We were fortunate enough to watch from our backyard and get almost completely clear skies for the duration here in NC (about 84% coverage).
Same, in Ann Arbor area. Magical, spiritual. Once in a lifetime for an average person. probably.
Had 94% coverage in 2017, and it was a pretty boring experience. Went to Indianapolis on Monday and… I have no words. Totality was the most incredible thing I’ve seen in my entire life, I don’t think anything will ever beat that.
I was in Charlotte and it wasn’t even close to 84%
Everything up to about 90% is interesting. From 90-99% increases in coolness by a factor of ten. From 99-100% it increases by another factor of 100
I Drove 5 hours to mid Illinois. completely clear skies. It's my second total eclipse after 2017. Even more amazing the second time with almost Double the length of Totality!
Same story but seen from Forest Ohio! 🌿🌻
Ditto the above, from West Baden IN!
I left Tulsa in the morning and followed the weather map. In the afternoon in Arkansas I saw my first completely unobstructed eclipse. I was expecting beautiful. I got emotional too. If you're on the fence about going to see one, I strongly suggest it.
Here in NW Austin, the clouds cleared just enough to see totality. Both before and after Diamonds. Intermittent clearing after and before. Just fine.
Tim! Thank you so much for this! I’m out on the West Coast, Vancouver, BC and you gave me and many others the opportunity to experience this. Amazing! Much respect to you 💖☀️🌑
Wow, Tim. What an amazing experience. Thanks for sharing with the world.
More than a day later and I still haven’t gotten over what I saw. Looking back at this stream, I feel so fortunate to see a completely unobstructed Totality about 1 hour from Dallas TX. Something I will surely remember for years to come.
"It's a solar flare thank you! Yes!" Bill is such a cool guy. God he loves science and he's thankful for it.
2:02:08 darkness begins
Thank you, bean
Drove from New Hampshire to Plattsburgh, NY to get close to the center of totality. Our first total eclipse was covered with some clouds, like in Texas, but our viewing location was perfect as we were on a south facing coast of Lake Champlain. We could fully see the horizon from east to south to west. We could see the umbra's full width as totality approached, sooooo awesome! Got pictures with my telescope and preformed some experiments on pin projection, cloud convection, fuzzy shadow effects, animal audio observation and shadow banding. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to make the most fun in such short time and we were not disappointed.
I took my son, mom, and step dad to the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio for about 3 min. 56 sec. of totality on a mostly clear day. Such an amazing experience shared with loved ones and a large crowd of strangers gathered for a singular purpose!!! I hope you all got to have an amazing experience as well!!!
Drove from Minnesota to southern Missouri for totality. Drove through Cedar Falls twice, both times wondering where Tim Dodd watched the eclipse. Awesome video EDA! btw, CLEAR skies in southern MO.... the experience of nearly 4 minutes of totality was...indescribable.
Absolutely clear, horizon to horizon, all day long, here in Maine. Viewed the eclipse from the foot of snow-covered Mt Katadin.
I had a great viewing experience today, with my planetary society t-shirt on, no less!
We've had our first cloudless day in 2024 on the day of the eclipse where I live! It was incredible
It's A Brave New World !
I drove 4 hours to Stratton, ME. It was clear as a bell and spectacular. It was my second one, went to Tennessee for it on Aug 21, 2017.
I drove from Oregon to Waco for this….but because of weather issues I then drove to hot springs AR that morning for clear skies.
I am sorry you had so much cloud. We went to Maine to avoid that. Wife, son and I all got a solid minute of telescope eyepiece time and a minute of binocular time, in addition to naked eye viewing. Set a timer for 3 minutes and changed each minute to get three perspectives and be safe about it. That solar prominence/flare through our telescope was UNREAL.
Y’all are so lucky! We were in the path (New Braunfels TX) but got completely clouded out when totality came. We did get to see the partial phases, and it getting dark so suddenly was super cool…but man, the clouds were a huge bummer
Yeah I was completely clouded out as well :/
We were in Cuatro Cienegas, Cuahuilla, Mexico and had spectacular views! Amazing...
Saw totality from Vermont. That was the coolest thing ive ever seen.
Its incredible how bright it still is up until the last 20 seconds or so
Kicking it with BN, WTG Tim!
Well done, I thoroughly enjoyed the stream. No eclipses for us up here in Northern Europe for another 100 years or so.
Svalbard will get one 20 April 2061 if that counts lol
One in Spain in 2026 though a couple trains away
@@XIIchiron78 I don't think Spain is considered Northern Europe but idk, i'm not from around there
.Love your music Tim!
Thanks for sharing that. I’ve never seen a total eclipse. It was cool to see those little solar flares. Absolutely amazing. I wish I can see it in person.
Sucks you guys had cloud coverage for totality but it's still a really unique experience! I was fortunate enough to be in Maine where we had probably the best weather along the entire path. It was amazing.
Beautiful clouds lovely clouds! 😊 maybe next time!
I was there in Irvine, Dallas Texas…no clouds, wonderful.
Also, we saw Jupiter and Venus
Thank you for streaming this!
I had a wish to come see it (Never ever seen one)
But work related stuff prevented me from flying over to the US to see it.
Thank you for this awesome stream!
Specially at 02:06:10 and forward with the "Big jet if plasma" at the bottom.
thanks tim
I forgot how funny Bill Nye is...crazy funny dude
If only he was half as intelligent as he thinks he is. What a poser 😅
Greetings from Forest Ohio! 🌿🌻 One fantastic total solar eclipse seen here today!!!
I hope that one day we'll get to see another eclipse live stream here - but streamed from space!
Shoot. I was at a state park southwest of Fredricksburg. Wish I had known so I could come by and awkwardly stand around.
