Wow. Murray. Award worthy film making. Very beautiful and very powerful. A truly fitting way to say goodbye to your mum. My mum passed in December so this video hit home with me ❤
Murry so sorry you lost your dear mum your video was so moving a beautiful tribute to the person you loved so much and what a spot to read your letter no better place you could have chosen God bless your mum
Lovely tribute to your mum. My num died in Ayrshire hospice and we were all around her when she passed away. We looked at photographs with her and ones of me in Arran looking through my binoculars. She said to my wife that her loving memory of her boy was with his binoculars on his chest and his rucksack on his back. When her will was settled the first thing I bought myself was a new pair of binoculars and a new rucksack. I wear them on every walk and remember her on every hill.
Hello Murray, I'm sorry to hear of your mum's passing. My father took his own life 3 yrs ago this June, while I was doing the Cateran Yomp. The following year I scattered his ashes on top of the Spittal of Glenshee as I was going round the Yomp again. Its good your mum wrote that wee letter and said goodbye. Death is part of life, but it's not easy saying those goodbyes. Thank you for sharing it with us.

My Mam died very suddenly last year, in October me and my wife went to Barra and walked up Heaval. As I neared the summit I became emotional as I felt closer to her. Irrational I know as some of the roads we drove to get to Oban were probably higher. Wish I had a letter then to read from her but sadly she died very suddenly with no prior illness. All I have is lots of love and many good memories.
thank Paul - sorry to hear about your loss. I’ve just sat for the last 2 hours going through all the amazing responses to this vlog (and I’ll admit it’s been very emotional). I usually try and respond to all comments but am struggling this week due to the massive response to this vid. When I was up on the mountain I wasn’t sure about whether I was going to add the letter to my vlog but I shot a few quick videos - just in case I wanted to add it, and to be honest , right up until the final edit I was still unsure as to whether to add his bit. I wasn’t sure if people really wanted to know about this and were more keen to see the magnificent Scottish scenery as opposed to me whittling on some more. However having seen the amazing response to this video I am so glad I left it in. It’s been emotional reading through these comments today (I’ve been bubbling away for most of the morning! ) but I am glad that I have been able to share this with you and that you have been able to confirm and share some of your similar losses through this. For myself the mountains have provided many things throughout my life and this was another occasion where they have given so much to me. Sublime Murray, as usual. And despite what you said, I think you are a spiritual guy. Totally at peace and at one with nature. A different type of religion ☺️
What a beautiful and serene place and time to read the last words of your Mother to you Murray. What a lovely loving thing to do for her Son. Mountains are the only living things strong and silent enough to hold the emotions of such a poignant goodbye, I hope you felt held by the mighty shoulders of the mountain that night. Just saw your excellent interview with Gary Gough, from someone who lives near the foot of Ben Wyvis I totally agree with you that the mountains we have in Assynt the Isle of Skye and Glencoe are the best you can get anywhere in the world. Love your work always a joy to watch. 👍😎
Murray what can I say? I have never cried about a video before. All you know about me most probably is my name. I never intended to be spiritual person as you said. My dad died of cancer when I was 12 and I found my Mum after she had taken her own life when I was 13, and I was left to sort things out for myself. I am now 70 years old and never really got over my loss. I went down the wrong road in my teens, drink! and made a mess of my life. Where could I go? what could I do? -nothing, until I was 19. I was told if I gave my life to Jesus Christ He would forgive me and turn my life around, so I did, and He did and I have never regretted it. To cut a long story short I married a Christian girl when I was 20 we had 4 children and now I have 11 grand children and one great grand son. Why am I telling you this in public, hopefully to help someone like you have done, Thank you for sharing and I really mean it. In this secular world we live in I believe in a creator and your words remind me of that, stunning, fantastic, glorious, amazing, I can't believe it etc. This is what my creator says For the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds, reveals His every thought. He turns the light of dawn into darkness and treads the mountains under His feet. The Lord almighty is His name. Warmest regards Ken.
You said you weren't a very spiritual person but in my eyes each video you share is spiritual to me, what a beautiful place and moment to reflect, remember those we love and be grateful for everything life has to offer.
God speaks to us in many ways and in many places. One of those places is the 'thin space' we suddenly find ourselves in when we 'Go up to the Mountain'. I have witnessed many people who say that they are not particularly 'spiritual' suddenly burst in to tears when they reach that special place amongst Gods Cathedrals. Man cannot emulate what has already been created before he ever existed. When you reach that 'thin space' which is unique to everyone you know you are in a special place as you struggle for words to describe the moment. Namaste from The Way!
Randomly, this played from 4 years ago. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm on The Ethel Challenge and a year to the day my Mum passed I sat on Thorpe Cloud ticking off another peak (nowhere near the size of yours) and had that bit of self reflection, a few tears and put Mum to rest in my mind. I'm not one for marking anniversaries. That's just me, so I thought I'd mark just the first one as Mum didn't want us to grieve. After I got back to civilisation, I found out the Queen had passed away. The anniversary will forever be stuck in my brain now. Mum didn't want a grave, didn't want to be mourned, so we hiked somewhere special and scattered her ashes. So I know how you felt that night. Your Mum would be so proud of you. I've only been a Subscriber a few weeks, but I can see the person behind the camera.
Been trawling through crap all night on UA-cam then find this gem of a film. Absolutley superb mate. What a way to remember someone special. Thanks for the share.
An amazing video that makes me cry.Sorry for your mum! As watched it I wanted to share eternal hope that I found in my King of kings and Lord of Lords."The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Psalm 19. Love you and praying for you.
What a wonderful way to remember your mum. As well as this being one of the best videos I have ever seen of this fantastic area. I am Dutch and have been coming to Scotland for over 45 years and only stood on 183 Munros. Yet, as a ‘flatlandbagger’ I enjoyed your wonderful country many times. This video, especially with the shots from the tops and the music added to it, would have made your mum so proud of you. And I think you could not have got any closer to her, emotionally as well as literally.
Thank you and thanks for watching , much appreciated :) This was the most emotional video I have made and I really appreciate all the kind comments ATB Murray
What a wonderful tribute to your mother. I too have a letter that my Mum wrote knowing she had very little time left, being the eldest son and executor she left it in the biscuit tin under her bed knowing that I and my brothers would have to open it after she had died. Not only clear instructions and address's of bank accounts, building society books, and pension instructions but a wonderful moving letter to us all. What kindness, tenacity and understanding from the one you love and have loved. Wonderful video Murray, Well done !
Thanks Paul - it’s a tough time having to go through these times - sounds like your mum had you all sorted and what a nice way of doing it. Hope you enjoyed the video Thanks for watching Atb Murray

