I wonder if it's worth pretty much sticking with batocera since I believe it's possible to get PC game runnings on it through proton, even if it isn't as straight forward as steamOS
I know the Deck is definitely under priced, but being $400 makes this a hard sell. I know they have to make a profit, but the Deck really disrupted the market. Great video!
@@gehtdinichtsan309 Pre-order != buy. But yea I'm over the Steam Deck after the delays. I'm tired of pre-ordering and waiting a year or so for a device. This one is available now without pre-ordering. I can order it today and it'll arrive in a couple weeks from China.
Dude, your videos get more and more impressive as you go. The breakdown at the end of this compared to the upcoming devices is exactly what I needed. You're truly a wizard at your craft. Appreciate the amazing content.
Great coverage on Batocera. Really impressed by how well it did with higher-end emulation (even 3DS and WiiU), but you're right, AYA Neo Air Plus will be a much better deal. A year ago, this would have been a done deal.
Perhaps if it had a bigger battery life, and was $250~$300 I might've thought about it, especially since we don't know if AYN and Ayaneo will deliver, but with what we're given, it's a hard sell. I can see myself using one if I had one, but I wouldn't buy one.
The only thing that really stands out about this device is the USB A port; otherwise it's utterly unimpressive IMO. It feels like the only lesson Anbernic learned was "dpad on top= premium" from the RG 350 days, and they've been committed to that ever since, ignoring most ergonomic improvements.
A lot of people rag on the Win600 but in reality it's not a totally bad handheld. I bought the lower spec one and just use it for light steam gaming with older titles. The good thing about this handheld, is the comfort factor in which it doesn't feel like you're holding a mini skateboard (still love the steam deck though). Also instead of you trying to go through hoops to install windows, It's already included on the handheld. I have it, while not better than the steam deck, I still like it. It feels great to play xbox gamepass and ps plus premium on it.
How is the screen compared to the steam deck? I enjoyed the deck but omg the ghosting on the screen and the washed colours made it unusable for me so i just sold it off.
I appreciate this thoughtful review! I'm honestly a little annoyed that the market keeps getting saturated with devices that are this odd overpriced middle ground. It makes it really hard for people new to emulation devices like me, to feel confident in choosing. If I didn't know about your channel I'd be screwed trying to figure it out on my own! It'd be so much easier if the market was easily divisible by budget models, mid-grade models, premium models. I see some comments saying steam deck was underpriced which I actually didn't know, so I can see how that disrupted the market, but aside from that anomaly I think most would agree there's just far too many devices to choose from that often lack essential parts for performance, etc. Just some random two cents. 😅
I think that there are less of these devices! More competion means there will be more value for money. Before there was only gpd and aya which used to sell this over 1200$. Now even with top of the line specs the loki max with 6800u costs only800$. There is more confusion in the pc space
@@shlokshah5379 I guess for someone in my position who grew up gaming on consoles (we had pcs too but weren't super into PC gaming til I got older) it seems like a lot and like it's pretty confusing and convoluted to distinguish between them. It also doesn't make sense to me to compare this to the PC market, this is clearly trying to compete with handheld gaming devices and makes more sense to me to compare it to handheld consoles. PCs have a million different uses outside of gaming which is why it can be so confusing and hard to choose.
Yes but it's a few $100 more. If this can perform x86 retro gaming into the early 00's I think plenty of people would be happy with that plus console emulation. This would be the first affordable x86 retro gaming option, the question is whether it's worth buying this over a $400 laptop depending on the sorts of games you wanna run, and whether the Windows power creep is gonna be so bad that this thing is underpowered in a year as Windows continues to eat up resources. Even less of an issue with SteamOS and Linux support. It's like comparing the Ayn Odin to the Retroid Pocket - definitely different units for different users.
@@Lilacs4 honestly I don’t know what you ended up buying but getting the base steamdeck for $400 plus tax and then 500 Gb as for more games is the perfect expierience besides making a 400 dollar pc for steam os and then getting a retro controller
Thank you thank you thank you for the comparisons. That last few minutes were so helpful. Still going to wait for my Steam Deck and my Loki. However the air looks very tempting. As always, an amazing video!
Reality check, guys: I ordered Ayn Odin back in January and Steam Deck a full YEAR AGO and still haven’t received either! However, I WAS able to get one of these within 10 days of ordering. There’s nothing wrong with buying a device that is attainable from a manufacturer that knows what it’s doing to keep its supply chain operating efficiently! If I EVER get my Steam Deck I’ll just re-sell the Win600 on eBay and probably make a bit of a profit. This strategy has worked very well for me in the past.