It's the "Put your glasses on" show!
That solar prominence was THE money shot!
Cryo ftw
We were in ohio....it was perfectly clear......amazing...
I think your scope footage of the prominences is some of the best out there…
This video shows the problem with having no flexibility in your positioning for a total solar eclipse; the weather and ruining your view of the eclipse. My original plan was to go to the area of Burnet, Texas for the eclipse. But 4 days before the eclipse I could tell that the cloud cover models were not looking good. So I changed my plans, went to my secondary site in Missouri, and had perfect conditions. If you want to see the eclipse that will cross the United States in 2045, learn from this video, and don't obligate yourself to a single observing position.
Bill Nye was in Fredericksburg? Glad we went to NY instead.
So cool that you got to do this with Bill Nye himself!!
Im in Western San Antonio and things just got superdark, like 8
That was so incredible! Amazing stream. Thank you for this amazing gift.
Here in Canada, clear skies, a perfect day.
Not in Ontario.
Yea clear skies up north here (Michigan) cloudy south go figure!😂
Poplar Bluff was perfect. no clouds through totality. 4 mins of darkness.
Very cool. Thank you for sharing.
Totally insane how there's this slither of the sun visible and light conditions are still somewhat normal and it just gets dark as night within seconds.
amazing thanks for sharing.. regards from jelous europe
Beat ya with perfect clear skies in Springfield oh. From my drive way!
Texarkana was cloudy all day until 5 mins before totality. Thanks, God.
So beautiful.
Is there any more live streams coming up? Its the main thing I watch on this channel I wish there was more of them
Starship Flight 4 next week baby!!!
Hey Tim. Hey, would you use your fame and starpower to set up a skydiver with a clear lexan tube about 5% full of liquid and jump out of a plane maybe 10,000 feet up and train cameras on the fluid?
I'd think watching the fluid before and after reaching terminal velocity might be instructive.
This might give some insight into the problems faced in relighting the engines on starship.
Nice view of the Eclipse 😎
Bill Nye: “DON’T FORGET TO PUT YOUR SOLAR FILTER GLASSES BACK ON!!!”
Don't discouny Henry, Bill. He and Farraday were neck and neck with electomagnetism! The unit of inductance, is named the Henry!
wow its Bill nye !!!!!
Unfortunately here in NY, there were too many clouds. And it sucks cause yesterday there wasn’t a cloud in sight
Was like 95% covered here in Michigan dropped like 5 degrees during it cloudless sky thankfully!
What was that red dot on the bottom of the sun.
I was able to see the eclipse only twice during the entire event due to clouds unfortunately (92% coverage from eastern PA)
Did all the green go purple for you as well ?
40 to 60 tons to orbit of this version of Starship? That is less payload than what Falcon Heavy can handle. What will happen to the lunar version then? Will it also come in an extended version?
Could spaceX use overlapping tiles, kinda 3D?
Hate to correct you, but @ 2:05:57, is is a CME, NOT a solar flare . 🙄 That said, great coverage 😎🖖.
thanks to the internet I found what does CME mean, it's Coronal mass ejection.
I live in Virginia so I didn't get totality, but it was still cool.
Hold my beer...
*puts on a welding helmet*
You were saying???
At 2:04:57 you can see a solar flare at the bottom right for just a moment. There's a way to make it rain and get a clear sky for an event "down wind" for a short time.. China has apparently done something like that during the 2008 olympic games - I'm sure that it won't take $30 million to make the sky clear up over a certain area for just a few minutes.
We want your space suit we want your space suit we want your space suit!
Of course, I’ll be in the cold cold ground next time!
So sad to be in the path of totality but have full cloud coverage the whole time :/ At least it got dark!
Could Venus be visible in places with 98 percent totality?
Scrub??
due to weather this was as close as it gets to a scrub :)
yes very eclipse
Hopefully I can witness a total solar eclipse before I die.
I certainly need to travel to a different country because the next that would occure over Germany is gfoing to take a few to many years 2081 for the total eclipse and 2082 for a annulare eclipse. And since I would be close to my 90th in both events I can't really bet that I'm still be living when they're going to occure.
Off Topic
I came across a copy of an old movie from the late '70s.
It was called Salvage, starring Andy Griffith. He was a junk yard operator who built a spaceship to salvage the moon. I double dog dare Everyday Astronaut to watch the movie and debunk the science.
The movie has the address v=3CQFl30jLR4
It is a video tape of the 1979 broadcast.
The ads are a hoot.
I remember that, Salvage One ,
it was entertainingly silly....
Has any body thought about or is any body checking if light bends around the moon as per Einstein's postulation that gravity is doing? Does the moon not have enough space. There are many that the test past the sun can also be caused by plasma around the sun and not gravity at all.
I feel so bad for Tim, he has the worst luck with streaming. Gets hired to stream a launch? Misses the liftoff. Streams a starship launch? Again, issues. Wants to stream an eclipse? It's cloudy.
Give this man some luck🙏🏼
where's mark ?
Могли бы запустить квадрокоптер и поснимать солнце над облаками.
Your audio looks like a Godzilla movie from the 60s.
🔥🤘🔥
I want some europeanean fish people jokes!
MORN MRC SOLAR SYSTEM
Imagine thats what will happen when the sun dies
Oh wow, way to go NOT actually showing the eclipse. WTF?
U cant control the weather tf ?
Don't like phony Bill. I'll skip this one.
Glad I'm not the only one.
Didn't watch dont care dont see the big freaking deal
Bill Nye, talking with authority as though he has any credibility left on matters of science
Bill is obnoxious
We watched it about 10 miles east of Bracketville, TX right in the center. It was amazing. What I thought was Bailey's Beads was a Solar Prominence per your commentary. Will have to check that out.
