@@willpolr understand not hating on luke, but DJing is a biz like any other. I just don't buy into the mystique of the DJing world like everyone says buy pioneer they are the standard... Well to me standard means generic...
@@AnonIllumi I kinda am hating on him to be honest. I hate it when people are unauthentic and desperately try to appear authentic. It’s laughable. I agree though it’s a business. I also think the best businesses are authentic, but we all know honesty isn’t profitable.
@@AnonIllumi I’m not a fan boy of any equipment other than A&H mixers. Pioneer has never been anything to me. CDJs I can dig but they aren’t all that. And their mixers are horrible.
It took me a while to realize this while there was a surge in digital djing... but all that matters is what comes out of the speakers. The crowd doesnt care what you dj with or how you do it. The only people who care are other djs. And I love my fellow djs, but I dont dj for other djs. I dj to entertain crowds. So, if it sounds good coming out of the speakers, DO IT!
If they only cared about what came out of the speakers, then there would be no need for the dj at all. The more we move away from the human element of djing, the faster we make ourselves obsolete.

What a video!!! Thanks. I absolutely agree with you about using our phones to DJ. Continue the great work, and sharing your journey of the art of teaching.
First of all, thank you for your sincerity, it is not something that everyone does. I have always had you as a source of inspiration and after watching the video I better understand the decisions you have made. When you changed to Denon and showed the improvements compared to Pionner, I immediately understood the reason for the change. However, this decision to use your cell phone is still difficult for me to assimilate. I know perfectly well that the future is STEMs but I don't think the future is using a mobile app (small screen). In addition, STEMs are already being implemented in all software. I think what has been missing is a video squeezing out all the capabilities of the new setup, because the little we have seen in videos of your festivals has seemed that you are now much more limited (this did not happen with Denon). You mention the Pionner DJ Sounds video and I think that in terms of technique it is one of the best sets you have done. I understand that as a DJ at a festival the selection matters more and people don't look at the technique. Maybe you could do a set taking full advantage of your new setup and that way people will be more convinced.
I really appreciate this comment! Thank you for coming with reason and the will to discuss! I do have a video coming up with the capabilities of my new (mobile) setup. Which, obviously I think is awesome and a breath of fresh air! Very happy stems are implemented everywhere now! Is my mobile setup the future? It is for me. But maybe not for a ton of DJs, which is ok! I'm really happy and convenient with this, and I just like sharing that feeling with you. Just like how emails are more convenient than sending actual letters. It's up to the user to decide to use it or not : )
People complain about DJs switching gear or making new endorsement with DJ brand like it have an impact on their choice. Just because Luke is with Reloop now doesn't make your "old" Denon or Pioneer setup is obsolete (even if you're still using a CDJ 1000 or a Denon DNS-3700). You don't have to follow what your favorite DJ does or even buy your setup from just one brand. You also can have different "need" than your favorite DJ, even if you want to do the same thing like he does. You can do stem mixing like Luke on Serato or VDJ, scratch like A-Trak on a Pioneer controller or Denon vinyl (you'll need a lot of training anyway, no matter the setup), you can use your phone with Traktor DJ, there's no one way to do what we do, and it always been that way (even when Technics was the only option, it wasn't - but it was the more convenient). Your personal dream setup can be 2 Reloop RP8000m2 with Phase, 2 Denon SC6000M and a Pioneer V10 in the middle (with an Inofader as crossfader), all connected to a laptop with VDJ 2023, and still using Engine or Rekordbox on the side for when you play on your friend setup (that's my dream setup btw, so don't hesitate to make some donation, Luke if you reading this and don't know what to do with those Denon ;) ). Also, the choice Luke or any other DJ to be affiliated with a brand is his own choice, and doesn't change the way people enjoy his performance. They're professional, so they know what they do, how to do it, and how to make it work. (also Luke, next meeting with Reloop, tell them to do a 4 channel mixer oriented for scratch, with a real crossfader and pedal fx, I can't be the only DJ who want to have the battle setup with a 4 channels mixer :) )
Huge respect for the straight up & honest answers. I can honestly relate to this video. I get so excited whenever new tech is released, I couldn't imagine being held back by a contract of some sort. You have to stick with what keeps you excited & creative. Reloop are innovative & make fantastic gear & DjayPro is getting better all the time too. I can see why you changed course. Hopefully we get to see a collab with yourself & DjAngelo rocking the Reloops in the near future!!
