htku rtku must feel so good to see those kids feel happy and special for a day... Something most take for granted ,but times can be tough ,and it can happen to anyone... It’s definitely not fair when the innocence of childhood is affected by adulthood problems. It is great to know that a few extraordinary people can change a life even if it’s temporary though..Great work!
I think all grandpas are baby whisperers ...my sister's kid (50days old) will cry if she hears grandpas sound, just to be in his hands..sleeps on his chest most of the time.
Or simply that grandpas are generally retired so their pace of life is slower and calmer. They can sit with a baby without being impatient or anxious about needing to do a dozen other things. And they’ve raised at least one child successfully in contrast to the parents who are often new to it all and bombarded with advice on when and how the baby should be sleeping and eating.
The beachcomber found 3 messages his first year then went on to average 3 bottles per month for the next 33 years. I didn't realize messages in bottles were even a thing. The more you know... 🤔👍
@Cæke Grew up 90 minutes from the coast so spent time at beaches every summer. Typical childhood learning how to swim and surf...and was taught not to throw anything into the ocean. Regular stuff like that.
This just blew my mind. I am currently writing a paper on "My Gratitude Journey" over his book "Thanks a Thousand". Insane that I just stumbled upon this video literally after I stated writing...
What about the first one though? I don't really see what's so special about an old man that collects messages in bottles. Sure it's cool, but do I really need to be thankful for it. :/
KiritoBloodfist i think it’s kind of sweet, to think that maybe someone is going to find the message you sent out into the ocean (which makes it a small chance of anyone finding it). maybe it’s me being sentimental but i like it
David Deutchman's story is so precious to me because I was an extremely premature, low-weight baby in the winter and spring of 1966 at a time when parents were discouraged from/ extremely limited in the amount of time they could spend at the NICU with their children in incubators. I spent my first six months in the hospital. I have often imagined what my earliest hours and days must have been like and how I might have felt under the care of nurses and other staff members. Now that we know more about the importance of touch and bonding from the earliest hours, David Deutchman's volunteering as well as that of so many others, is beyond measure for the many of us who don't have access to extended caring human contact in these hospital settings. Thank you for sharing David's story and Thank you David!
Hey Great Big Story, Thank you for this awesome video. Four great stories in less than 12 minutes and each one is fabulous. Thanks to all your team members for all the effort that went into making the video.
Back in the 50s when I was born premature, the standard care was putting babies in isolets to keep them safe from infection. The downside was having little physical interaction during the month I stayed at the hospital. Long term effects? Not much, except that I'm claustrophobic to the point that I have to be sedated for an MRI 😵
it’s so nice to see that in a world of evil and suffering, people can still be great people. it warms my heart to see people being so kind and considerate to other human beings.
I dig these people so much I think the dude who thanked all the people who brought him coffee is under appreciated and not just the baby whisperer and the extra ordinary birthdays, and the message bottle guy.
What a wonderful woman to even think of making birthdays special for homeless children. That woman is so wonderful. I hope she gets everything she ever wanted in life because she deserves it. What a great person.
Gahhh... all of these people are beautiful! Especially the birthday party planner..... and the baby whisperer... and the message in a bottle answerer..... amd AJ Jacob's... "the grump".. lol.. they are all extraordinary humans and they rock.
That guy AJ who thought of himself as very grumpy and started to thank everybody who contributed to making him life better had such a wholesome character development. Imagine working hard on you job and feeling unappreciated and then AJ calling you to say a simple thank you. I would say welcome calmly and after cutting the call Imma cry like an infant.
My mom told me that when she couldn't get me or my brother to stop crying, she would call my grandmother and she would come by, wrap us up super tight in a blanket and rock the hell out of us. And it worked every time. We miss you Granny, love you...
All of these people are really amazing. They are all impacting lives in a positive way. But the lady who does the parties is just so special! Birthdays are so important to children! It makes them feel important and special and boosts their self esteem. I would love to be a baby buddy. The only hospital in my state that has a program like that is 2 hours from my home. Someday I will go through their training and volunteer.
I have heard that you can volunteer to hold babies and I've been thinking of doing that once the pandemic is over. We need more people like David :) what a nice caring grandpa
The second story was beautiful. So was the third, what a lovely thing to do, and to give the parents the credit is very thoughtful. In fact, may God richly bless all these people.
I am so glad Extraordinary Birthdays exists! Because it is so important and you especially remember the parties when you are small! I know I remember them from my 3rd birthday and onwards! They are some of my most vivid memories from when I was a kid! And when they are a happy memory, that stays with you for life!
I love this! By the time be living and work in the states as a Physical Therapist this is what I have in mind to volunteer during the week ends. I have the gift of service and I love to give for a purpose 😊❤️❤️❤️
I am not big on kids, but that one had me in tears. It just dawned on me that i never considered what children's birthdays are like in shelters. And i imagine it is especially hard on their parents and the children who are old enough to remember better days and birthday parties in their previous homes. Wow. She and her volunteers are doing something so selfless. Nothing about that job sounds easy.
I think the David story, as heartwarming as it was, shows a big issue in the us. I heard that parents only get around a month of maternity leave and a big part of the time it's an unpaid leave and I think that it is crazy cause it shows a blatant lack of consideration towards new parents, especially new moms. Like I live in canada and here most moms can get up to a year of paid maternity leave or 6 months if both parents want a leave to take care of the baby. It also allows parents to spend time with their sick newborn without ending up in debts/being more stressed.
The last guy, AJ Jacobs is an interesting man. The thanking everyone who helped make his coffee was the subject/plot of his latest book. He does all sorts of experiments in his life, from tracing his lineage back hundreds of generations, to trying to find the pinnacle of physical health, to reading the entire encyclopedia, to living and following every rule in the bible for a year; it's very quaint. I'd highly recommend his books.
The homeless shelter one really got me (extra ordinary birthday partys)
A good example of why we need to "Promote The General Welfare" of our citizens first.
I may or may not be tearing up.
Yeah what about biodiversity , not one white child ,not one Chinese child they are all black why not other races 😂

@@gadget4208 Looking through statistics, a significant majority of the homeless in the areas they operate are African American.

I thought it said 50 years old and I was like what
I think the closer you are to birth and death the more in tune you are with life.
Or simply that grandpas are generally retired so their pace of life is slower and calmer. They can sit with a baby without being impatient or anxious about needing to do a dozen other things. @@cracticustibicen6374 Yeah, also that lol. But the first days of birth and the last days are remarkably similarly in my opinion.
Wow I was just clicking around on youtube I wasn't trying to get emotional
I can make you emotionally mad ? Not one party was thrown for a homeless white child , not one white child nor any other race to be exact
Aaron McCarthy jeez she makes birthday parties to kids that are homeless and most of then were black
@@gadget4208 maybe more of you should be homeless so you can get free bday parties
@@gadget4208 nah, I'm burnt jollof rice. Chicken nuggets are not my culture.
