Loving my fold 5. Don't think i could go back to a normal phone
I loved my fold4 also. Hopefully yours is long lasting
I have the 4 and it's been well over a year and all I have to do is replace the screen protector that's it no issues and I bought my wife the 5 I feel the same way I won't go back to a regular smartphone either
Problem with foldable displays is that they are not meant to stay in the fold state but on the unfolded.
Isnt it weird that ALL ship on the box as open and not folded? Doesnt this consume more space on logistics? Yes but they choose it.
Other devices have nessages to keep it open such as mate xs when not in use.Because permanent plastic deformation occurs and display splits.Put in the equation the screen protector that adds tension..and the steep internal angle of the screen in folds..the lack of movement due to fold and unfold..and voila.
Good analysis. It seems, as in one of the other comments, that there's strong correlation between the protective cover coming loose and screen damage. For me that was less than 2 days. Samsung needs to warn customers of this! Instead they rely on folks like you and me to let the public know, pathetic.
@@rejjie_DIY when market department makes decisions over engineers these happen. Maybe it was better to have a tablet size device that folds to cary around despite a phone that unfolds for like half hour a day and the rest 23h is folded like a regular phone.
I believe they are aware of the problems. Just watch the gap on the hinge that took 5 generations to close. Huawei chose opposite fold and then invented the teardrop shape to gain some free curvature space instead of a paper type fold in half implementation.
And of course the no1 manufacturer apple doesnt have any fold type device yet! Simply because they have a really huge client base and not the tech-savy ones that respect and know how to handle a device like this..then things would be really difficult.
Nice tip
most common problem with foldable is the flex cable breaking in 1 to 2yrs pretty much inevitable due to current technology. 2nd is the hinge gears getting jammed by debris. the inner screen problems are easily preventable such as what happed with yours if you just replaced the lifted screen protector the moment there is a lifting it will not get crushed in the middle of the screen when folded that why your screen is dead
Great pointers. 👍 if only I spoke to you before !!!
I have for 4 years my z fold 2, and never had a single problem wirh any of the components, i think your case is because you left that protectort fill get bubles, i remove it and never had a problem
I think you're right. However Samsung shouldn't release a foldable phone that is susceptible to this problem and not educate their customers to avoid destroying their phone.
i'm on my third replacement since i bought my z fold 4. 1st removed screen protector after nine months because of bubbling, cracks started to appear soon after on the crease from the top. straight to repairs as i had same issue on the fold three, i new what to look for! 2nd, gear mechanism in the hinge failed so device wouldn't open fully. samsung replaced the frame again which comes with a new screen and battery very happy, 3rd my fault bag run over by a car, long story fell off motor cycle whilst stationary, got a replacement frame as device would only open 90 degrees .new battery, screen again. samsung offered an extra 2 yr warranty in the uk at the time of purchase ,and free samsung care. i luv you samsung but your z fold 4 is good and crap at the same time.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you got support for 3 phones! But as you point out, a product shouldn't force customers such pain and suffering.
My z fold 3s Hotspot and wifi stopped working 22 days before the warranty expired and luckily Samsung fixed it by replacing the whole inner screen and since then the screen works perfect. Love my z fild 3 and I am a heavy user the screen gers used for hours everyday to watch videos and no problems what so ever. I have insurance though on the phone in case ifvitcbeaks down. I'm paying 5$ a month.
Nice to hear things worked out for you! In part 2 of this series I have a few pointers that might be of use to you ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
1 year 4 months. My inner screen is still in perfect working condition, but the flex cable has given up, leaving me with the black screen of death problem many others have reported. As soon as I open the device it will lock up and become unresponsive until I force a reboot. Repair cost ? Same as yours, 761$. The flex cable doesn't come seperate from the inner display+battery+frame.
Sorry to hear. Samsung dropped the ball on this one
Thanks for sharing
People recommend to remove the protection film ASAP when it starts to peel off. Otherwise you will black spots
That sounds like really good advice. For me it was less than 2 days that the damage to the screen happened.
@@rejjie_DIY as they say, the air bubble when folded puts increased pressure on the flexible screen at the bending point and the hinge ruins the screen.