I think this is the realistic application of the win600: a stopgap. Play around with it while waiting for a more powerful device, then sell it afterward. It's just simply not worth the price tag as a main device.
I love my Odin but was leaning Air Plus for the 1215U, I had no idea AYN added the 1215u as an option till this video, placed my order for Loki right away!
If you didn't want to pay $400 for the 50e then you could of got the 300 dollar one if you really want one. Or just get a steam deck that is actually justified paying over a couple hundred bucks.
Price sucks but I'm sure there will be discounts later on. The real deal breaker for me is the lack of an SD card slot. What other devices reviewed in the past 2 years doesn't read SD cards? Crazy.
Buddy boy the steam deck and the rog ally dont have an sd card slot either so what did you not see how easily you can change the storage on the win600 😂😂
This batocera demo was really helpful. If I were choosing today between Odin and Win600, I would choose the latter. The fact that I already own an Odin makes it a bit tougher choice. Kinda curious if battery life is still two hours for emulation gamecube and older. Also wish I knew if the weaker model was still good for those consoles. Oh well, time to think.
That’s an expensive device comparing it to a steamdeck which is further developed and finetuned. The steamdeck also has a lot of options for emulation or running windows. Still I’m glad to see there are still new devices being added to the list!
The catch there is that the Steamdeck isn't available worldwide, so it's not even an option for a lot of people. Kind of seems like Anbernic is aware of this and thinks they can get away with charging more for a weak system because there aren't many other choices for people outside the US.
@@Mars0War well I think the biggest thing is that ambernic just can't afford to loose money on their umpc unlike valve which is why the deck will always have a higher price to power ratio unless they do some serious production magic
It's a little big - passed on the 552 for the same reason - but the main reason I'm not ordering one right now is that analog stick placement. IMO the main purpose of this thing isn't the early-system emulation, there are lighter and cheaper devices for that, but the Steam gaming. That means using the analog sticks a lot. The placement/ergonomics of those are a make-or-break factor for an x86 handheld. It's important to recognize that battery life on a x86 handheld is always going to be a trade-off against size and performance. I'd rather have a smaller device, and that means I'd have to use it plugged in a lot. That's just the fact of x86, none of the other devices are going to be any better without also being much thicker and heavier. That's not Anbernic's fault, that's just how it is.
I kind of want one, looks awesome. And the price sucks BUT that price might be the one thing that'll keep it in stock, unlike the Deck and Odyn and every other better spec handheld that you just can't buy right now.
The moment i found out the price I know Anbernic screwed it up (again). I was expecting pricing ranging from USD250~300 depends on the configuration, not hitting USD400 for the higher end. Obviously Steam Deck is a better pick at that price range.
Where do you think we are heading towards? First we had the opendingux era were all OEMs were tweaking their devices and searching their main goal. Then we had the "RK3326" where OEMs were just working with what they had, so they tried to compete just with price and ergonomics. We had some devices where this wasn't the norm, so they became kinda trend setters, like the OG RP2 and TrimUI or the V90, so OEMs were still trying to do something different. Then we had the Android era (sweet but short), with some Android devices like the RP2+ and Odin, but then users faced the fact that this hobby wasn't just pick up and play and you needed to set up everything first. But the Steam deck was announced and now we are into the Windows era, where we still need some know-how to set up everything and most likely what you learned previously will fall short because you will need to know more. OEMs are most likely going to battle with price, but CPUs are not cheap so they will try to cut corners again, like what happened with the RAM on this case. So some are going to battle with specs, but we will have so many options on a niche, when that happens usually some not going to be able to keep up they will try to find their base again, so I expect that some experimentation will happen. But the companies that know what to release to attack one specific user base will probably endure, the same that go only for price (like powkiddy). So, what do you think will happen? What will happen after the Windows era? I'd love to hear your thoughts. We will see products that will aim to go outside the niche?
I'm hoping we get a wave of RK3588 devices, because that chip is quite amazing compared to all other Rockchips. I do hope we continue to get devices that ship with a lightweight Linux like Batocera or EmuElec. Not everything needs a full Windows or Android OS. Having one just increases the RAM requirements really significantly. I actually hope Windows handhelds are a niche within a niche, and don't become dominant in this space. I feel the same about SteamOS actually. We don't need Microsoft or Valve controlling the OS that's used for open handhelds IMO.
the next wave is definitely handheld pcs considering all the really powerful SoCs coming out soon. We just need more major players to get into it like razer / msi so we wouldn't have to rely so much on the Chinese market.
