    ABOUT Dr. Katie Woodley - The Natural Pet Doctor
    =====
    Dr. Katis is a small animal integrative veterinarian who developed a passion for natural medicine while I was living in New Zealand. Her vet career was lucky enough to begin in the beautiful country of New Zealand. She was able to see how living off the land by growing our own vegetables and raising our own animals was the way to live the healthiest versions of ourselves. Her pets were lucky to have lots of open space to run around in and were always at the beach or the river.
    When they moved back to the States five years ago, her husband, unfortunately, developed an autoimmune disease. As they researched natural medicine options for him to avoid the horrible side effects of the treatment options his doctors were providing him, Dr. Katie realized that she was doing a disservice to her animal patients by not offering these holistic options to them. She began down the integrative medicine route and has never been happier. Through nutrition, acupuncture, herbal medicine, essential oils, and supplements, every animal can achieve optimal health or feel their best even when they have a chronic illness or disease like cancer. She currently has a certification in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and is continuously learning about the other natural modalities and growing her knowledge base every day!
    She started this business to provide pet parents with more resources for natural medicine advice and care because we need to increase awareness of how amazing natural medicine truly is! Dr. Katie's mission is to ensure that all pet parents have access to herbal medicine, supplementation, and nutritional advice throughout their pet's lifetime. One of her greatest joys is the opportunity to collaborate with both pet parents and other veterinary professionals to ensure access to all available integrative options for pet health care.

    I had 3 dogs on heartworm that was also supposed to work on ticks. They all 3 got two tick-borne diseases. 1 of them DIED from it. I spent the 7 weeks she was sick researching and would NEVER give those things again. I feel it suppressed her immune system and she couldn't fight off the diseases they gave her. I NEVER found a tick on any of them but we do have deer and mice on the ranch so wasn't surprised. They are house dogs too but still never found a tick. One good thing that came from it is opening my eyes and going all natural!

      I know exactly how you feel ,I used a medicine called Brovecto and within hours it shut down his organs ! Worst day of my life ,it was a medicine u only gave once every 3months ,instead of once a month ,it was not reversible at all ,guilt almost killed me ,I felt I should have known better after all I was a animal groomer, I didn't know it's a pesticide 😢I balled my eyes out nightly for 8 months. Please don't use anything that's not ALL NATURAL PRODUCTS, ILL NEVER USE ANYTHING THAT IS NOT ALL 100% NATURAL

    I have to admit that even though I can sense that very good info is being provided here, a lot of it is quite confusing. I'm still not clear on when and how often I should give a preventative to my dog even with knowing (according to the map) cases for heartworm are low. Also, I've often wondered why pet parents sometimes get criticized by their regular Vets for using the Internet for information when such good and helpful information is COMING from actual Vets, especially when they're integrative/holistic vets!

The math is something like .25 micro litter per lb of body weight. I had a MD doctor help me do the conversion from a heart guard chewable to 1% liquid solution. I have Lyme and have become phobic about biting insects. Everyone talks about ticks and so do I, but along with ticks, fleas, spiders, ants, and especially mosquitoes can cause vector-borne illnesses. I just read that the mosquito is the leading cause of death in the world. Think Malaria.
    It’s awful, because I happen to have a live version a co-infection of Lyme, Babesia, is first cousin of Malaria, and I’ve been through all the symptoms of malaria; the uncontrollable shakes, fevers, sweats, etc.
    My doctor has never seen this before, and I get it from volunteering!

    I know this is an old thread but I have a question.
    We adopted a Collie two years ago, that was rescued from a breeder in Tennessee. She tested negative for heartworm (Nov 2021) by the rescue. When we adopted her we took her to our vet and she again tested negative for heartworm (Jan 2022). During our annual exam in Dec 2022, she again tested negative for heartworm. (That’s 3 negative tests). However, in December 2023 she tested positive and we are now undergoing heartworm treatment. Everyone is telling us it’s unlikely that the heartworm existed but was I detectable for two years but at the same time her blood has shown no microfilaria the entire time, even when the recent antigen test came back positive.
    She has been on interceptor plus administered monthly and at most we would have been off only a few days. We do not understand how it either went undetected for two years or she became infected while on interceptor plus. Any insights you can give us?

Right now they are on triflexis. I just get so scared after watching seizure videos of pets on it. One month in the winter I was scared seeing those videos and stopped it but there’s too many risk in the summer. I wish I lived in a cold state. Im so confused!! My conventional vet told me to give my 4 months, 3lbs puppy, Heartguard, and after researching this medication i found its a neurotoxin that can cause neurological and liver issues. My pup eats a balance home cooked diet, that includes small portion of carbs, veggies a two proteins( generally ground turkey and ground beef liver). I live in Florida, in an apartment, and im terrify of this disease. The idea of poisoning my pet with the commercial medication is awful too. My only option is either stay indoors 24/7 or risk to give him natural preventive not knowing if it work. I like the idea if small amounts of garlic in his food, but again many vets say garlic is toxic.

If your dogs immune is as strong as you say it is, then it has less chance of suffering. I've known dogs to heal from HW, the key is in getting them tested
