    i had a friend who lived like this. it was very sad over all. she'd been shuffled around from different family members because no one really wanted her. finally she had family that let her stay in their gorgeous home. she had a beautiful room, massive with an en suite bathroom and she completely trashed it like this. you couldn't even walk without stepping on trash. she had piles of shampoo bottles (at least 30+) because she'd get tired of one scent, toss it on the floor, buy a new one, and not pick up the old bottle. i had empathy for the mental health stuff but after awhile, it just turned into an utter lack of respect for her family that had taken her in that i couldn't abide by. she would laugh about trashing their expensive house, and make snide comments about how they should afford a maid if they didn't like it. i've dealt with things in my life too. there's been times when i also had moldy bowls of food left around because i physically could not clean them. but for me, it's a different factor entirely if you're living with others (in their home) and have pets that also are exposed to this. it goes beyond just a personal struggle. i could empathize with my friend and offer to help her pick up a few things knowing what she came from. what i couldn't empathize with was the entitlement and making it all into a joke...like she had a right to trash their home. i get the same kind of vibes with this kid. if it is a mental health issue, i can empathize with that and be compassionate. but seeing his pets in that condition and knowing this isn't his own home...it changes things.

      Yeah i understand that. Like i sometime have mental health issues and just cannot clean, but being rude and making comments like that, then those people dont need your understanding.
      She isn't acknowledging that her mess can affect others and are being rude about it. If her room is messy and its not bothering anyone and shes not being a jerk about it then thats fine, but not having any understanding of how it can affect others, then that is not okay and it makes sense why she would be kicked out unfortunately.
      She needs help, but her being rude about it won't help her... and she cant put that on others and needs to find the help herself. Its very sad indeed and i hope one day shell find the help she needs.

It still gets pretty dirty sometimes, as we just weren’t raised to have a healthy cleaning routine, but it’s getting better. The original poster is correct. The large ones are called American roaches and live mostly outdoors (here in FL it's not common for people to have basements so they get in through drains). One getting in your bathroom every few months is common. The smaller ones are called German roaches and if you get them, it's an infestation from being dirty. It's thoroughly disgusting to see any roach in your living space. Since moving here I've become OCD about my space being meticulous, and I still find a few a year in my shower. Due to a number of personal things I won't share but I still manage to handle it because they taught me other ways of dealing with it so that I could be cleanly. It's possible to do. Doesn't have to be perfect just needs to be safe and healthy cleanliness. You could be disorganized and clean at the same time.
      This person seems to choose to do this but I don't know why. Obviously I don't know him personally. But I think it has to do with something relating to either attention or something else. But it seemed he wasn't taught a lot of these skills and then at an older age he was told to keep clean but doesn't realize. He says his parents are threatening to evict, implying he lives with them, but a relative saw his tiktoks and informed them about his room- how the fuck could this be going on under someones roof WITHOUT their knowledge? There's no way it doesn't stink to high heaven and the roaches can't just be confined to his room.

But the difference between my situation and his is that it looks like he might have a support system nearby, has not only people noticing his behavior but is also showing off his behavior online and laughing about it, and is absolutely not afraid about people knowing about it. But I wonder if he jokes about it to cope with feeling unfit or overwhelmed to clean his room.
    There is laziness, and then there is mental illness. Once the bugs and the mold comes into play, that's usually when lazy people start to clean their environment. I believe there's something wrong with him mentally and he might be doing these videos as a weird coping mechanism. Either way, I hope he gets some sort of help. A mentally well person doesn't live with cockroaches happily.

    • @user-hh7mr7qy6w
      @user-hh7mr7qy6w 11 місяців тому +6

      To talk about my personal experience, I often had ants due to not throwing away sugary foods, mold grew rapidly in the bathroom and food in my bedroom. My garbage can became full, so I turned to the floor. I typically tried to get rid of ants when I saw them, but didn't bother to properly toss my food that I knew would bring them in the first place beforehand. I wore weeks old dirty laundry because I was too depressed to wash. I kept my appearence up just enough to have people not suspect my mental illness- which obviously didn't work too well.
      But I did try to hide this from my family and roommates. I always kept my door closed, everybody out, and when people made surprise visits I would throw all of my trash into the closet. If my hair was too itchy and greasy, I would do a quick shampoo. If I stunk to high heavens, I did an underarm wash and a lot of deodorant. I wore crusty socks. It was disgusting.
      So because of my personal experience, I do have to wonder if he has depression or another mental disorder, but what I can't wrap my head around is why he would share this.

My room isn't as bad as that but it has cups, plates (because my mother usually brings the cat food in there), and sometimes bowls, while there's clothes scattered around, my bed is messy and is laced with dirt and hair from my dog, trash on my drawers, shoved random toys from my sister's into my closet, etc.
      and my mother has used the word 'hoarder' to describe me. I don't take showers often (every 1-2 weeks), and I don't usually put on deodorant which isn't very good if I want to smell good, but I'm wearing my jacket daily in school so my friends don't notice. And I feel really ashamed of myself that I can't even take care of myself from being so unmotivated and mentally unwell (without any help).