I'd just be happy with another anberelec os device powerful enough to run up to switch. I don't really need to play any windows games. I prefer using my PC for that... and I just hate using a mouse with a gamepad. I mean, it's a personal opinion of course, but I think even Valve understands that their OS's interface has to be friendly and user-ready or dummies-proof. I just don't understand Android devices having to set everything up, and not to mention using the mouse with an analog because the lack of touch screens for example. So the future for me ideally would be something like batoceta, anberelec, retrobat... (emulation station interface) with mixed content like SteamOS, the ability to check retroachievements, screenshots and even online servers to join friends on good retro games within the interface without diving into RA. 👍
For a long time I thought that Anbernic had hit rock bottom with the RG552 due to the bad and unthought-out ergonomics of the handheld (shoulder buttons). But with the Win600, Anbernic has managed to repeat the SAME mistake with the bad ergonomics (using the stick and operating the shoulder buttons at the same time) and as if that wasn't bad enough, in my opinion Anbernic also demands a much too high and very cheeky one Price for the service offered. It almost seems to me as if Anbernic is trying to compensate for their previously unachieved sales and profit targets with each additional product through an even poorer price-performance ratio. And that WITHOUT even paying attention to the most important point of all: THE BUYER 🤷♂️ That the buyer really has a good feeling with the handheld in the end and that especially in relation to a reasonable and fair price. Anbernic has achieved this goal with the RG351 series. Now Anbernic only draws attention to embarrassing actions against Taki Undo. This is a very weak signal from Anbernic. Thanks for the effort 👍
I like the form factor of this more than the Steam Deck, and I get that this device is going to be more easily obtained by a number of people, but still, I agree with you in being surprised it'd be priced where it's at. If this were 350, even, that'd make this a lot more intriguing as an option, but yeah, I think I'll need to pass on this for the time being. I do still hope it does well, though, competition is good.
Thanks Russ, placed an order for myself. I live in a region that does not have Steam Deck availability yet. Intending to use this as an immediately purchasable first step towards the world of PC handhelds. Expect to replace this down the road with an AYN or the elusive Steam Deck, so I'll enjoy what I can get my hands on for now. For those comparing prices, a 64GB variant Deck in my local grey/reseller market goes up to 5 times the cost of a win600. (Yes, I can get scalped for 1800usd thereabouts if I wanted to.)
Even some of its flaws and the somewhat higher price tag I ordered one because something that is rarely mentioned is the availability of these handhelds. The Ayn Odin is better in every way - except if you missed out on the (at the time, sketchy looking) crowed funding campaign you are waiting months and months for your order to ship. If you are like me and have a Steamdeck reservation in Q3 it might as well just wait for for my Steamdeck. All of the other options are either sold out or sells out almost instantly even if you try and get them ASAP. The options that are actually in stock are extremely expensive super high end handhelds. To give you an idea of how hard it is to get these things - tried to get an Ayn Odin second hand they easily get to $800-$1000 on the second hand markets if you find them. It is insane. The reason it is priced like it is, is because it has a decent form factor, decent specs, you can buy it with it shipping NOW, and it is under $500. I wanted something to hold me over until I got my Steamdeck and this was the only option I could get now without breaking the bank.
I dont blame you. I was looking at the Loki Zero but who knows when any of them will be actually available. Id guess by mid next year latest. But again, who knows. So Im looking at the cheaper 3020e model. Plenty of power for my needs (emulation with Batocera). Yeah the left stick isnt the best position and theres no micro sd cart slot and battery life isnt great (seems true with any X86 handheld though). But hey, at least you can buy them now.
Man, I really love your channel. Your production quality and commitment to detail is so good. Even though I know I'm not in the market for this $400 device I still find these videos really interesting. Keep it up dude!
I want to get this myself but still on the wall about it, I enjoy mobile gaming more then console or sitting at my PC but spending over $1000 for any of the other two I am on the fence about (Steam Deck, AyaNeo) & would love this to be as best as it can be until I decide to fork out a weeks pay on the others. I like that you took it apart & did a thorough review deep diving into it all! The insides are the most important to myself I have never seen an SSD so small! Awesome review!
In the future, I hope you can include some Retro PC Games in your tests! As a 90s and 00s PC games player, I think especially with this kind of device (I pre-ordered an AYN Loki Mini Pro) I'm most excited to jump into games like the Jedi Knight Series, Liero, Soldat, C-Dogs, Worms Armageddon and Deus Ex!
