Just found your channel and subscribed straight away really cool stuff! I just moved over to the island myself and its really helpful to get a look at some of the shore fisheries available here. I was was gonna try the sooke basin this coming October, any chance you could give me a recommendation on what lures to use there for targeting chums?
Pretty much any of the standard saltwater lures will work--BuzzBomb, Zzinger, etc.,--but make sure you swap out any treble hooks for single barbless hooks no more than 15 millimetres from the shank to the point. A Mustad barbless 2/0 hook is what I generally use for all my shore fishing. I wouldn't go any bigger than 2 1/2 inch or 1 1/2 ounce for the lures because the water isn't very deep. Crocs work well, too. There is a particular setup that many of the regulars use that I believe cuts down on the number of fish foul-hooked in the back or fins and is more productive than any of the store-bought lures, but I'm not going to set it out here. You will probably pick up on it by yourself or, if you see me on the beach, just ask. Tight lines!
Clearly the fish tried to bit the hook and missed. Fair is foul and foul is fair. If you didn't intentionally foul hook, then it's yours to keep. Deal with it.

@@OldShoreFisherman Thanks so much for the reply! Hope to see you out on the water sometime!
Foul hooked (aka snagged) fish. Shameful.