I hope people respect your decision and understand that their comments can impact your mood. Thank you for explaining this and I personally assumed that this was your reasoning especially when the idea of DJing with an app is pretty revolutionary. Yeah, I hope that people respect each other’s opinions on what equipment that they use because at the end of the day. We need to use stuff that works for our needs and handle the type of gigs that we each are doing.
Thank you for the honesty, and sharing your thoughts. I am glad to hear that there was nothing really negative about any of your brand experiences in the past. I feel people get to blind by brand loyalty and miss out on things that could be better because of it. I am currently in the Denon camp and have no ill will towards you or anyone who decides to jump brands. The important part is not the gear you use but how you use your gear and if you can use this new setup better than the old then you would have been dumb not to switch.
As far as I'm concerned, a DJ should always stay true to himself/herself (like you have always done, Luke). There is no such thing as the "best piece of gear." Just the best piece of gear for YOU and your style of performing... and since your style is always growing and evolving, it only makes sense that you venture into new gear and technology. Thanks for keeping it real, brother!
Well said. I'm with you. Seams like we were doing the same things over the years although I do not know you personally. I started with vinyl in the 80's. Went with CDJ's in the 90's and now I'm all digital even though I'm now retired and just a bedroom DJ. I try and have all brands and try different software as well. Embrace the future and leave the past behind. Freedom is the best gift given other than life and you don't need to answer to anyone. Keep being you.
Good for you man! For years I was a successful drummer and I went through 3 different sponsor brands, each change was for a different reason. Nobody batted an eyelid because it's normal for musicians to be endorsed. The DJ world is rife with tribalism some positive and some negative, but equipment tribalism is the siliest of them all.
Laidback Luke you’ve always been one of my favorite DJs of all time ever since I first saw you play at EDC10 , love that you had such a definitive answer and it not only addresses your larger fan base audience but it’s meant to inform the others on what it means to keep true to your character and your style without it becoming about money or a deal. Truly always great to know your idols are indeed who they want to be. Just started DJing and my goal is to be anywhere as good and as technical as you are, both on vinyl and cdjs! Going to be playing before you one day! 🙌🏼
I always loved music and I never had the balls to start dj'ing out of being so unfamiliar with how it all worked. I didn't have access to gear and didn't wanna buy an entire set up not knowing how i'd actually make out with it after trying. I came across the djay app and it lit the fire. Years later im doing gigs, recording mixes and having an awesome time with it. I don't blame you one bit for trying new things even if it's not popular. The future of dj'ing in my opinion isn't only with what you're saying but also starting to happen more often in VR....once the mixed reality technology takes off where you can see your equipment better, then things are really gonna change and you'll see even more people like myself get into the art. The proof is in your craft though, there's no need to explain every move you make. I've been a big fan for a long time
@laidbackluke Loads of RESPECT for musicians like you who always evolve in ur craft and constantly keep trying new products to enhance your live sets, music production & in turn make music lovers appreciate & love your work even more 🙌
Thank you for saying this Luke. I took a step out of DJING for a bit, but you reminded me of why I love it so much. Because I like innovation too. DJ controllers made DJing accessible for me when I got started. Soon phones will make it really accessible.
It’s been a while since I have DJ’d but you’re such an inspiration I definitely want to get back into it! I love your authenticity man. Hope to see you in Vegas again soon
Change is hard for a lot of people. I went from DJing in the 90's on Technics, to adding 2 5000m in the setup. I get where people come from on serato and these new players feel like cheating the old craft. This is the evolution of the tools available. Use it for what it is, not as a focus point on the world changing around you. Be creative and use all the tools available to you to have fun and keep the crowd pumping.