For me, it's a $200 device that I pay $400 for, up front, and then get $200 back when an upgrade comes along and I sell the Win600 second hand. And for $200, it's totally worth it to have a new toy to tinker with now! And sure, in theory AYN and AYA have better devices coming out in about 6 months. But then how long will the back orders be? How long until you actually get that device in your hands? Another 3 or 4 months? If you're lucky.
Really balanced and detailed review Russ! I’m sort of tempted to try out the 3020 for $299 since my use case is as an upgrade to my RG503 for emulation plus low end PC Gamepass and PC indie games that have been a pain to get working on my steam deck. The battery life and analog stick placements are the biggest hurdles for me aside from the price. But as you said, having something that will ship soon is a major plus. Guess I’ll sleep on it till July 5th!
To say that I rabbit holed this channel since around... Christmas or so, and am now putting ArkOS on my recently obtained RG351P, this is where it ends up. A steam deck alternative and emulation into the harder stuff. Thanks again for all the videos, much appreciated.
Soo I have this hand held and mine over heats like fast and also I’ve tried to download a game from steam and it keeps crashing why is that ? Would you know ?
I told you all there was no way it would start at less than $299. That is nit the Anbernic way. They are flexing with the strong supply chain and rabid core fanbase. They now it will sell enough right away as nothing else is available worldwide at that price range. All other handhelds are two to three months away for general availability.
Thats what I was thinking when I saw that. Ive never seen 1920x720 so it made me go "huh! " lol So yeah, pretty sure this device is not 1920x1080 (without looking it up) its 1280x720 making it a 720P screen. 😊
That would be considered a RAM overclock not adjusting the timings. Tightening the timings themselves could result in better performance though. A slower ram with tighter latency can result in much better results generally as long as the ram frequency isn't drastically lower. Of course, the "die" on the RAM itself can vary stick to stick even in the same kit so adjusting the timings isn't generally advised unless you know how good the kit is or what they can be run at. Thaiphoon Burner is a great tool to figure out what die the memory has and can be used with the Ryzen DRAM Calculator to learn how to tighten the timings.
yeah. i cringed when he said he would "adjust the timings" and then proceeded to simply raise the frequency while leaving all the actual timings on automatic
The sale went live and I ordered mine. look forward to seeing it soon. Like I commented before, plan to play mostly indies when I don't feel like sitting at my PC to play games. I even wonder a bit on how well streaming higher end games from my PC will run.
@@QmOt89 unfortunate that steam deck isn't available. I just don't like the large of a device. I do traveling for photography and staying at locations, something with my games on it that a bit slimmer would be nice. Yeah price isn't great, but I can buy it and maybe play it soon. Also I order that high end steam deck and started to regret it later on.
For Xbox emulation looks like it’s using xemu. Reason fps looks slower than it says is because what your using won’t read it correctly because it’s seeing the emulated screen it creates within xemu. Xemu has a fps counter in debug>video but i never used that os so idk if you can access that.
Powkiddy has been suspect quiet lately. I thought they were in the works for the X28 windows handheld as well. There's so many handhelds coming out it's quite overwhelming
In terms of SteamOS support, I do think that they are currently collaborating with Valve, but I don't think that the SteamOS version that they provide right now is a result of that collaboration. To me, the SteamOS support seems half baked for this device, almost as if they just used the Holo ISO.
I tried to order the 3050e version and it just won’t allow me to. Also, is the analog stick placement that bad? I would want to play some FPS on this. If it’s that uncomfortable, it may be a deal breaker.
I’m not a huge fan of none replaceable ram, but I understand what you mean and why it could work. But if there was soldered, I’d guess they would have put in 4gb and put a 4gb stick in. And then if you were to upgrade, to say 12gb, it wouldn’t run in dual channel.
Does it come with games pre-installed or do I need to install them myself? Sorry for asking lol. Just trying to buy my first handheld and don't know what to get so found my way to your channel. So am asking because I am a complete beginner to this!
It comes with windows 10 installed. Just like if you would buy a windows PC, thats it. You would have to set up and add everything yourself. I suggest check RetroGameCorps older videos for smaller handhelds that some come with pre installed games, if thats what you are after. Also depends on what systems you want to play/emulate.
3:36 showed the pricing for the 3050e after that 48 hours going from $374.99 to $499.99. Do you believe it is just labeled wrong in their website or will that be the actual pricing? If we assume the website is right and it isn't $399.99, how does that change your overall view of the device
can the cpu be over clocked? I fully purchased a Loki max but. It's hard to wait for it but. now watching your video I'm backing out getting this win600 I'm not impressed. I'm just going to keep waiting for my Loki max.
