Hey Alan, thanks for all the help and great advice you give with your fantastic videos. I know you are now living in the Philippines and probably haven't seen a MK5 Mondeo in a while, but I wondered if you could give me some advice please. I have both a Ford Mondeo MK5 and a Ford Edge Sport 2017. Both have the 2.0 Ltr Duratorq-TDCi engine. Unfortunately since owning the Edge I have had a problem starting it from cold. Once started the car drives fine, apart from only getting around 30mpg when Ford tell me I should be getting at least 40. It's been in to my local Ford Dealer and they said it could be the timing is out as it looks as though it's had a new belt. The car has only covered 52,000 miles. The timing was OK. Then they suggested the high pressure fuel pump timing might be out. So thanks to your wonderful video, I checked that myself and it is fine. Also the spring for the valve has not broken. Ford tell me that they don't believe it to be an electrical issue as no fault codes show up. As I have said the car feels and sounds OK to drive. Do you have any ideas what it could be? Oh, and why I have your attention, do you have any advice on setting up the gear linkage cables. The gears seem a bit knotchy and stiff to change up and down. Clutch seems to be OK. Cheers Alan. I really enjoy your videos. All the best, Scott Borrowman
hi Scott, these engines don't normally suffer from bad starting but did you remove the top cam belt cover and fit a pin in the cam and crank holes to see if the valve timing is definitely aligned. usually if the valve timing was out it will bring the engine management lamp on. a bad injector leaking too much fuel through the leak off pipe could cause poor starting as also a problem with the ecu could also...we have had our share of ecu issues but thats a last resort. sounds like one of those problems but when you say bad starting...how many revolutions before it fires up, good luck
Hi Alan, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Yes Ford used the correct tools for checking the crankshaft timing. I did remove the top cam cover and lined up the holes with a 6mm drill bit when I checked the fuel pump timing. No engine lights have come on. Do you think it could be a fault with the tank pump driver module? It takes about 10 seconds to start from cold, not sure how many revolutions. Thank you for the advice. I will follow your video for checking the injector leak off pipes and go from there. See Ya!! 😂
we have a 2012 galaxy 2l diesel, it has started throwing loads of blue smoke out the exhaust on sunday, im in the middle of investigating as i suspected the turbo, but today i found a lot of oil under the diesel pump so it looks like i need to get that off tomorrow as well, is there any way this could be tha cause of the blue smoke or is that wishfull thinking. or could this be the reason the turbo may have failed. great videos and very informative, thanks for them
Hello Alan I have a ford s max 2.0 BITURBO TDCI with 210 hp and have the following concern when I drive on the freeway and step on the gas, the warning sign comes up (see manual) and it no longer takes gas if I pull over and stop, it goes out but it starts up normally again after I watched your videos, I got that The high-pressure pump was removed and I took a look at it, but everything looked the way it should when I connect the diagnostic device and the error messages come up P02FA P228C P0087
Hi alan I have similar engine like this dw10fd on citroen C4 picasso 2.0 blue hdi my CYLINDER HEAD is completely damaged have you any tutorial how to remove/install it pleease?
Hi Alan, I have a ford mondei mk 5 2.0 150 hpi and when it is first started from cold it makes a knock until it warms up, the distribution and chain have been changed, the injectors are good check, can you help me what is wrong with the car?
Alan, I'm confused because, in a previous video, you clearly say the timing pin goes in the hole above the smaller one... So which one is correct, please
Hi Alan, i want to ask something, the car s-max 2016 year 2.0 tdci 150 hp, and i don't like how is starting when it's cold, I've placed new battery, i changed candels all 4 new! I change the relay of candle, but i don't see the differences, it's seems like battery is low and the engine is starting without candels... Thanks
Great video Alan i hope i dont ever have to mess with the pump, i do have to change the long brakes pipes on my connect and they disappear under the tank going to be a nightmare using axle stands, you mentioned changing the fuel filter could there be a air locking issue on my 1.8 tdci its never been changed, keep up the quality content.
we just changed brake pipes on connect...dropped tank down..yes time consuming. there is no in tank pump on your connect so it would be best to fill the new filter with fuel before starting it and even then it may not start and need a hand primer pump to draw the fuel through the pump