Woah I’m speechless Luke, The Idea Of CHANGE Even In Our Everyday DJing Equipment Is Something I Never Thought Of As A Gen Z DJ 🙏🏻 Much Love & Gratitude For Opening Our Minds More Each & Every Day Through Vlogs Like These Sifu Lucas! ❤️
17 years ago, I started to DJ, and always looked up to your work. You inspired me to advance my skills and I ended up doing production/mixing. Music has been a big part of my life since. Thank you.
Nice and very interesting! I just got some slack from a good friend of mine that I sold out and ditched vinyl and the 1200 from back in the 80’s-90’s, and I became a softee DJ with controllers. I just got back to DJing in 2022 and jumped on the new technology (learning curve like how to tie my shoes again). But I embrace the new gear and technology because it’s made it easier for me to make edits and mix a certain way and I finally learned how to use the cue points lol. I see this video and it makes so much sense, I may have to try reloop gear to DJ with my iPhone to start having it as a back and move it to my preferred gear for future events. Thank you for this video Luke! Blessings to you always! Here’s to more videos and to more innovation inspirations!
I grew up listening to do mixtapes… and those days djs were respected for the music they would source. The a point come where it was about the music a dj had and what they did with them. Now it looks like it will be who has the best app or what AI does the job best. I love technology, and I have been a fan of your work since the mid/late nineties… but if I saw you ‘DJing’ from a phone I can’t say it would garner respect. Sure it is cool to be able to play around on a phone, but that is not the same experience as mixing on hardwares (especially with an ai running the show) and I think you know it. It is not a progression it is a tangent.
I saw a interview they did on the streets back in the 90's asking random people if they had a computer @home, most of them laughed at the idea of having one in home let a lone internet, look at us now.. Good job mr Luke, new things will always be developed your mindset is just ahead of the game and the rest will eventually follow
Hi Luke! Thank you so much for the explination why you have ended things with Denon. I've been DJ-ing for almost 15 years untill i found the DJ Traktor app and integrated with a Z1 and X1 MK2 ... i know that they released the new X1 MK3 but i am not thriled about it. I was looking for a way to use my phone (iPhone 14 PRO MAX) and integrated with a gear. And then by some miracle you appeared and you used it with the Reloop Mixtour and it seems to get the job done. I am tired of always having my Macbook with me and all the other accessories. I know now that i have to buy the Reloop Mixtour and give it a try. You are always an inspiation to all of us and i thank you for all the thing that you give us ... insights, new music, life with the family, etc ... You have our R E S P E C T, forever! THANK YOU! P.S. : Maybe some Laidback Luke additional things to know about the Reloop Mixtour?
Luke, you're one of the GOATs. You're right, ppl are jaded, and it makes sense but ppl can't see the bigger picture. You many times say it's not about the gear, it's about the DJ. DJing is about having fun, and if you're bored why not do something new!? People need to not feel so attached and identify with gear. I still love my Denon and it would be silly if I felt threatened by Laidback Luke having a different journey. Love to see you follow your own path!

Happy to see a EDM DJ for Reloop. They have for sometime set a new standard for DVS and vinyl players. Last few years has mostly been Scratch DJs. Good to see them broaden the spectrum. Been a Reloop fan for years with a RMX90 and 2x RP8000mk2. Hopefully I get to try the elite mixer but, money is a factor. Hope Reloop gives you the opportunity to try out their club mixer RMX95. Curious about that one.
Yes sir! An RMX95 should be on it's way to me soon to try and test. I'm sorry to read about the money factor. And it's true, and shoot maybe I should mention that, how some of the top tier Scratch DJs are with Reloop! The EDM world is oblivious.
@@laidbackluke Relooop brings the best of two worlds. The old school turntable feeling and The modern digital solution. Looking forward on more content from you in The future.
