    Kim, I have been doing photography as a hobby and a business for 60 years. You advice was excellent, especially about the gear. My first camera was a 4x5 view camera and my first 35mm camera was a new 1960 fully manual Nikon F with a handheld light meter. If I still had that old Nikon F I would not feel limited. Keep on posting to Yputube, you are adding value.

    Another good video kim. Agree that at first you are selfconcous but you find people are fascinated and find it can start interesting conversations especially when using a tripod.

    Great video Kim, your advice is so useful. Glad to know that i'm not the only one who feels a little self conscious when using a tripod in public. Your enthusiasm comes through really well and your love of photography is obvious. Good luck with your future project

    Hi Kim thanks for another inspiring video. I run a U3A photography group
    for beginners and I have lost count of the number of time members have said they
    cant join because they have not got a good enough camera. I agree Its not the
    camera its person that holding it. Many of the groups best shots have been
    taken on older 6/8 megapixel compact and an iPhone. I shall be forwarding this vlog to them.
    Keep up the great work

      Thank you very much! So many people are put off by their equipment. I have taken some cracking images on my phone and some of my first night time images (which I regard as some of my best), were taken on a beginner DSLR. Equipment should be no barrier. Thanks in advance for forwarding it on :)

    You are so RIGHT! Now a days the technology allows EVERYONE to take great quality photos. But the problem with landscape photography is that it seems easy but it's not. Professionals make it look easy. Now landscape photography is not really my cup of tea, but i have tried it and can appreciate the work behind a great landscape photo. It's just one of those things that's easy to learn but difficult to master !
    Great video !

    Challenging yourself to shoot in any light is actually awesome advice! I mostly go out during sunset because I always hear everyone saying things like "harsh sunlight is not good for photos" etc. You just made me want to bring my camera everywhere at any time and try to make interesting photos, thank you for this.

    • @kimgrantphotography

      Wow that's lovely to hear Dominik! Although sunset and sunrise are amazing times to shoot, daytime can be just as exciting. Enjoy!

    Whilst I would not argue in regards to the tips, I also felt I was watching a lecture rather than some friendly advice. Trying to cram too much information into a short period of time gave the impression it was being rushed, so much so at times I felt I needed to come up for Air. Personally I think on these type of Vlogs It would help if you slowed down, may I recommend a fellow vlogger e6 vlogs as an example.

    Thanks Kim. Great advice for when we are all out and about in nature. I sometimes feel strange using a tripod but I am advancing slowly, using a gorillapod and a monopod when I don't feel comfortable with full gear. Keep on showing us your unique views of your beautiful country.

    My Camera Body packed up on the evening before I arrived on the Scilly Isles (okay I should have had a spare or a second Camera but it was quite new) - The Camera Shop on St Mary's is the Chemist - no cameras, 'no demand as everyone has a mobile' the chemist said. I had to learn how to use my new mobile's Camera AND FAST - Surprised by the results, by useless for enlargements or sales.

    Great video. I can't tell you how many have debated form one camera manufacture to another. The photographer makes the picture. The camera captures it. Different angles make pictures too. My problem is not so much as getting low. It is getting up. My photo buddy and I help each other. First rule of photography is know your camera. Second is have fun. Third check out other peoples work. There is nothing like a little kids birthday party and you capture the moment. As for Landscape photography . Go out and enjoy it. See the sun and the clouds. Animals are great. Have fun.

    Really enjoyed the video Kim, so many interesting points & tips! The angle's one is amazing , just by moving up or down or left & right, a completely different composition emerges! Remember in 1 of your previous video's whist on the beach- you got down so low ( practically laying on the sand ) & you took some fab images of grasses 😊 So many other valuable tips here too!

    Good tips. I have only recently returned to photography. Years ago I got some good results from an old SLR film camera. I do intend to bring it back into use, but, as a first digital camera, I have had some surprisingly good results from a little Nikon coolpix with zoom. It has given me a new enthusiasm, as have your inspiring videos.

    11 Use the wrong lens.
    I often go for a walk with one lens, a prime. And use it for everything.
    I have tried a 150-600 lens for landscapes, Would you be surprised that it works?

    • @kimgrantphotography

  • @Gundolf300
    @Gundolf300 5 років тому

    Well... Gear doesn't matter until it does. Megapixels for one is great to have a bunch, those times you need to heavily crop your images or want to make large prints. The same goes for insanely sharp optics.
    A ff-sensor is superior when it comes to low light noise and dynamic range.
    When taking really long exposures a camera that doesn't get dead pixels all over is quite nice, even if it will set you back 3000 euros.
    A tripod that actually stays in the same place you leave it for a considerable amount of time is quite useful to even if it will be expensive.
    If however these advantages are worth paying for is whole other story. Sure, you can take "cracking" images with your phone, but it is so much more limited.
    Not saying that you could buy your way of bad skills, but there sure is a polar right and a polr wrong when it comes to equipment.

    Kim, there are loads and loads of great tips in your video, wonderful suggestions on how to improve your landscape photography, all very true and all very valid, yet somehow I felt that I had just been lectured and had a telling off for not doing things right.
    Really sorry but I just didn't enjoy this video which is a real shame as you produce great videos and are so passionate about your photography. Sorry.

    • @DonJoyce
      @DonJoyce 5 років тому +1

      Wow...I'm surprised at this comment. Tips are just that...take them or leave them. I didn't take Kim's tips as a lecture at all, but rather insightful advice from an expert. But everyone is entitled to an opinion.

    • @martinjn2920
      @martinjn2920 5 років тому

      @@DonJoyce The points Kim raises are very valid and I say that in my comments, it was the delivery that didn't do it for it for me which was a shame as Kim is so passionate about her photography and I love her video's. I don't want to offend Kim and hope that the comments are taken constructively rather than destructively.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  5 років тому +1

      I admit this video is different to my usual uploads. I guess I just wanted to empower people. So many people say they haven't got good gear, don't live in nice enough places or can't get out at good times of day. This video was a way of me saying, although they can be viewed as barriers, you should get out and enjoy it no matter what. Don't let your equipment the weather or others stop you. I appreciate your honest comment though :) I've taken it constructively and thank you :)
