Thanks for letting us know about the Festival, we live in Tucson and hadn't heard about it before, will definitely check it out! Are you going to show up for the 2024 festival?
This last Saturday I was finally able to get a trogon for the first time over at the parking lot at the top of the canyon. Madera will always be one of my favorite places to go.
I stayed at the Santa Rita Lodge, this past April, and was able to photograph hummingbirds right on my cabin deck feeder, as well as other birds around me. I did see Rivoli’s, Anna’s, Rufous, Black Chinned, Broad Tailed, Broad Billed, as well as a Berylline. On top of that, I did see and photograph the Elegant Trogon, on my second try, up the Old Baldy Trail. It was an amazing trip, and plan to go back next spring. If interested in hummingbirds, there is the International Hummingbird Festival in Sedona, Arizona, at the very end of July. I went 2 years ago, and it was phenomenal, and will be going back this year.
I go to my first birding festival this week! Super excited about it! Thanks for sharing this video! You got some amazing shots of some beautiful birds!
Love that shot of the Montezuma Quail perched on the cliff. Great lighting and composition, interesting surrounding scenery, and an adorable subject. Cropped and zoomed in a bit, it'd make a nice calendar picture.
I did know about them in kind of a vague, conceptual way, but I hadn't actually seen one before. Looks like a lot of fun! The communal checklist is a nice idea. Nobody is competing to find more birds, the whole festival is just tallying everyone's finds up together. That's wholesome.
Hey so talk about great timing 🙂 I will just be finishing up in Big Bend national Park for a few hours this morning, then I will be in southeast Arizona tonight, for 5 more days of my 30-day birding adventure 👍 But yea, SE AZ is freaking amazing 🙂 Really hoping for my Red Faced and Olive Warblers 🙂 Nice video. Thank you 👍
Derek well you and Nathaniel were there did you go to Buenos Aires national wildlife refuge , that is near the town of arivaca Next time you go to Arizona go to that location that is one that not a lot of birds go to but there are lots of birds there and lots of beautiful animals to .
I found Tucson the city could feel a little sketchy sometimes, so keep an eye on what part of town you’re in. I didn’t have any bad experiences just some of the vibes in certain places were different. Bring lots of water and a bucket hat. Try to hit the lower elevations in the morning and do the higher elevation areas a little later since it’s not as hot up in spots such as Mount Lemmon (although the birding will still be best in the morning). Check the hours of places because sometimes they’re weird, such as Ramsey Canyon being closed two days during the week. It’s an epic birding location! Just typing this made me wanna go back 🤣
@@BadgerlandBirding awesome tips . Thx so much for taking the time. A good topic for another video!” birding in the summer tips” gear, clothing, bugs prevention etc. could really be in any location.
Hardly. My brother and I are both tennis coaches, and I have like 3 other jobs. We just choose to spend our time and money on building our birding business.
@@BadgerlandBirdingThat's a work ethic, haha. It's cool that you two have a shared hobby and the drive to turn it into a career. Hopefully it takes off enough that you can focus on it full time!
Have you ever been to the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival?
You can learn more about the festival here: tucsonaudubon.org/festival/
I've never been to the festival, but recently visited SE Arizona for the first time.

I got my first Trogon last year. But I'm hoping to improve upon my photos of it in the next week 🙂

That was a great festival! I would love to visit Madera Canyon if I visit southeast Arizona.
Very pretty birds! Cool that you saw a gray hawk.
Wow, awesome diversity~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
My home state. My brother is one of the guides for the SEAZ birding festival, in addition to guiding there year round.
Awesome. Who’s your bro??

Must be a young one!
I've heard Madera Canyon is a good place to pick up Buff Collared Nightjars and some owl species as well.
Any tips or things you wish you knew when visiting the festival? Birding that area in the summer tips?

I am guessing that you guys are 'rich kids'. I could never afford to travel around the country chasing birds. !!!!!!! More power to you.

I'm switching over to birding. Herpers are too serious and secretive.
I feel ya on that. Welcome!