I ditched the 1200 mk2s in 1989 for the Technics SL-P1200 and two years later I was using Denon DN2000F by 2003 I went digital. First with PCDJ Red and then the same year Traktor Dj Studio, without a controller using a mouse and splitting the computer’s headphone output into deck 1 and deck 2 into a pa mixer that allowed me to have the same mono output from each deck on both left and right output of the mixer. Cue was through the solo so it was basic from there. Having played with the Denon first allowed me to see the software gui as playing in a two deck denon so no big change there except now the music was in the laptop. By 2008 I started using my 1200s again with Serato Scratch Live and using turntables again felt like riding a bike. I don’t do clubs anymore but at home I have my vinyl setup and still enjoy playing my records the way I started which keeps me in my toes and mixing by ear without any software crutch. I’ve seen many djs from way back that since came back with controllers and feel very cocky but when presented with turntables and true vinyl you see their hands shaking out of fear, the crutch has destroyed their confidence in skills they had. So I still have different controllers I enjoy playing with, akai amx/afx, pioneer dj ddj1000, ableton push 2 but I won’t ever let my turntables and vinyl go. Forgot to say, my journey started with belt drive turntables and disco music with human drummers that are not metronome perfect by any stretch. Thinking of buying me a pair of SL-B1 s like I had.
Very well said, do not let the negativity of others for change make you stop progressing, let each one mix with the team that suits him best and never stagnate, always open to change and progress, I admire both your work and your person, always so honest, never change luke!
It’s all about the music connecting people on the dance floor. Technical parts of DJ’ing (selection, sequence, mixing, timing, key) are more important than what gear you use - unless that gear becomes something that holds you back. So follow your own path brother
I started on vinyl, and now, finally, after years of djing, I own a 'club standard' setup. If I could afford a set of Pioneer cdj 3000's and Djm A9, I wouldn't hesitate, but the price point of the Sc6000's and mixer, especially where I live, is a no brainer. Just like when I couldn't afford Technics 1200's/1210's and bought a set of Gemini PT2000's and mixer, price has and is the biggest factor for me, and I'm sure many others. The fact that I can have individual media players with incredible features that the Sc6000's have is awesome, and Denon made this possible...however, if accessibility is the issue, then the phone setup I saw you use on a few 'backstage' mixes at Tomorrowland and here in your channel, is going to help reduce the stigma attached to 'what pro gear is', simply because you, an established, highly successful musician, dj, performer, producer, kung fu expert and let's not forget Dad, is once again showing the way. ...its ultimately awesome that you are not stagnating and being so open about your decisions. Massive respect always. Appreciated.
Currently it's hard for me to imagine any more features you could ever want from a modern DJ setup like, let's say a standard 4x CDJ3000 setup - which is surprisingly widespread already in my experience. Or even a DDJ1000 Level Controller. At the same time it makes me very interested to see your experiences with it! It would be amazing if you could show us your favourite features and how you benefit from this setup! Big Respect & Much Love from Austria!

Just mental isn't it. How "managed" was that little speech! Oops there's a set of decks behind me so we'd better cover that in the vid as well. Wow. Doing with an app is not innovative its a step backwards. IMO obviously I aint the law of DJ world!
I love love love this Jeff, ain't that the truth!
If they only cared about what came out of the speakers, then there would be no need for the dj at all. The more we move away from the human element of djing, the faster we make ourselves obsolete.
Your an awesome DJ and a real DJ. It can be said you don’t follow trends. You help push the industry forward . Thank you for keeping us informed with all you do. And for keeping crowds in good moods with your awesome skills!
Good on you for doing what you feel is right!
You're one of the best in the game! We'll always follow you, no matter which hardware/software partner you choose. We trust your judgment. Onward and upward!
Thank you thank you thank you... for keeping true to your art, for all the knowledge and experience you share... true legend here
First I thought ' Ya sure..' but you got me, very interesting Luke!
Luke's always innovating and, more importantly, open to change. I love all the companies he's worked with so far, and am thrilled for his next move!
Seriously, I love you. You are always 100% real. I do miss you doing your amazing work on Pioneer, but you need to be happy about the gear you use. Big props to you. I have so much respect for you! Thank you for being authenticly you!
