For edging I always put the extra board next to the clamp so the board I'm edging hits all the stops and I get less bouncing at the start and finish. I'm 68 (my brother is 66) and the adjustable legs saved me us a lot of frustration. Another tip, don't unhook from your truck if you're on a slope unless you have the wheels chocked (my brother didn't really NEED that fence).

Frank, thanks for watching! One advantage to having the extra board on the inside is that you can use the toe boards to get a level cut if one side is much bigger than the other. Otherwise I totally agree. Learned a lot this year.

Good tips and lessons... I like the toe board one and definitely agree the stock outriggers are my least favorite part of the mill. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing what you do with the mill! - Josh

Thanks Josh, appreciate the feedback. I need to build a structure next year to cover the mill, to extend my season and allow me to saw in inclement weather. Too many projects and too little time. :)

Great overview! I agree with you about the outriggers. Funny thing is that the de-barker not engaging got me as well. I messed with it forever and then just gave up and then immediately discovered it was tied to the head travel function lever.

Glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one. Hopefully it helps someone else out.

Nice video. I learned some things. I put in an order for an LT35HD way back in Feb '22. It won't show up until some time late next summer. Ugh. Don't forget to lower the hitch again when you pull it back out!!! Would be a drag (literally) to crash the head into the roof rafters.
Have you joined the Forestry Forum? There's a very active sawmill forum there, tons of Wood-Mizer people there.

Thanks for the feedback! You will really enjoy it when you get it. I had an LT15GO previously which worked really well but there is a lot of new stuff to learn on the LT35 Hydraulic. You will get used to it fairly quickly. The one thing that I still mess up sometimes is hitting the lever on the right instead of the one on the left to advance the mill head. The one on the right raises and lowers the head. Not a good thing to do if the blade is already in the wood. Luckily I haven't broken a blade yet. I think it is because I am right handed and it seems backwards to me. I just slow down to try and not make those mistakes.
I definitely will be extra careful when I pull the mill out. :)
I sometimes go on some of the Forums, usually I look for a video first because I am a visual learner.

The hydraulic log clamp head rotates so it will secure the smaller boards but it will score into the wood if you are not careful

@tomharris418 I didn’t realize that, thanks for another tip!

Was wondering what you had for a mill before the LT35? I have an LT15 and am finding that as I get older the hydraulic mill is looking much more appealing.

I had an LT15GO. Same reason why I upgraded.

Any advice? Was the LT35 enough of a machine or do you wish you went larger?

@@thatguyc5899 The only thing I might consider is the LT40Wide because the throat on the LT35 is 26" which occasionally gets
in the way. For a while they were doing a free up grade to wide. The LT40 has 28" throat which goes to 34" if you get the wide model.
The LT35 doesn't offer a wide model. Probably about $7500 more to go to the LT40 Wide. I have the gas engine, the Diesel is another $6K for the LT35. It is a little
slow when you are going through wide boards, but if you get down to smaller cants 12" or less, it moves pretty quickly through the logs.
I have to go slow when it is hard wood and I am using the debarker on wide pieces. Not to big of a deal. As always it is always about how
much you want to spend. If you aren't trying to do production work it the gas engine is fine. I don't think I could go back to the LT15 now that I
have upgraded. Resale is almost what I paid for the LT15 4 years previously. They hold their value. Sold in only a couple of days.

@@thatguyc5899 not a problem. Good luck! Definitely get the optional fine adjustment outriggers. The ones that came with it are very hard to use. They were expensive but worth it.
