Battery life is a concern with the larger outer screen
Great toy.
Foldable phones are not needed period. No matter how much they tell us any different. Paying hundreds of dollars extra for a phone just because it flips is still so wild to me. The only reason these companies even make these 'foldable phones' is because they wanna show off any little scrap of 'innovation' they can find since they can't find any other way to improve their phones. They're bored. Foldable phones will always be a niche product with only a fraction of the global phone market.
Making myself feel like I’m 10 again with a flip phone… I’ve had an iPhone for the last 15 years… I’m getting this in 2 weeks! Excited is an understatement

Its crazy cause I came from an iphone 14 pro max. At first I was so hesitant to switch over to Android, but after months of watching nonstop videos on the zflip 4 I couldn't stay away and made the switch. I honestly have never felt this excited and happy to own a phone like I do with my zflip. I upgraded to the zflip 5 after only having the 4 for a few months because all I ended up paying for it was $50.

I’ve been thinking about switching since I saw the 4. Tired of the usual iPhone but kinda hesitant because of the crease, can you see/feel it?
@@iam5865 you can see it a bit depending on the angle you look at the phone. & you can feel it, but not much.
@@iam5865 i dont own the phone but i do know when you look at the phone directly, you cant see the crease only if you have it from like the side angle [same with fold]
agree! i sold my iPhone 14 Pro Max for this fun, innovative, and more customisable device, knowing that i am not a pro user for photography, i have not regrets at all, as long as the photo is looking great to my eyes!

U can tell Samsung spent plenty of time optimizing the ui for the cover screen display on the zfold 5. The animations jst looks and feels so smooth and polished. Hope one ui 6 gets this amount of smoothness as well.

I fianlly got this phone and i have to say the crease is truly kinda magical, i don't notice it 99% of the time. The way theyve managed to have it so effortlessly fade away when youre using the phone , is magical and i love it so much lol and when i do notice it i find it a cool little reminder of the piece of technology that im so easily pocketing, the front screen is so effective and useful i really do love this phone.

I'm happy the unfolding is more like the flip3, when I traded into the flip 4 it was noticeable how much more rigid the hinge on the 4 was, it sometimes feels like you need a specific grip to close it with one hand.
Tested this out at best buy and I can't wait!

Thanks for the review. Are there any issues with wear and tear of the fold in the center of the screen? Considering that it has to flip open constantly. Does it create a visible crease over time?

Simply besutiful phone, especially in that sleek black color.
I think something to note is that flipping the phone open and unlocking it with the sensor is a great feature primarily for RIGHT handed people
Idk if it’s a solution, but you don’t necessarily need to use your thumb, you could use your index finger to unlock it and I think that would make it more comfortable
I'm left handed and love it! Works so much better than any face recognition on any phone. I do everything with my left hand except for using phones. It's like driving a car. You just have to get used to driving the stick with your right hand unless you live in the UK or something. Also goes 100% smoothly.
I was debating between the mint and the carbon, but was also pretty interested in the website exclusive darker green...but there's no way I was going to wait an additional month to get one of the exclusive colors. I went with the mint, as I saw enough images to get a better idea of what I think it looks like in person, including the fact that the reails also appear to be mint. I would've preferred a much bolder color, and think Sammy should always include stuff similar to Aura Glow. Like yourself, I traded my Flip 4, plus the early reservation $50 credit. How could I NOT upgrade when it only cost me 49 dollars....and you could say you actually got PAID to upgrade, if the freebies they include are worthwhile to you.
8:26 I'm sure you know this Shane, but for anyone watching concerned about the sidebars that doesn't know, you can always pinch zoom out to fill the screen....not a perfect solution due to aspect ratio, but a better choice in most cases, to take full advantage of the screen.
I've pre ordered the mint but I think the colour doesn't really make a difference if you add a caee or a skin. Ordered a leather case and a carbon case with a chameleon skin! Can't wait
I have the blue on the z flip 4 which was not in the galaxy z flip 5 i had black and white on all of my past galaxy model blue is the only one i dont have which i currently owned on a z flip 4 yellow seems a bit over kill

I have the Flip 3 and have really enjoyed it. Yes my screen protector did lift and I am getting cracking in the seam now but somehow these things haven't deterred me from pre-ordering the 5.
What got me was being able to finally text with the phone closed. That's was the biggest pain for me was having to flip the phone open to respond to texts, other than the preset responses. My biggest worry, will the larger cover screen eat up alot of the battery life.... I hope not. 🤞
Logically speaking, because now you can do more on the cover screen, the battery should last longer, not only due to the Efficient chip but also the smaller screen to power at times.

it’s really good that I skipped zflip 4… like always, I dont change phones yearly. the updates or improvements arent that much. from zflip 3, will upgrade to zflip 5. preordering done! 😊

Thanks for the excellent review! Would you willing to consider a comparison between the flip 5 and the razr+ ? I've read that the razr allows you to use basically any app on the outer screen where for the flip it's mostly widgets. That'd be my biggest hang up in getting the flip vs razr

Cover Screen OS works on the 4 and most likely would look great on the 5s bigger cover screen- 14 BUCKS A YEAR FOR Beta Version- Dollar and some per month- not bad

Thanks for the review. How I wish Samsung can make a Mid-range type of Flip and Fold too. Maybe same price like Galaxy A54 or A73. For sure lots of people will buy since it's very fascinating to see a folding phone. Definitely I'll buy one too. 😁

Preordered the flip 5 and switching from 14 pro. iPhones have looked the same since the 11 and I missed getting excited when I upgraded. I only need cameras for social media and these are good enough.