LOVE. I absolutely back the ideology of this. Always search for what you love and continue to evolve.
I love your realism in this vid. Awesome, awesome stuff.
Man I love this guy. He reminds me why I fell in love with electronic music the first time I heard it at age 12.
Luke's vision is unmatched
You are One of and if not THE most humble musician out there.
LOVE your music and your DJing is always next level.
Love that you take those comments and turn it into a learning teachable moment.
You are the best Luke and always will be !
Keep it Laidback and Salute ! 🫡
Thank you so much for this reply and thank you for the support always!
Dang Luke you're the reason I even dare to touch the Decks. May there be no limit to your creativity!
Enjoying the vlogs man!
It's up to the user to decide to use it or not : )
You are a legend bro!!
Forget the haters, be true to you, and the real ones will recognise and respond.
Respect from Cornwall, UK, Luke! 🤍
He said the same thing at Tomorrowland Academy. Great inspiration for all of us
Thank you so much Erick! Ha ha and I will keep on saying it. In a few weeks I'll finally do a video about the setup I spoke to you guys about : )
So nice, always open minded for new development. Love it.
The important part is not the gear you use but how you use your gear and if you can use this new setup better than the old then you would have been dumb not to switch.
mad love and respect Luke! appreciate the honesty and your drive and looking ahead!
You actually have a point, keeping mind open to changes is what makes a person forever young
Heck yeah bro, stay innovating!
Dude Luke! Your Absolutely amazing! Always have been.. always will! Stay healthy my friend!
I'm so glad I watched this video. It is real eye-opener -- made me think really hard about the future. Thanks, LaidbackLuke!!
Great video. Innovation is sharing and believing. Change will always come hard for some. Artistic approaches have to evolve.
I was curious why you switched and here is the answer! You're a boss.
It’s been a while since I have DJ’d but you’re such an inspiration I definitely want to get back into it! I love your authenticity man. Hope to see you in Vegas again soon
Thank you for being honest about things, Luke! Appreciate it!
Nice one Luke - always be authentic. Inspirational.
Congratulationss, and well done for sticking true to yourself, I know it's not easy at your level Lucas, so BIG respect.......and stay true......
You are a true one. Keep the good work!
We love you bro! I bought Denons because of you and very happy with them still!
Big up to Laidback Luke, L's up. He's seeing it for what it is.
Good and honest video about your journey. Reloop another up and coming innovative company. Let's wait and see
Always innovative.. keep up the strong work
such a important video! i'm by your side. Wish you luck
You are solid Luke. Fan from way back, don't let the keyboard Deejays get to you.
True words . Always look for the new .
17 years ago, I started to DJ, and always looked up to your work. You inspired me to advance my skills and I ended up doing production/mixing. Music has been a big part of my life since. Thank you.
Thanks for all you do Luke!
Can’t wait to see where this is going! Innovation is key and stem mixing in a dj set is really something I want to see more!
Yes, I feel the point here. I am also pushing into a direction, most people don't like. But this is where I'm headed at and I don't care.
Lanks nice Laidback Luke!!. True innovator through out all the years and still now. Increase capacity and 1 % atomic habit for us everyday. Good or bad lol, djing is still fun with you always.
Looking forward, to taking this journey🚀with you.
Ride the WAVE of innovation, well done✌
..respect for your honest opinion!!! I started deejaying in 1987 and I'v been to all the transitions haha, we were so happy when we saw the first cdj500 and 1000...we were just happy kids with toys...regards
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
How the heck are you getting younger? What ever job you do in life you should embrace change. Thanks for the great content you put out.
Very well said, do not let the negativity of others for change make you stop progressing, let each one mix with the team that suits him best and never stagnate, always open to change and progress, I admire both your work and your person, always so honest, never change luke!
I have Pioneer CDJ, Denon mixer and Reloop neon, with Virtual DJ. It isn't about the brands but choosing your equipment for your needs and DJ style.
Appreciated.
i steped ou of traktor to denon just for this .... keep going strong luke!!!
