  • Today I will show you how to fix a noisy resonator. The resonator is often mistaken as a muffler. This is a super simple resonator replacement without welding.

    I was going to try your fireplace mortar patch. Resonator is split at the seam almost exactly like that one. 2010 Terrain. Nice work! I think I’ll just do the swap. 👍

      All the terrains and equinoxs split here eventually. Mortar lasted only 4 months. This is definitely worth the swap. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

    Thank you so much for this! I’ve been trying to patch that stupid hole for over a year, and just like yours it just keeps falling off. As soon as I get the cash for the part, I will FINALLY be able to not be the loudest car on the block anymore!! I’ll comment my results. Thanks again in advance!

      You’re welcome. These vehicles always split in the same spot. Surprised how easy this fix was. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe. I look forward to your results.

    Thanks for the detailed info. Going to try this on mine here real soon. My initial fix was worm clamping sheet metal around the resonator but eventually that burned up and blew out 😂

      Yes I did many patches on mine. Patching is only temporary. The only true fix is actually replacing it. Glad you found this video. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

    Funny I need to do this and the control arm fix you basically covered in your video. Gotta keep these old things going 😵‍💫

    Cut a piece of stove pipe to length, wrap it around the resonator, use long hose clamps to attach.

      This is a video for how to replace the faulty resonator. Not how to patch it.

      I have also used soda and soup cans to keep the patch in place. A much cheaper fix that lasts a long time.

    I think that direction (or placement) of the bolts for the rear clamp is incorrect. The bolts should not protrude beyond the pipe, so that it is not possible to hook anything with them.
    Thanks for the video!

      The direction of placement of the clamp does not matter in the slightest. They have somewhere between 10-12 inches clearance from the ground. I don’t drive reckless enough that they would bottom out or hook anything. If something takes that clamp off at 11 inches off the ground I would have already ripped off my bumper that sits stock 7 inches from the ground along with the oil pan and trans pan being damaged. Please don’t be that person who has to find the smallest thing to point out.

    Today I replaced this part like in this video, but it was not so quick and easy, because muffler didn’t want to come off in that place where was clamp

      Did you bend it back and forth like I showed in the video? After the clamp is cut if you set the other end of the cut pipe on the ground and then put your weight onto the clamped portion it will spread the pipe. The pipe has slits where it was spread at the factory. Pulling it back and forth will pop those slits open and make it easy. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

    Hello. Does your car burn oil? What is the oil consumption?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  7 місяців тому +2

      It does not burn and oil. I change my oil every 6000km and I’m only usually missing a 1/2 quart in that drain intervals which is normal for any car.

    Could I leave an extra 3-4 inches and toss a pipe expander in to avoid using the tape?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  Місяць тому

      Yes that is an option. In that case you will need a 2.5” lap joint band clamp to join the 2.5” ID pipe to the newly expanded 2.5” OD pipe. Here is a link to one: a.co/d/0dTi4Awg
      Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

      sweet was going to do it myself and then figure why not just get my mechanic buddy to do it since he can weld it and be much better but he is strongly advising me to go with the walker ss instead since it's stainless and we're in michigan so the winters are harsher. says I'd be lucky to make it a year

    Gonna do this on my 15 too. Same leak on the res, has been sounding horrific since i passed 102k miles. Gonna skip the mortar and go to a replacement. Found the individual resonator itself with 2 ends for about 60 on ebay and i’m gonna snag that. Is there any advantage to buying the one with the pipe to the header as well? Thanks as always

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016

      The supplier I got this from didn’t have just the resonator when I needed it. Other suppliers that had just the resonator were the same cost as this one with the pipe. So I figured for the same cost might as well replace the pipe with it. That’s literally the only reason I did the pipe with it. No advantages either way. Thanks for watching

    Is there anything we can coat the resonator/Muffler with in order to keep it from Rusting out again?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  3 місяці тому

      It is not advisable to spray anything on the exhaust system as it may react with the heat. Sprays may cause smoke and toxic fumes. These aftermarket resonators are made much more durable than the factory ones. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
