    Great start on the day that Alan. Cracking views and lovely blue skies. Hello Herdwick. The jets love it over there don’t they? Lovely waterfall, definitely a great place for a stop. Well done keeping up with the gym and walking, well deserved pay off for that. Fantastic top three that Alan. I am a real fan of a Blencathra, it’s the mental psyche out approaching Sharp Edge and seeing it from the A66 and from the mile of flat before you get to the tarn. Sounds very steep. Cracking footage that. Shame about the GoPro over heating. Great miles 👍

    • @AlanMETALMAN
      @AlanMETALMAN  4 місяці тому

      It's perfect for the jets to practice and the amount of times I have just missed them, so real nice to finally catch then. The waterfall was great but not that easy to get to in the wet but in a drought, I suppose it would not be worth the effort. Schoolboy errors with the drone and GoPro, still cannot believe I did either of them lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Gorgeous mountains and lake and I loved the sound of the rushing water, the falls were so beautiful. Shame it was wet, boggy and rocky. You have done well with all of the training 👏

    What a gorgeous day for a hike Alan! A blessing after all the rain and miserable weather, and worth the early rise for sure👍. We love seeing the jets fly over the lakes, so impressive, you had your very own air show there ✈️😊. Wow that waterfall was stunning, looked almost tropical, the lakes just keeps on giving doesn't it. We have never hiked up Mellbreak, but it is certainly on the list, perhaps not from the Buttermere side though😂🙈. Great to see your fitness is back up, always so rewarding when the hard work training pays off on the mountain. An adventurous route! But no need for us to ask why you do it, those views speak for themselves!🤩🙌.

    Gosh Alan, you did make me laugh with all your technical issues - been there and done it too. The day we did Pillar, I forgot my video camera!! But the view down to Buttermere is outstanding, one of the Lakes best views and I'd go back there again and again to see it. The waterfall was superb too, that's where I dropped my phone. Your route was definitely a maverick route but every route needs a pioneer!! The screes at the other end of Mellbreak are what we still have bad memories about. Still it's another wainwright ticked off and you had it all to yourself. Regards, Ashley

    Mr. Alan,
    Pretty weather is back.
    The sky behind you is vivid and lively....very inviting.
    Your voice, and your description, suggest its difficulty of the hiking route from Mellbreak to Buttermere.(excuse my poor knowledge of this area I am not familiar
    Wow you can be exhausted after hiking? You are always energetic. hahah
    Yes, I thought this waterfall is magnificent 4:33 I can hear the forceful water...especially after rain.
    Ooops, sorry about Gopro. I have never had my Gopro over-heated when I hike, but kayaking.
    Hehe you, yourself is over-heated as well?? haha
    I wish Gopro make some improvement on that.
    Another excellent hiking. Will see you next one. Stay healthy, both of you...
    Good night

    Well done Alan I have to admire your adventurous spirit in trying a different route I love the area around Buttermere so that would have been a big enough treat for me. I've only been up Hen Combe twice and would gladly never go again hahaha ... once chest high in bracken & the other time knee deep in bog lol Melbreak is super, after attempting the scree on round one, the next timeI took the path half way along, up from the valley side, steep, but comes out between the two tops and avoids the scree !! Well done in capturing the magnificent views .. I could sit up there looking at that view all day ... I've never seen the waterfall looking as good as that, great shots. Well keep your fingers crossed for me next weekend as Sharp Edge might be on the agenda .. Have done it once before but it was cloudy & you couldn't see the drop !! I'm still dithering about it but will decide on the day haha Thanks for another brilliant video 😊

I have left the GoPro filming inside my pocket before but it has never overheated like that, so I was real pleased it was okay at the end. Fingers crossed for you for Sharp Edge, on a warm, dry, wind free day, it's brilliant but no shame on leaving it for another day if those are not the conditions. Take care and thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

    The ascent of Mellbreak from the other end is no joke either, it snakes up to a gap in the rocks on a steep scree path. did you see the little metal spikes sticking out of the ground by the path on your way up? Cut off fence posts maybe? Incredible views up there.

    • @AlanMETALMAN
      @AlanMETALMAN  4 місяці тому

      Haha, not that scree assent did not seem like a good idea in the wet but then again it was not much better going the way I went, the path was just about none existent and it went over so much wet rock and bracken making progress painfully slow before I got to the waterfall. I was way behind on my schedule by that time, so started making silly mistakes but still, it was a great hike and so pleased to get a bit of sun as well. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

      What I would do now Yasmin is go from the Loweswater side, like everyone else does, starting at Maggie's Bridge car park but instead of the direct, shaley way up Mellbreak, take the path around the base of Mellbreak (around Crummock Water) and up the way I went, much gentler and grassy onto the first summit, which is the Wainwright one. I would then drop back down the same way and then over to Hen Comb, which I found very boggy, so it would be better in the dry weather. From there you could drop back down to the car. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

      To be honest I did not go for a drink, as we were stopping at Centre Parcs and I told Mrs Metalman I would be back before 11.00. Turns out it was almost 14.00 before I got back LOL!

    Well, but you made it Alan and that's what counts! The colors are amazing there.. I am assuming that this is what you've filmed and it was not enhanced in editing ;-)

      I was surprised at how difficult I found it, as it is a relatively small Fell but after pneumonia, my lungs are no way near recovered yet. Good that that son kept waiting for me. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
