I think it was a mistake for the writers to mega-evolve Cynthia's Garshomp against Iris because it take away something for Ash win against her. The victory of him was earn yes but now this thought of "What if Cynthia was using the mega-evolution unstead of Dynamax" will always be there and I don't think this is a good thing in the end.
Imagine Cynthia if she had bdsp Garchomps moveset. Swords dance with dragon claw, earthquake, and poison jab… that would’ve been broken for Cynthia, hell if you replace Poison jab with stone edge then rip Leons Charizard. Cynthia still is a powerhouse and the strongest champion imo

Also it’s not like she was easy he found it difficult. as for how much time elapsed we can assume that from when he got riolu from an egg up until the battle with Cynthia an entire year maybe more passed which is more than enough to train it and get it high enough level to battle.
I feel like they decided to nerf Cynthia and make defeating her believable by making Garchomp's moveset worse before the Master's Eight. *Three* Dragon type moves and a barely used Stealth Rock, all of which Lucario resists? Getting rid of Flamethrower, Dig, Brick Break and Sandstorm?
Since the battle is dictated by script, I don’t think it really mattered. It’s not like the production goes, oh well, Cynthia’s Garchomp has dig now so we are totally incapable of creating a scenario where Ash wins, so F for his goal of fighting Leon. Even with the most powerful moveset you could think of, the result would have been the same. The moves writers pick for the battle are mainly to add drama and flashiness
Presentation matters. What anime presented was a heavily nerfed and dumbed down Cynthia. Think about it for more than five seconds and it gives the impression that in-universe, Cynthia would have easily won if she wasn’t being an idiot and messing up Garchomp’s moveset.
Cynthia inspired Paul to have his own Garchomp, which is a Male Garchomp due to a scar on his fin, he has 3 moves that Cynthia’s Female Garchomp uses: 1: Dragon Claw 2: Stone Edge 3: a Draco Meteor

Cynthia and her Garchomp are certainly one of the most formidable duos within the series. While it may never happen, it would be nice to see how the future sinnoh champion and her ace were during their initial journey.

If they were going to keep Ash in the story, I would have liked to see Cynthia win that battle and then throttle Leon. But I'm glad that after 15 years, and my first generation of Pokemon, she's still recognized for her power and grace. Ash finishing his story after beating my Champion is a very fitting end for his character 😖😭
Cynthia has battled more than I thought on screen. I never watched BW fully but I knew she showed up at some point. I also forgot about her appearance in Arceus and the Jewel of Life
One of my favourite moments was when Cynthia used only garchomp to defeat 4 of paul's pokemon without taking in that much damage, it showed how strong and powerful garchomp was.
Oh the memories of struggling against that monster of Garchomp in diamond and pearl. Cynthia made me fall in love with the species. The fact that it took over 15 years for it to suffer an on screen loss only shows that it’s one of the most powerful Pokémon of all time. I honestly think that, besides Pikachu Cynthias garchomp would have given Leon’s Charizard the battle of its life.
Garchomp is the Leon's Charizard when Leon was still not introduced in the show. They're definitely matched. No one can say that Charizard is stronger than Garchomp because they haven't even battled yet, and the show specifically tells us that this is Cynthia's first Pokemon World Championship and she swept her way from the bottom to Rank 2.
@@lesterism If you actually watched the anime, you know Leon's Charizard and Ash's Pikachu are on another level. Cynthia is a distant third strongest way behind Ash and Leon. Cynthia's Garchomp was even with Iris' haxorus and needed mega evolution to beat it. It also couldn't easily beat sirfetchd resulting in it taking a lot of damage, and couldn't beat a weakened Mega Lucario that already fought a fresh Dynamax Togekiss. Leon easily beat Mega Lucario with just Mr. Rime and Dragapult, 2 base mons.

Imagine if they had kept Cynthia's Garchomp's previous movepool into utilization in Journeys. If they did, I don't think Dracovish, Sirfetch'd, Haxorus, or even Lucario would have had any chance in fighting the Sinnoh Queen Champ's Ace Pokemon
it's a shame they limited garchomps moveset in journeys especially for her battle against ash!! would have loved it if they made the whole garchomps vs lucario a bit more challenging!!! nevertheless i still believe that Cynthia should have won especially with ash having a new (still in training) team going up against one of the most powerful champions whose team has been around for years...
That's one of my concerns with Pokemon Journeys, to be honest. I like the series, but I feel like the Masters 8 tournament would've been better if Ash brought out his old Pokemon instead of new ones to fight the Masters 8, who are all more experienced than him.
So fun to see how cerebral the fight between Ash and Cynthia in the finals tournament. But during the Lucario-Garchomp showdown, there were no more tactics employed, just pure brute strength. Ash and Cynthia will be missed but hopefully they would still show up in special episodes in the upcoming Scarlet/Violet series
@@eljordinio7647 Mega Lucario was still exhausted from the battle with dmax togekiss. It used up it energy for using aura sphere spirit bomb. Even Leon and Diantha noted how it was on equal footing with Garchomp because they were both weakened from previous battles.
@@eljordinio7647 Yes and Cynthia did not use powerup on her garchomp because she had to wear down mega lucario as much as possible and regular togekiss cannot do that. Mega Garchomp would not have stood a chance against almost healthy Mega Lucario due to damage it took from the duck knight