1. For those PC games testing that have no additional information tagged like bioshock, are they at 720p default/medium settings? Would be good if resolution+setting can be tagged in future videos for all PC games testing. 2. Any significant difference in battery life when playing 2d games like Celeste compared to 3d game/emulation? Some was saying even 2d indies games only 2 hour battery life which sounds real bad. Can 2d indie be played smoothly with tdp capped to 10W or below? At full pricing ($399), this thing even makes the 499 Aya neo air Lite looks worth buying.
We're really going to have to stop comparing these prices to the deck unless they can start getting them to people within a year of ordering. It's kind of like chasing a unicorn at this point.
Lol, there's no stopping all the steam deck fanboys. They keep bringing up the $400 price tag for a 64GB system and assume you can install lots of games on it. Adding a branded 1GB microSD or M.2 card will bring the price to beyond $500++ which they failed to mention. Plus imho the steam deck is way too big to be considered a handheld with the length at almost 30cm long.
@@acejon2162 Yeah, it seems so. There's no way I would buy a win 600 at this kind of price, either, but at least nobody is lying about it. The deck is just too big to be worth it for most emulation, because you can do it on something at least half the size, like an Ayn Odin
First, congrats Russ on your retirement, hope you'll get a nice vacation soon! I completely agree on this device's biggest issue - the price. I'm not going to suffer in any way if I have to wait another year for something decent to land at the right price - I am going to suffer spiritual pain though if I feel like the company has sheered me like a sheep. OK, so I'm exaggerating a little, but I'm not going to buy a device like that. As for the single channel ram, honestly I think they made it that way because they made it socketable. Their engineers had to know how much performance that zen cpu and, even more, that integrated gpu will lose, no way they didn't know it. Wouldn't be bothered about running it at 2666, unless bios is overvolting and overheating it. Which it shouldn't do.
Yes, the Batocera USB that I am using also works in my PC (I did a lot of the setup on PC, actually). You will have to rotate the screen every time you switch between the two, but otherwise it's pretty seamless.
Thanks for the video Russ. I'm currently setting up my Odin Pro with LaunchBox on a 1TB SD, so I'm now wondering, if solely for emulation, would you rather get an Odin Pro or a Win600? And which one is generally faster, more powerful?
Thanks so much for the video!! The price is high indeed, but again like you said - it's available now with all its flaws unlike the other comparison devices you have mentioned in the video with so many unknown. Considering its price & use case, i might just buy the lower priced 3020e. That should satisfy me until SteamDeck is available here in Australia. Thanks again for the video!! So so so helpful!!! 🙏
Trying to find a console that will allow me to play certain retro games. Which version of Anbernic would be the best to purchase for the games listed below?: • Mortal Kombat games 1-4 • Street Fighter games 1-3 • Power Stone 1 & 2 • Dark Cloud • Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3 • Mace: The Dark Age • Super Mario Bros 1-3, and Super Mario World • Wario Land 1-4 • Bomberman 64 • Super Mario 64 • Diddy Kong Racing
Hmm. Just noticed these Loki upgrades. I preordered the Intel Loki Pro. I mainly want to just emulate up to PS2 (probably at 2x resolution). Are the upgrades necessary for that? The upgrades bump up the price by $110 which is quite a bit. Edit: After a little digging around like the upgrades will probably be worth it in general.
will you be exploring adding steam (and windows games in general) to batocera (for x86/x64 devices) in future? Wonder how practical it will be or will it just be too many frustration/drawbacks with peformance/compatibility.
Great video, it sold me to order on day one & 6 days later had it in my hands in the UK. Interested in upping the ram to a 3200mhz. Would going 16gb be worth considering vs the 8gb? Love all your videos I'm a big fan in your honesty & deep dives into what these devices can achieve.
I need your advice. I’m ready to reduce my collection to make room. However, I want to backup my collection beforehand. I am not tech and not interested in learning how to setup an emulation machine. For this reason, I am kin of interested in the polymega. It is stupidly expensive but the larger issue is it is not readily available. That is too much money to have on the line for that long and hope it shows up within a couple years. Not to mention I don’t want to wait that long to make room and lighten collection. I have a retro freak, which I can’t recommend enough but it is somewhat limited on systems it covers. It does not play nes or n64 (which is coming to polymega soon). But the games I want to lighten the most are disc games because they will all wind up with disk rot eventually. I’ve considered buying a Chinese preloaded emulation box but I my understanding is they all have problems (do you know of one you recommend?) What is your opinion of polymega? And do you recommend any other solutions/have other ideas?
Hehehehe, I basically nailed it on the price. And it's exactly as I feared. I really wish this were a worthy product, but I've moved past Anbernic at this point. Can't wait for my Loki 6600u and Aya Neo 2 Geek 6800u.