Hi Alan, how to the 2 fuel pipes come off, the ones that go to the fuel filter and rail I think. I take it you need to use a pic to get them out, held in with 4 clips
there is a little tab in the middle of the plastic clip that pushes in...you pull the centre clip out with a pick..then push the outer part of the clip in and pull the pipe off..if that makes any sense lol
@@alan4x cheers Alan, will do it tomorrow. May or may not have snapped the clip when screwing the fuel filter back in after changing it. Didn’t remove it from the engine. Trying to rush it doesn’t work. Pitty don’t have a car sitting but I will do on Monday when the new car goes on as a taxi 😳😳 make mistakes then learn from them I guess
Good day I have a question I have ford kuga 2013 2.0 tdci 100kw he starts engine after 10 seconds stops again and after that just does not do anything he does not always you can help me thanks in advance
Hi Alan could you please let me know what to do with this Mercedes Benz 2010 C250 code p0087-00 The fuel pressure is too low And also when I get over 60 mph wanting to take over I get the code and Car go to Limp mode less power Thank you
First of all, this is an outstanding video!! Iv just replaced my high pressure pump but have seen the cambelt is missing some teeth..... Are these engines interference or non interference? Don't want to do the cambelt if the engine is going to be scrap! 2015 ford kuga 2.0 tdci 150psi
Hi. These engines are interference but they are designed to break the valve rockers should the pistons hit the valves. I have never seen a bent valve on one of these engines however if the rockers are broken obviously the camshaft cover needs to be removed. There are 16 rockers which are not cheap and at that point of repair definitely fit a new timing chain and tensioner.
Yep, 8 rockers damaged!! Replaced all 8 and cambelt replaced, back together and all working!! 😁😁 Thanks for your great videos and comments, I live in Cambridge so if I see you around I'll get you a beer, thanks again! 👌
Hi Alan! Super useful video! Do you have one on the DW10C with the A050A pump on it? My C5 has been sending me low fuel pressure error and I’ve gotten a new pump ready to go on
there is more chance of your fuel injectors causing your low fuel pressure than the pump..i would carry out a fuel injector leak off test before condemning the pump
Hi Alan, can you tell me if you ever had to change the oil seal under the sprocket (time 15:00)? The number of this seal is Delphi 7190-266 (I don't know the ford part number). I wonder if there might be a leaking issue as well.
@@alan4x No, I didn't mean the o-ring, but the oil seal which is under the sprocket (you need to take it off first to get there, there are actually two seals). The seal looks similar to the one in the engine and driveshaft.
@@alan4x I assume you never have changed that oil seal :) Here is the link (ua-cam.com/video/iTY4_XbehMQ/v-deo.html) where a guy shows how he replaces the oil seal under the pump sprocket (about time16:32). He also shows a small hole where the oil is leaking when the seal is broken, so even if you replace the o-ring it can by pass through the oil seal. Maybe this is the answer if the pump is leaking again soon after you change gaskets. I wounder what you think about that, how long, how many miles did your taxis do before pump started leaking again? I'm in the middle of replacing gaskets on my pump, but I'm not sure of changing this oil seal under the sprocket at the moment, maybe for the second time when I'll see leaks again.
Hi Allan I replaced the gasket, 0 ring and the seal on my pump because it was leaking it was okay for few days then the same thing happened again it started to leak. Any suggestions please. Thank you
Hi alan I have come across ECU Problems with machines we look after i,m sure the modern ECU don't stand up to what's thrown at them love the channel can you make the ECU a test ECU we run with perkins Engines and can do that for testing and we also keep spare ECU for testing
Good vid, I love how the mk5 looks, but don't think I'll ever bother owning one now, will keep my mk4 until it gasps it's last😂 I had a catastrophic fail on it during the week!!,the boot badge fell off!!🤣 What will they replace the Mondeo with next at your garage Alan? Kia,Hyundai or stick with whatever Ford replaces he Mondeo with?
Hi mk4 owner, while changing gasket on mk4 do we need to time camshafts n pump? I have oil leak , thinkin ti do my self but not doin it cause of that question i asked.
Best channel on UA-cam! I have a mk4 mondeo 2.0tdci 2011 facelift, is it the same procedure for hpfp removal or do you have a vid doing this on the mk 4
it is similar but you have a different pump..you need to remove the battery and battery tray..then you can see the pump better and remove the pipes and three bolts holding it on...your pump does not need to be timed up