Ah, Garchomp. The best Pokémon of a Champion (Other than Ash). I wish it would have battled Ash's Charizard, Sceptile, or Infernape, but Lucario and Sirfetch'd were ok. I wish we had a spin-off series of Cynthia and Garchomp. Would be worth the watch. A bond that deserves more love and screentime.
Her garchomp is just a beast. And I do not think it's a draw against Caitlin because even she admitted during the battle that she fears Cynthia's strong attacks. And I agree: mega Lucario would never have won against mega Garchomp.
While it would have been a great battle to see Mega-Garchomp vs Mega-Lucario, I think many, including yourself, overlook the fact that at the time Garchomp faced Lucario in the masters 8 tournament all four of its moves were not very effective against the steel and fighting type Mega-Lucario. So it was a strategic decision on Cynthia's part to instead go for dynamax Togekiss and overpower Mega-Lucario.

8:39 The first time I saw garchomp when cocky Paul challenged Cynthia to a battle outside of the league and Ash and friends watched and Cynthia only used garchomp to beat Paul’s (ash’s future Pokémon) chimchar), weavile Murkrow and torterra and just mowed them down with ease and without breaking so much as a sweat and immensely humbling the jerk Paul and that’s when I knew garchomp was my favorite Pokémon of all time next to metagross and charizard gengar and lucario and gyrados,
Cynthia's Garchomp is so strong, literally only Aces of Masters 8 can 1v1 and have a chance against it, especially in its Mega Form. Leon's Zard wins against it, hard diff. Lance's Dragonite and Steven's Metagross is a huge 50/50. Iris' Haxorus and Alain's Mega Charizard X loses against it but will put up a good fight. Diantha's Gardevoir wins against it mid/average diff. Ash's Pikachu struggles but can win or lose depends on plot.
Even if it didn’t win against a Legendary, it remains as one of the strongest Pokémon in the anime! I wish it had a Ground type move like Earth Power or Stomping Tantrum in Journeys or kept Brick Break to scrap with Mega Lucario on equal footing. That would have been so awesome. And even though it was foreshadowed at the end of Sinnoh, a match between Mega Garchomp and Blaze Infernape would have sick as well, providing the redemption Infernape needed after an underwhelming return against Moltres.

Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl could've added Megas and then Mega Evolved Garchomp, it would have been more deadlier Yet Garchomp never had a Paradox Form (Could've thought of Iron Wings being a cool name for the Paradox Form)
I love Cynthia's team and personality I'm though a bit sad about her match with Ash what a second missed opportunity for a worth opponent to have brought back Ash's True OG powerhouse though. A HUGE missed opportunity to bring back Ash's Chairzard. The epic possibilities that could have come from Cynthia's and then the fight with Leon. XD. Would have been crazy if it turned out that Ash's Charizard could like gigantamax AND like mega Y evolve XD.
Cynthia's Garchomp losing to Ashes Charizard would have been the only possible way I'd have accepted her losing to Ash in a realistic way. Them both having Mega would have also made it an epic match worthy of a final battle between them.
I think I battled Cynthia in Pokemon Diamon or Pokemon Pearl, (not the remakes of those games) and I think I beat her. I'm going to train up my Gible in Pokemon Scarlet to a Garchomp. I don't know what I'll nickname my Gible yet though. My Qyaxaval Is nicknamed Daffy (after Daffy Duck) since I choose the water type, on one of the user profiles on my Switch Lite.
I think Cynthia’s Garchomp was very cool she could’ve been a good teacher for Ash’s Gible to reach its potential and it a-bit sad Ash’s Lucario beat Her instead of Dragonite as that would’ve been its redemption from loosing to Paul’s Garchomp and can you do Ash’s Lucario next.
The issue with momanite is that garchomp hits hard especially since moves would be super effective garchomp would have won since ash used reversal we know what that does otherwise he would have lost
Honestly I think Lucario may have still won, as he friendship endured her last attack and that 200 base power stab Adaptability reversal would still have kod her, honestly why was Cynthia only using resisted hits on Lucario, if she was packing Flamethrower Brick Break and Dig or earthquake Lucario would have lost
In my opinion ash greninja will be one or two shotted by Cynthia 's overpowered mega garchomp . Ash 's greninja is nothing compared to Cynthia 's mega garchomp !! The only mons that can give challenge to garchomp 's full power are steven 's mega metagross , Diantha's mega gardevior and ofcourse Leon 's g max charizard !