Alright Murray, God bless you and yours what a fantastic video, watched it before and tbph it wasn't until watching your top 10, It never came across how hard it must've been that night for you after reading that letter from your Mum x, been there mate I think you've actually hit the nail.on the head for ME, I think that's why I go hillwalking to be closer to the people we've lost and to get peace to connect. Thanks ATB Brian 👍⛰⛺
What a beautifully captured experience! The careful attention to detail, from hydration to the scenic meals, really brings out the essence of summit camping. Can’t wait to see how you've captured the sunset and sunrise, which are bound to be breathtaking. This blend of nature's beauty with personal storytelling is truly powerful. Keep sharing these wonderful experiences!
There is no other beautiful place on earth where you could have picked to listen to your mums echoing voice in the peace and quiet of Gods creation Gods timing is perfect.god rest her beautiful soul💞🏴
I've watched your videos many times over the years before trips to Scotland. Glad I stumbled upon this one, even if it was 5 years later. Video was so special and had me in tears. Your mom raised a special guy, thanks for sharing these wonderful moments in the hills.
Moms are special! A sentiment I like too share is "when someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure", Anonymous. Mothers are a very special memory. What a magnificent setting to sit and reflect on the life you had with your mum. Peace.
Thanks Don , what kind words Thanks for watching and commenting - very much appreciated ATB Murray Getting closer to the Heavens - An emotional Glencoe Wild camp
Very moving tribute, thanks for sharing, fantastic video. Those conditions and pictures in the Scottish mountains come along now and again but not often, and you cherish them more as you get older.
My dear Murray, what a beautiful way to say farewell to your mother.....just perfect. One thing that I have learned over the years is, that those that have left, never really leave you. You hold them and they are a part of you, and there is great comfort to be had in knowing that. My Mum and Dad were great hill walkers and I can still see them yet with their back packs on complete with woolly bobble hats. I like to think of them wind in their hair and the freedom of our lovely hills and glens. Thank you for sharing such a moment with us.
No movie ever made has come close to this moving tribute to someone special. To be there on that summit on that most perfect evening , most people dream of . Probably as close to heaven and those you love as you could get . I will probably watch this again and again to remind me of the beauty of this special place we call ' Scotland ' . Thank you for sharing.
I'm way behind the times here but only just seen this video, just a lovely perfect way to say goodbye to a loved one, actually brought a tear to my eye. I really like your videos, I still do as much hiking as possible but at 58 I no longer do stuff like this and it's so very very warming to see this beautiful scenery again through your lens, long may you continue to bring us fantastic views. Rip your Mum.
I came to this video from the future! :-) Your link about the photo you took from this evening that you posted in your Campervan Adventure! It's a stunning picture and a wonderful memory and I don't know how you can watch the telly without greetin' when you look at the picture! :-) Thank you for sharing such an intimate moment with us.
Hello Murray just watched this again today the first time we watched it my wife and I were very emotional, a lovely tribute to your mum , thank you for sharing, hope you are well....
Thanks Ray - this still (and will probably always be ) the most special video I have ever done - appreciate the kind comments 🙏 Take care and thanks for watching Murray
I doubt there were many who failed to shed a tear with you Murray. It's been twenty years now, and things are never the same again, but it's the way of this world and life carries on, and we are comforted. May her soul rest in peace.
One of the most moving videos I have ever seen on UA-cam, thank you for sharing this - I lost my father suddenly in November and this resonated with me - it was a privilege to watch it.
Murray, lost my mum last year and did a camp on carn mor dearg on Friday through Saturday and said my farewells on Saturday from a quiet spot on Ben Nevis. Pain like no other but she won't get any closer to heaven in this country than there... So sorry for your loss..
sorry to hear that, but its nice to hear that like myself you found a similar place to head following it. I actually ended up on CMD and The Ben a few weeks after his, and it was another morning where I sat thinking of Mum and reflecting Thanks for watching and your kind words - very much appreciated ATB Murray Getting closer to the Heavens - An emotional Glencoe Wild camp