Hello Alan, one question ..... I have a mk4 1.8 tdci 2008 and when the engine its hot ,its start realy hard. What it can be the problem? I change the temperature sensor, the crankshaft sensor and nothing. Thank you!
Alan, does the 2015 Mondeo MK5 1.5 litre diesel engine have as many issues as the 2.0 litre engine? I'm on 85,000 miles with full main dealer service history, can i expect trouble soon?
Love the videos Alan, you header 😂. Keep them going 👍 Does the mk4 2.0 and 2.2 psa engine leak oil from that housing? Are they the same lumps as these mk5's?
hi, the mk4 does not have that housing..the pump on the mk4 bolts straight onto the cylinder head with a gasket...not an "o" ring...mk4 and mk5 are similar but not the same
Hello. I watch your videos and they're very interested and helpful. I'd like to ask you if you can make a video, [how can i check the fuel pump in the tank of a ford transit connect 1800 disel ,code engine HCPA. Thanks in advance Petros Santorini island Greece.

Best channel on UA-cam! I have a mk4 mondeo 2.0tdci 2011 facelift. Drives ok generally but feels like it's missing low rpm overboost and a bit of throttle response. Any ideas?
Hi Alan, is this the same engine that is in the 2015 focus st tdci, I randomly get a load of oily smoke coming out from somewhere under where the batt, air filter is etc, usually after some "spirited" driving, turn engine off and in again and it stops, someone mentioned on a forum that it could be oil leaking from the high pressure fuel pump, any ideas?, great video as usual by the way
WOW. I have EXACTLY the same problem. Only really noticed after removing the dpf. So far swapped turbo and injectors. Completed a compression and leak off test. I currently have a ecu company looking at my stage 3 file but they can’t find anything unusual with the tune
Nice video again mr Howatt ! Is it advisable to change the chain then? Oh yes and by the way a engine can be fitted in a day providing you have all the parts etc ready !
i would not advise changing the chain unless it is noisey, lol yes i know you can change engine in a day..iy was just the way the driver said it like it was an hours job🤣
Great explanation as always. I'll be a little bit offtopic: Did you ever have to change the little turbo Oil feed pipe Filter? I'll give you a part number so you understand what i'm on about. These might be really problematic on high mileage diesel cars (as proven on the focuses): Part NO: 9P424 or 1336616. I've got a 210PS diesel and i'm worried that this filter might be causing problems (being a high mileage car.)
i know what you mean..never had to replace one on the taxis as they get the oil changes but for cars with lack of oil changes and short journeys they can back up with carbon
Hello Alan! It is possible to lose 1L of oil at the pump oring. In 3000 miles I removed the oil from the engine and I still had 4.24 L from 6L. It is the same engine. The car has 45,000 miles with complete history at the Ford dealership. thanks!
Hi, great vid. Just for information, can this "HP fuel pump timing thing" be an issue on a MK2 Focus with 2.0 TDCi DW10 engine with Siemens engine managment? Thanks
Dw10 completly diffrent dw10 is pump on the end of exhaust cam and then the hp one is run off the timing belt.... I have known of the pump on the cam to snap the end of the cam.... which results in low fuel pressure codes and vey poor running if it will run at all
on the mk4 mondeos i not had a chain tensioner fail yet...had a couple fail on the mk5 and we do change the oil regular ..proper ford oil..because of the amount of work involved i would not change the chain unless for some reason it did get noisy then i would change the lot
anybody got an idea to this dilema got a clutch conversion done on mk3 mondeo the fucking engines reving flat out and to stop it have to turn the car off ant ideas ?
Hi, Ford Johnson's have kindly advised me today after its service of a leaking engine sump, which appears to be a minor drip, and a external leak coming from the high pressure fuel pump.. im not experiencing any loss of power, fault codes or limp modes, you can imagine the cost they quoted considering they want £80 to replace a rear number plate bulb ..
I get the impression that the mk5 mondeo is a very unreliable car to own Alan which is sad because I would love to own one if it was as reliable as a Skoda Octavia
Don't count your chickens.... my money is on those valves being bent, hope I'm wrong but the kind of luck I have, if you chopped a woman in half I'd get the half that eats.