      @user-hh7mr7qy6w 8 місяців тому

      @@SoulxSpectre edit: For some reason I didn't check the pronouns and I thought you use "he" on your friend- sorry if they use different ones.
      You sound like an incredible friend. It's unfortunate to say this, but you're already putting in all you can to help him. Being there by his side, letting him vent, being nonjudgemental and letting him know you're there for him if he needs you is for the most part all a single person can do to help another person with depression. There isn't typically one "godsend" that can save a person- even winning a billion dollar lottery is no promise that a person will no longer be depressed.
      Usually when a person is depressed to that point, it's because they see no reason to keep clean, and don't have the energy to do so. Keeping clean comes as a cycle of repetition for caring for themselves, which someone with depression will struggle doing. Why bother with the mold and the smell, if you don't have the energy to wake up in the morning, and don't care about anything anymore?
      Also, I will say, with this level of depression, it's common for a person to have suicidal thoughts (I'm not sure if your friend does). And I'll estimate that 95% of the time, it's not that the person doesn't want to live per se, it's that they don't want to live like that, and have nothing they see as something that justifies living through depression/stress/pain. This can come from hating their current life and situation, hating society, and/or hating their past.
      My only recommendation is to keep your friend close, let him know you care for him deeply, encourage him in anything he chooses to do that will help him grow, and keep an optimistic attitude around him. Already it sounds like you're a great support system and a great person.
      Depression will never disappear entirely, but the symptoms will slowly and steadily decrease with love and care.

      @@SoulxSpectre I can give you a list of a couple things you can do to help him additionally if you're not doing these already:
      1.) Hang out with him, probably at least once a week. Encourage him to leave his room, to step out and enjoy the outdoors and the public. This one is especially helpful if he doesn't have much of a social life, or a routine.
      2.) Surprise him with little gifts, doesn't have to be huge or expensive, but the more thought, the better. I sobbed from happiness when my friend gave me a handmade card.
      3.) If he struggles with cleaning, encourage him to care for himself. If he's comfortable with it, get him a trash can, some cleaning supplies. Make it consume as little energy as possible to care for himself, and to be able to get going to take care of his hygiene on his own.
      4.) I find that routine is a great way to help someone with depression this severe. Have a schedule where he cleans his laundry every Thursday, dusts every Tuesday, etc., and make sure he doesn't feel ashamed if he wasn't able to clean that day. Someone with only 40% energy that day putting in 40% is them giving their 100%.

He probably doesn’t know that he’s under eating since he thinks he’s full, not realizing that his body stopped being hungry at that moment in a shallow type of way. That’s what I’ve experienced so yeah. He’s definitely got it way worse. His parents instead of kicking him out shouldn’t allow him to eat meals in his room anymore instead making him eat downstairs. That would not only cut down the clutter and give him enough nutrients to the point where he can actually see his situation somewhat for what it is and improve himself.

    I just learned the difference between untidy, messy, disorganised, and hoarded.
    A room is untidy when a general organization system is in place but not used
    A room is messy when there is no organisational system.
    A room is disorganised when the organisational system is misused.
    But those first three are not inherently bad. As people view things differently,
    For example my system may appear disorganised but it is actually just structured in a strange way. But that system makes sense to me.
    A room is hoarded when there is food rotting.
    This room is hoarded. He has never gotten rid of a single thing.
    How many people are eating in their room? To me that seems like a recipe for disaster.

    Minus the roaches because I had ants, my room used to be like this when I was 11-15. The only difference was, my mother would clean it despite me asking her for me to clean it myself. She would berate and insult me the entire time while throwing away the things I should’ve still had. She didn’t care, she was just angry. I was depressed and had horrible difficulties letting ANYTHING go. We figured out when I started not cleaning my room and it was when my grandmother died. I was and always will be very close to her. On top of that, my home life became more and more abusive and broken. My room became a depression nest. I had to carve a path through the junk covered floor to get to my junk covered bed if I wanted to sleep. What really helped my room and mental state was getting a kitten. Something to love, care for, and raise. I needed to be cleaner for both of our sakes. I’m now 24 and my fur baby is 7 1/2. I’m married, have my own apartment, I’m going to graduate college soon, and I’m getting even healthier. So, I can’t judge this guy. He may have his own thing going on that we can’t comprehend. He needs support and guidance, without us giving him the cheat sheet (referring to my mother cleaning my room). P.S. my apartment is clean and any mess that is made is never judge by my husband. He just helps me instead of doing it for me like my mother did ❤

      I had a friend who's room was like this. I never berated her over it but had that kind of shock response where you just laugh. I was 14 when I saw her room the first time. A couple years later I sort of figured it wasn't normal and it wasn't funny either so I used to try and help her clean but she would get very upset. Like receded into herself and wouldn't want to talk to me. We were so close I was with her every other day for years. I got her to a point where she would let me clean the garbage and more gross stuff and I would make piles of her stuff organized by whatever it was and she would put the stuff away. So for a while it was pretty clean and I didn't mind helping her like that. Then she got into a relationship with this girl who would yell at her and throw her stuff away whenever I wasn't around and my friend let things go. She got so much worse and started doing stuff she would never do before like ignoring the litter box. The weirdest part was all our other friends ignored it and acted like it was fine. There was broken glass all over her floor one time and they sat down on it. Like it wasn't a problem. But their houses didn't look like that, it was like they just pretended and then would talk about how she was living behind her back. IDK why everyone from her own family to her friends and relationships would refuse to offer help. She never got better and only got worse, eventually got into drugs. I always think if people supported her instead of enabling or shaming things could have ended different.
