideration to what the raptors are doing to each other? The Saturn V F1 engines were found to need insulation wrapping to protect them from shock waves slamming around.
Great point about Solar. You are right it's awesome in many situations. The problem is with the mass development of it to meet today's energy needs. That's the problem, and it's takes huge energy and pollution to develop, as well as the environmental cost of batteries as well. That's the only issue. That's why we need things like natural gas to help bridge us to the new energy future.
I hope sn8 will gave the 15 km hop soon. Cant wait
1:51:34 The first martian fish
Whoa Godzilla!
Molten shards flying. That is a Starzilla fart.
thanks Maria ! ice ice baby ! still anticipating cyote video /pic.....x
update, we love space x. We traveled to Boca Chica to see the starship get built. & we got the S dual motor fsd last Christmas 🎄 😎 still have the cybertruck tri motor or 4 motor fsd on order, i got lots of solar & backup battery system to charge them both.
3 1.5" aircraft cable tethered up the sides = .3 g capable load. also maybe use the boil off to drive the engines for spin up ???
"This could be something SIMPLE like a...
VEHICLE, GASTANK"
say what???
still standing good
This is future
Chunks of ice? There was some residual fire under the rocket though.
2:22:05
Those geese got the shock of their lives.
SpaceX Starship system a fully-reusable, two-stage-to-orbit, super heavy-lift launch vehicle under development by SpaceX since 2012, as a self-funded private spaceflight project
Good call Scott Manley.
Your Stream is on the 48th place in the german trends. lol
I think it was the base of the test pad, I don't think it could withstand three raptor engines and it bagan breaking apart.
Two engines have already been replaced (or repaired) because of a similar noise while testing. Kind of like a bad bearing in a car or turbocharger going bad. Maybe a Raptor turbopump. Not sure if it was something like that that caused this noise but I guess we'll find out soon.
Now I only want to see the dynamic fire
I say ice they were dumping liquid nitrogen like it was coming out of a fire hydrant no way they didn't freeze some stuff that got blown around by the exhaust
That's definitely a good bet
no way super chilled propellant (not NOX) didn't freeze the condensation of warm humid Boca air over the span of hours. Ice is what my money is on.
They didn't use liquid nitrogen
Any answers yet about cold spray deposition of 304L stainless steel to strengthen welds and improve laminar airflow?
There's no mention of that anywhere IIRC
Holy cow! What's this? Space Shuttle 2? Is this a new NASA Space Shuttle???! Amazing! 😃
It's better even than Shuttle 2.0, and it's not made by NASA as a matter of fact!
I've ordered the tri motor fsd cyber truck..BADASS!! No One Does What Elon Does..the S is my next buy..I love SPACE X TOO
firefly sucha cool name and reference...
Ice, site lighting and engine fire just light it up.
I don't know what the wind conditions were on location, but to me it looks like those sparks' epicenter were a little offset to the left of the rocket
Wind conditions = broken wind 💨
The commander of the flight is the law.
Tim's goose impression lol
SN8 was just practicing its “Sandpeople” call for future encounters.
That looked like a bunch metal spraying everywhere.
Preliminary shows that the debris is from the pad, and not the Raptor
All the brightlly lit debris were behind the rocket, so I would guess came from a single point source to create that pattern.
What flew in front of it at 2:23:00 ?
You just know there was one launch technician laughing saying "hey the sign clearly says no parking....hit the button" and there was another confused assembly worker that was like ".....dude where's my truck?"