Scotland's Mountains Thanks so much Murray for kind words and reply.. Your fun loving approach and real love of these dear to me hills and quiet places are sometimes the highlight of a dreich day.. They always fill me with optimism and motivation for getting out and when I saw your latest I actually dreaded watching it due to the feelings it would probably wake within me... So glad I watched it as it was a beautiful and touching tribute to both your mum and the hills. Also sent it my best pal who accompanied me on my trip to say goodbye to his mum with me and he said what has already been said many times.. Very emotional and beautiful too.... Thanks so much again for all the work you put in to these videos and I hope you're never pinched by some big tv company 😉
I only found your chanel today, binge watched few productions and must say I was swept off my feet with quality of every one of them. But this, my friend, this is something special. I'm not spiritual either, I wouldn't say I'm sensitive much, but I struggle to express emotions in this comment. Beautiful tribute to your mum, thank you for sharing this very private moment with us.
Your mother will always be with you as mine is with me, they are special people. What a beautiful way to say goodbye. Tears in my eyes as I write this. Thank you Murray for such a superb video, please keep up the great work.
I've yet to see anyone equal this guy when it comes to making mountain videos. I loved this man's Ben Nevis video, it took me back to mine and a friend's night sleeping in the shelter on the summit, it was the most stunning morning I've ever experienced. Regardless of the adventures I have had around the world since, that winter evening/morning on 'the Ben' will always be a special experience...me, my oldest friend, the view, the snow, the hot chocolate and a hardfaced Robin Redbreast - thank you for reminding me of a truly special morning.
Very moving Murray. An incredibly poignant vlog set to some wonderful music and stunning colours, I lost my Mum when I was 21 and this brought back some memories, and reminded me that I haven't been back to where we scattered her ashes on Ingleborough for some time now. Time for another dander up methinks
You did it again Murray, fantastic video, fantastic views. There’s something about this that makes me think it was meant. Last parking space, great weather, little patch of grass just big enough for your pitch. And the peace and tranquility of a mountain top and stunning views to read your mums letter. Thanks for sharing, your mum would be so proud of you. Chin up mate and just keep doing what your doing.
Beautiful video and a lovely gesture to your mum. I hope to start exploring bonnie Scotland myself soon, lived here all my life and feel like I’m missing so much living in Glasgow.
Wonderful and emotional video which had me moist-eyed at the end . . . my sincere condolences for your loss. My dad was born in Lairg and got me climbing the Scottish hills when I was five . . . which, 69 years on, I'm still doing. When he died, I scattered his ashes on the first mountain we climbed together . . . his beloved Ben Klibreck in Sutherland. Whenever I see the mountain (I now live in Vancouver) it's so comforting to know he's there. I hope you find the same comfort in the timeless hills.
Oh Murray, come to watch this following your March 2024 video. What a beautiful place to be alone with your own thoughts reading the letter from your late mum.
What a wonderful video its a shame your mum couldn't see it but I am sure she is up there looking down on you and feeling very proud. I have spent many hundreds of days and nights in the Highlands and I love watching your videos. I am old and not so fit now and living in Spain but looking at the walks in the highlands always makes me very emotional I had wonderful times there. Fill your boots Murray time goes so quickly.
I offer my sincere condolences for your Mum. This beautiful video has some special meaning for me too; I have just lost my Mum, her funeral will be this Monday. When I was younger, she waited for me with my brother at "base camp" while I traversed the Aonach Eagach, climbed Bidean nam Bian and the Buchaille, aged 18. I really appreciate the quality of the videos you produce! Truly stunning!
I’m actually lost for words but felt I had to comment - this video was so beautiful. I hope the letter brought you peace & comfort during this difficult time. Thank you for sharing this private moment in an incredible way.
Well Murray you could have so easily kept this special meaningful climb just to yourself and no-one could have blamed you for it. Instead you decided to share such a private moment by creating a wonderful film and sharing it with us all. So thank you so very much for doing so I am deeply sorry for you losing your Mum my thoughts have been with you since you said you had lost a close family member a few weeks back. I feel like in some way she was with you up there and that she had sorted out that soft area of grass just for you. Take care Murray and just one more thing that was an amazing image you captured up there and I think it will remind you of your Mum every time you look at it . A fitting tribute to your Mum atb Teddy

