    This exercise is, of course, experimental. Most of the subtle effects of burn down were noticeable only at areas well outside the field of view captured by the iPhone. The lantern cast light through the trees, well out beyond the road. In the future, I might add a low-end cinema cam to my kit and film such videos from two angles; primary view with the cinema cam and a side view with the iPhone. Now, for those who are interested, what did I do for about five hours? I was actually on-site for over 7 1/2 hours as I filmed another review before this timelapse. I moved around in the dark, keeping watch for animals with thermal night vision. I also had to stay close to the road to ensure that no vehicles pulled up into the campground to see if it was open. US Forest Service Law Enforcement did come by and I was standing near the road and able to talk with the officer without getting any light cast into the filming area. The wind chill really got to me after 3-4 hours, even with the thermal layer under my jacket. I was shivering badly at the 4 1/2 hour mark. Probably the most difficult video I've ever filmed :)

      Hello explorer! So how long can the flashlight work in maximum mode? Standing lamp? Thank you!

      @@kollapsis1 The theoretical burn-down curve shows the first step-down from Turbo at about 30 min. In the timelapse, you can see that happened a bit earlier, most likely due to the cold weather. Thank you.

      @@L5-SAR Half an hour for turbo mode is probably good, it's worth turning down the brightness a little. In general, a decent flashlight with a minimum of competitors. Thank you!

      @@kollapsis1 The ability to dial in the precise amount of illumination and then also adjust color temp is unmatched and extremely helpful in a general camping environment. If you look at my full review on the product, you can see how I transport it in the field in Search and Rescue activities. Thank you.

    On Fenix website they claim it will run on turbo "2000 lumens" for 9hrs. Your test shows that after 3hrs it kicked down. Thank you for taking the time.

      ANSI/FL-1 run times are the time it takes (with fully charged battery) to go from the stated level to 10% of that output. I doubt it would have gotten close to 9 hours at that temperature. I would not have made it, so I shut the test down. I hope the test shows what output levels can be realistically maintained for a given environment. Thank you.

    Thank you for the review. I had two coming for the winter to use one in my car for safety reason and from what you showed I am pretty disappointed in the battery life. They state 9 hours on high, 10 hours on medium and 360 hours on low. That does not seem like the case. I am debating if I should return both as soon as I receive them. What light would you recommend as an alternative one?

      I did not run the burn down to complete battery exhaustion. It was very cold that night and I had to stand off in the dark. I had already been about five hours on my feet. I have confidence that the lantern could have kept going at that final output level for at least a couple more hours. Theoretical burn down charts are created under indoor lab conditions. They have little relevance for real outdoor performance, especially under adverse conditions. Thank you.

    Hi.Thank you for this useful experienceI. noticed that at 00:33 the light decreased. Does this mean that it decreased from 2000 lumens to 1000 lumens within half an hour? It also decreased after 3:07, and it decreased to 10 lumens?

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  7 місяців тому +1

      I do not have an integrating sphere or other means to measure lumen output, so I can't state how many lumens, just record when the step-downs occur at the given outside temp. Thank you.

      @@L5-SAR I understand you. I am looking for a device that lasts for 8 to 9 hours, whether from 2000 lumens to 1000 lumens without interruption. I did not find this feature in the products of lighting companies. Thanks

    • @L5-SAR
      @L5-SAR  7 місяців тому +1

      You will likely not find that from any handheld light (1K+ lumens constant) or lantern. You are looking for something high-end and industrial. Good luck.

      @@L5-SARYou are right. But lighting companies can manufacture a larger size and have more batteries so that we can obtain high lumens that last for long hours. But the sizes are all small

      Thanks for your feedback. I've fallen well behind schedule this year having to deal with the care of my elderly mother. If I can ever get caught up, I have three more burn-down timelapses planned. As always ... too many plans ... too little time :) Thanks again.

      That's, unfortunately, the reality of physics. High output requires high power. Long run time necessitates much lower output. Can't have both ... without a lot of potentially damaging heat. That's why I run these tests - so that we can all see where reality actually is. Thank you.

      That's what the elapsed time counter was for (upper left). Only other thing relavant to battery burn down is temperature (upper right). Thank you.
