Hi Martin think for me a tad expensive but looks a decent piece of kit. Love the unpacking leaving the instructions in the box just like me. 😂😂😂😂👍
Hi Paul, yes I don’t do instructions! Good bit of kit but needs to be competitively priced for the caravan market.
Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
Hi Martin. Seems a tad on the expensive side but like you said once you have a good signal it is quite impressive almost as good as my home Broadband. Thanks for sharing Phil🙂👍
Hi Phil, Yes it works well and speeds are fast with a good signal. Thanks for watching 🙂
Hi Martin great Vlog as usual ,blimey that seems a bit pricey ,sounds good ,we will have to use local caffee
or other places to log on while we are away. The Nighthawk is very convenient but to expensive for us at the
moment will ,wait till they come down in price ,thanks Martin keep the great work up .
Hi Chris, Yes it’s a great bit of kit that does the job well if there is a signal! However it needs to be competitively priced for the caravanning market. It will appeal to those who work whilst away or spend months on the road. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 🙂
Thanks for sharing, its a little expensive for me. Think I’ll stick to tethering. 👍🏼
If it’s not broke don’t try and fix it! 🤔 Thanks for watching, Martin 🙂
Thanks for that for Martin. A bit disappointing in the end. I would like one as hoped might get a better signal than my phone. Looking at it not likely to get a better signal unless having big booster aerial on. Often in our van at best might get a little bit of 3G at back but often E. Have to sit outside to get a signal on most sites. I suppose could put that outside in awning so you get a signal then use wifi properties.
Hi, When it’s got a signal it’s great, very fast speeds. The price will probably put people off but it is a great bit of kit. One of the plus points is that it’s unblocked to you can use any SIM. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
I've used the M1 version and been able to get rid of my home broadband. When I go to my very rural static caravan I take it with me. Never needed an external aerial. At home I have 11 devices attached and in both locations I get fantastic speeds - but that depends on your Sim provider. I have a phone and a router Sim and can transfer data between the 2. Please note that you do not need a data only Sim - a phone Sim with data is always cheaper. Not expensive if you can get rid of home broadband and your phone line (so 2020 😂😂😂).
They are great devices for internet on the go, we do get a phone Sim with data and have had some good deals. It’s not been used for while due to not been able to go away, hopefully soon it will get some use! Thanks for comments and watching.
You can double the speed by using it on multi band. When setting up the Wi-Fi setting you will have two addresses one use the one with 5G attached to it. From what you posted you are using the address without thec5G.
It switches between the 2 depending on what’s best. Cheers
Another great vlog Martin, bit overpriced for me
I’m on Three network which is usually good but recently down around Cirencester signal was bobbins so almost went out to buy a Vodafone mifi but didn’t want to spend lot for just few days
I have 30Gb month deal but Three are now doing unlimited data for 20 quid a month with 6 month half price so think tethering to phone is a cheaper option and you still have data to use at home.
Obviously if you’ve no signal on site you’ve had it anyway.
Keep up the good work - half term is just around the corner 👍🏻
Hi Howard, I agree on the price, to appeal the caravan market it needs to be competitively priced. I usually hotspot my phone for my iPad.
Looking at some of the comments I need to update my data package!
Thanks for the feedback and support.
Martin 😊
speed depends on carrier aggregation and band used. if no carrier aggregation and low frequency band, the best speed you might get is around 10-15mbps. seems like you're on 2x carrier aggregation.
Hi Martin well explained video but I could get a couple of holidays out of the price of that I know what I would sooner have. 🤗
Hi Liz, only a couple 😂 thanks for watching, Martin 😊
Hi Martin, Do you know which network this connects to? As we know they all have different coverage depending on area. We turn on the phone personal hotspot and tether to this using the tablet. Just browsing / emails uses next to nothing. Its the videos that eat data. Interesting though Martin. Thanks Rob
Hi Rob, The box is unblocked so any network will work. I usually hotspot the phone and only use it for browsing and email, uses too much data for vids. Thanks for watching, Martin 🙂
Seems a lot of money like to know the the data plans that come with it I use an old phone as a WiFi hotspot seems to work ok can't see the advantage of that device unless I'm missing something thankyou for posting
Hi Greg, I’m the same as you using phone data. It is a lot of money to spend for mobile internet. I think this would appeal to those who work whilst away or stream TV. Thanks for watching 😊
Wow. That's a lot of money. But. A great video.