This is theain reason ehy you had problems! I removed mine on my z fold 2 and 4 years and phone is still working perfectly
I took my screen protector 4 months ago after i saw bubbles, screen looks and functions fine
Good move @Legiey
I replaced the inner screen protector myself with one I got off Amazon as soon as I saw the original lifting in the middle. I'm over a year in now and the replacement works great.
@@demus89 Good move! I wish I had done it earlier. I even ordered the screen, but by the time it arrived, my inner screen went dead :(
I've had mine for over a year and the only thing I have to do is replace the screen protector otherwise it's been an amazing phone
That's great to hear. I wish I could say the same. From the research I've done, you may want to avoid using in cold weather. A few other pointers here: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Mine is fine and I've had it about 15 months now I think. The only slight issue is the hinge is getting a little loose.
I'll be posting a video shortly with my suggestions and those collated from multiple viewers for Foldable users that still have working units. Stay tuned.
That's how it begins, my man.
Fold 4 screen problem happens just within 8 mth after purchase. The whole screen was glitching and soon after, the phone just became unusable. Froze up. After the repair, screen problem happens AGAIN after 2 month. A spot on the screen. Damn, do Samsung think I got time for this? Expensive phone but what if this problem comes back after warranty. Totally unacceptable. Love the phone, but the technology is not there yet.
Thanks for sharing. That's exactly why I don't plan to fix my phone and switch to a nonfoldable. Good luck on yours!!
Sorry I should have mentioned that I purchased a pristine condition Samsung 3 fold Super mint condition... the previous owner never used it much. After carefully testing it I was super happy with it hoping that I would get at least 2 years out of it boy was I wrong. Had it less then 2 months. I think what people should do is if they see the crease start immediately removing the protective screen cover as that only makes the screen get worse.
Samsung needs to step it up!
I wouldn't even buy it even if they come to my house to fix my screen free of charge. A multi thousands dollars device shouldn't constantly worry me with its fragility.
@user-ff5ch7tv3f you are 100% correct! I couldn't believe how many others have had this same problem, see part of my video here: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Same issue but worse the black on my screen is huge and covers top to bottom about a 1/4 of screen. 10 days out of warranty. I also had several other issues with the phone over the year. Called my carrier about them many times.
To troubleshoot the issues I had to call on a different phone but I don't have a 2nd phone.
This was the 2nd phone they sent me because many issues with the 1st one so they replaced it after a month of having it. I think they are all pos or lemons! Samsung told me I would have an out of pocket cost to repair it.
My carrier told me samsung is aware of the issue of the screen fold and is repairing them. She said to call them back again and tell them what she told me. I called and was told the same thing that there will be a charge. I got angry and said I am going to look for an attorney and have it taken care of that way. That was 2 weeks ago and only found possible class action and submitted my story for them to determine if they can do something for me. So that is where I am.
Thanks for sharing. There are so many others with this problem, a class action would be great if you can organize!
Same thing happened to me! These phones are too expensive to stop working the way they do. It should be illegal for them not to have to fix something that they failed on.
My fold 3 and 4 both developed hair line cracks through the centre of the main screen.
Samsung simply told me it was my fault and not covered under warranty.
Never bought another fold again
Really unfortunate. I've also given up on Foldable phones from Samsung. My next phone is going to be a non-foldable. Sadly probably a Samsung S+
The same problem is happening... Two dots at the point of refraction of the screen and no longer dare to use. The phone was exposed to sand and so it went...
It seems the screen is hypersensitive to irregularities which becomes a problem when the screen protector comes loose. See comment in thread from @stancal9680.
Samsung foldable is not worth buying, both of my fold 3 got this kind of problem.
Most of the time,it started after the update. As for now,my daily driver is the Huawei Mate X3, and it's almost a year now. For every software update, I don't see any problem like Samsung fold. Hopefully this Huawei Mate X3 phone can last longer .
My Z fold 4 still in good condition until now
I agree with you. I've uncovered more issues and details in part of this video, see here: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Oh I can’t wait for part 2!
Part 2 is ready for you! ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.htmlsi=dI7eMJNcY2aUnJDv
I have the z fold 4, I hope that doesn't do that to me. Mines has not paid off yet. Had it for almost 3 months now
@annmarie4736 if you still can, I would highly suggest buying the extended warranty from Samsung. Also, if the inner screen starts to bubble up, bring it in asap to samsung to replace. I'm working on a new video summarizing some of the research i've uncovered.