I've only been a Subscriber a few weeks, but I can see the person behind the camera.
Been trawling through crap all night on UA-cam then find this gem of a film.
Absolutley superb mate.
What a way to remember someone special.
Thanks for the share.

Beautiful and very moving tribute to your mums memory.
An amazing video that makes me cry.Sorry for your mum! As watched it I wanted to share eternal hope that I found in my King of kings and Lord of Lords."The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Psalm 19. Love you and praying for you.
Brother, I wish I had you as a neighbor, I like to camp, take in the view, and drink large amounts of teas from everywhere a lot.
Thank you and thanks for watching , much appreciated :) This was the most emotional video I have made and I really appreciate all the kind comments

Hope you enjoyed the video

A beautiful video. And a beautiful way to say goodbye to your Mum.❤

🙏 this is easily the video I am most proud of 🙏
Moms are special! A sentiment I like too share is "when someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure", Anonymous. Mothers are a very special memory. What a magnificent setting to sit and reflect on the life you had with your mum. Peace.
Thanks Don , what kind words

Moved to tears.
Thanks for watching and your kind words - very much appreciated

No movie ever made has come close to this moving tribute to someone special. To be there on that summit on that most perfect evening , most people dream of . Probably as close to heaven and those you love as you could get . I will probably watch this again and again to remind me of the beauty of this special place we call ' Scotland ' . Thank you for sharing.
A lovely tribute to your Mum. Well done and you handled with dignity.
Thanks Phil - very much appreciated 🙏
I climbed this at 58 and climbed back down at 59 🙃
I came to this video from the future!
Thanks Ray - this still (and will probably always be ) the most special video I have ever done - appreciate the kind comments 🙏
Take care and thanks for watching

I doubt there were many who failed to shed a tear with you Murray.
It's been twenty years now, and things are never the same again, but it's the way of this world and life carries on, and we are comforted. May her soul rest in peace.
One of the most moving videos I have ever seen on UA-cam, thank you for sharing this - I lost my father suddenly in November and this resonated with me - it was a privilege to watch it.
Beautiful video and an inspiring setting for a tribute to your Mum. Truly stunning!
I know it's a long time after the event but I know your mum would be proud of how you dealt with your loss and how you shared it with us all x
Just an amazing video. What a tribute.
Big fan. You inspired me to get out. Only just seen this one. Sorry for your loss. I’m sure she was extremely proud. A Great video. Emotional.
I actually ended up on CMD and The Ben a few weeks after his, and it was another morning where I sat thinking of Mum and reflecting

Over used ....but....Epic. Emotional. Beautiful. I'm glad I could experience at a distance but felt close. Thank you for your effort.
the best filming I have watched of the Glencoe mountains and yes an emotional end.
Your mother will always be with you as mine is with me, they are special people. What a beautiful way to say goodbye. Tears in my eyes as I write this. Thank you Murray for such a superb video, please keep up the great work.
Done me fella... beautiful.
Done your mam proud Murray, another wonderful film. Splendid.
Thanks Johnny

Beautiful video and a lovely gesture to your mum. I hope to start exploring bonnie Scotland myself soon, lived here all my life and feel like I’m missing so much living in Glasgow.
How beautiful.

Beautiful piece of film.
A friend sent me this video ( I hiked the Great Glen Way & West Highland Way this past Oct & fell in love with Scotland) & this video touched my heart. I hiked the PCT in America & felt such a connection to my mom and dad out there so I can relate to you wanting to read the letter from your mom up there. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful tribute to your mom & of course the amazing views over there in Scotland.
Beautiful, God's country. I enjoyed the views.