@@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude I've got a steam deck, an Odin, an Aya neo 2021 pro, a laptop with a 3080, a series s and x, a PS5, three switches, a GPD Win3, a OneXPlayer, and a bunch of other handhelds and systems. I'll survive.
Damn bro im about to cop a orginal rog ally Wednesday i like this one but i dont like where the analogs are is it comfortable playing cod dbz sparking zero etc?
Awesome coverage on this device!~ I also put in an order for the Loki Zero, since that dual channel RAM is going to be massive here and the price point is 10x more attractive. Waiting's gonna suck though... Also, I just wanna comment on one thing - that Intel chip (1215U) is NOT going to be as good for gaming as you might think. The UHD graphics aren't all that capable and with these devices we are definitely running into a GPU bottleneck instead of a CPU one, so you won't see much of a practical performance gain. There are videos on YT that demonstrate that a Vega 3 APU (like the 3050e) is pretty much on-par with a 12th gen Intel chip at way higher TDP levels. Windows handhelds using Intel chips will turn out to be a trap, lemme tell ya~ The upcoming AMD Mendocino architecture on the other hand... If it's not much more expensive, it should give a nice little performance boost, especially with that LPDDR5-6400 RAM and RDNA2 GPU. Shouldn't cost more than 300$ though, because we're getting too close to the Steam Deck otherwise.
The problem that i have with these kind of devices is that they just straight arent available anywhere. Reviewers all talk about them etc but they are all still not available unless you preorder something i dont want to do cause i want to wait for the reviews first. Lots of talk about windows handhelds but no handhelds to buy...
The 3050e is now usd $350 and 9 months on theres still no Loki models available and the zero is now listed for usd $250.(still $100 cheaper than the 3050e yes, but again, not available as yet). The aya neo plus is now also over twice as much as shown at the end of this video. The fact the win600 also comes with windows would of added to its price too dont forget. Btw, the 3020e version is no longer in production.
PLEASE I KNOW THIS A YEAR OLD BUT IM STUCK!!! DO I NEED TO FORMAT MY SSD 1 TB OR SHOULD IT JUST WORK? CAUSE WHEN I TRY TO ENTER IT IT SAYS NO INTERNAL DEVICE 😭😭🥺 PLEASE HELP ME
I'm not buying this, clearly AYN has a much more compelling offering, but it definitely gave me a lot of insight. I'm still waiting on seeing what Mendocino is capable of. I know it won't be a powerhouse, but I'm hoping it's going to be capable of some competent light PC gaming and maybe a bit better than that.
This video has opened my eyes to Batocera. It's mind bogglingly better for emulation.
me too!
The phawx didn't know about batocera. That's a good one.
The difference isn’t usually this stark, but I’m very thankful for it!
I still can't justify getting this but Batocera took it from no way in hell to a serious consideration (even if only a short one).
I wonder if it's worth pretty much sticking with batocera since I believe it's possible to get PC game runnings on it through proton, even if it isn't as straight forward as steamOS
One thing im very impressed, not Win600 related, is how good batocera has become! Ill have to set up a USB stick with it!
I know the Deck is definitely under priced, but being $400 makes this a hard sell. I know they have to make a profit, but the Deck really disrupted the market. Great video!

You must make a video about all the pc emulator!
This is why the Switch will continue to sell well, possibly for another five years
I suppose bad GG battery vibes are a little better than Turbo Express or Nomad vibes.
I'm excited to see what kind of Batocera machine we'll have a year from now :)
@@RetroGameCorps does batocera support touchscreen (for DS/3ds) on this or similar devices?
@@samh5886 it does not but I’ve been told that it is in the works.

*"AYA Neo Air Plus will be a much better deal."*
Damn, this did not age well... like milk from the Jurassic Period.
Perhaps if it had a bigger battery life, and was $250~$300 I might've thought about it, especially since we don't know if AYN and Ayaneo will deliver, but with what we're given, it's a hard sell. I can see myself using one if I had one, but I wouldn't buy one.
But Ayaneo is almost 3x the price lol
No, your information is outdated. Check out the Aya Neo Air Plus, which was announced recently. It will be much stronger than this and even cheaper.
Same goes for the upcoming AYN Loki.
@@clausjahnel5379 Very interesting. The Loki looks promising but 4gb of ram and the low storage options are eh.
The only thing that really stands out about this device is the USB A port; otherwise it's utterly unimpressive IMO. It feels like the only lesson Anbernic learned was "dpad on top= premium" from the RG 350 days, and they've been committed to that ever since, ignoring most ergonomic improvements.