Your opening skills is kool just like Flossy Carter who does it the same way. I can see many people emulating that opening skill of the flip phone. Samsung do win big with the flip phone sturdiness and the rigid but smooth opening angles when opening the phone. 😎💯✊🏾

I had Flip 4. It was a nice phone. Really good-looking and it catches some attention. I decided to trade up for an S23 Ultra and i've been using that phone ever since.
I think i will stick with the classic smartphone for now. It's just not worth it to downgrade just because of the flip factor at this time.

I mean I've loved my flip 3 for the past two years. That battery could be better, but the camera and everything else is still as snappy. I'm getting the 5 for better battery and the front screen. Plus ppl in the future are gunna make so many apps work for it!
@@hex1275because it's compact battery is tricky cameras tricky Motorola RAZR is really good specs just as good as S23 and Apple but I like the look of Samsung's it's a well built phone but Motorola has better specs and camera
@@hex1275with foldables they can't have it be crazy think especially when closed. So in making them thinner while open, there's not enough depth for them to include the top tier cameras. As much as we all want them, there's simply not space for them to include the flagship cameras at the moment, just the reality of it. Same goes for not being able to fit in a larger battery. Though I argue they should just make the Flip wider for a larger battery at least bc my main grip is how narrow it is when opened, especially when I'm coming from a Pro Max

So I have a Fold4, and I love it. However, the inside screen got a bubble in the middle, and it just grew and grew. I'm getting it replaced because it's under warranty, but do I really want to? Maybe upgrade to the Fold5, but is it worth it? Or go back to the S (my last phone was a S21) and get the S23. If I don't get a new full year warranty on the replacement of my Fold4, I'm not going to keep it. Any suggestions would be great.
I have insurance on my flip 3 and got it fully renewed last week. Now it's a completely new phone (fresh new battery and screen and stuff) that I can either keep using for myself or sell it for a good price because it's pretty much as new. I'll do the last thing. I'm getting my new flip 5 in three weeks and will then sell my flip 3 for a good price since it's new and plenty of people online like to buy second hand phones..
I own a flip 4 before. One of the down side is the black bars while watching youtube video. It is the same size of a s23 watching video with black bars. But still a fun experience with a flip phone.
I see you have OSR. How is it playing something like that with the screen crease? I know you said you don't notice it in peson; but I guess that just seems too good to be true haha. I'm one click away from pre-ordering. I'm just trying to convince myself to pull the trigger

I’m an iPhone user from 2000 until now , after looking at this Samsung flip I kind of like it so I’m decides to order it but I haven’t got it yet , i hope I like it .
What does Samsung get out of basically giving these away to owners of the previous generation Flip? I'm certainly not complaining. I did it last year, and just got my pre-order in for the 5. It's a sweet deal, but I don't understand the economics of it. :)
Me neither lol, same exact price and deal as last year as far as the $900 trade in goes. They did reduce it to $700 eventually so it won't last forever
That's only in the US. I got 120 euros from Samsung for ordering the 1399 euro 512GB flip phone. And then through Vodafone they offered an amazing deal that you could hand in Any phone when ordering flip 5 and getting 300 euros off. So I handed in a crappy old 00s phone that doesn't work anymore. And I'm selling my Flip 3 online which I just got completely renewed last week because I had insurance. But those deals like in the US... are only in the US🥲

The outer display of zflip kinda reminds me on a larger version of the galaxy watch in a phone form factor, I wish they could come out with rollable watch that could be opened upto 3.5" display.
That would be amazing. I've noticed myself doing more texting on my watch over time but frequently get so many typos and errors. Big screen would help with that for sure, but idk how they would implement that tech until rollables are the new mainstream which who knows when that will be
@ShaneSymonds this to be honest with u has nothing to do with the rollable their weak point is the wider outer display and Samsung has been ignoring their consumers and turned into Apple, I don't know what happened to them in 2019 before they listened to their consumers but now they have been ignoring their consumers and just like apple we have just been see ing processor upgrade and incremental camera upgrade, majority of the people complained about the narrow display it's not usable and if small hand is the case I'd rather have a 4.7" display in a 16:9 aspect ratio than a 6.7" display which is only a tv remote with the same with as a 4.7" phone with 16:9 aspect ratio.
how's the multitasking?
Is the US Z Flip5 Region Locked so that you have to make a 5 minute call locally before being able to use it abroad? It should say so on the bottom of the box if it is. According to one UA-cam video, in India it is Region Locked.

I got a z flip 3 two years ago but then decided to sell it and just get an s22 ultra. I'm really tempted to get the flip 5 because of that front display. However, it's just too narrow for me, making UA-cam and other videos way too small with those thick black bars. If they ever make it wider, I'm definitely a buyer. I know there are other flip phones that are wider but I want to stick with Samsung.
I have the z fold4 and am tempted to get the flip, but don't want to trade in my fold. Im with Verizon, and t mobile is offering this phone for free for adding a new line so I switched to t-mobile and got the flip 5 free while still keeping my fold4.
I'm going from the flip 3 to the fold 5. I think the tablet screen will be a big change and I'd prefer that over the s22 or 23.
So I have the Z-flip 4 and I had this issue also. I downloaded UA-cam Vanced, which is a modded clone of UA-cam with a few cool added features. Like to put any video in full screen.
Works great on my Flip 4
Big mistake cannot use many apps unlike the Motorola. Cannot use Google wallet. Cannot even make a call
If only Samsung would make this phone wider. For me, its just too narrow.
