A little story behind this song (if you didn't see this from the audio version):
When I was around 10 years old, I watched my teenage brother nurse a wound. He was crying as he soaked his scraped knee with water in the bathtub.
I looked at him with disdain. "Why are you crying?" I asked in annoyance.
I didn't realize it then, but my visceral reaction to his emotional vulnerability reflected something that I had been taught earlier in my childhood: boys aren't supposed to cry.
When I became a young adult, I had a lot of trouble expressing my emotions. I put on a smile for everyone I saw, and avoided talking about anything that would trigger an emotional reaction. When my emotions built up to the point where I couldn’t control them, I would explode. It took a long time to learn how to share my feelings - something that people still consider to be a sign of weakness in men.
I think I’m one of the millions of men out there who’ve been told, at some point in their lives, to repress their emotions. I now understand how emotional repression can lead to a variety of complications in mental health. I wrote this song to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, and to challenge the idea that men shouldn’t show their feelings simply because they are men.
For all the guys out there listening to this song - be vulnerable. Feel your emotions. Share with others how you feel. I think that’s even more manly than being a tough guy.

I listen to it cause I relate to it with my father who taught me not to cry and also my mother they both mentally abused me to the point they refused to let me express my emotions when I was a kid. I wasn't even 7 yet back then and they scolded me whenever I cried or felt anger or any emotion at all

I've always thought about how guys are taught to hold in their emotions. I think it's dumb. They shouldn't have to keep it in. Just because you show emotion doesn't mean you aren't strong or masculine. Nobody should have to hold emotions in.
You can say that all you want but we boys are just too dumb and naive to understand that and even if anyone just tells us this we will most likely laugh it off and you can say it just happens to be in our mind that crying means showing your weakness even if anyone tells us that it is not the case and that is why we need someone on our side whom we can entrust ourselves or else we will eventually breakdown.
@@ivinmathew1826 literally nobody told me and my brothers we can't cry we just don't been that way since we were kids and we got hurt alot back then all of us have at least 2 big scars about 8 to 10 inches long my youngest brother fell off the top of a tree we used to climb ended up with a scar going from just below his belly button all the way past his nipple he didn't cry we helped him home and disenfected the wound he complained but not 1 tear

Thanks so much for this, bro. There is so much stigma around male mental health and it honestly stings really bad at times when you try to search for even a piece of empowering media dedicated to you and find nothing. There only seems to be videos directed towards girls and videos directed towards everyone. In 2020, I only ever cried once. It's now 28th May 2021, and I still haven't shed a tear this year. My average annual cries are sitting at just once or twice in a good year. You'd think I'm hyperbolizing but I assure you this is actually my life. I always have to choke back my tears when I'm about to cry because someone happens to be in the room. I did this so much in my childhood that I may as well be physically incapable of crying now. So thank you again, Rosendale. This is awesome.

I'm a female but I relate so deeply to this song and its' meaning. I've always have issues conveying my emotions other than joy, and often end up pretending to have a good time around other people until I get home. It's been this way for almost exactly 6 years now, ever since my dad passed. Everything has basically been building up inside and every once in a while I'll just let it out and yell, but it's been getting less and less because of living situations and everything has been building up even more because my main outlet isn't really there anymore, yet again, because of living situations and having moved. So everything has been festering inside me, and, every once in a while, when I'm alone in my room, I let myself cry. I just cry for no plausible reason until the tears stop on their own or until I fall asleep. It feels nice.

my dad taught me wrong, he would go "stop crying or ill give you a real reason to cry" the only times I would have the opportunity to cry would be when he would go to work, and even then I only cry in my room so nobody can see me cry, sometimes at school I would just have watery eyes without actually having tears fall, and people would assume I was sick and would just ignore me, resulting in me having no friends and being judged for existing

When I first found this song, I was in a very low part of my life. Even though I'm not that old, (16), this song perfectly describes what I have felt throughout my life. People always to me to suck it up and be a man, and I held back so much pain and emotions, and eventually I buckled under the weight of all it. Thank you for making this song. It's helped me through so many things I have gone through, and helped me realize it's ok to cry and be emotional.

As my boyfriend plays the tough guy card, I broke down in tears for no reason and I went to the bathroom to wash up, as soon as I step out I see him leaning against the Wall and He turns around and sees me, I could see the tears in his eyes As he Pulls me in and hugs me tightly. Both my brothers and myself were brought up thinking that showing emotion was for weak people. My brothers had a rough childhood and I'm just getting out of my shit end of the stick per se. They had drug problems, luckily they are both alive which is saying a lot considering how they were raised. All of us went through a very prolonged state of depression. Don't make that mistake, show your emotions despite any lies that anyone tells you to manipulate you. Not all stories have to end on a bad note. When listening to this I can't help but think about the people I have met who told me how they were taught not to show emotions or show vulnerability. It's sad how people can't be open minded sometimes and accept each other for who they are. It is also hard to think about if you aren't fitting a picture your community or family wants, they hold it over your head as if you're a let down.
This song is really good ma dood, well done. It really reminds me of something that my brother told me when I was younger. He told me that I shouldn’t cry unless it bleeds.... thank my man, you’ve really inspired me with this song. Keep up the great work

I just want to say something... Boys and girls, are so different, but we're all humans, we fell, we touch, we have emotions. We're physically different, but inside, WE'RE THE SAME THING. I understand that, cuz I have so many friends boys, and they cry when they feel bad or they can't take it anymore, sometimes, I'm they support, cuz sometimes I feel bad too.

No but as the oldest who had to help raise my little brothers biting my tongue and holding my breath is what I did all the time so my bros wouldn't see me hurting, but I told them to never let anyone tell them to hide there feelings! To scream, cry, and if you have to run and cry and let it out cause that is what makes you strong. Man.. even though I'm a girl I understand that boys also have it tough. Like recently my teacher asked our class to make a research about "Gender Equality" but when I searched it up, it was all about women rights. Like, come on! Gender equality means both genders to be treated fairly not just girls. I hope more people understand that boys also have feelings.