Well, I hope they don't mind going down as a company. There's only one or two ambernic devices that ever appealed to me and this aint one of em.
@@mdo I would say it's worse on the win 600. Display wise
At $300, I might've thought about it (waiting months for my Odin, along with SteamDeck). But $400? No way.
@@randzopyr1038 Yeah that's really insightful and makes a lot of sense to me, thanks for sharing that perspective!

@@vsm351 I sold my GPD Win 2 in order to get this. Definitely a worthy upgrade. Hopefully I’ll hear from Valve one of these days!!

2 hours of battery life, No Micro SD Card Slot, and sub par ps2 performance. THATS ALL I GET FOR $400?! Yeah thanks but no thanks!
I was about to get this off Facebook marketplace for cheap but didn't know this. Not having micro sd is absolutely stupid and a deal breaker
It's been awhile but the 8GB and 256gb version is about $250 now.
@alexandercatterson223 I'd say it's been while the original comment was over a year ago and your trying to compare the price now?
If you didn't want to pay $400 for the 50e then you could of got the 300 dollar one if you really want one. Or just get a steam deck that is actually justified paying over a couple hundred bucks.
I understand now the prices are a Good bit cheaper but still wouldn't buy this over a steam deck or psvita honestly...
Thank you. I always wondered what "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" meant.
Your so smooth when talking, improvise more on the way and keep up the good job, love your performance bruh.
@@clash_VR yes they do buddy boy
Steam deck also doesn’t exist unless you ordered early
@@Mars0War well I think the biggest thing is that ambernic just can't afford to loose money on their umpc unlike valve which is why the deck will always have a higher price to power ratio unless they do some serious production magic
Taking a Linux handheld and installing Windows on it..... Tsk tsk.
@@blacksamuraisoffendme bro I'd wait 6 months for a steam deck to deliver before I bought this cheap device.
If it wasn't Russ... I wouldve shut the video off after hearing the price tag.
We just need more major players to get into it like razer / msi so we wouldn't have to rely so much on the Chinese market.
problem is they're cutting corners while also charging premium
I hope it opens up MORE Linux devices like the steamdeck itself because f*** windows and bill gates and all that spyware.
Ive been waiting for your review!!! I was reallly wishing the 3050e version was $300. such a shame
It's $375 on their website
There is no competition at this price currently
Early bird sale makes it slightly cheaper too
Yeah no, I wouldn't pay for this when I could get a steam deck for that price.
@@mathisblair2798 can you get one tho? When are you expected to get one from Valve?
Been waiting for this video :) Thanks for such a thorough review.
I ordered a Win600 as well! Got the black 3050 edition.
At the current price of $240 direct from Anbernic for the 3050e 8gb model, is this the best option for a Windows handheld at that lower price point?
Depends where you lived tbh
Here where I lived, brand new steam deck cost 600 dollars so.
I had a Loki Max preordered from day 1, and now in Dec 2022 it seems like it's still so far away that i'm considering picking up a WIN600.
Almost May 2023 and still no Loki models. 😏
Battery issue is definitely the thing aparts me to Win600. It is supossed to be a portable device, a hand-held...

One thing not mentioned is that the Steam Deck can be repaired and you can upgrade parts like the screen later if you get the lower model.

I appreciate all these videos and the work that goes into it all! Thanks so much
Thanks for the review and info on the other console options.
Great review and I hope I get for Christmas this year if don’t get the steam deck for Christmas this year
For me, it's a $200 device that I pay $400 for, up front, and then get $200 back when an upgrade comes along and I sell the Win600 second hand. And for $200, it's totally worth it to have a new toy to tinker with now! And sure, in theory AYN and AYA have better devices coming out in about 6 months. But then how long will the back orders be? How long until you actually get that device in your hands? Another 3 or 4 months? If you're lucky.
I think the price is because you can put the hands on one very soon. All other devices close to this price are pre-order subject to delay.
Great review, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Russ.
Hey Russ, I think you meant 1280x720 not 1920x720 right? Thank you so much for reviewing, as always!
Thats what I was thinking when I saw that.
Ive never seen 1920x720 so it made me go "huh! " lol
So yeah, pretty sure this device is not 1920x1080 (without looking it up) its 1280x720 making it a 720P screen. 😊
Yeah, I looked at the famous Handheld Google Sheet and this handheld does indeed have a 1280x720 (16:9) screen.
Great and detailed Video! Thanks for the review!