when I drive on the freeway and step on the gas, the warning sign comes up (see manual) and it no longer takes gas if I pull over and stop, it goes out but it starts up normally again after I watched your videos, I got that The high-pressure pump was removed and I took a look at it, but everything looked the way it should when I connect the diagnostic device and the error messages come up

my CYLINDER HEAD is completely damaged
have you any tutorial how to remove/install it pleease?
@@alan4x Thanks Alan.
Hi Al, how long does it take to swop the pump
Good day I have a question I have ford kuga 2013 2.0 tdci 100kw he starts engine after 10 seconds stops again and after that just does not do anything he does not always you can help me thanks in advance
Hi Alan could you please let me know what to do with this Mercedes Benz 2010 C250 code p0087-00 The fuel pressure is too low And also when I get over 60 mph wanting to take over I get the code and Car go to Limp mode less power
Thank you
Great how to video thanks
Hi Alan.
I don't suppose you have a spare Spring for the HP Fuel Pump that I can have do you, from your mate that made them for you?
yes i have a few...i can put it on ebay for you
@@alan4x Cool.
Post up the link here when you've listed it please.

high pressure fuel pump spring, ford mondeo mk5 2 litre diesel
@@alan4x thanks for your reply, I'll let you no the outcome when I get the new belt on 👍
Yep, 8 rockers damaged!!
Replaced all 8 and cambelt replaced, back together and all working!! 😁😁
Thanks for your great videos and comments, I live in Cambridge so if I see you around I'll get you a beer, thanks again! 👌
I wonder if there might be a leaking issue as well.
if you mean the "o" ring seal behind the pump sprocket then i would fit a new one every time the pump is removed
Well explained thank You
Good vid,
I love how the mk5 looks,but don't think I'll ever bother owning one now,will keep my mk4 until it gasps it's last😂
I had a catastrophic fail on it during the week!!,the boot badge fell off!!🤣
What will they replace the Mondeo with next at your garage Alan?
Kia,Hyundai or stick with whatever Ford replaces he Mondeo with?
lol, i have no idea what will replace the mk5
Hi mk4 owner, while changing gasket on mk4 do we need to time camshafts n pump? I have oil leak , thinkin ti do my self but not doin it cause of that question i asked.
Nice video mate. New subscriber here bloody good 👍
Best channel on UA-cam! I have a mk4 mondeo 2.0tdci 2011 facelift, is it the same procedure for hpfp removal or do you have a vid doing this on the mk 4
it is similar but you have a different pump..you need to remove the battery and battery tray..then you can see the pump better and remove the pipes and three bolts holding it on...your pump does not need to be timed up
@@alan4x thats great thanks mate and all the best