Hi, Yes it is a lot of money! 🤔 thanks for the feedback and watching, cheers Martin 🙂
Hi Martin, hope you are well, it’s a good product. I guess it would depend on cost Vs necessity. It’s needs a signal just like a mobile phone, I assume it has a data plan with it just like a phone, also signal strength just like a phone. I guess you would need to ask yourself, do I need it & is the cost justified. I have a huge data limit on my phone & I only use it as you do, for local amenities & booking tickets for attractions etc. We usually take the iPad for our daughter but download loads of films etc before we leave so no data is used on that. So for me it’s not worth the outlay, but for others who have to work online whilst away then yea possibly could be an idea.
Hi, all valid points which I totally agree with. It works extremely well with a good signal but you need to justify the price. 🤔
Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
Thanks Martin for the review. My wife and I both have large data package on our phones, so when on site, one of us will hot spot our phone, then daughter logs in with her Ipad and phone, we also connect a fire stick and laptop. Please help, but I can't see the point of one of these and also having to pay for another sim .
Hi Mark, we usually do the same, hotspot off our phones. I think it would be handy if you were travelling a lot and maybe working whilst away. It’s a good bit of kit but not sure I could justify the cost of it. Thanks for watching, Martin 🙂
@@TheCaravanNut Sorry, but i'll stay with my phone and use the £300 on another holiday 😀
We have the EE Mini Wifi 2 and were at the Cove Campsite near Pooley Bridge a couple of weeks ago, got around 30-40 mbps download speeds on EE. I'm on the look for another 4G router, does this support an external omnidirectional antenna?
Hi, I looked at the EE WiFi, looks a good box and price. I have looked through the Nighthawk info and you can connect MIMO dual rf antenna. There are two rubber pads on the Nighthawk that you can remove to reveal antenna connections. Hope that helps, Martin 😊
@@TheCaravanNut Fantastic, it won't be long until 5G is rolled out and this will be a viable option instead home home broadband.
Would have liked to see speed of sim in phone, then compared with speed of sim in nighthawk, especially in a bad signal area, as its supposed to make signal stronger.
Also you you need to have a sim in it? Can you connect to campsite wifi to increase the signal strength of it?
Thanks
I have now fitted an external antenna which has improved the signal. As for connecting it to campsite WiFi, I think you can do it but never tried so can’t help you with that one. Cheers
Hi Martin, interesting bit of kit. I think I would only consider it if it provided a better connection than on my phone. I’ve looked at signal boosters on UA-cam which basically means vids from the USA. This kit seems to work but is basically a router with an external antenna on a mast. Do you think the nighthawk had better reception than your phone?
Cheers John
Hi John, on the site we were at our phones had a better signal, with 4g the Nighthawk was far faster. I think it all depends on the service provider, which from experience can be hit and miss.
Thanks for watching 😊
Cheers Martin, thanks for the reply. You’ve got Al and I considering a device, so she can work from the van rather than at home which she does 2 to 3 days a week. So I’ve done a little more digging and found a great video from the Gadget John on tour channel, the video is called “best vanlife internet set up”. He explains and demonstrates the benefits of adding an aerial to the unit. I’ve also watched another video from the USA which verifies and explains your experience of the connection being faster from the router, ua-cam.com/video/Ak7LGtt7eWY/v-deo.html If we do decide to adopt, I’m considering swapping out the TV aerial on the van for a 4G aerial, as we us a satellite for TV. For info. the satellite works great as long as you get line of sight to the transmitting satellite.
Thank again John (not gadget John 😊)
How much. ! Bloody hell I was expecting about 90 quid 😱 I used my iPhone as a hotspot and run my laptop of that to watch sky etc. Can’t see any reason why I’d get one🤷♂️ Thanks for sharing though 👍🏻 Graham
Ha ha, I normally do the same with the phone. Thanks for watching Graham 🙂
The Caravan Nut Actually quick question. Do you get a sim and data with it? Wasn’t quite sure? Cheers
Caravan Vlogger no it comes sim free only for £379 on Amazon I had a few I sold them on eBay for £280 previous owned Netgear M1 Nighthawk
Check out the Maxview roam internet system, same price as this but a much better system. Just installed one in my caravan.
Will have a look at that Lee, thanks for the info. Cheers Martin
Hi Martin we have x box one which has Sky Go App. Amazon Prime Video App and Netflix App
Will this allow us to connect the xbox one to it so we can use the apps while in caravan
Hi Tina, Providing you have a good signal it will work. It still works on Network, I would research the best providers for the areas you go too. We have it on 3 and couldn't get a signal in the Lakes. cheers Martin
I am definitely getting one of these as don't like idea of hot spotting phone as you are leaving your phone open to being hacked when using some hotspots
I don't think will be using data only sims as they are expensive and not enough data but you can use phone sim in these which means you can get unlimited data
Now trying to work out which phone signal is best at 4g internet around country
Is the Netgear Nighthawk M2 compatible with 5G networks?