My Z4 had the same problem not too long ago. Is there any Class Action that we can join for this issue?
I'll be posting a video shortly on this topic. Subscribe to my channel for updates
happened to me also but it was 18 months old. never dropped it just a random thing in the middle started poking thrugh the screen and they blamed me...
Yeah same thing for many of us. Frustrating!!
This is my fear with the 5 so I've taken out extra insurance just in case
Yes most definitely, but quite expensive. If I were to consider a fold in the future, I would also consider outright purchase (vs installments) to get the added insurance provided by credit cards.
Samsung care would have solved it
I agree. EVERYONE should buy Samsung Care extended warranty. They shouldn't have to, but for Samsung foldables unfortunately they should. Other pointers I've discovered here in part of this series: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
I had a fold 3 for just about a year and a half. I babied that phone and got the same issue...I'm not going back to a fold, again..I have an s23 ultra now and I'm not going back to a fold, again.....
I wish I saw your post before I bought mine
@darrin173, because my fold is broken, I've switched back to an older non foldable phone. And I have to say the larger screen (vs fold front screen), is really nice. Larger easier to read, thinner and lighter. What great non foldable features lol
@rejjie_DIY don't get me wrong, i loved the fold 3, it was great when I had it, I loved the big screen. I just can't see me getting another one again, I had an s20 ultra as a back up until I got my s23 ultra( love the SD card slot). I just expect for the money we spend on a folding phone, that it would last for more than a year and a half....
i have same situation also middle bubble and when close like sound of crack of screen protector.. people say remove the screen protector ..but when i pull it it become more worst.. so dont trust people... i try it all black in the end
Thanks for the feedback. I'd say don't trust Samsung instead. People are trying to help mitigate as best they can a problem that Samsung should fix. Weather removing the inside screen protector sooner rather than later helps or not, the root problem should be addressed by Samsung.
@@rejjie_DIY it was good phone and tablet ...but when it come problem like this is really cost to much.. and the battery have 2 pcs.. i already buy 3 times battery non are good like the old original battery..
Samsung needs to step up the customer service😤😤
Yes!!
The same thing has happened to my phone too 😭
Are you going to spend to have it repaired? Thanks for sharing.
@@rejjie_DIY I'm going to reach out to Samsung and see if they will repair it. I'd prefer not to spend anything to be honest. I'm hoping they will repair my phone under warranty.
I have exactly the same issue with my Samsung fold 4. However, it spread to about an inch wide.
Sorry to hear. Samsung confirmed they won't do anything to address. Want us to pay $750 for repair.
Im using the fold 2 still no problems
Best of luck with your Fold2, hope it lasts for you!
@@rejjie_DIY tnx don't have anymore got a s24 ultra
Same issue my fold 4 had problems with the hinge on the 12th month
Sorry this happened to you too @hueq. I'm thinking to take Samsung to court....
The same thing just happened to my fold 4
Hopefully warranty will cover you.
Same issue.. my phone is under warranty but they refused for repair for free
That's really unfortunate. Sorry to hear. How much is Samsung charging you?
Same problem faced twice exactly same
Did Samsung cover the repair under warranty?
@@rejjie_DIY sir they did repaired it under wArranty but now its out of warranty , and they want 53000 inr indian rupee, problem started with screen protection coiming out.
I have a few newer phones that got those black dots...all of my old phones frm like 2019 are fine...
I think they using bad quality led lights
Probably true. But for Foldable phones, it's even worse. That folding crease causes additional strain on the screen and reliability goes way down. I found more info, see part of the video here: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Currently, im dealing with these issues. All of a sudden, this happened
Yeah really unfortunate. Samsung really dropped the ball
I AGREE WITH SEEING ! I AM WORKING ON IT TO BUY FOLD 3 OR 5 AND INSPITE OF A LOT OF USERS WHO ARE SATISFEID WITH PHONES I STILL DOUBT ABOUT DURABILITY OF FOLDABLE PHONES LIKE Z FOLD, SO LIKE YOU SAID, THIS TECHONOLOGY ISNT MATURE YET !