Great tips, thanks!
yeah. i cringed when he said he would "adjust the timings" and then proceeded to simply raise the frequency while leaving all the actual timings on automatic
The sale went live and I ordered mine. look forward to seeing it soon. Like I commented before, plan to play mostly indies when I don't feel like sitting at my PC to play games. I even wonder a bit on how well streaming higher end games from my PC will run.

For Xbox emulation looks like it’s using xemu. Reason fps looks slower than it says is because what your using won’t read it correctly because it’s seeing the emulated screen it creates within xemu. Xemu has a fps counter in debug>video but i never used that os so idk if you can access that.

I'm just wondering if Powkiddy or Anbernic have some other Windows handheld coming soon other than their Win600.
Powkiddy has been suspect quiet lately. I thought they were in the works for the X28 windows handheld as well. There's so many handhelds coming out it's quite overwhelming
They confirmed that the Max3 will have a more powerful chip than the RK3566 , guess we'll have to wait and see .

They should have had 8GB Ram soldered with a user upgradable slot of space was a concern.
I’m not a huge fan of none replaceable ram, but I understand what you mean and why it could work. But if there was soldered, I’d guess they would have put in 4gb and put a 4gb stick in. And then if you were to upgrade, to say 12gb, it wouldn’t run in dual channel.
this apu can't play anything requiring more than 8. 6 would probably be plenty actually with steamos.

At full pricing ($399), this thing even makes the 499 Aya neo air Lite looks worth buying.
sometimes it seems like they intentionally wont give us a close to perfect device. why wouldnt this have a SD card slot? thats CRAZY!
I really like your intro and editing.
Thank you!
I wonder if it'd be possible to make a Botocera USB that would work for this and a PC?
Yes, the Batocera USB that I am using also works in my PC (I did a lot of the setup on PC, actually). You will have to rotate the screen every time you switch between the two, but otherwise it's pretty seamless.

Thanks for the video Russ. I'm currently setting up my Odin Pro with LaunchBox on a 1TB SD, so I'm now wondering, if solely for emulation, would you rather get an Odin Pro or a Win600? And which one is generally faster, more powerful?
I have a request for testing these handheld pcs, ffxiii is a pretty intensive game and would be a pretty beefy PS3 port game benchmark.
I just picked one up for $170
From where?
That Metroid dread copy on the table was a smart play.
AMD Silver CPU's only support DDR4-2400. That's why you didn't see any change in performance.
I'd like to know your opinion on the high end PC handhelds, like the ONEXPLAYER, Aya Neo etc. maybe not a review but just your point of view
Which version of Anbernic would be the best to purchase for the games listed below?:
• Mortal Kombat games 1-4
• Street Fighter games 1-3
• Power Stone 1 & 2
• Dark Cloud
• Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3
• Mace: The Dark Age
• Super Mario Bros 1-3, and Super Mario World
• Wario Land 1-4
• Bomberman 64
• Super Mario 64
• Diddy Kong Racing
Wonder how practical it will be or will it just be too many frustration/drawbacks with peformance/compatibility.
loved your review and guide
2:53 I think that should be 1280x720 right? Otherwise that would be far wider than 16:9 😂
Yes, it was a mistake, it should be 1280 instead of 1920, thanks for the catch!
I’ve considered buying a Chinese preloaded emulation box but I my understanding is they all have problems (do you know of one you recommend?)
What is your opinion of polymega? And do you recommend any other solutions/have other ideas?
Hehehehe, I basically nailed it on the price. And it's exactly as I feared. I really wish this were a worthy product, but I've moved past Anbernic at this point. Can't wait for my Loki 6600u and Aya Neo 2 Geek 6800u.
Get ready to wait over a year ill be buying what comes out in a year lol
Windows handhelds using Intel chips will turn out to be a trap, lemme tell ya~
The upcoming AMD Mendocino architecture on the other hand... If it's not much more expensive, it should give a nice little performance boost, especially with that LPDDR5-6400 RAM and RDNA2 GPU. Shouldn't cost more than 300$ though, because we're getting too close to the Steam Deck otherwise.
What version of Lumines were you running? I find 2 Ron’s online that run terrible.
CAUSE WHEN I TRY TO ENTER IT IT SAYS NO INTERNAL DEVICE 😭😭🥺 PLEASE HELP ME
Love the new opening intro music
Can someone share a full version or extended?
I'm not buying this, clearly AYN has a much more compelling offering, but it definitely gave me a lot of insight. I'm still waiting on seeing what Mendocino is capable of. I know it won't be a powerhouse, but I'm hoping it's going to be capable of some competent light PC gaming and maybe a bit better than that.
See you in 2023