Cynthia is the greatest champion, by far She’s intelligent, and strives to learn more and more about the world, so that she can better serve the greater goods within it She’s kind and inspiring too, as she works hard to help others and encourages trainers to follow the right path towards becoming champions themselves She’s powerful too, her team consists of some insane powerhouses, Garchomp is obvious, but Togekiss, Gastrodon, Roserade, Milotic and Spiritomb deserve praise as well, as each are powerful in their own rights as well, and it takes true skill, patience and dedication to raise dragon types in general, but to raise a Garchomp as powerful as hers, requires another level of skill On top of all of that, and I know I’m a total dweeb for this SHE IS GORGEOUS Cynthia is by far the best Champion in Pokémon, END OF DISCUSSION

Eh, Leon's Charizard got hit with a Stone Edge from Raihan's Duraludon. It took damage, but it didn't KO it.

No one can say that Charizard is stronger than Garchomp because they haven't even battled yet, and the show specifically tells us that this is Cynthia's first Pokemon World Championship and she swept her way from the bottom to Rank 2.
@@lesterism If you actually watched the anime, you know Leon's Charizard and Ash's Pikachu are on another level. Cynthia is a distant third strongest way behind Ash and Leon. Cynthia's Garchomp was even with Iris' haxorus and needed mega evolution to beat it. It also couldn't easily beat sirfetchd resulting in it taking a lot of damage, and couldn't beat a weakened Mega Lucario that already fought a fresh Dynamax Togekiss. Leon easily beat Mega Lucario with just Mr. Rime and Dragapult, 2 base mons.

I understand that the anime has a lower budget per episode but the battle between Palmer’s Milotic and Cynthia’s Garchomp in the Arceus movie was so beautiful.

As much as it is Awesome that Ash beat Cynthia, I'm still iffy on the fact that THEY NOT ONLY didn't have Garchomp Mega Evolve BUT ALSO not know at least One Ground-type Move🌏 for STAB since Ash DOES have Pikachu⚡ & Lucario⚙
I know about The Earthquake & Magnitude ban BUT there are Moves theyv'e shown after that w/c bypass it: Stomping Tantrum, Bulldoze, Earth Power (w/c Her Gastrodon just did use against Pikachu),...Not even moves like Dig, Sand Tomb, & Mud Shot
ALSO I think Infernape🔥 DESERVES a chance for redemption cause of The Moltres Episode

Imagine if they had kept Cynthia's Garchomp's previous movepool into utilization in Journeys. If they did, I don't think Dracovish, Sirfetch'd, Haxorus, or even Lucario would have had any chance in fighting the Sinnoh Queen Champ's Ace Pokemon
it's a shame they limited garchomps moveset in journeys especially for her battle against ash!! would have loved it if they made the whole garchomps vs lucario a bit more challenging!!! nevertheless i still believe that Cynthia should have won especially with ash having a new (still in training) team going up against one of the most powerful champions whose team has been around for years...

That's one of my concerns with Pokemon Journeys, to be honest. I like the series, but I feel like the Masters 8 tournament would've been better if Ash brought out his old Pokemon instead of new ones to fight the Masters 8, who are all more experienced than him.

So fun to see how cerebral the fight between Ash and Cynthia in the finals tournament. But during the Lucario-Garchomp showdown, there were no more tactics employed, just pure brute strength.
Ash and Cynthia will be missed but hopefully they would still show up in special episodes in the upcoming Scarlet/Violet series
That is because both pokemon were exhausted from previous battles. Garchomp was damaged by Sirfetchd while Mega Lucario by Dmax togekiss
@@eljordinio7647 Mega Lucario was still exhausted from the battle with dmax togekiss. It used up it energy for using aura sphere spirit bomb. Even Leon and Diantha noted how it was on equal footing with Garchomp because they were both weakened from previous battles.
@@eljordinio7647 Yes and Cynthia did not use powerup on her garchomp because she had to wear down mega lucario as much as possible and regular togekiss cannot do that. Mega Garchomp would not have stood a chance against almost healthy Mega Lucario due to damage it took from the duck knight

So Professor, I assume you have heard the news about involving Ash officially leaving the Pokémon anime? Which means that we're no longer be adventuring with Ash or Pikachu anymore which is heartbreaking to Pokémon fan everywhere.
And the Scarlet and Violet anime will be focus on two brand protagonists who'll take over Ash's role, let just hope they don't disappoint.