Hello Alan,one question .....
I have a mk4 1.8 tdci 2008 and when the engine its hot ,its start realy hard.
What it can be the problem?
I change the temperature sensor, the crankshaft sensor and nothing.
Thank you!
Hi Alan,is the spring for the fuel pump available by itself?
Cheers
i don't think it is but i have some from a guy who had some made
Alan, does the 2015 Mondeo MK5 1.5 litre diesel engine have as many issues as the 2.0 litre engine? I'm on 85,000 miles with full main dealer service history, can i expect trouble soon?
Hi, friend! How much Bar should the pump in the fuel tank produce on this engine?
6-7 bar
Hi Alan where is Monica from originally? 😊 Is she Polish by any chance?
Love the videos Alan, you header 😂. Keep them going 👍
Does the mk4 2.0 and 2.2 psa engine leak oil from that housing? Are they the same lumps as these mk5's?
hi, the mk4 does not have that housing..the pump on the mk4 bolts straight onto the cylinder head with a gasket...not an "o" ring...mk4 and mk5 are similar but not the same
@@alan4x thank god for that! Glad I went with the mk4 2.2 now mate lol.
Thanks for the reply, only 13 days of comments to catch up on now 😂
Hi does mk4 pump need to time with cam shaft?
Hello.
I watch your videos and they're very interested and helpful.
I'd like to ask you if you can make a video, [how can i check the fuel pump in the tank of a ford transit connect 1800 disel ,code engine HCPA.

Hi bro, is it normal for these ford high pressuer fuel pumps to have abit oil under it, as you showed
yes they are very common for leaking oil
@@alan4x tha ks for your earli reply, my car is 2010 2tdci, runs fine , smooth, as I was cleaning around engine just saw some oil around the fuel pump under it, cleaned it all up, drove another 100miles,and I run my finger around the gasket just see like a residue of oil, I don't know if its old oil , or new as I just bought the car 1month ago,. How can I define this leak, its mot dripping no where , only if I run a my finger on it after a drive when everything is hot, is it normal for it have like a minor sweaty oil residue??
@@alan4x do I have to change the fuel pump or is there a gasket, I drove 100miles I didn't see no oil leaking unless I run my finger around the gasket all I get is little line of sweaty oil on my finger, and if I run my finger again kn the gasket it's all clean, is this normal or I got somthing to worry for, could it just be anit of sweat from the heat mixed with dust looking like oil , or would u say its a leak
@@nazzeb1477 if there is only a minute sweating of oil i would not worry about it, when the fuel pump and its hosing gaskets leak they drip quite a lot and need to be fixed but such a small amount is not worth the hassle

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
Nice video again mr Howatt !
Is it advisable to change the chain then?
Oh yes and by the way a engine can be fitted in a day providing you have all the parts etc ready !
i would not advise changing the chain unless it is noisey, lol yes i know you can change engine in a day..iy was just the way the driver said it like it was an hours job🤣
Once again thanks mr Howatt!
Your a star ........
@@alan4x Thanks a lot for the answer. I'm looking forward to your next instructive video ;)
Hello Alan! It is possible to lose 1L of oil at the pump oring. In 3000 miles I removed the oil from the engine and I still had 4.24 L from 6L. It is the same engine. The car has 45,000 miles with complete history at the Ford dealership. thanks!
it would have to be a big leak to lose that amount...some of those engines burn a bit of oil but i think they get better over time
good the way in uk most wee garages can do an mot not the case in northern ireland
I have known of the pump on the cam to snap the end of the cam.... which results in low fuel pressure codes and vey poor running if it will run at all
no.. the pump on the dw10 does not have a toothed cog drive and does not need to be timed up
DW10 Peugeot engine?
Halldór Ragnarsson yess euro 6 2.0 HDI
is it same in a mk4 mondeo 2,0??
no the mk4 is totally different setup and engine
alan why do you like to perv on that poor girl lollol great video dude
Alan, great video. Is it advisable to replace the Mondeo chain tensioner at maybe 200k or are tensioner failures an unusual event?
on the mk4 mondeos i not had a chain tensioner fail yet...had a couple fail on the mk5 and we do change the oil regular ..proper ford oil..because of the amount of work involved i would not change the chain unless for some reason it did get noisy then i would change the lot

Hi,
Ford Johnson's have kindly advised me today after its service of a leaking engine sump, which appears to be a minor drip, and a external leak coming from the high pressure fuel pump.. im not experiencing any loss of power, fault codes or limp modes, you can imagine the cost they quoted considering they want £80 to replace a rear number plate bulb ..
Just stick a bit of black tape over that annoying red light, she'll be right mate, good to go.