Yes as far as I’m aware.
@@TheCaravanNut Thank You
Could be me but I class WiFi as something that is hard wired, so my internet is coming from a router hard wired to a phone socket. That box is connected via a SIM so is wholly dependant on signal. In that case you might as well just hotspot off a phone and save a lot of money.
Hi Nick, I usually hotspot off my phone and so far has been no problem. This maybe useful for people who spend a lot of time on the road and possibly work whilst away. However if there’s no signal then it pretty useless.
Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
Perhaps I missed it, but is there no external aerial?
Yes there are external aerial points under the two rubber grommets near the charging point.
@@TheCaravanNut I guess that if you'll connect an external aerial the signal will be much better. It is worth a try.
If you are not getting a good signal with just the box I suppose you could try it, I don’t know much about the aerials.
Is it unlocked compatible to use in the USA?
They are available in the USA
I take it the data for the sim costs money it's not free, that's on top of almost 400 squid, and you only use it on holiday when in caravan, so unless you go away a lot and spend all your time in your caravan its not much good then, maybe you should point that out. We tend to spend few hours in van as we go looking round, my phone data plan 100gb a month for 20 pound so I will stick there. Good review love your videos but a bit bias I think
Don’t shoot the messenger! I agree it is an expensive bit of kit, however it is a very good bit of kit that works well and have far more features than other internet boxes, you just need to have a good signal and the best value sim in it. Would I pay £389 for one....no.
Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
Great vlog martin, in my opinion, its a totally pointless bit of kit, if theres no phone signal then this won't work either. Most phones now have stacks of data which allows streaming, if you have an iPad without a sim card then theres the Hotspot connection from phones -. and given the cost, I think anyone buying this purely for caravanning will quickly realise they've made an expensive error - just my opinion.
Hi Lee, Yes no signs no point! I have always used my phones hotspot in the past with no major problems. It’s a good bit of kit but needs to be better priced for the caravan market.
Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
I agree, I use my son's sim as it's a data only. £20 for 30GB and we all connect to his phones hotspot. We are yet to run out of data month to month.
This device can working without battery?
There is an internal battery and can be plugged into mains supply. Thanks
@@TheCaravanNut thank brother.
Is this in USA
Don’t think it’s available in the USA yet but could be wrong 😊
Hi Martin , You do know your suposed to have a ARIEL for this don't you ? the two black rubbers come away and you put your connections in and it wont be POORLY at Poorly Bridge. Ray K UK YNWA.
Hi Ray, Yes I’m well aware of the Ariel option as I mentioned it in a previous reply to someone asking about it. With a good network signal the NH works perfectly fine without the Ariel, however it is an optional extra should you require it. Cheers 😊
Morning Martin £300 and odd is that total cost or is there also a monthly fee?
I’m very much in the low IQ of IT 🤣
Morning Colin, I’m the same with IT, I love it but it hates me! The box is £389 + sim. The sim with it lasts 12 months which is a better option for us, if I got a monthly sim not I would use it all. If you’re in the market for mobile internet it’s worth shopping around. Thanks for support as always, Martin 😊
Great review. Way too expensive though.
Hi, Yes the price will put people off this great product. Thanks for watching
Is this unlimited data use Martin? I pay £20 a month for a data only sim that we put in Mike's phone, turn on mobile hotspot and Clare, Mike and I all use that data while away. If it's unlimited data use then the price may work out very good. On the other hand if it's runs out after 12 months then I am not sure... hmmm have so many questions haha.
Hi Ian, the sim they gave me had 24g on it and last for 12 months or until you’ve used it. I usually just hotspot off my phone which normally does the job. If you have any more questions about it ask Bob Earnshaw 😂😂 cheers Martin 😊
Just like everyone saying Martin they are very expensive.
Like a few of your comments your phone is just as good, but also like you have experienced signal quality has to be there.
Up to now just data sharing between are phones has been great and are son uses like every teenager play station etc.
We have used to the EE one very cheap and has worked very well they been out a while now.
But like every thing now there out of date by the end of the week with technology markets.
I agree with the comments, it is a very good bit of kit that works very well with a good signal, it’s the price that needs to be competitive.
Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
£389 !!...Think i will stick with my phone plan.
👍😊