Ah, Garchomp. The best Pokémon of a Champion (Other than Ash). I wish it would have battled Ash's Charizard, Sceptile, or Infernape, but Lucario and Sirfetch'd were ok.
I wish we had a spin-off series of Cynthia and Garchomp. Would be worth the watch. A bond that deserves more love and screentime.
Her garchomp is just a beast. And I do not think it's a draw against Caitlin because even she admitted during the battle that she fears Cynthia's strong attacks. And I agree: mega Lucario would never have won against mega Garchomp.
While it would have been a great battle to see Mega-Garchomp vs Mega-Lucario, I think many, including yourself, overlook the fact that at the time Garchomp faced Lucario in the masters 8 tournament all four of its moves were not very effective against the steel and fighting type Mega-Lucario. So it was a strategic decision on Cynthia's part to instead go for dynamax Togekiss and overpower Mega-Lucario.

Still was a close battle but I think we know if Garchomp had mega evolved it probably would’ve ended with Garchomp winning but not by a lot, but also Counter could save it. It would be close, the more important question is though is Mega Garchomp without any damage before vs Mega Lucario no damage before

Cynthia's Garchomp is so strong, literally only Aces of Masters 8 can 1v1 and have a chance against it, especially in its Mega Form.
Leon's Zard wins against it, hard diff. Lance's Dragonite and Steven's Metagross is a huge 50/50. Iris' Haxorus and Alain's Mega Charizard X loses against it but will put up a good fight. Diantha's Gardevoir wins against it mid/average diff. Ash's Pikachu struggles but can win or lose depends on plot.
Pikachu is worthy but that ground typing makes it an awful matchup

Even if it didn’t win against a Legendary, it remains as one of the strongest Pokémon in the anime! I wish it had a Ground type move like Earth Power or Stomping Tantrum in Journeys or kept Brick Break to scrap with Mega Lucario on equal footing. That would have been so awesome.
And even though it was foreshadowed at the end of Sinnoh, a match between Mega Garchomp and Blaze Infernape would have sick as well, providing the redemption Infernape needed after an underwhelming return against Moltres.

I love Cynthia's team and personality I'm though a bit sad about her match with Ash what a second missed opportunity for a worth opponent to have brought back Ash's True OG powerhouse though. A HUGE missed opportunity to bring back Ash's Chairzard. The epic possibilities that could have come from Cynthia's and then the fight with Leon. XD.
Would have been crazy if it turned out that Ash's Charizard could like gigantamax AND like mega Y evolve XD.
Cynthia's Garchomp losing to Ashes Charizard would have been the only possible way I'd have accepted her losing to Ash in a realistic way. Them both having Mega would have also made it an epic match worthy of a final battle between them.
I think I battled Cynthia in Pokemon Diamon or Pokemon Pearl, (not the remakes of those games) and I think I beat her. I'm going to train up my Gible in Pokemon Scarlet to a Garchomp. I don't know what I'll nickname my Gible yet though. My Qyaxaval Is nicknamed Daffy (after Daffy Duck) since I choose the water type, on one of the user profiles on my Switch Lite.

I think Cynthia’s Garchomp was very cool she could’ve been a good teacher for Ash’s Gible to reach its potential and it a-bit sad Ash’s Lucario beat Her instead of Dragonite as that would’ve been its redemption from loosing to Paul’s Garchomp and can you do Ash’s Lucario next.
The issue with momanite is that garchomp hits hard especially since moves would be super effective garchomp would have won since ash used reversal we know what that does otherwise he would have lost
Honestly I think Lucario may have still won, as he friendship endured her last attack and that 200 base power stab Adaptability reversal would still have kod her, honestly why was Cynthia only using resisted hits on Lucario, if she was packing Flamethrower Brick Break and Dig or earthquake Lucario would have lost

In my opinion ash greninja will be one or two shotted by Cynthia 's overpowered mega garchomp . Ash 's greninja is nothing compared to Cynthia 's mega garchomp !! The only mons that can give challenge to garchomp 's full power are steven 's mega metagross , Diantha's mega gardevior and ofcourse Leon 's g max charizard !

Cynthia is the greatest champion, by far
She’s intelligent, and strives to learn more and more about the world, so that she can better serve the greater goods within it
She’s kind and inspiring too, as she works hard to help others and encourages trainers to follow the right path towards becoming champions themselves
She’s powerful too, her team consists of some insane powerhouses, Garchomp is obvious, but Togekiss, Gastrodon, Roserade, Milotic and Spiritomb deserve praise as well, as each are powerful in their own rights as well, and it takes true skill, patience and dedication to raise dragon types in general, but to raise a Garchomp as powerful as hers, requires another level of skill
On top of all of that, and I know I’m a total dweeb for this
SHE IS GORGEOUS
