    I can smell too much. I could smell instantly when my roommate started a particular medication because of the sour tang that hung around her. I worked in an assistant living home (bad for hypersensitivity, to be true), and I could smell who was about to have a psychotic episode or go into a sadly short hospice stay. I'm embarrassed because I can smell who is on their period or if someone has cried recently. I could find people very quickly during hide and seek as a child, and I can't stand elevators because they smell like sooo many people. Anger, sadness, heartbreak, happiness, they all have a smell. It might sound cool, but it's all too overwhelming.

      Whenever someone feels an emotion, or has something physically change their body or it's chemistry (like taking medication) our bodies release hormones as little signals to communicate and give orders to the rest of the body. You could, theoretically, use swabs on someone and test them to find out how much of certain hormones are there to try and gauge or predict their mood/stress level/fertility/etc. Emalie Tison here, has their sense of smell attuned and refined to smell the hormones people produce and give off. Everyone can actually smell them, and are subconsciously affected by them. Emalie on the other hand can actually make out what they are and put labels on and differentiate between them consciously. If you trained it and worked with doctors and patients, you could probably do a lot for the medical community, and help others recognize when they have the same ability and develope it further. You could work as a therapist and help people actually understand what they are feeling because "I know when someone smells sad or stressed." Lol. Or maybe you could even smell some diseases before they are diagnosable. That would be inspiring and pretty darn neat just as a person. You could probably get paid to smell stuff and save lives! Or maybe none of those things, but it's still unique and you, and pretty darn cool.

    • @nedisahonkey
      @nedisahonkey 8 років тому +18

      sid There is a difference between connections of the senses and true synesthesia and the bit you said about turning down music to be able to focus on driving more has more to do with focus than an intertwining of senses

    • @nedisahonkey
      @nedisahonkey 8 років тому +15

      I have synaesthesia but only my family and a few friends know about it. So I'm not factored into these "documented rates." Which makes me think lots of people aren't counted. I know that in my high school, there was one other student with synaesthesia and one teacher. I also don't think they were counted because the teacher didn't seem to know she had synaesthesia (she complained of certain shapes and colours having an unbearable stench), and the other student with synaesthesia also didn't have a word for her "numbers-colours thing."

    I have Synesthesia but it is mainly with my sense of touch, smell, and taste. When I open a bag of spicy chips, or am about to put something spicy in my mouth for the 1st time, my muscles in my jaw shiver and suddenly there is a kind of metal taste which goes away instantly..
    If I'm going to eat something that is sour, my nose begins to tingle and I feel a sourness in my gut. As soon as the food touches my tounge both feelings go away.
    If someone, or myself, rubs the bottom of my feet i can feel it in the opposite foot, but it also causes the feeling of capsaicin on my lips, like lightly burning, not painful or anything, but noticeable.

She just randomly told me about it, one day, and I was super shocked and blown away etc. Because she didn't act as so. She said she STILL didn't like the same kinds of veggies and whatnot, that she always used to. She also insists on eating as if she can still taste as well. Snacking on chocolate at work, etc. It was the craziest thing. Great video, BTW. It is super interesting and whatnot.

      Jordan Kotzev because it’s strange and it’s an early sign of being colorblind. Plus there is probably a deeper story behind it. For example the teacher could have asked her like, “Hey why did you color the leaves green?” And then she probably would have said, “What do you mean this is Green?” And that would of caused the teacher to wonder what’s wrong and call her parents. There you go lol.

    The painter is absolutely terrific and the paintings are what I would consider abstract art and not some random splashes of colour. It allows me to interpret it however I want and I don't feel as though I have to take time and effort to understand it unlike the so called 'abstract art ' I see online or on Etsy. It speaks to me , telling me a story with the textures and the movement of colours all blended beautifully on canvas, like music.

      It just depends what they feel like.
      You mostly start with the feeling the start gives, and just start somewhere.
      It could move around, but it really depends how the music goes.
      And it's not linear like a language.

      its different for every person. For me, The colors are organized by the intensity of each note, the louder or more intense the note is, the larger it is and it is placed at the left. left to right, louder to softer.

    I actually have chromesthesia, or sound-to-color synesthesia, and I can hear colors when I listen to music.
    Although I have seen some comments already trying to tell people not to pretend you have synesthesia or any of the interesting conditions seen in this video, but I actually have it. Many musical notes sound like colors to me, like the F on a piano sounds like green, and B flat sounds like purple and gold. Keys also sound like colors. For example, I hear the D minor key sounds like a mix of blue, purple, pink, yellow, and orange, sort of like a sad sunset. Chromesthesia is actually very interesting if you think about it.

    I don't know if this has anything to do with synethesia, but when I see something I can kind of imagine it as a person, like a specific type of person.
    *Here's some examples.*
    Sqaures are kinda angry at things around them, and they just generally aren't the nicest people.
    Triangles just.. Sit there, not doing much.
    Circles are the optimistic ones, always being excited and happy. (I also imagine them as *blue.* )

    I don't know what this has to do with anything, I just want to know if I'm not the only one. When I'm in class and were talking about dinosaurs or I'm watching Jurassic Park I'll get this weird smell, I can only describe it when I am smelling but when the scent is gonna so are the descriptions. If I'm bye my self and I think about dinosaurs to get the smell it won't come for a while, and then it comes for like 5 secs and disappears. The scent is the most strong when I think about or am shown a picture of a Velociraptor, it comes every time if a Velociraptor is involved, no matter the occasion. Like I'm smelling it right now as I'm writing about Velociraptors. Am I the only one?

    For me, the number 2 is baby blue, 6 is orange, 3 is a light green, and 9 is pink.

    I have synesthesia too, chromesthesia to be exact. My friends names are colors, like Taylor is light purple, like lavender, but only when said by a person with a high voice, but when said with a different tone of voice, the deeper the voice the darker the shade. Also numbers have colors. When I was watching someone said 3 was yellow, and I went “Oh, no no no. 3 is dark blue. 2 is yellow.” My friends think I’m crazy but having a colorful mind adds to my life.