THUMB UP BRO, AND SHAME ON SAMSUNG TO AVOID REPAIR ON THIS ISSUES WITH LCD !
@Blazko612 I suggest you don't but a fold phone. I've used the fold 4 for almost 2 years and I don't recommend it for multiple reasons. I'll be posting that video shortly.
Best phone i have ever! I fully recommended, just remove asap you get it the screen protection fill inside the phone
@@IsraelSocial Thnx but I change my mind. I rather buy a use Note 20 U just few days ago for only 280 €. I still have Note 10+ and both works superb !
I have the same issue now omg 😢
Sorry to hear. Turns out there are a lot of cases out there! Check out part 2 of my series if you haven't yet ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Same issue
Sorry to hear. I reached out to Samsung and they won't do anything. $750 to fix. If I pay it it'll probably happen again in a year!
Exactly that's what happened to my zfold 3. It's a waste of money!!
I agree with you 100%. Hopefully this video will better educate others on their decision in whether to buy a foldable phone (don't)!
My fold 4 also happen like this..😅😅
Sorry to hear MNZ292
Do not buy Samsung Fold 4 or any Samsung Fold series. I called the Service Centre. The staff told me I need to pay for them to evaluate my phone and additional charges for replacing the screen. It sad that this phone can only last for 1 year. The phone was well protected with hard casing and never been dropped before. I barely used the large screen...less than 10 times in 12 months. Unlike my HuaWei P30 PRO which I had been using for more than 4 years. Utterly, disappointed with Samsung!
@kymloh5863 I 100% agree with you!
True... Mine bought in December 2022 n now May 2024...I have reached out to Samsung service Centre and was told to pay $750 for repair. Then I email directly to Samsung CEO in their website n was told to resend it to Samsung service Centre again...I will update you again of the outcome in 30 days from now.. best of 🤞 luck
(Just typed a huge speil and it deleted.)
My Fold had 5 or 6 faults. Samsung repaired it after a month messing around. Stoked they did right thing despite all the horror stories.
It's a beautiful phone, but I'm still gonna be concerned about it's future. They replaced both screens, batteries, hinge and casing I think. Get it tomorrow.
Just thought I'd share. Thanks Samsung.
👋 hi all...my Fold 4 was recalled by Samsung Service Centre for repair...(I've email the CEO under Samsung website regards my Z Fold 4 inner screen black out) I've just collected my phone and thankfully Samsung repaired it 😀 👍 all is good now..they changed: the body frame..inner screen..screen protector..and the hinge...it a one time off FOC by Samsung.. truly very glad the did it..happy for the the result 👏
@OrenXoom Great news! Was your unit still under warranty, or did they do it out of warranty? Would you mind sharing the email address you used? Thanks.
I believe there is also a class action lawsuit happening in the states I wish we had it here as well mine only lasted a few months of use same thing happened like yours
Thanks for the info
Hi @stancal9680, I'm about to release a new video that talks about the class action lawsuit that you mentioned to me in one of your comments. Would you be okay if I gave you a thank you shout out in that video?
The screen film started peeling off....CHECK
Days after, i got the black line ...CHECK
Touch screen does not work anymore ....CHECK
Allt his, right after 12 months from buying it....CHECK
So it's not a customer problem it's a defect. Which means they need to recall them and reimburse us
I'm never buying a foldable again. the technology is not ready and may be will never be
PLUS, it's an anxiety inducing phone. it's soo expensive you spend your time worrying about it. i miss the days when i had a cheap phone that i dropped a million times without any care in the world
100% agree with you!
Samsung regardless if u have warrenty or not on the factory warrenty they will find a Nick or a dot anything stint micro size n say it's void due to physical damage just happened to my fold 5 and they even says if ur screen protector is not there it's voided also.
Only way is Samsung care + when u buy the phone .
Please anyone who gets a flip or fold phone please get the Samsung care + or they will ding u for physical damage I have some warn paint from taking the case off and on very tiny mark and they ding n says it's physical damage . It's there way of saying if u didn't pay for the care + the warrenty is not going happen .
Warrenty is definitely for like . Clean ur dusty port lol and that's the best they going give u .
It's horrible if I knew any mark that is on ur phone it voids the warrenty . N this is coming from the repair centre and Samsung customer care custom relation any mark or nicks or anything it voids warrenty so cough up that screen money 700 for the screen
Thank you @minhoiii for sharing those insights. So I don't have much of a chance with my out of warranty request it seems, lol. I'll update this post with what Samsung comes back with.
Originally I purchased the extended warranty, but after almost a year, the costs really started to add up so I dropped it, sadly.
@@rejjie_DIY yeah even more if ur out of warrenty u are on ur own .
Cause mine is with warrenty n they just found a mark n says it's physical damage . It's there way of not fixing the screen under warrenty .
@@minhoiii I feel for you. That is so lame of Samsung!
If the servicer rejects warranty, and they likely will the punks, talk to Samsung. Be nice, state your case to them and they might fix it. They fixed mine, even though my hinge had a scratch on corners
Oof. Mayve i shouldnt have ordered z fold 4 😢
Get the insurance. And if the inside screen protector comes loose, replace immediately
After a 1 year later my Samsung fold 4 isn't work the foldable displays. Iam really disappointed with this product.
Agree with you 100%.
No lo compren salen defectuosos mucha tecnología para su tarjeta se truenan y son irreparables
I agree
Muchas gracias, justo estaba pensando en comprarlo, que teléfono de Samsung y Motorola recomiendas???
@LuciaDelmar-qs7hs I would stay away from foldables . I spend most of my time using the front screen anyway which is much smaller than the regular S-Series screens. The Samsung Galaxy S Series are fantastic. I'm looking at getting the s24 ultra next. Avoiding fold 5 and 6 for sure
It's a piece of overpriced junk. Beware, within 18 months of purchase mine has had its fold out screen film replaced twice (thankfully within the guarantee period). But immediately it's become an unusable slab - the front LCD screen has failed. Because of that there is no accessibility to WiFi (apparently the WiFi is integrated with the front screen). Sim slot no. 2 is unusable. To repair it requires the large foldout screen to be replaced because the SIM slot is integrated with the foldout screen! A marvel of design. And, the starter switch does not work. All this within 18 months of purchase and very careful use. Cost of getting it working. Rs. 70-75,000 (as per Samsung service centre). Guarantee on repair? 3 months. Are these guys kidding?? Avoid the GalaxyFold if you value your money.
Very frustrating, thanks for sharing. Seems there are reliability problems all over the fold.
I have used all version of fold nd flip . Presently I am using fold 5 nd flip 5 .
There is nothing wrong with samsung fold / flip .
This is due 2 user dosent knw , hw 2 use fold / flip ..
U have 2 remember u r using fold / flip ..
Till tody samsung is making world class phone ...
I'm glad your experiences have been positive. Unfortunately the percentage of people with issues is higher than it should be. In researching this topic, I found many others with the same problem as mine, much higher than a production device should have. See part 2 of my series here: ua-cam.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/v-deo.html
Same issue 😢 such nonsense.
Yeah 100% agree. Terrible product
You should feel lucky you got a year and a half out of it. Some people dont get close to that. Part of owning a foldable.
Yikes. More people need to read comments like yours. I'll post another video with the other findings I've made to help better educate potential fold customers.
I've had 3 folds.
2x Z fold 3
1x z fold 4
2 of them failed.
1 was fold 3, the other my fold 4.
So I don't recommend either.
Same problem with mine.
Thanks for the insight!
I just got one yesterday now im worry
If I were you, I would buy the extended warranty. And if possible outright purchase the phone to get extended warranty with your credit card if it's available
Also as mentioned in the thread, if your inside screen protector starts to peel, remove it immediately and replace it. It's probably best to get Samsung to do that. Subscribe to my channel , as I'll be posting a video on this topic.
The exact same thing happened to me.. My next smartphone won't be a Samsung for sure
@alevans1988 I agree 100% ! I'm surprised by how many others have had the exact same issue!
This happened with my phone today.
Unfortunate. Samsung still haven't got back to me yet. Hope you get warranty coverage
Same thing just happened to me. Regret ever buying this gimmick
Yep. I won't be getting a foldable when I replace this. I have to still pay out my contract on this phone for another 6 months!
